After a little summer break we're back! We get deep into our Album of the Month, Steve Lacy's Gemini Rights in Part 1. We dig a little deeper than most pods and make sure we've spent LOADS of time living with the album. In Part 2 we have one of the best 'Spin It or Bin It' that I can remember - we each bring a track and ask each other 'Spin It or Bin It?'Part 1: Album of the Month - Steve Lacy's 'Gemini Rights'It's David's choice this month and he chooses the intriguing 'Gemini Rights'. Its a tight, punchy album which gave us loads to discuss: Tik Tok, the tension between joyous music and often bitter lyrics, the influence of gender and sexuality on this album and the age of massive change that we're living in.The chat references loads of music and we highly recommend that you check out the following if you're not familiar already;Raphael Sadiq's 'Instant Vintage' Stevie Wonder's 'Innervisions' Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange'Prince's 'Purple Rain'... and my big shout out - Serpentwithfeet's 'Deacon'Part 2: Spin It or Bin It - New Music (tracks from June 2022 onwards)In Part 2 we get into one of the best Spin It or Bin It? that we've had. We each bring a track that meets a different brief every month. This month is simple - 'New Music'. We then ask each other the binary question 'Spin It or Bin It?' and then choose a track of the month from the 4. Here's our choices ... Guy's choice is Romare's 'Quiet Corners of My Mind'Nolan's choice is Danger Mouse and Black Thought's 'The Darkest Part'Joey's choice is Ela Minus and DJ Python's 'Parajos en Verano'David's choice is Sudan Archive's 'NBPQ (Topless)'Next MonthGuy will be running the show and hosting the discussion on Hot Chip's 'Freakout Release'. Toni! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpY_ElM4CYk New Jack Swing(初期のEXILEのような系統)が好きな人はマストで抑えるべきグループです! アコーティスティックかつアップテンポな「Don't Mess with My Man」や、Snoop Dogg&Qテイップを迎えた「You」などがヒットしました。 ※3作目「The Way I See It」(2008)はサブスクで視聴できないので割愛します。 ・Different Times ft. Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7IFRnQoRD2tgZ5zzJkje90?si=ExjB1laeTyuOsYvlsYX-Jw
Born Charles Ray Wiggins, "Raphael Saadiq" officially cemented his solo career in 2002 with his debut album "Instant Vintage". A sarcastic title, the album was a nod to the throwaway culture of instant pop music which Raphael believed consumed the mainstream music scene at the time. But this debut release was not the start of his career. His history includes playing in bars when he was just 7 years old, going on tour with Prince when he was 19 years old, being a part of one of the early 90's biggest selling R&B acts and producing for artists including Tupac and Mary J. Blige. I am so excited to share this with you, I just had to make a video about it! This is the easiest way EVER to make a vintage guitar. The process involves torrefaction which is like smoking meat: drying out the wood but at high temperatures instead of low ones (yes, that's what smoking does too!). ★ Learn more about starting your Guitar Journey: https://tonypolecastro.com/ ★ FOLLOW on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tac.guitar/ Torrefaction produces an authentic-looking finish that feels and sounds like old-growth timber. I couldn't believe how simple it was when I saw the pictures and heard the results. On today's episode of Acoustic Tuesday, you're going to have the chance to evaluate whether this simple technique can create an instant vintage-sounding guitar. By using this rapid-aging technique, luthiers have been able to create guitars that sound almost identical to some of the most universally loved guitars: prewar Martins and Gibsons. Once we're done discussing torrefaction, you'll get to hear about TAC Family member Jo and her guitar journey. Last but certainly not least, I'll fill you in on some of the latest guitar geek news and announcements.
