Scientists just found four small planets not too far from us, and they might be perfect for future space travelers. These exoplanets are the right size, possibly have the right conditions, and they're just sitting out there, waiting to be explored. It's like the universe dropped a hint: “Hey humans, pack your bags!” Colonization might sound like sci-fi, but these planets could be real candidates someday. Who knows — they might be our second homes in the future. Space just got a whole lot more exciting! The local church is on the verge of a massive, category shifting change. For 1700 years, the primary identity of the local church in the West has been "church as institution." Over the last 50 years, the church growth movement has brought much needed reformation within this expression. Although God continues to transform many lives through these prevailing models, it has not stemmed the decline of Western Christianity. We can't settle for winning a battle via contemporary church and multi-site, while losing the larger war. Simply producing more of the same will not be enough. Our times require a different expression of the local church - church as apostolic movement, where every person is living a mission-sent life, where every person is a reproducing Christian, and every church a reproducing church. In this work, Mark Beeson, Tim Stevens, and Rob Wegner will share the story of Granger Community Church as they are making the leap to church as movement. Granger is seeking to keep the best of what church growth has taught us, while simultaneously leveraging megachurch and multi-site as a launch pad for missional movements of their people.
Are missional and attractional by very nature on-compatable? Listen to Mike Breen, 3DM and Greg Surratt, Seacoast Church debate and discuss the either/or and both/and.
This session will introduce people to the missional vision, theology, and processes of the Future Travelers embodied in On The Verge the seminal book written by Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson.
Almost 2 years ago God brought these guys together - Greg Nettle, a successful leader of a megachurch and a church planting network, and Alex Absalom, a leading practitioner and author on Missional Communities and discipleship both in Europe and the US. You will hear stories from the frontier, earthed in the realities of day-to-day church life, along with lots of practical tips and insights, as well as plenty of time for Q&A!
