Send us a textThe Bellfield Community Hub has been one of Portobello's success stories. But it's a story with a future and this afternoon the next phase of that story - Bellfield's Big Build - will be launched with a party when we'll learn how we all as a community can be involved through a share offering. But what does that mean? In order to find out - and help those who can't attend, Hazel Darwin-Clements went along to meet Ian Cooke, Secretary of Action Porty and the Bellfield Operations Board, and Alison Jeffrey, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Bellfield. Their target is an ambitious one - to raise £200,000 from the community to refurbish the Celebration Hall and make it more accessible, flexible and warm. They believe there's an unmet demand in Portobello for more community spaces. You can find out all about the vision and how you can get involved by listening to this episode. You can find out more here: www.bellfield.scot/buy-sharesGuest Host: Hazel Darwin-Clements

Ian Cooke was at home in Brighton, East Sussex, on the morning of August 25th, 2016, when his phone rang. The caller was his 21-year-old son, Ash. Ash told his father he had been struggling to contact his girlfriend, 19-year-old Shana Grice. She was not answering her phone, and to compound matters, Shana had failed to show up for work. Unable to leave his shift, Ash asked his father to go and check on Shana at her home on Chrisdory Road…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED *** This episode was researched and written by Emily G. IT enterprises with strong ethical frameworks are successful not only in making a greater, more positive impact on society, but in terms of financial and reputational status as well. To achieve this, however, organizations must be able to involve everyone from entry-level staff to executive leadership, all while anticipating scenarios that could occur in the future. In this episode of the ISACA® Podcast, ISACA® Journal columnist Ian Cooke explains the risk zones of the Ethical Operating System, the impact of bias upon ethics, the role of automated technology within an ethical context and more.

The growth of Development Trusts across Scotland has been an undoubted success story. Over 40,000 people have been involved in buying land or property since the Community Right to Buy Legislation was passed in 2003. They now own assets worth almost £90m and have brought in £25m in regeneration funding. With a collective turnover of over £50m, they are economic success stories too. The trusts have transformed areas, especially rural ones, across the country. But as we know, the law was updated to allow for local communities to acquire buildings in towns and cities as well with of course Bellfield being the first to succeed. Bellfield had a major advantage in that Ian Cooke, director of the Development Trusts Association Scotland, lives in Portobello, just up the hill from the new community centre. Porty Podcast Producer David Calder started by asking him about his involvement.
Dawn Fay (Producing Director, Wonderbound) "I think the big goal was to push the art forward, and that's still ongoing. That's never gonna stop. The complexity of it, of our shows, the fact that now we have bands like Chimney Choir or Ian Cooke or Jesse Manley and his band and even working with Tom Hagerman who wrote a new composition for the symphony. So that's the big thing for us, is that constantly pushing that envelope of new and constantly pushing the artists that we work with to keep notching up as we keep notching up is beyond." On this episode of Behind The Scene: Guest: Dawn Fay (Producing Director, Wonderbound) Official Site: wonderbound.com The song for this episode is called Lullaby and is by Tom Hagerman, one of Wonderbound's most frequent musical collaborators. "I got to a really dark place, and I, you know, wasn't happy. And I kinda figured out slowly that I made a mistake breaking up with my boyfriend and nine months later asked him if he would get back together with me and that is kind of what this album turned into....these are love songs for this person" On this episode of Behind The Scene: Guest: Ian Cooke Official Site: www.iancookemusic.com The song for this episode is called "Beam of Light" and can be found on their new album "The Flight I Flew" - www.iancookemusic.com Listen above and as always, subscribe direct on iTunes and Google This episode brought to you by Breckenridge Brewery
Ian Cooke is one of our favorite recurring guests in the CPR Performance Studio. Last month the Denver experimental folk artist made his fifth appearance at CPR's OpenAir to share music from his forthcoming LP "The Flight I Flew." Music from the record will serve as the soundtrack for Celestial Navigation, the new show from Denver dance group Wonderbound opening Oct. 13. Ian Cooke and his band -- featuring Tom Hagerman of DeVotchKa -- played three songs from "The Flight I Flew." Cooke also spoke with Alisha Sweeney about creating an "intimate" vibe on the new LP, writing a narrative that takes place in outer space and what it's like to see his music interpreted through dance.

Though it acts as the closing chapter of a podcast trilogy, this episode works well as a stand-alone, too! Kenn has one of the deepest discussions on the podcast yet, as regulars Christian Cooke and Tom & Rosy Wagoner explore deep down the rabbit hole of existentialism with him. PLUS! Hear Rosy's second ever open-mic set, and the first comedy set Kenn has ever felt totally awesome about! This is one of the good ones, guys. Strap in.
In the second installment of this podcast trilogy, Kenn, Tom, and Rosy defend themselves/answer to Christian for some things that were said in part one. The conflict is quickly resolved before the show turns back into just four cool people having awesome conversation. Enjoy! Follow @TheKennEdwards, @cooke9000, @TWagZsr, & Breasticules.
The first episode in another podcast trilogy! Kenn has a spat with a good friend! This episode is divided into halves - in the first half, show regulars Tom & Rosy Wagoner and Joseph William Lewis meet one another for the first time! And Kenn recorded it! Then - Kenn resolves a problem with friend Christian Cooke... or so he thinks! Stick around for more on that in the following two episodes! Helen Mark is in Cornwall to find out why the reintroduction of cattle to graze the Penwith Moors of Cornwall and improve the area's bio-diversity has upset some of the local community. She meets up with archaeologist Craig Weatherhill at the Tregeseal Stone Circle to hear about the damage he says is being caused to these ancient monuments by the horns of the non-native Longhorn breed of cattle being grazed on the moors. Craig also tells Helen about the difficulties faced by horses and their riders from the newly erected gates and fences which they have to pass through. At Carn Galva, one of Cornwall's most unique and pre-historic landscapes, Helen meets up with Peter Bowden from Natural England and Jon Brookes of the National Trust who explain the reasons for the conservation grazing scheme and how important it is to this ancient landscape. This heathland is of national and international importance and the grazing scheme is intended to open up footpaths the natural way, avoiding the need for heavy machinery and herbicides, and fences and cattle grids have been put there to keep cattle in and not people out. However, when Helen joins Ian Cooke and Steve Yandall of the Save Penwith Moors campaign, she hears about their concerns for the environment and how emotional they felt to have barbed wire fences appearing out on the moors. But when she arrives at Trengwainton Farm near Penzance, farmer Stephen Bone takes Helen to a part of his land that his father fenced and grazed 40 years ago and which soon became waist high in bracken when the cattle were taken in. Stephen is actually now busy re-fencing his land ready to graze animals there as part of the Conservation Grazing Scheme. He tells Helen that he has offered an olive branch to those opposed to the scheme by suggesting that he take his livestock in during the busy summer months and school holidays. Finally, Helen meets up with Stephen Warman who has been brought in to try and resolve the situation and to narrow the gap between the two opposing sides. Where do they all go from here in order to manage the moors in the best way for all those who care about this landscape?. Producer: Helen Chetwynd.
With our duo deep in the grips of Euro 2008 fever (Spain FTW!!!), they attempt to pull themselves away from the TV long enough to talk about such non-football related things as sex-crazed lesbian vampires, the best and worst bits of the new Gladiators show, which dead animals Brian would and wouldn't eat, OCD pigs, plus some advice on where not to hide one's heroin stash. They are joined once again by their household name soap star friend, Mr. Ian Cooke, who performs Google duties throughout.
This week, the boys are joined in the studio by Ian Cooke (part-time soap opera actor, full time friend of ours). We have news of belly-button-cocaine smugglers, cousins doing it in the road, and a lot of bragging that people are actually listening to us now. Most of it is quite good, except Aaron loses the ability to talk with words that are real and making sure that he's playing the song he's talking about. Good times. You get music from Cheapskate, Blue Sun, The Bluetones, and a special submission of a possible Cabin Fever theme tune. Hope you enjoy!
