Whaaaatup and welcome back for episode 76 of Footy Banter. This week is a bit of a risky episode in that we are already lining up a replacement for USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter before any actual decision has been made about his job security. We're like, pretty sure we're gonna sack him (like we gotta, right?) but at the time of recording, that decision has not been made. I hope to god we do not look like idiots after this comes out.Nonetheless, we talk allll the options we can think of. From the dream appointment of Jurgen Klopp, to some more realistic options like Wilfried Nancy, Steve Cherundolo, and Harvé Renard. We also discuss our inability to keep BJ Callaghan around, and how the hell we didnt land Jesse Marsch when he literally wanted the job. Plus, how do figures like Patrick Viera, Thierry Henry, and Fabian Hurzeler fit into everything? And, what role does being American have to do with being the coach of the USMNT?Listen along and enjoy!
Ray played 15 years for Arsenal. And he was there for the arrival of the great Arsene Wegner – and he would go on to bring some of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League - Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera to name a few. In the 97-98 campaign, Ray was playing exceptionally well – maybe the best year of his career – and it was only natural that the national team – coached by that Tottenham legend – Glenn Hoddle - would give him a look. Coach Arsene himself lobbied the coach that there is no better winger in all of England. Glenn Hoddle was a believe in: ‘faith healing' – and the team had an appointed faith healer – a woman named Eileen Drewery. As Ray was on trial with the Three Lions, he had pulled his calf. And coach Hoddle sent him to see Miss Eileen for 'treatment'. Eileen sat him in the chair, walked round to his back and began rubbing Ray's scalp. Ray being Ray goes, 'Allright Love, take a little off the the sides and the back, but leave the length on the top' (this is a slight paraphrase, but you get the gyst) Unbeknownst to him, Ray had deeply offended Mr Hoddle with this, and would miss out on playing in the 98 World Cup as a result. But his smile was big as he recalled this story – as was mine – and it was a real joy to hear him tell me so many others – I hope you enjoy them as well - here on the soccerPod #14. Were Crystal Palace right to sack Patrick Viera when they did? Was Antonio Conte right to say Spurs should be winning trophies and need to change their methods? On episode 148 of The Straight Shootin' View, our co-host SSLJA discusses his thoughts on Crystal Palace sacking Patrick Viera with 12/13 games left in the season and the transfer window long closed. SSLJA also discusses his views on Antonio Conte's so-called 'rant' about Tottenham Hotspur not winning trophies, with Conte pointing the guns inwards, criticising the mentality and the methods at Spurs. SSLJA also looks at how quick fans are to play the blame game when results go south, especially blaming managers For more information about Pitch Talk visit: Our Official Website - http://www.pitch-talk.com http://Facebook.com/pitchtalk (Become a fan & member of our Facebook group) http://Twitter.com/pitchtalk @pitchtalk https://www.instagram.com/pitchtalk/ http://Youtube.com/pitchtalk Find & Subscribe to our audio - Add us to your favourite podcast app via RSS Feed - https://anchor.fm/s/8839b7e0/podcast/rss Anchor FM - https://anchor.fm/pitchtalk Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/pitch-talk-podcast/id445883703 Google Podcasts - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL3BpdGNodGFsay9mZWVkLnhtbA Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0y9lR6WJaNLyAr7diAHhqh#upsell Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.co.uk/podcasts/ee0280cc-f15b-49bb-a3e2-b688e0dd49d5/Pitch-Talk-Podcast? Today,The Fellas discuss the sackings of both Antonio Conte and Patrick Viera. We then get into a full Premier League discussion before getting into the FA Cup Quarterfinals. Finishing off with Winners/Losers and The Mike Dean Award.
It was a redemptive double feature for Arsenal this week. First they crashed out of the Europa League in an exciting match against the team formally known as Sporting Lisbon to a wonder goal from half field, on penalties, and in a match where Gabriel Jesus made his initial start on his comeback from a severe knee injury. Then they demolished former bogey team Crystal Palace after Chairman Steve Parish fired manager Patrick Viera before the match (psssst Steve, Patrick Viera is a former Arsenal legend and if he has done one thing in his managerial career, it's get his teams fired up to play Arsenal) to go 8 points ahead of City at he top of the table. However, they were still not the biggest show in North London. No, that would the epic blockbuster hit still running strong in it's second season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: "The Full Conte." It opens with Tottenham's 3-1 lead over bottom dwellers Southhampton melting away like the Wicked Witch of the West and concludes with Antonio Conte melting down like Howard Beale (sorry, you'll just have to Google). If only the Premier League would give Rick and Cal something to discuss on their podcasts. Oh well, they try to make do this week. Cal discusses the two Arsenal matches, what they mean for the season, and provides some interesting stats that put into perspective just how dominate the Gunners have been this season. Rick discusses Tottenham's draw with Southhampton then Cal plays clips of Antonio Conte's press conference to see if Rick melts down while discussing them. Wow! Another action packed episode!Thank you for listening!@ATFPodcast1@ATFPodcast2https://www.arsenaltottenhamfanpodcast.com
In this Podcast, Ari Stamatakos looks at the new World Cup format, and whether or not it is good for the game. Will Antonio Conte work long-term for Spurs after his meltdown in the press conference? Does Erling Haaland really make Man City worse? and should Patrick Viera have been sacked? Plenty of A-League and Australian football chat to wrap things up.
David and Jon are joined by James Gill and Simon, Cheltenham Town FC fan to chat about Exeter's 3-1 loss to Cheltenham. No, we're not trying to sensationalise Everton's recent fortunes, but after they were humbled by high-flying Brighton at Goodison Park 1-4, we can't help but ask that question and look at whether they will genuinely be in trouble. Elsewhere, Man City closed the gap with a deserved 1-0 win against meek Chelsea, while Spurs recovered from their home defeat against Aston Villa to win away from home against Patrick Viera's Crystal Palace. We dissect these matches, and look forward to the weekend's actions, including Harimau Malaya's semi final first leg tie against Thailand in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup, only on Just For Kicks!

An away loss at Patrick Viera's fast-improving Crystal Palace is no big deal in isolation, but the winless games are mounting up with Villa now only winning three in their last 14 Premier League games under Steven Gerrard. We look at the 3-1 loss and the growing concerns, as well as catching up on the other Villa news like the ghost transfer of Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.UTVBECOME A MY OLD MAN SAID MEMBER! We're very happy to welcome back writer, comedian and podcaster Kevin Day (@kevinhunterday) back to the show to talk comedy, football and more. The reason we wanted to have Kevin back on the show was to discuss the British panel show on TV, following the death last year of Sean Lock. Kevin worked with Sean on a number of shows and has written for dozens of shows including Have I Got News for You, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Here Comes the Buzzcocks and many more. We talk about why they are so popular in the UK and haven't really worked as well in the US. But we do talk about one of the shows that has succeeded in both places and that's Whose Line Is It Anyway. We talk about improv comedy, the genius of Paul Merton and Tony Slattery, among others, the culture of improv in the US vs the UK and the challenge of doing improv vs stand up. We also talk about the problems of diversity in booking panel shows and the difficulties of avoiding tokenism. We also talk about podcasts as a means for young comedians to get exposure and segue that into chatting about comedians doing football podcasts, including Quickly Kevin, Comedians Playing Fantasy Premier League and, maybe the grand dame of the genre, The Tuesday Club. We also reminisce about Kevin doing the Chappers podcast more than a decade ago with Mark Chapman, Graham Poll and Roy Meredith. That leads into actual football chat. We recorded this on Transfer Deadline Day, but not much talk about that. We discuss the arrival of Patrick Viera at Crystal Palace and how much Kevin is enjoying the football at Selhurst Park this year, the rivalry (derby?) with Brighton and the challenges that brings with hosting The Price of Football with Seagulls supporter Kieran Macguire. We also talk about the proliferation of London football clubs, rivalries and tribalism and comparing that to American sports. (Disclaimer: I accidentally swapped Alabama and Auburn in my story and flip-flopped the fandom of the tree killer in that heated blood feud. My apologies to the fans of both teams.) Kevin is always a great guest and we hopefully to get back in the near future to continue the chat about British sportswriting vs American sportswriting and the other stuff we ran out of time to discuss.

The international break is finally over but more importantly so is the TurfCast break! This weekend we welcome a different Crystal Palace side to Turf Moor than we have done in recent seasons after Premier League legend Patrick Viera took over at Selhurst Park. But despite Burnley's slow start to the season in terms of points it really feels like the Clarets have turned a corner recently and are unbeaten in three games which includes out first win and an impressive point on the road at Stamford Bridge. Can the Clarets continue this run and turn a 'decent' turn of form into an impressive string of results?

A look back on one of the most historic sides in Premier League history. Arsenal become the second side in English history (the other: 1888-89 Preston North End ) to go full season unbeaten. Are they the greatest Premier League side ever?Manager:
In the first episode of Season 2 of the MBH podcast, we sit down with professional soccer player Kwame Awuah, and discuss his experiences on the way to being drafted in the MLS, what it was like to play with Italian legend Pirlo, and be coached by Patrick Viera.

It is an extra-special Monday edition of the Filibuster podcast! Jason, Ben, and Adam are here to break down D.C. United's first game of the season, including talking about why the goalkeepers were the men of the match for both teams in that opener. We also talk about the two right back conversion projects on display during this game, as well as United's (lack of) passing, before diving deep into Marcelo's penalty. We also talk about the problems D.C. United had with Luciano Acosta being out, how Sporting Kansas City succeeded in their gameplan, before ending with Sean Franklin's role in this game and the scramble that should have led to a goal. In the second segment we welcome on Raf Noboa y Rivera onto the show to preview the upcoming match against New York City FC. We talk about how they couldn't break through against Orlando City and how Patrick Viera is having the team line up this season. We talk about Andrea Pirlo and their center backs, Alexander Ring and Rodney Wallace, and ask whether or not Raf is worried that they couldn't solve Orlando City's defense. Give it a listen!
It is a Tuesday, which means a downpour of Filibuster drowning your ears and making everyone drive 15 mph under the speed limit. We start by talking about another rainy day, D.C. United's 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire. We talk about our different minds regarding this game, before going in deep on the 4-1-4-1 Ben Olsen ran out. We also talk about Marcelo Sarvas and his role in any of these formations, before ending by talking about Steve Birnbaum, his inclusion on the USMNT's premliminary roster for the Copa America, and rumors about him from abroad. We then welcome on Raf Noboa y Rivera, from Hudson River Blue, to talk about New York City FC. We ask Raf if they have a nickname yet, before getting into matters on the field, including the feeling after beating the Vancouver Whitecaps. We also talk about Frank Lampard, the tactics of Patrick Viera, and, of course, Tommy McNamara. We then get into Federico Bravo and Andrea Pirlo, the state of NYCFC's defenders, and whether Josh Saunders is good enough to be a playoff goalkeeper, all before asking Raf to gameplan NYCFC for us. Give it a listen!
I guess it’s a sign of progress for the Union that after a 2-1 loss to Seattle we felt a bit let down, however in the battle of the two young prospects in Morris and Yaro it was the Sounder who was a bounder, overshadowing that splendiferous strike from Seba. In previous years that might have been a setback but this ain’t your, erm… older brother’s Union as the always pleasant visitors from NYC FC were given exactly what they deserved, i.e. nothing, to leave Patrick Viera shaking his (both literally and figuratively) enormously oversized head. Guess you made the right call in leaving Pirlo out, coach…
