In Shaping Sounds, visionary music producer Robert Margouleff shares his stories of pushing the boundaries of musical innovation, art, and technology while helping create some of the most significant and influential music of our time.Beginning on the set of his first film, Ciao! Manhattan, with Andy Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick, Margouleff captures the tragic beauty of New York's East Village and Warhol's Factory as he discovers a powerful new way to score his movie: the Moog synthesizer. This discovery leads him to meet a studio engineer who would become his long-time partner, Malcolm Cecil, with whom he would collaborate to invent the world's largest analog synthesizer, 'TONTO' (The Original New Timbral Orchestra). Together, Margouleff and Cecil used TONTO to help unleash Stevie Wonder's genius on his era-defining classic albums Music Of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness' First Finale. In legendary studios like Electric Lady and the Record Plant, Margouleff became a pioneering producer and engineer for artists like Billy Preston, Jeff Beck, DEVO, The Isley Brothers, and David Sanborn. In the late 1960s, pioneering electronic musician Robert Margouleff and his musical partner Malcolm Cecil built something unlike anything the world had heard: TONTO — The Original New Timbral Orchestra — a sprawling, one-of-a-kind synthesizer system that would go on to reshape the sound of popular music for decades to come. A Grammy winner for his work on Stevie Wonder's Innervisions, Robert joins us in studio on the What Difference Does It Make Podcast to share the stories behind one of the most creative partnerships in music history. He takes us inside the making of Stevie's most celebrated run of records — Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness' First Finale — and reveals how TONTO's revolutionary sonic palette helped define that era. He also produced Devo's commercial breakthrough Freedom of Choice, one of the defining 80s music albums that helped bring synth-driven pop to the mainstream, and collaborated with Billy Preston and The Isley Brothers, cementing his place as one of the most influential figures behind the boards of his generation. It's all captured in his memoir, Shaping Sounds: Stevie Wonder, Devo, The Synth Revolution And My Life Behind The Music — and today, he's here to bring it to life. Learn more about your ad choices. It's difficult to summarize Robert Margouleff's career in a nutshell. He's a musical innovator thanks to him and his musical partner Malcolm Cecil's invention of a sort of synthesizer they dubbed Tonto's Expanding Headband. Tonto caught the ear of Stevie Wonder, who brought the guy's onboard to engineer/produce him during that peak 70s period (Innervisions, Talking Book, etc). This lead to further jobs with other legends like Devo, Billy Preston and Richie Havens. Music might be most of the story, but not all. He's made movies, sang opera, sailed ships, sang opera, started businesses and tons more. He tells his story well in his newly published memoir, Shaping Sounds. Robert joins us this week to discuss it all. You won't want to miss our chat or the book! www.margouleff.com www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod

Echonomist was born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is an institution in Greece's electronic music scene, while quickly growing his international fan-base through releases on labels like Innervisions, Blue Shadow, Watergate, Multinotes, and more... At early age, Petros' family got him a basic synthesizer (GEM) and hired a music teacher to teach him traditional Greek music in order to entertain his family on Sundays. Much to his family's dismay, the plan didn't seem as interesting to Petros as creating weird sounds with his small harmonium and recording his first tracks. Soon, Petros finished his first downtempo album and formed his first music project called "IνΦο". Performing live with his band, consisting of live musicians and a vocalist, they covered a wide spectrum of electronic downtempo music, releasing 3 studio albums until 2009, gaining some considerable fame–mainly in the Greek electronic music scene. Always on the lookout for new sounds and music, he soon began to DJ, discovering the full range of electronic dance music. Petros had fallen under the spell of stateside artists and labels like Maurizio, Carl Craig, Black Dog, Underground Resistance, and Echocord–to name a few. At this point he started his own solo project Echonomist, releasing his first tracks on labels such as Resopal, Upon You Records, Time Has Changed, and Dessous Recordings. Today, more than ever, Echonomist is driven by his passion for musical creativity. He has evolved into a professional DJ, producer, and live performer. While his style may vary somewhere between underground Tech House and Techno, he never compromises on quality. A fact that found him a place amongst the most prolific producers worldwide. His elaborate live performances have been met with international acclaim. As a DJ, Echonomist brings the same qualities to the table. Comfortably combining music from a wide range, Petros is a dynamic and interactive DJ who blends rolling basslines, harmonic synths, and energetic percussions to craft an infectious and atmospheric sound. It's all about devotion to the sound and a restless quest for the groove that will make everyone move.

With a partnership stretching back to 2009, Frankey & Sandrino have quietly carved out a body of work defined by curiosity rather than conformity. Their productions favour intuition over trend, moving fluidly between moods while retaining a clear, personal signature. That commitment to following their own instincts has seen them release across a broad spectrum of respected imprints, including Innervisions, Mule Musiq, Kompakt, Diynamic, as well as their own platform, Sum Over Histories. On this Balance Selections mix, the duo trace a slow-burn arc from progressive breaks into more introspective terrain. Featuring music from David August, Impérieux, Frizon and others, it unfolds as a focused, inward-looking 60 minutes that rewards close listening. @frankeyandsandrino ------------------------------------- Follow: Instagram: www.instagram.com/balance_series Facebook: www.facebook.com/balanceseriesmusic Youtube: www.youtube.com/@balancemusicofficial
No one can predict the future, but some artists are so full of talent and potential that their success feels inevitable. That's why Tomorrowland and One World Radio have carefully curated the '20 of 2026' - a list of the 20 most promising artists to watch this year. Part of this year's selection: Julya Karma. Emerging from the pulse of Brooklyn's underground, Julya Karma has quickly established herself as a force that refuses to be defined, known for her dynamic selections and infectious energy behind the decks. Her musical foundation began with classical piano at age six, also shaped by global influences, jazz, and psychedelic rock. In addition to joining the Innervisions tour alongside Dixon and Âme, her touring has included renowned stages such as Panorama Bar, Fabric, The Brooklyn Mirage, DGTL, Time Warp, and Lost Village.

The Innervisions cofounder reflects on the label's 20-year anniversary, the art of DJing and bringing politics back to the underground. One of the most popular record labels in the RA ecosystem is Innervisions, and one of its most popular DJs is cofounder Steffen Berkhahn, AKA Dixon. He started the outlet in 2005 with Kristian Rädle and Frank Wiedemann of Âme. Back when RA ran DJ polls, Dixon was #1 several years in a row. We've since retired them, but Dixon's appeal remains as widespread as ever. He made a name for himself in Berlin in the '90s when he was just a teenager, spreading a melodic strain of house and techno that became the Innervisions brand and continues to pull heartstrings around the world. This year, the label has been celebrating its 20-year anniversary, and Dixon reflects on its astronomical success on the heels of two major anniversary parties at Berghain and fabric. He also discusses how he's kept the label—and his own career—fresh and relevant; his feelings around commercial success; the importance of taking annual breaks from music and production; and his interest in reclaiming underground electronic music as a political space. Listen to the episode in full. -Chloe Lula

Long-time radio host at Bloop London with her 'Urban Soundscapes' show, and a core resident of London's Free From Sleep brand, Redfreya is emerging as a standout talent in London's deep house and melodic scene. Drawing inspiration from labels like Drumpoet, Kompakt, Best Works Records and Innervisions, her eclectic mix of deep, melodic, afro house, indie dance, and progressive techno is fast becoming her signature sound—one that is as reflective as it is danceable. Already making waves internationally, she's played for Burning Man's iconic Mayan Warrior, and shared stages with the likes of Damian Lazarus, Sasha & John Digweed, Mano Le Tough, and Âme. Having graced iconic UK venues like E1 and fabric, as well as playing across Europe, with recent ADE appearances at Selador and WhenWeDip showcases, Redfreya's journey is only just beginning—and the dancefloors are already taking notice. Across this two-and-a-half-hour mix, Redfreya takes listeners on a deep ride, emphasizing the power of the journey over the satisfaction of a destination. Featuring tracks and remixes from Chaim, Jonathan Kaspar, D-Nox & Beckers, and more, this dynamic set demands your full attention. Redfreya will perform at the upcoming Balance Croatia Festival. @redfreya __________________________________________________ Balance Croatia 2025 Fri 8th Aug - Mon 11th Aug 2025 The Garden Resort, Tisno Head to www.balancecroatia.com for more info. Dave Seaman - Two By Two (Alican Remix) - Selador Support from Adriatique, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, DJ Harvey, Super-Flu, Jonathan Kaspar, Captain Mustache, Jamie Stevens, AFFKT, Bog, Damon Jee, Animal Trainer, Magit Cacoon, Joyce Muniz, Nicole Moudaber Oh lordee!!! As if Dave's ‘Two By Two' wasn't already humungous enough, hot on the heels of the barnstorming original comes the equally magnificent Alican remix. We said the vocal hook brought to mind Divine's seminal proto-houser ‘Native Love', and we suspect our guest may have felt the same, as there are definitely traces of the trademark early 80s Bobby O production style in this peak time workout. This sizzling slice of 21st century mesmeric electro-disco further showcases our man from Istanbul's wide-ranging talents, as displayed not only on his Selador outing ‘Montroze' las year, but also on recent releases for the likes of Innervisions, Kompakt and Get Physical. Like all the best remixes, it's the perfect wingman to the Original. Get it down ya! Team Selador – Double trouble!
Direct from Istanbul, it's fair to say Alican is on something of a hot streak right now with recent releases on labels such as Innervisions, Frau Blau, Sum Over Histories and of course, his own Isolate imprint. And now, we're delighted to have him back on Selador with his new remix of Dave Seaman's latest release ‘Two by Two' out next week. So make some noise party people, for Alican exclusively in the mix for the Selador Sessions. Tracklist 1. Bar.ba & Padre - Mitosis [ISOLATE] 2. Tiello, This & That - Please, Change [AMANCAY] 3. Hey ravers, I'm excited to share my latest Melodic Techno & House mix, recorded during the summer of 2024 in my beautiful home country of Montenegro. The mix captures the essence of a perfect sunset, overlooking the breathtaking Kotor Bay. You can watch the full video on YouTube. I aimed to strike a balance—not too hard, not too soft—creating a set that blends with the golden hour, breathing in good vibes. The location is nothing short of heavenly!
