The rivalries in New York have been distinct between the two MLS branches in the Big Apple. However, FC Cincinnati has taken a few bites out of the core before as well. We've already covered the bile between Cincinnati and the Red Bulls, and this week we take on the bluer side of the 5 Boroughs. Last season, it ended a bit sour with New York City FC marching into TQL Stadium and winning the rubber match to knock the Orange & Blue out of the playoffs. While Cincinnati brought in a ton of big-money talent in the offseason, NYCFC did the opposite by staying pat. The only major change came at the head coach role, with Nick Cushing exiting and Pascal Jansen taking over. How has that big change worked so far in New York? We invite Andrew from Hudson River Blue back to talk about the Pigeons and perhaps give us a few insights on visiting Citi Field for a match. (Perhaps he has a recommendation for matzo ball soup?) Each match from now on counts as a potential eliminator. If FC Cincinnati wants to get a home slate against Red Bulls, they'll need to go through their brothers from the Five Boroughs. We bring in Andrew from Hudson River Blue to talk about this pivotal clash and how the Pigeons—yes, that's their accepted nickname—changed their strategy to force the rubber match. The U.S. Open Cup has been a key topic of discussion in American soccer circles over the past couple of weeks, and on Episode 127, we welcome Michael Battista of Hudson River Blue and TheCup.us to discuss everything that's happening. Battista reported earlier this week that chronicled the potential for the 2024 U.S. Open Cup to be canceled due to U.S. Soccer failing to agree on a format that MLS would accept for its first teams to participate. The league has been public in their desire to field their reserve teams for the tournament, which has been meant with condemnation from fans across the country. Michael speaks on how the discussions have been going thus far and breaks down some of the many reasons why the tournament is in this precarious position. We also consider U.S. Soccer's side and discuss how the negotiations have arrived at this point where we are still wondering as fans whether MLS will be involved. There have been a lot of special moments already this season, but Orlando City's three-goal rally from down 3-1 to up 4-3 at the death on Saturday night against the Columbus Crew was special. The Lions came roaring back behind Martin Ojeda, Facundo Torres, and Ramiro Enrique, who somehow found himself in the right place at the right time repeatedly against the Crew. We look back on the lineup changes, the big moments, and a crazy night that was reminiscent of "drunk OCB" at Exploria Stadium. We discuss the Lions who were honored for that performance, check back on our score predictions and make our selections for Man of the Match. Following our look back at Saturday's win, we welcome Andrew Leigh from Hudson River Blue to discuss Wednesday's road game against New York City FC. The Lions haven't always fared well on the baseball diamonds in the north, and Andrew was kind enough to give us an update on the state of the Pigeons. After our chat with Andrew, we discussed Orlando City B's playoff-clinching draw (followed by a shootout win) at Chicago Fire FC II. We honestly should have given this game more time but our Crew rewind and interview ran long (what else is new?), and the important thing is that the Young Lions are in the postseason. We also looked into our mailbagbox, where we were asked about numerous things and we had an answer for all of them, including our three worst Orlando City moments. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City at New York City FC, giving you our key matchups and score predictions for the midweek match. Here's how No. 376 went down: 0:15 – Orlando City's massive comeback to down Columbus at the death. 34:09 – Andrew Leigh tells us all about New York City FC and playing on baseball fields. 59:05 – OCB in the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, our mailbagbox, and our key matchups and predictions for the Lions' trip to play NYCFC on Wednesday. Orlando City finally scored a couple of goals but, unfortunately, the Lions fell behind 2-0 before scoring them. The lads in purple went to Columbus for their third consecutive match away from the friendly confines of Exploria Stadium to take on the Crew. After falling behind 2-0 at the break, again without putting any shots on frame, the Lions started hitting the target. City had a much better second half and mirrored the hosts by scoring once in normal time and once in stoppage time. Ercan Kara and Duncan McGuire were the goal scorers but we made a unanimous Man of the Match pick for someone else. After breaking down that draw against the Crew, we were joined by Andrew Leigh, senior editor over at Hudson River Blue, a New York City FC-centric blog. Like us, HRB was in the SBNation network and now must make a go of it independently. Andrew told us what he expects to see Wednesday and what he's seen all season so far from NYCFC. Following our chat with Andrew, we looked back at an OCB loss to Crew 2 that we wish we hadn't seen. It was an ugly 4-0 affair and the Young Lions never seemed really in the match. Our mailbagbox asked us to rate an Orlando City lineup that our own Ryan Smith came up with, to explain why the Lions aren't hitting the target, and to enlighten folks as to how we determine player grades. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City vs. New York City FC on Wednesday, providing our score predictions and discussing the key matchups. Orlando City had a few finalists for major MLS awards and neither of them won. Daryl Dike was never likely to upset three-year MLS veteran and 2020 Golden Boot winner Diego Rossi for the Rookie Young Player of the Year, but we figured Oscar Pareja had a great shot at Coach of the Year. Alas, that didn’t happen and we’re here to discuss the absurdity of turning around a historically un-turn-aroundable team and not being deemed the top gaffer in MLS. We also discuss the news that Major League Soccer is going to try to cut down on quarantine times for internationals by chartering them flights home — and whether that’s a good idea, given [gestures broadly at everything]. We then turn our attention to the Orlando Pride, who lost one key player and the rights to another player to Racing Louisville in the NWSL Expansion Draft. We also tell you which Pride players did and didn’t make the 23-player roster for the USWNT’s friendly vs. the Netherlands. Oh, and the USMNT just played twice and was actually fun to watch! Christian Smith from Hudson River Blue jumps on with us to give us the New York City FC point of view entering Saturday’s historic playoff match at Exploria Stadium. Find out which player from Orlando strikes terror into the hearts of all Pigeons. Our mailbag demands to know which players match up with which traditional Thanksgiving menu items, which USMNT player we’d like to add to Orlando City, which celebrity owners we want to take over the club, and more. Here’s how show No. 223 went down: 0:15 - The Lions got shut out of the major end-of-season awards despite having a great season and we’re here to defend the gaffer with logic, data, and jokes (obviously). 47:51 - Christian Smith tells us why NYCFC is playing better and what he thinks will happen on Saturday. 1:09:50 - Our mailbag is a veritable horn of plenty this week and we tell you what we think will happen on Saturday. Orlando City got an unexpected break from the busy schedule Sunday when positive COVID-19 tests from two Columbus Crew staff members forced MLS to postpone the match. Hopefully it’s just what the Lions need to get a few of their walking wounded healthy in time for this week’s matches. But for now we’ve got your breakdown of last week’s 0-0 draw with Atlanta United and our Man of the Match. We’ve also got actual transfer news involving Orlando City to discuss. Christian Smith of Hudson River Blue and Ben Cork from Once a Metro return to the show to help us prepare for Orlando City’s match tonight against New York City FC and Sunday at the New York Red Bulls, respectively. The Lions will try to keep their successful season against the New York teams going and these guys caught us up with the latest info on their teams. The Pride’s rematch against Houston looked similar to the first go-around for the opening 45 minutes before the team settled in and started to take more of the game from the visitors. We talk about the good and the bad from Friday’s match-up. This week’s OCB minute has more to do with a report on the team’s future and what might happen than with a match, because the Young Lions also had their weekend match postponed after their midweek loss to Richmond. It turns out two folks from Chattanooga tested positive for COVID-19 too. Our listener mail inquired about dream bands, international slots, and OCB. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we’ve got a new Lion to discuss! 35:21 - Christian Smith catches us up on the latest happenings with NYCFC, a team we haven’t seen since the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament. 57:13 - Ben Cork hops into the discussion and gives us a quick update on the New York Red Bulls, who we saw only a couple weeks ago (it only feels like longer). 1:14:36 - Let’s talk Pride-Dash and OCB. Orlando City did it again. It’s four wins out of four now at Orlando City Stadium after Cyle Larin’s last-gasp winner in stoppage time against the LA Galaxy on Saturday. The Lions played well against a good offensive team and nearly kept another clean sheet if not for the wizardry of Romain Alessandrini. We give you a breakdown of the game and our unanimous selection for Man of the Match. The Orlando Pride opened their 2017 campaign at Portland and things didn’t go quite as well against the Thorns. The hosts took a 2-0 win in a match that saw both sides generate scoring chances but only one finished them off. Still, this was a performance Tom Sermanni could build on and we discuss that and look forward to the women opening the home schedule this weekend against the Washington Spirit. And there’s OCB. The young Lions played twice on the road since we last talked to you and we’ve got thoughts on both games. We also spoke to Sam Dunn, the managing editor over at Hudson River Blue about this weekend’s match-up between Orlando City and New York City FC. It was a lot of fun talking soccer with Sam and getting the NYCFC perspective on the “rivalry,” Cyle Larin, and Yankee Stadium. All of that, plus we give you our key match-ups and predictions for Sunday’s game between Orlando City and New York City FC. We're just days away from finally witnessing our beloved Orlando City SC playing in a Major League Soccer match!  The Lions will take on fellow expansion club New York City FC in the Citrus Bowl on Sunday, March 8, but it almost didn't happen. That contentious labor dispute, which raged on in recent weeks, finally came to an end and there will be no strike. Michael Citro, Andrew Marcinko and Austin David talk about how worried they were about whether the season would start on time. We also talked about Orlando City's Media Day and how the starting XI is shaping up for opening day. Then we move on to our opponents. Here to help us break down New York City FC is Rafa Noboa y Rivera, the managing editor from SB Nation's NYCFC blog, Hudson River Blue. Rafa was gracious enough to rise from his sick bed (he's just recovering from the flu) and give us his projected starting XI for New York, as well as a brief overview of the team's shape, rumors of a summer transfer deal for Barcelona's Xavi, and more.  And we give you our final score predictions, just so you can come back later and tell us all how silly we were. Here's how it all went down: 0:27- Michael, Andrew and Austin breathe a collective sigh of relief over the CBA deal, chat it up about all the excitement of media day, and tell you who likely starts among those last position battles. 24:17- Rafa Noboa y Rivera gives us the inside scoop on NYCFC and provides us with the mindset of New York fans about the whole Lampard thing. 47:26- Our final score predictions! Take them to your local bookie at your own peril. That'll do it for this week, and yes, we're moving into a weekly schedule now that the season is upon us.
