This episode of Borne the Battle – a benefits breakdown – features HUD-VASH, a collaborative program between HUD and VA that provides support to help homeless Veterans and their families – and those at risk of becoming homeless – to find and sustain permanent housing.Veterans Matter is one of the many nonprofits which work alongside and enhance HUD-VASH's ability to reduce homelessness among Veterans.According to the 2020 Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress, there were 37,252 homeless Veterans in 2020, and 15,204 of those Veterans were unsheltered. For Meghan Deal, national director of the HUD-VASH Program, and Ken Leslie, a former homeless man and founder of Veterans Matter, these troubling statistics are an indication of the importance of their work. In this episode of Borne the Battle, Deal and Leslie answer these questions and more: What motivates them to help Veterans despite not being Veterans themselves? What does help from HUD-VASH and nonprofits like Veterans Matter look like? What makes a Veteran eligible for HUD-VASH assistance? What makes a Veteran “homeless?” How can people get involved with helping homeless Veterans in their community? If you are a Veteran who is homeless or at risk of homelessness, call 1-877-424-3838 for immediate assistance. The HUD-VASH program also has resources geared specifically for the Native American Veteran population. For tribes that are interested in providing rental assistance and supportive services to Native American Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, read up on Tribal HUD-VASH and considering submitting an application.Having access to safe and adequate housing is a human right. If you know a Veteran who is homeless or at imminent risk of being homeless, encourage them to call VA for assistance. There are people working for and alongside VA, like Deal and Leslie, who are committed to rooting out homelessness and are standing by ready to help.Borne the Battle Veterans of the Week: Marine Veteran Darin T. Hoover of Salt Lake City Utah Marine Veteran Johanny Rosario Pichardo of Lawrence Massachusetts Marine Veteran Nicole Gee of Sacramento, California Marine Veteran Hunter Lopez of Indio, California Marine Veteran Daegan Page of Omaha, Nebraska Marine Veteran Humberto Sanchez of Logansport Indiana Marine Veteran David Espinoza of Rio Bravo, Texas Marine Veteran Jared Schmitz of St. Charles, Missouri Marine Veteran Rylee McCollum of Jackson, Wyoming Marine Veteran Dylan Merola of Rancho Cucamonga, California Marine Veteran Kareem Nikoui of Norco, California Navy Veteran Maxton Soviak of Berlin Heights, Ohio Army Veteran Ryan Knauss of Corryton, Tennessee Additional Links: Check out the Borne the Battle episode on Supportive Services for Veteran Families, another VA program helping tackle Veteran homelessness in its own way. Chase Bank sent a letter to General Michael Flynn saying they are canceling all cards and no longer doing business with the General due to the harm it could do to their reputation. The American people showed Chase Bank that WE THE PEOPLE have the power and so many cancelled their accounts with Chase that the bank issued a statement that it was a "mistake" even though the letter they sent was pretty clear. We need to remember how much power WE THE PEOPLE have! I've made the statement before, Hate Has Consequences and we must not allow our emotions to dictate our actions. Ask yourself, where has hate gotten us? I've recorded this episode with a burning brain and a heavy heart. It is incredibly difficult for me to not allow myself to fall in to a mindset of hate after seeing what has taken place in recent weeks and the damage done by this administration.I have to remind myself that Hate got us this administration, Hate for a man because of the politics of personality. The visceral Hatred from establishment politicians, Hate from a biased main stream media and Hate from a monopolistic big tech communication structure that censors those with whom they disagree as quickly as Stalin, Mau or Castro... You cannot defeat Hate with Hate, and we must not allow Hate to win the day.Hate cost the lives this week of 13 brave American Heroes, Hate from murderous terrorists that have become emboldened and strengthened by an administration delivered to the American people and the world by the politics of hate. We must always remember the old adage, "you cannot cure a problem with the same mindset that created it". We must not allow Hate to win the day. Please join me in honoring the 13 U.S. Service members that were killed by these Hateful Terrorists. Share if you feel it's appropriate. The names of our fallen heroes are listed below and you can read more about them by clicking here...• Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, 25, of Lawrence, Massachusetts•Sgt. Nicole L. Hello everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Attendance Bias. This week's guest is Illinois native, Brett Kreiner. Brett messaged me on Phish.net, explaining that he was a fan of the podcast and that an earlier episode, where actor Luke LaGraff talked about the importance of the song “Lizards,” inspired him to reach out and tell his story about “Miss You.”At first, Brett said that he wanted to talk about the performance of “Miss You” from October 28, 2018 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. But as Brett explained the importance of the song overall--not just from that performance--it became clear that “Miss You” means more to Brett and his family than one 7-minute performance in 2018.  But I'll leave it to Brett to tell the details. So let's join him to hear about 1980s WWF stars at Indio, the importance of Phish ballads, and making peace with your hometown venues as we talk about “Miss You.”

Today is National Fishing Day, and the big catch is a shoutout to all dads everywhere for Father's Day this weekend. Our Associate Caller of the Day was Lowell, from Store 2368 in Pine City, Minnesota, with a big shoutout to everyone at the store. In Milestone Minute, Donald from Store 1182 in sunny Palm Coast, Florida, celebrated 40 years, while Kathy from Store 60 in Troy, Missouri, celebrated 35 years. Anthony, from Store 8958 in Indio, California, called in to take a crack at Spy the Lie and gave a shoutout to his entire team. Bo chatted with violinist Lindsey Stirling about getting back on the road and her new single “Lose You Now.” We also had Bo's Impossible Question of the Day, which asked, the first one of these appeared in 1963; what is it? Here's a hint: You may not have far to look for the answer, it could even zip right by you.

Homestead Brings a Locally-Sourced Neighborhood Market to Solana Beach

Welcome back to Happy Half Hour! This week we have two special guests, Jamie and Marie Brawn, owners of Homestead Solana Beach. The business—which served locally-sourced gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan food—was inspired by the duo's own home cooking for their sons who both have food allergies. But like many, the pandemic forced them to switch gears; and the idea was born to turn Homestead from an eatery to a neighborhood market. Jamie and Marie were running both their catering company and Homestead before the pandemic hit. When they shut down the catering company, Homestead was forced to float on its own and adapt to a changing landscape. While food and drinks are still offered, the neighborhood market they launched has become the heart of the business, stocking the shelves with locally sourced and unique goods. For Jamie and Marie, “locally sourced” doesn't just mean from the San Diego area, but any small business that has their own story. This philosophy has opened the doors to bringing in items like imported gluten-free pasta from Italy and fresh seafood sourced just outside of Jamie's hometown in Maine and shipped overnight, never frozen. Part of Homestead's goal is to bring dining experiences you would typically only find in Little Italy or North Park to Solana Beach. To fill their niche in the community, all the items on the shelves at Homestead are a little different than what you would find in the surrounding stores. In addition to those small-batch food products, they also serve food and drinks on the patio, and are preparing to launch a raw seafood bar. Jamie and Marie are looking for more people to help bring the craft food scene to Solana Beach. With a few more restaurants, Jamie and Marie believe Solana Beach will be well on its way to providing an experience like in Little Italy, where you can find somewhere great to eat just by walking around the neighborhood In Hot Plates, Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens welcomes Chef Rich Sweeney to lead the Liberty Station location and Chef Israel Ortiz to take charge of the flagship in Escondido. Verbena Kitchen, a new restaurant by Chef Ronnie Shwandt featuring a seasonal menu, is opening in North Park at the end of June. Vegan, Chicago-style hot dog pop up Chicago Not Dogs is opening a brick and mortar in the former location of The Modern Vegan this summer. Pacific Hotel opened their second restaurant called High Low and serves up fun dishes like squash blossom breakfast enchiladas and buttermilk and Indio corn pancakes. Best Restaurant voting has just started and will continue until June 15th, make sure to check out the results in September! In Two People for Takeout/Two People for $50, Jamie and Marie's favorite takeout spot during the pandemic has been Himilayan Kitchen in Encinitas for their chicken tikka masala and a triple order of naan. Troy's quest for the best donuts in San Diego brought him to Dark Horse Coffee Roasters which serves an Earl Grey vegan donut from Skinny Donuts with frosting that tastes exactly like Fruit Loops. The pozole soup at Brother's Mexican Restaurant is David's pick for the week. My recommendation is to check out Shawarma Station in OB for their rib-eye beef fries. Thank you for listening! As always, we want to hear from our listeners. Need a restaurant recommendation? Is there a guest you want us to book on the show? Let us know! You can call us at 619-744-0535 and leave a voicemail, or if you're too shy, you can email us at happyhalfhour@sdmag.com. See you next week!

She graduated from California State University in Sacramento, California with a degree in Biological Sciences. She then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio on an Army scholarship. As a graduating senior, Dr. Newman was nominated by and presented with the Marjorie M. and Henry F. After her graduation, she was accepted into the emergency medicine residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. Upon completing her program, Dr. Newman entered active duty service with the U.S. Army. Her first assignment was at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She had the distinct honor of serving under the command of Colonel Rhonda Cornum(now a retired brigadier general), a urologist, pilot and former prisoner-of-war during the Persian Gulf War. While in Bosnia, and as the only American female physician in the Balkans at that time, Dr. Newman was assigned as the official physician for Queen Noor of Jordan during a humanitarian visit to a local hospital in Bosnia. After her return home to the U.S., she was promoted to Major and completed the rest of her Army service at Fort Bragg. Dr. Newman subsequently returned to her home state of California. She has worked in rural facilities, community hospitals, trauma centers, urgent cares, correctional medicine and for the Veterans Administration. She has also served as a ship physician for a major cruise line and provided physician services at the Coachella/Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California for three years. Dr. Newman participates in public speaking engagements discussing the value of education, of which she is passionate. She continues to practice clinically as a traveling physician. While he is completing his assignment, a revolution takes place, the President is abducted and Mike with his team (that includes a traitor) develop the plan to rescue El Presidente. Mike and Indio capture the traitor on their team and then attack the island where Mike armed with a small revolver captures the revolutionary leader and rescues the President. If you’re a longtime listener, you know we have a special place in our hearts for Palm Springs, the mecca of Modernism, the home of the international film festival, the bedroom for concerts in Indio, and the cruising town that Sonny Bono cleaned up in the late 1980’s before he ran for Governor.  It’s our home away from home, but even Paris has reinvent itself from time to time.  Today’s guests are looking to 2030, 2040, and beyond, and we welcome Dick Burkett, Sidney Williams, and Richard and Debra Hovel. Later on, a few minutes with Frank Harmon.

It’s our latest edition of the show, as host T.J. Rives is back with special guests to get ready for this weekend in the ring and reminisce about one of sports’ all-time greatest upsets. First up, it’s Jr. Welterweight contender and former IBF Lightweight champ, Rober Easter Jr., joining the show. Easter is in training for the Saturday night February 20th contender bout with Ryan Martin on Showtime Network. Easter updates his training and his goals for a possible 140 lb. World Title fight later in 2021, should he score an impressive win. Then, Marquis Johns, Sr. Writer of BigFightWeekend.com, is back aboard going over the news of the week and previewing all of the action from California to Las Vegas to London, involving several World Championship fights and champion fighters in action. A championship doubleheader will take place in Indio, CA at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino, as California’s Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz Jr. will defend his IBF Junior Lightweight title against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov of Uzbekistan in the main event. Meanwhile, the co-feature has Brazilian born, Patrick Teixeira vs. American Brian Castano for 12 rounds, for Teixeira’s WBO Junior Middleweight title. The guys also discuss the passing of Leon Spinks, the former brief Heavyweight world champ who defeated Muhammad Ali in 1978. Spinks and his brother Michael still hold the distinction of being the only brothers to win boxing Gold Medals at the same Olympics (Montreal 1976) and also, to both become Heavyweight Champion of the World. And, speaking of the Heavyweight crown and upsets, it’s the anniversary of an even more astounding one, as James “Buster” Douglas’ KO-ed Mike Tyson in February 1990 in an upset that still is amazing some 31 years later. T.J. and Marquis give their remembrances and analysis on how/why the upset of Tyson that derailed his career forever happened. And, how was former president Donald Trump involved in it all, as well? This is Mr. Quincy Jones. My, uh, CDCR number is B as in boy, I, as in Indio, 92603.  I am currently housed in CDCR New Folsom in California. I have recently been a victim of police brutality, actually correctional officer brutality. You have to be very specific about these titles, especially when you take into account all that's being done out there on the streets: the protesting and making a stand to say that this treatment of people of color must come to an end today. To see so many white people protesting the solidarity for the cause is very humbling to a person like Quincy Jones. Recently, as I was saying, I was a victim, November 10th at New Folsom on CR um, officer, uh, brutality. I was, uh, thrown to the ground while handcuffed on my right eye, and, um, I- I've suffered, uh, how severe trauma to my right eye. And I was also, um, according to San Joaquin Hospital in Stockton, California, they said I had a broken, left shin. Um, my, uh, my knee, my left leg injury is still, uh, you know, causing me a great deal of pain at this time. Uh, from November 10th, all the way until recently as a week ago, I was housed in the SHU program, SHU program meaning, uh, basically, uh, you get one phone call a week, and if you want to go to the yard, you do it inside of a cage, like an animal. I feel that that was very wrong for them to do me like that. Captain Conrad also felt that it was wrong for them to do me like that and wanted them to give me more phone call uses. But they refused to listen to the captain. So Quincy Jones' treatment at this facility, uh, I feel is, uh, very, uh, unfortunate. I see a lot of things going on, uh, to help, uh, the abuse has taken a place on the street, but I don't see a lot of people standing up and making noise for what's going on behind these walls, these prison walls, these jail walls. Um, Because a lot of abuse is, is, is actually happening in here. And, um, you know, I don't know, you know, a lot of people, they probably don't want to tell their stories, but I think these stories need to be told. I think a lot of people around the world are listening right now. These commentaries are recorded by Noelle Hanrahan of Prison Radio.

Indio 809 Then Gives His Opinion On Conspiracy Theories. The Difference Between Facts, Logics & Delusional Narratives.Main Topic - Conspiracy Theory: 56:20A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that invokes a conspiracy by sinister and powerful groups, often political in motivation, when other explanations are more probable. The term has a negative connotation, implying that the appeal to a conspiracy is based on prejudice or insufficient evidence. Conspiracy theories resist falsification and are reinforced by circular reasoning: both evidence against the conspiracy and an absence of evidence for it are re-interpreted as evidence of its truth, whereby the conspiracy becomes a matter of faith rather than something that can be proved or disproved. Research suggests that conspiracist ideation—belief in conspiracy theories—may be psychologically harmful or pathological and that it is correlated with psychological projection, paranoia and Machiavellianism. Psychologists attribute finding a conspiracy where there is none to a mental phenomenon called illusory pattern perception.According to Zero Hedge, the term Conspiracy Theory was created by the CIA in 1967 as a way to discredit anyone who dared to challenge their official version of the truth .How It All Started It seems that the Conspiracy Theory CIA brainchild was first revealed in a 1976 dispatch. This communication was marked “Psych” and “CS”. The psych abbreviation referred to psychological operations or what is better known in the modern world as disinformation. The CS was the abbreviation used for their Clandestine Services unit.
