“We have to go back to the very basic thing of understanding our shared humanity. And we've departed a long way from that—even the best of us, I'm afraid. It is just stunning. I mean, we are such a danger to everything we value.” (Marilynne Robinson, from the episode) Today on the show, Mark Labberton welcomes the celebrated novelist and essayist Marilynne Robinson to discuss her most recent book, Reading Genesis. Known for novels such as Housekeeping, Gilead, Home, and Lila, she offers a unique perspective on ancient scripture in her latest work of nonfiction. In this enriching and expansive conversation, they discuss the theological, historical, and literary value in the Book of Genesis; the meaning of our shared humanity; fear and reverence; how to free people from the view of God as threatening; the complicated and enigmatic nature of human freedom; the amazing love, mercy, and long-suffering of God on display in the unfolding drama of the Genesis narrative; and overall: “The beautiful ordinariness of a God-fashioned creature in ordinary communion with one another.” About Marilynne Robinson Marilynne Robinson is an award-winning American novelist and essayist. Her fictional and non-fictional work includes recurring themes of Christian spirituality and American political life. In a 2008 interview with the Paris Review, Robinson said, "Religion is a framing mechanism. It is a language of orientation that presents itself as a series of questions. It talks about the arc of life and the quality of experience in ways that I've found fruitful to think about." Her novels include Housekeeping (1980, Hemingway Foundation/Pen Award, Pulitzer Prize finalist), Gilead (2004, Pulitzer Prize), Home (2008, National Book Award Finalist), Lila (2014, National Book Award Finalist), and most recently, Jack (2020). Robinson's non-fiction works include Mother Country: Britain, the Welfare State, and Nuclear Pollution (1989), The Death of Adam: Essays on Modern Thought (1998), Absence of Mind: The Dispelling of Inwardness from the Modern Myth of the Self (2010), When I was a Child I Read Books: Essays (2012), The Givenness of Things: Essays (2015), and What Are We Doing Here?: Essays (2018). Her latest book is Reading Genesis (2024). Marilynne Robinson received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Brown University in 1966 and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington in 1977. She has served as a writer-in-residence or visiting professor at a variety of universities, including Yale Divinity School in Spring 2020. She currently teaches at the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. She has served as a deacon for the Congregational United Church of Christ. Robinson was born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho and now lives in Iowa City. Show Notes Get your copy of Reading Genesis by Marilynne Robinson Mark introduces Marilynne Robinson and her most recent foray into biblical interpretation Overarching narrative of God's time vs. Human time Theological, biblical, historical, and literary categories Why Genesis? Why biblical commentary? “Genesis is the foundational text, and God's self-revelation is the work of Genesis.” The expansiveness of the creation narrative from the beginning of everything to two people hoeing in a garden. Elohim and the universal God-name Monotheism and the enormously cosmic assertion of the nature of God From cosmology to granular human existence Amazement and the Book of Genesis “God saw the intentions of our heart and they were only evil always.” Conjuring the idea of a vindictive God—as opposed to a merciful, long-suffering, and loving God “It's hard to wiggle people free from the idea that God is primarily threatening.” The role of fear in sin, temptation, and evil “I think the fall is a sort of realization of a fuller aspect of our nature, which is painful to us and painful to God. But it's our humanity.” From the book: “The narrative of scripture has moved with astonishing speed from let there be light to this intimate scene of shared grief and haplessness. There is no incongruity in this. Human beings are at the center of it all. Love and grief are, in this infinite creation, things of the kind we share with God. The fact that they have their being in the deepest reaches of our extensionless and undiscoverable souls only makes them more astonishing. Over and against the roaring cosmos, that they exist at all can only be proof of a tender solicitude.” Ancient Near Eastern mythology “Meaning cannot leak out of this. It's absolutely meaningful.” Genesis is a “particular series of stories that are stories of the tumbling, bumbling, faithful, faithless, violent, peaceable, loyal, disloyal agency of human beings.” Mystery Theology as a vision, a revelation “The beautiful ordinariness of a God-fashioned creature in ordinary communion with one another.” The impact of Genesis in the history of our understanding of humanity, freedom, relationships, and so much more. Law as a liberation of one another: it limits your behavior and is emancipating to everyone around you. God's patience with human freedom and the ability to go wrong The enigma of freedom “From the very beginning, the Bible seems aware that we are our enemy and that we are our apocalyptic beast.” “Our freedom is very costly. It's costly to us. It's costly to God.” Imagination and the dynamics of freedom “An enhanced reverence for oneself has to be rooted in a reverence for God.” “The idea of the sacredness of God and the sacredness of the self.” Fear and reverence “You are holding in your imagination … and helping us to see, feel, and hear the voices and see the actions of ordinary human beings, who are both (like Psalm 8), ‘a little lower than the angels,' and at the same time, ‘we are dust and to dust you will return.'” Paying attention Marilynne Robinson's upbringing, access to nature, access to books, and plenty of solitude Joseph and the ending of the Genesis narrative: How might the story of Joseph speak to our time? “We have to go back to the very basic thing of understanding our shared humanity. And we've departed a long way from that—even the best of us, I'm afraid. It is just stunning. I mean, we are such a danger to everything we value. We are a danger to everything we value. And the fact that we can persist in doing that or tolerating it … there we are, you know? … We've always been strange, we human beings.” The perplexity of freedom “The way that Joseph understands his history is a comment on the idea of divine time.” “Joseph did enslave the Egyptians.” “There is no bow to tie around anything. There's simply whatever it yields in terms of meaning and beauty and so on.” Matthew 28 and the Great Commission “Christianity sliding into empire” The value of resolution and the open-ended nature of the Genesis narrative Production Credits Conversing is produced and distributed in partnership with Comment magazine and Fuller Seminary.

Underneath the word NEBRASKA is the entire state outline of Nebraska exactly like a map. The only difference from a map is on the left side of the state there's a white cane instead of a straight line and on the northwestern border there is another white cane instead of a line. At the end of the strap of the white cane, the map continues along the river as it naturally would. The river continues all the way down to the southeast border of the state. In the middle of the west side of the state are the historic rolling sand hills, which are covered by prairie grasses. These sand hills are replicated by small wavy tactile hills as a nod to this critical and historic portion of the state, which supports the cattle industry. Starting in the middle to the right side of the print are three huge stalks of corn. There's a reason this is proudly called the Cornhusker state! 192 Berkey Creamery Bundle Package donated by Pennsylvania Council of The Blind One thing that most Pennsylvanians agree on is “Ice cream is good, and the Penn State Creamery makes some of the best.” We love ice cream, but we love the science behind it even more. In the second episode of our new series going through the book of Revelation we aim to answer two questions: 1.) Who is John(the author) writing to? 2.) Who is the mysterious voice speaking to John? Austin and Berlin continue to establish a foundation for the rest of this series focused on understanding the main voices throughout this letter. Along with answering the two questions mentioned above, we discuss the overarching story the Bible is communicating as well as briefly ask the question: Why is a Disney character from the movie Hercules in the Bible? Through his company, HospiVation, Jason coaches restaurant executives how to make their goals real in the restaurant and teaches restaurant managers how to transform their patterns of management to improve their hospitality leadership.HospiVation helps restaurants through coaching, speeches, workshops and books. They try to meet managers where they are and dive deep in the restaurant's team to help them build better teams. Jason has wanted to work in the restaurant industry since a very young age and got his first job as a restaurant dishwasher at the age of 15. He's worked for 20 different restaurant brands during his career. One of the biggest mistakes restaurant managers make when it comes to leadership is trying to do everything by themselves and not learning to delegate. It's important for managers to understand a restaurant's KPIs, but it's also important for EVERY member of the team to understand the KPIs and how success is measured. In an effective meeting, the meeting organizer and leader should talk 20 percent of the time and the rest of the attendees should talk 80 percent of the time. QUOTES “I came in through the side door. I started out washing dishes at a very young age. My mother didn't even know I got a job.” (Jason) “I've worked for 20 different restaurant brands and six of the top 100 brands in the U.S. This has given me the ability to see the Mona Lisa painted 20 different ways. All of those learnings helped to shape my company, HospiVation.” (Jason) “Ask any social media manager. It's very hard to get people to follow you and it's even hard to keep them.” (Jason) “It's not just managing, leading and coaching – it's knowing the difference between the three. We use managing more than anything else in our day as a hospitality leader. Leadership is different. Leadership is understanding the overarching items about the industry and where to move the brand next.” (Jason) “Coaching is the mastery of small groups and one-on-ones. Coaching is you creating a space of 30 minutes to listen to your team.” (Jason) “When it comes to mastering your meetings, you have to understand that if you aren't sitting down to make a decision, you probably shouldn't be there.” (Jason) “You should never stop training, even when someone puts in a notice (and are departing soon).” (Jason) TRANSCRIPT 00:00.00vigorbrandingHello everybody today’s guest is Jason Brooks he’s a motivational speaker an expert in restaurant management and the author of the book every leader needs followers 10 keys to transform restaurant managers into hospitality leaders Jason. Thanks so much for being here. Um, I’d love to start off with just you talking a little bit about your past like some of the places you’ve been and some of the things you’ve done. 00:26.34Jason BrooksThank you Michael ah, it’s a pleasure being on forktails in amazing podcast. Your listeners are full First they know their business. They know what they’re talking about so I am honored. Um, you know my past is like many. Pasts of coaches of speakers meaning that I came in through the side door and and I started out washing dishes very young age 15 first job. My my mother didn’t even know that I got a job. Ah, she just came home one day after three weeks of working and there were a lot more groceries in the fridge than when she went to work and she’s like Jason where did all this food come from and like mom I promise I didn’t do anything bad I got a child. But cooking has been something that has stuck with me even up to this day I still find different recipes. You could find me on the weekends breaking out the smoker I have a traeger whether it’s brisket or some chicken or some ribs and. I am getting down but I’ve been in this business I’ve been in this industry for thirty plus years and I’m known as what some may call a restaurant lifer. Um, even though I’m a restaurant lifer I had some odd jobs. 01:53.21Jason BrooksIn between here and there because people that get in the restaurant business. They don’t typically wake up at the age of 7 and say I want to work in restaurants. You know they actually say I want to be a fireman or I want to be this? Um, so there was a time there that although I was good. In the restaurant business I fought it and I found that most people fight being in this business at some point because they think it’s trying to change them. They think that it’s trying to change themselves from being authentic. And it takes having that right mentor that right person that you lean on or your spouse or friend saying what are you doing you are you are good at this. You need to do this or you to then say? Okay I’m going to now truly invest my time in this. Um, but I’ve worked for 20 different restaurant brands 6 of the top 100 brands in the us and I always say this has given me the ability to view the Mona Lisa painted 20 different ways. Some of them are some amazing pieces of art. Some of them are just pieces but all of these learnings from all these brands help to shape my company called hospitalation which is hospitality and motivation and is putting that motivation back into hospitality. 03:23.31vigorbrandingFantastic. That’s great. Ah, and I you know I got to see some of your podcasts. They were wonderful and your energy is contagious I Love it. Absolutely love it. Um, so talk we’re gonna talk about your book. But let’s talk about hospiation a little bit I mean talk about what it does What you’ve been doing with it and you know give us some some background there. 03:27.43Jason BrooksAre. 03:42.45Jason BrooksUm, probation was made to help manage lead and coach restaurant tours executives back to some of the foundations that may have been lost, especially within the last four years there’s been some things lost within the skill set. Of our teams and also some some of of the things that as owners we need to recognize more of what our teams are missing to help close that gap so hospitalation helps to close the gap between. Customer or guest expectations and the operator or owner execution and we do this through coaching through speeches through workshops through books. Um, we try to meet. The owner meet the manager where they are and give those pieces and leave everything on the table I mean leave it all on field. There are no secrets. It’s just being able to help dive deeper into that team or into that person. To find out what really drove them to be successful and then help double down on those tactics on those skillsets for them to build better teams around them. 05:01.89vigorbrandingVery good. Um I mean like you know I look at I mean we we employ a lot of folks here in our company and probably 100 and some employees and you know different generations come in and I’ve been doing this for a really long time and you know I see different types of sort of attitudes and stuff and. You know we we we all lived through the whole covid thing and the restaurants I mean getting back and coming back I mean you you have in here about the motivation. Do. Do you feel like restaurants and the hospitality industry in general has lost its motivation. Are you feeling that that that they need that maybe ah, an infusion of ah of motivation. 05:38.37Jason BrooksUm, I mean it is motivation. It’s also a understanding of finding out and just remembering what made you successful before.. For example, there’s a lot of times whenever. Let’s let’s go through the whole ranks when a cook shifts into a manager role. What made them successful as a cook they tend to leave that behind as a manager or a manager into a multi-unit manager. Whenever you are a manager you’re running your own restaurant. Um, you tend to use ah a checklist you tend to create mini gms you tend to have all these things in place because there’s so much on your plate. That you need reminders to help make sure that you cover all the bases that you need to cover and then all of a sudden when they shift into a multi unit manager they tend to shoot from the hip. They don’t have any checklist. They don’t walk into the building studying anything about that business whenever they walk in if they’re running multiple restaurants same thing as owners we think that we are exuding some of the same things that made us successful. 06:56.88Jason BrooksBut we have to revisit. What is it exactly that made us successful within our last role and now how do we bring that into the next and that’s what that’s that motivation that is missing. We can’t leave things behind. We have to bring them with us. 07:14.34vigorbrandingGood. So okay, let’s talk about your book I see it behind you there leadership every leader needs followers 10 keys to transform restaurant managers into hospitality leaders. Um, it’s not easy to get people to follow. You is it as a leader. 07:17.99Jason BrooksUm, I Yes, um. 07:26.71Jason BrooksNo no, ask any social media manager it is it. It’s it’s very hard to get them to follow you and it’s even harder to keep them and that’s where that’s where some of the 10 keys. Covers is not only how do you build a followship and you have to be a wonderful follower yourself. But then how do you keep that as well. 07:54.33vigorbrandingVery good. So what? What? What do you think are the biggest mistakes the restaurant managers are making when it comes to being an effective leader. 08:02.48Jason BrooksHands down doing it by yourself I’ve seen it too many times we come in as a manager and we think that the things again the things I used to do I can just do it and then I’ll do it by myself. I don’t have trust and whenever you you try to lead a restaurant team by yourself. Yes, there’s things that you should bring with you but there’s a lot of management and leadership things that you have to learn because. Managing and leading a group of people is it natural. It is something that you have to invest time and and even money in order to make sure that you do this right? and when I say money as a investment time is money. When we put 3 hours of our life into something else that definitely cost us. We could be doing something else. But the return we get when we invest in the right way to manage lead and coach that return is just amazing and it’s not just. Managing leading and coaching is knowing the difference between the three because managing is using or or having a group of people keep. 09:24.99Jason BrooksKeeping them in the guard rails to hit a certain point by a certain time and remain within a certain budget. We use managing more than anything else within our day as a hospitality leader leadership is different. Leadership is is really understanding that. Overarching ah items about the industry about the trends about what’s going on about where to move the brand to next and it’s also when a group of people have run into a situation that they don’t know what the next step should be. And then that leadership mindset helps to shift it into painting the picture for them to see ah that’s exactly where we have to go I can’t believe I didn’t see that before now coaching is different than managing and leadership coaching is that mastery of small groups. 1 on one. That’s the thing that we forget to bring with us whenever we are trying to lead our teams is the coaching aspect. We think I don’t need to coach my teams. My team has been around been working together for the last two three years I pay him $15 per hour. They better know what to do, but it’s just not true and coaching also isn’t just you making 1 on 1 time to spew more stuff onto them coaching is actually you creating a space 30 minutes to listen to your team to find out what their challenges are. 10:59.85Jason BrooksBut they’re trying to accomplish about themselves a a about their family. All the things that helps build that relationship that when they’re in your building In. You’re not there. They have the the skillset to make the right choices with maximum results. That’s the key to coaching. 11:20.24vigorbrandingYeah that’s ah, that’s well said I know that a couple of things you said there were really really interesting. The 1 thing you said it was a big mistake people make is they do it themselves and you’re right I think as leaders sometimes we’re so used to doing things or we know how to do it and we take it for granted, we don’t take the time to for for lack of a word teach. And bring people along right? I mean you know it’s just ah, it’s one of those things where um, if you don’t take the time to to train and coach. Ah, you’re not you can’t expect them to to learn and and to excel I think that’s ah I think it’s a really good point that you made. Um so you know in your book you have 10 keys for effective restaurant leadership. 11:48.90Jason BrooksUm, but. 11:54.74vigorbrandingWant to talk about 1 of the one of those keys and you talk about kpis I mean obviously it’s important for the managers to know about the kpis but you feel it’s important for everyone to understand talk about that a little bit. Why why? Why are the kpi so important. 12:08.80Jason BrooksBecause of what we do every year as a business every year if you look at your window. Not just we do it every business that is on your block does the same thing they create this business plan. They make the business plan. They put a core of people that’s in the c-suite or just on the on the ownership team they make this business plan print it on a pretty parsial paper put it in a frame hang it on a wall and then maybe a senior manager or 2 knows exactly what that is. And by the time it gets down to the guest-facing employee. It is lost so what I mean by master your kpis as being the number one key is that it isn’t just knowing your numbers It’s not just knowing sales. And and and your profits and your losses it is about how do you create that number and make a connection with the human element that is in your business every position and either help you or hurt you in making those business goals. The question is whenever we make those goals or big rocks. Do we know what we’re doing when we make those big rocks and whenever I say big I like to use the acronym b I g not just because I like the rapper but b I g because b if it’s a big rock. 13:35.69Jason BrooksThe B is for believable is the goal can it actually be attained I intentional. Yes, it may be a goal but are you actually putting effort is your team putting effort behind making that goal happen daily and then G grounded. Grounded is if we don’t make this goal. We will not be successful at what we do so whenever we make those goals those big rocks Those Kpis are we making it believable intentional and grounded and then when we do. How do we create that same pattern for what the buser does what the host does what the matrid does what? what the cook does every single person has to understand what is the human element in the things that they do within their role 3 things that they can do to help. 14:31.40vigorbrandingVery cool. So I mean sometimes though the Kpis the numbers and all that does that get in the way of the customer experience can that some kind sometimes dilute or detract from the attention that they deserve for the customer experience. 14:31.48Jason BrooksMake that happen. 14:37.92Jason BrooksAnd. I think that’s where whenever you break it down to make the human element behind it. That’s where it makes sense because you can say that it is to grow sales. But if it’s only about the dollar item. And you’re only telling that for just the server that they need to grow sales that doesn’t make sense that does take away from the from the experience but whenever you can say whenever you can actually connect with your guest and get them to come back 2 more times because you wowed them. Because you beat the guest to the hospitality meaning you were getting things for them that they didn’t even ask for that. You remembered their anniversary when you can make that true connection and make them choose us over someone else on on the same block. That’s how we build sales. So yes, it is a number but when you can connect the human element to it. That’s whenever you can actually you can improve that experience not just make it numerical. 15:50.00vigorbrandingYeah, you nailed it I mean at the end of the day we’re we’re serving. We’re serving guests and it’s people and we want to make their day. We want to make them feel special and it is more than just numbers at the end of the day there’s numbers involved when we gets paid. We’re doing this for business. It’s ah it’s a living. It’s a passion but it’s you know it all comes around the the customer I think that’s super important I think that ties into the next thing one of your chapters in your book owner like orientation. Ah, really interesting. We. We have a thing here in our company. Um, we we as an agency. Ah. Have a thing called Homeroom which goes back to the old school days we get together on a Tuesday morning the entire organization multiple cities and we we talk about the good the bad and the ugly of the industry and at the end we ask people what they’re passionate about passion is one of our core values. And we also talk about putting your name on the door and what we mean by that is if your name was on the door. What would you do what would you do differently how would you improve the company what do you suggest and so I think that’s like a really important thing and ah we want I want people to to act like owners if owners care. Ah, owners care about the customer so owner like orientation half the feeling might might tie in there. can you can you talk about that a little bit. 17:03.48Jason BrooksYes I think that definitely when we bring our team in with the bigger picture things happen and what I mean by that is that we typically do orientation wrong right now we’ll bring them in. We’ll have a table ready some aprons shirt hat name tag. And then they’ll have a seat a stack of paper and then they’ll scribe until the pen runs hot then we’ll take them back. Put them on a laptop for possibly some computer-based training and then put them on 1 position what we’re doing right? There is that the only thing that that they’re owning is three things. 1 table which happens to be their favorite break table if you ever notice the table you do orientation at ends up being their breakck table then 2 a laptop and 3 1 position and then for the next 6 to eight weeks we’re hoping and praying that they tend to branch out to do more. While the people who train them are just going crazy because they’re like Steve where are you getting these horrible hires from they don’t want to do anything so that’s where we first start out with doing orientation wrong which is one of the easiest way. That any listener can change their ro I on a new hires. What I propose is this tick scene table same setup papers all all of that good stuff when you bring them in shake their hand ask them if they’re thirsty and then say where we we are going to start outside. 18:37.73Jason BrooksYou take them outside and not just outside you take them out all the way out to the road by the curb on the edge by the cars driving by and you then say this is your restaurant and this is mine too and this is the view that every single customer sees whether they are stopping by here or not. They they see it from the curb all the way in and this is how we look compared to our neighbor and this neighbor we actually pick up all this trash from the curb all the way up every single day because we want to make sure that we look amazing to everyone that chooses to eat here or not. And then you walk them on it. We also sweep the parking lot not just up to the curb but all the way to the edge of the lot. This is our sidewalk. We actually scrub this this is our trash cans whenever we drop trash. We pick it up and then we sweep it and we keep the doors closed because we want to keep all the flies inside. We don’t want them flying out and then as you’re doing this as you’re walking them as you’re walking them through you’re you’re also checking their body language. How much does it suck whenever you hire someone and three weeks later they’re like ah this is too much for me I’m out of here wouldn’t you want to know on day zero. This is not going to work out. So as you’re walking them around the exterior giving them that owner like view as you walk them in now talk about sightlines for the customer and break it down to a 1 a 3 and a 5 a one being the lowest or subpar a 3 being par. 20:11.50Jason BrooksAnd a 5 being exceptional service and then you’re talking them through what a 1 3 or 5 is at the host stand with a host creek with it being neat and being tidy as they’re walking through the dining room what they can hear from the kitchen ass are sitting down. You’re now connecting. Your guest experience scores with your walkthrough and they now understand and see the whole building more as you’re doing this? Yes, you do add on forty five maybe fifty more minutes onto your onto your orientation. But the return on investment you get. Of them knowing that they can help when they pull up in the parking lot. Not just when they’re in position and then your trainer’s like oh man Steve these new hires you you you you ah must have got these guys from chick-fil-a. Dunked them in the back office in holy water and then brought them back out saying please and thank you like? no actually I just made sure that they understand the big picture on day one and then that way when I pass them off to you. They now see things differently. 21:22.40vigorbrandingThat’s great. That’s great, Well look as a marketing company I mean we’re hired to help build brands and oftentimes people think a brand is the logo the name. Maybe it’s the social media the personality that we project in the in the advertising and all that which is they’re all parts of the brand. But. 21:26.83Jason BrooksHe. 21:38.69vigorbrandingAt the end of the day I mean it’s how the customer feels when they’re in there. It’s the product of course. But it’s also the experience and that’s part of the brand. So the folks you’re training are your brand. Ah you know evangelists and they’re going to be what people remember when they drive by to use your your analogy going by the road and they look over at that restaurant. They’re going to remember how they felt. 21:40.57Jason BrooksGreater. But we can. 21:57.93vigorbrandingWhen they were there Sure they’re going to think about the food and if it was good and it was a good value. Did I they treat but that that experience and and it’s really going to be those folks that you’re training that are going to make that good or bad and we’ve all eaten it. Phenomenal restaurants. Food was great and and the the service was bad, something went wrong along the way. 22:04.97Jason BrooksAre are are. 22:15.71vigorbrandingAnd in this day and age we can’t afford that I mean every touch point of the brand has to be at its peak and the people are are really integral to the the whole thing um key 6 another one of your your your your keys now I think you and I might disagree on this. Maybe we don’t I don’t know but I’m gonna I’ll dive into it. Master. 22:31.87Jason BrooksI. 22:34.68vigorbrandingMaster your meetings I hate meetings I think meetings end up being half of them more than half of them are a waste of time perhaps because I’m in them I don’t know but I just I don’t find them to be I don’t find them to be valuable at all and you know you have agendas you have follow through. You have ah deadlines and all that stuff. But. So talk to me about mastering a meeting and maybe ah maybe I’m going to learn a lot here because I have a feeling I’m going to. 22:59.23Jason BrooksWell first we suck at meetings and no, no, we we actually suck at meetings because there’s times we we ah ah have meetings in order to fill. 23:02.30vigorbrandingOkay, maybe that’s it Maybe I sucked at me. Maybe ah maybe maybe that’s when I learned this whole thing. Okay, so. 23:16.30Jason BrooksTime and space a meeting should be defined as the reason why I’m asking you to step away from your role is because the thing that we need to make a decision on. We can’t unless you are there. That’s it. 23:32.81vigorbrandingMe here. 23:35.97Jason BrooksIf that doesn’t apply to the person that’s at the table. They shouldn’t be at the table 1 and 2 you probably shouldn’t be having that meeting now a a meeting that is repetitive like let’s say a manager’s meeting why sometimes they suck. Is because it is a data dump. It is a absolute data I treat meetings the same way I treat one on ones except even a bit more extreme if it’s my meeting that I’m running I should be speaking 20% of the time. The rest of my team is speaking 80. 24:12.30vigorbrandingAnd. 24:14.29Jason BrooksAnd that’s because at that point I’ve already done um key number 3 in the book which is delegate by creating many gms I have created many managers within each department and their goal is to report out on. What’s going on and those goals from from my many gms are linked to key number 1 master your kpis they understand what the kpis are they understand the human element that is behind it and they deep dive on that data and bring it to the table. So. When it comes to to key number 6 mastering your meetings. The main thing you have to do is understand that if you weren’t sitting down to make a decision. You shouldn’t be there and 2 if it is something that is a consistent meeting. It’s a 20% from the person that’s running it and 80% from everything else because when you do that you then build this ownership and a different view on things within your building I’ll say one last piece we have gotten into firefighting way too much. We have some amazing firemen and fire women within the hospitality industry but we’ve got to stop firefighting because when you firefight you shoot from the hip you see the fire you pull the hose out. 25:41.82Jason BrooksAnd you just start dumping water on that fire. But when a fire happens in a building think about it. You’re facing one side of the building and you can only see one side.. There can be several things that is going on all around that building. We’ve got to stop being. Fire men and fire women and we had to start being fire Chiefs A fire Chief has firemen and fire women all around the building putting out these fires for us and we can say the same thing about these meetings whenever you are fire chiefing your meeting your fire team. Understands exactly what’s going on but you have put them in places around your business to know where those spires are to where you have better control of everything else. 26:30.96vigorbrandingThat’s good analogy I mean I I love analogies and I think that makes it very so that’s why you’re good at what you do I mean it was very easily understood. Well done. Um, okay so training we talk about the importance of training right? and we ah we know it’s important to train. 26:32.72Jason BrooksAre. 26:44.63vigorbrandingAh, you feel it’s important for ongoing training which I think is interesting and and certainly makes an awful lot of sense. Um, why why is that I mean like let’s face it with with a turnover in this world with with people. Maybe they’re not going to be in the job for three months why would I spend so much time training them. Um you you feel that’s important. Let’s talk about that. 27:03.91Jason BrooksYeah I definitely feel that um, never stop training is one of the keys to being successful and of course we like to say it but we don’t really like to budget it. We can train our way in and out of anything. We really can. How we fall short of executing never stop training is that we don’t have a training plan that again goes back to what the plan is we have we have a training plan. Yes, but it’s a training plan one. That’s probably been the same training plan for the last 3 4 or 5 years versus each year do we sit down and say now that our objective is this? how are we training it’s not just how we hit that number. It’s not just growing digital sales. It’s not just getting better marketing. It’s. Do we have that included within the training poke in in the in the training program for our teams or are we just adding that in here and there second piece to never stop training is it absolutely as you and I both know it needs to be written down that that doesn’t mean. That our team currently trucks at sucks at training that means that our team has several things on their mind bills spouse car. All that good stuff they are going to lose their thought and their focus. 28:31.35Jason BrooksOn the thing that they should be training that that should be a core fundamental. That’s whenever that never stop training that checklist training helps because we we want you to say all the foundational things and with how long you’ve been with me I still want you to add on. That whipped cream the cherry and the sprinkles on top from all the things that you do well to but I want to make sure that the foundation of what’s being said to every single person is done last piece on never stop training I believe that you continue training. All the way up to their last day even if they put in a two week notice you train them all the way up to their last day and do you know why? because if you have 50 people that’s on your staff and you now have 51 because you are replacing one that put in their notice. It doesn’t help you by saying well I got one more so I’m a stop training the person who’s leaving no whenever you train the one that’s leaving you are also shifting that training you’re shifting that mindset you’re training them. How to onboard onto a different team even if it is your competitor you are training them how to get on board. How to get to learn the people how to get to learn their culture because a few things happen when that happens one everyone around you. 30:01.10Jason BrooksIt’s watching the attention you’re still putting into the person that’s leaving and they’re like that is a true coach and then number 2 number 2 is how many times is it that the grass is truly greener on the other side. So you shipped into the alma still keep training you I’m going to train you to be the next whatever that you are getting into. Let’s say you get there and it sucks guess what’s going to happen. Ah Jason ah I actually want to come back because grass isn’t greener. Then you’re able to now still build on your team but I truly believe you should never stop training even when they put in a notice. 30:42.62vigorbrandingYeah I Think that’s Great. We’ve had an awful lot. We call them. Boomerangs. We’ve had several people leave during the great resignation. You know for the grass being greener and we’ve had several boomerangs come back and you make another really wonderful point and that is people around you that are on your team that are staying on your team that are. Loyal and dedicated. They see how you treat people when they leave and um, that’s a reflection on you as a leader and I think that’s really important to to keep that in mind. Ah you know if you sit there and say bad things about somebody. You know the moment the door closes behind them just ah, that’s just really a poor reflection on and on you as Leader. So I think that’s ah I think it’s very sage advice. 31:08.00Jason BrooksAre you. 31:20.12vigorbrandingRight? So um, we talked about training another thing you talk about which I find this to be I think this is really important ah closing the gap between the restaurant manager and what the customer sees I mean again. Ah you know we always often say we’re too close to it I think that may be the case here with with managers you want to talk a little bit about that. 31:20.86Jason BrooksBrother I know. 31:39.10Jason BrooksOh yes I I love this topic um and closing the gap is is. It’s there because we live the 2 wheel life michael do you know what? the 2 wheel life is okay. 31:50.89vigorbrandingI do not know what the 2 wheel life is I don’t own a motorcycle so I assume that’s what it is but I mean maybe not. 31:56.87Jason BrooksIs that although our car has 4 Wheels we are pulling into the parking lot. So damn fast. We may as well be on 2 wheels and do you know why? because we’ve gotten that fourteenth text with the fifth picture about the close last night and our main truck call said that they’re short on drivers and now the truck order is due. third third 30 minutes ago and payroll calls someone forgot to clock out last weekend and you have to log into the portal and change your hours or else they can’t process payroll so that’s why you’re on 2 wheels. Doors open Bigfoot Dragon trying to get out the car and you walk up to the front the host and has a line and you’re like ah let me come help get these table sat bus some tables run to the back, get the line down. Finally get your truck order in fix payroll. But by this time. You are on fire. Your heartbeat is racing 120 beats per minute you are lapping like Nascar you’re touching tables. You’re pointing out things to clean and you’re like whoa girl I’m on fire this is amazing. You work a triple double that day heartbeat racing. And you get home somehow fall asleep and then your email goes off ding and it’s that guest complete a 2 on clean. They had a horrible experience. You just about flip your table but they’re lying no way I was there all day. 33:30.25Jason BrooksI worked the whole day I was lapping like Nascar I was touching on tables I was telling people what to clean. There’s no way. But there’s a gap. There’s a gap between what the operator experiences and what the guest does and that gap is because we are walking through like the terminator. Head on swivel I view Twenty feet out twenty feet wide looking for the next fire fire hose on the hip just looking for that next fire and we are standing at at an average five foot six height looking down to see what that next thing is. Our customers though. It’s very different their heart rate actually slows down when they’re pulling onto our lot first, they want to see are we open. They want to see is the parking lot. Clean does it look like someone lives here. They then pull up they get out. Ah, the car slow walk up to the door and then the the guest learned this trick from covid they now check the little slit of the door to see is the bar there because they don’t want to yank um, make on the door and pull their arm out their sockt like ah it’s open. So then they finally get in like yes I can stop eating from the dashboard of my car they walk in their heartbeats slow down things are good and then they sit down and they’re sitting at an average of three feet high heart rate heart rate has slowed down eyes are dimmer. 34:59.56Jason BrooksWhen your eyes when the the ah light is dimmer your your pupils actually get bigger and then whenever you’re looking at a distance of about eighteen inches from the table to your food. You are looking at that eighteen inch and then no higher than three feet while the manager heart rate fast 20 by 20 view and walking quickly. There’s a huge gap there in order to close that gap one of the things that that you have to practice which is hard is pulling yourself out the shift. Scheduling yourself to not be in position sometimes that’s hard. We are trained from day one that when things are short we are locked in. We make that happen. But at least once a week you have to take that customer view and I’m not taking and I’m not talking taking the view. Right? before it opens. That’s like having a super bowl ad well before the game starts when it’s peak periods walk out to your lot all way to the edge view. What’s going on because that’s when the most advertising is being done walk up through the lot. Then walk in then you’re listening in then you’re hearing what’s going on when you do this during peak volumes once a week even if you can’t once a month 36:24.00Jason BrooksThat helps you to understand what that what the guest is actually going through versus well before opening or after close. 36:33.99vigorbrandingThat’s great Jason I love your passion I got to tell you so like what? what’s what’s next for you. Ah, you’re making your rounds as the speaker I mean is there a new book any trips coming up. 36:44.20Jason BrooksAnd there is a if there is a pocket companion to the book that is going to be coming out. Ah the every leader pocket guide something that managers owners can can actually have on them. Ah, a flip book style to be able to keep them on track to never lead alone again. I actually have another ah session. That’s that’s coming up for the international bowl expo that’s going to be in Denver um I will be at the qsr. Evolution conference with Danny Klein I’ll be moderating one of the panels of how to scale culture. Um, there’s a few more speaking engagements that that I’m closing in on now. But it’s been very busy, but it’s been great I get to meet lovely people just like you just like your listeners and talk great shop about what’s going on and how to put that people piece with the numbers in order to better manage lead and coach. 37:47.34vigorbrandingYeah, it’s it’s awesome I mean this industry is a way of life and it is ah people dealing with people and I think that’s super important and it does make it very tactical and grounded and it’s ah it’s great to have people like you out there helping lead and coach and teach. So ah. That’s fantastic. So I have one last question. Let’s go I asked this of everybody if you had 1 last meal. What would you eat where and why. 38:10.40Jason BrooksI have 2 answers for that first answer is a place that I haven’t been yet but I hear great things about and my last meal for that would be Oso Buco from pierro’s in Las Vegas 38:24.16vigorbrandingNice. 38:26.68Jason BrooksAh, heard that they make some amazing. Oh so puco. But that that would be 1 that I haven’t been to but would love to um, second one is I’m going to cheat and say that I’m very. Egotistical and I love my own food if you just give me the food and let me cook it I will that will be more than glad to be my last meal. So I I would do brisket. It takes me about three days um beef brisket i’d. 38:51.52vigorbrandingWhat would be what what? what? What are you cooking for yourself. 39:00.41vigorbrandingNice. 39:02.74Jason BrooksI trim it my I trim it my my ah my ah self and then I will slather it with some horse radish I make my own rub. Let it sit for about 48 hours smoke it low until it gets to write about one sixty pull that baby out wrap it in some parchment paper. Put it back in. Let it get to 206 pull it out at 8 put it inside the cooler just a regular cooler for 4 hours slice that baby up make the barbecue sauce from scratch and then do a smoked bake mac and cheese. With some grilled corn and um, yeah, that’s it right? there? um. 39:44.65vigorbrandingIt sounds fantastic I even eat lunch day so I’m starving. That’s you did well that was that was as good as anything that’s beautiful, beautiful well done so hey listen Jason thank you so much for your time and your insights it was really really ah educational. Thank you. 40:00.59Jason BrooksThank you Sir and I do appreciate the invite you listeners have ah ah a wonderful time Fork tales. Thank you so much. This has been great. 40:07.34vigorbrandingAwesome! See you soon.
We are thrilled to share this Special Edition COBT episode featuring Peter Orszag, CEO of Lazard. Peter assumed the role as Lazard CEO in the fall of 2023, after serving as CEO of Lazard's Financial Advisory business. Prior to his tenure at Lazard, Peter's wide-ranging career includes serving as Director of the Office of Management and Budget and as Director of the Congressional Budget Office during the Obama Administration. Today we're joined by Hot Girl Farmer, and we're just covering one topic, the Texas Age Verification Law that passed back in June, and P.0.r.N.HU8's response. Now, this topic is vast and covers a lot of facets that the Daily Decrypt and its audience are interested in, such as data protection, such as censorship, all of these things. And so we're just going to be focusing on this one topic for the whole episode. And though it does revolve around P.0.r.N.HU8 as a company which inherently involves adult content, we won't be going into any sort of graphic detail or anything like that. There may be mention of certain things that go on on this website, but nothing too crazy. But if you're sensitive to The type of content P.0.r.N.HU8 provides, it might be in your best interest to skip this episode. Though we don't encourage it because it's going to be pretty juicy. [00:01:00] Okay, so on June 6th of last year, Texas Governor [00:01:07] offsetkeyz: Greg Abbott signed into law a requirement that any website that displays adult content must verify the consumer's age before they can see the content. So that was, what, nine, ten months ago? Which, [00:01:23] HGF: immediately I thought of when you go to an alcohol website and it asks you for your birthday. So I was like, oh, verification would be good. And nobody wants children to view P.0.r.N.Ography, literally no one wants that. And I would think most people also think it's best to be consumed over the age of 18. I was like, okay, I don't really understand the controversy yet. I feel like people can get on board with verifying your birthday. [00:01:48] offsetkeyz: Right, and if it was just that enter your birthday verification style, It might not be as big of an issue, but the law itself required more stringent data [00:02:00] verification, such as entering in your data on a third party site that then verifies your identity, but you know what data they require. We're not entirely sure or entering in a credit card number or entering in information from your mortgage or like very. poking and prodding for this data. So that was signed into law. Immediately a group of plaintiffs, one of which was P.0.r.N.HU8, sued the state of Texas for censorship. Fine. Just last week, the state of Texas and the Fifth Circuit sided with the law that Governor Greg Abbott put into place requiring age verification. And so P.0.r.N.HU8 decided to take its service offline in the state of Texas as a protest. P.0.r.N.HU8. is not against age verification. So I'm just going to get that out of the way up front. P.0.r.N.HU8 is very pro age verification, but they're pro age verification in ways that make sense and don't [00:03:00] censor users and don't hurt people. Don't put people's data at risk. They want it to be a streamlined process. They want it to at least be accurate. know, At this point, it's more of a formality than it is an accurate way of verifying age. [00:03:15] HGF: Yeah, the methods that were available were not potentially secure or divulge too much information. Like a lot of personal private data from a third party site, right? [00:03:25] offsetkeyz: Right. And you can imagine that if you are someone of the age that should not be consuming adult content, which I believe is anyone under 18 across the country? I'm a little older than 18, uh, so I don't really know firsthand. Doesn't affect me, I don't have kids, but I don't know. You could get your parent's credit card and enter it in. There's not going to be any charges. It's just a verification method. You could go into your parent's filing cabinet and get your parent's mortgage. You could get the deed to their house and enter in [00:04:00] information off of that. You could go sneak out and grab your parent's driver's license, which is another form of verification that they're allowing, which all you have to do is enter in your driver's license number. And you're verified. Not only is this method unsafe, for reasons we'll get into shortly, but it's not accurate. And that is what P.0.r.N.HU8 is protesting. Not age verification. I just want to be very clear about that, that regardless of whether or not you, agree with P.0.r.N.HU8 fundamentally for what it does. It is my opinion that they're not doing anything malicious by protesting age verification laws. They are pro age verification, anti this method. [00:04:43] HGF: Yeah. And, yeah. this is just not a good barrier to entry. I can totally see minors like in a group chat being like, this is the driver's license number I use. So I think this would lead to a lot more of your data being stolen and [00:05:00] misused by minors to gain access. It just, I'm not extremely familiar with the verification methods that, Texas is wanting to see, but I think it would lead to, more data theft. Of adults to minors. Like if I was still teaching in high schools, I would be so, I don't think I'd bring my ID in the building just because I wouldn't want them to look at it. And I mean, kids, kids will do anything to do what they want to do [00:05:26] offsetkeyz: Of course. Yeah, they know you have a driver's license, you drove to work, they know it's probably in your purse. They know you're walking around the classroom. So like they have if someone wants to find an adult's driver's license this law only encourages crime. It's not put in place to protect the safety of minors, though that's how it's masquerading. It's actually trying to remove P.0.r.N.Ography from the internet, which is a crime. Censorship. Regardless of how you feel about P.0.r.N.Ography, removing [00:06:00] P.0.r.N.Ography from the internet is censorship, and we don't stand for censorship. And if the P.0.r.N.Ography is requiring driver's licenses, the value of driver's licenses has gone up, encouraging crime. [00:06:13] HGF: This is just getting so in the weeds. This is just creating so many, this is opening a can of worms of issues that we are not prepared for, and the creativity it'll take and the different avenues people will get information they need to log in. I don't even think we can conceptualize it yet. So, good on P.0.r.N.HU8 for taking a stand and pulling their site from Texas. They're like, [00:06:35] offsetkeyz: They're [00:06:36] HGF: this is too much. We're not dealing with this. [00:06:38] offsetkeyz: 100 percent and yeah, we don't want an official stance to be that we stand with P.0.r.N.HU8, but we do agree with what they're doing in this avenue. [00:06:47] HGF: Anyone that takes user data seriously, we stand with, yeah, in that instance. [00:06:55] offsetkeyz: If you're going to enable age verification, make sure that it actually [00:07:00] verifies the age of the consumers. So, what P.0.r.N.HU8 is proposing, and what they've been proposing for years and years and years, is what's called device based age verification. Most people, at least in first world countries, like, United States and Canada and Europe and I don't know, have a device that's tied to their identity, whether that be a phone, whether that be an iPad, whether that be a laptop. And imagine if Your iPhone when you turned it on, verified what age you are. You only have to do that once and all that data stayed on your phone. It didn't go to the cloud. Yeah, it stayed on your phone, which you own. But using signatures and verification methods, your iPhone could then communicate just your age, which has been verified to you. to the site saying, Hey, yeah, this person is actually such and such age. And that's all they're, that's all they're going for. They [00:08:00] want to make sure that when age verification is implemented, it's implemented to actually verify the user's age. [00:08:05] HGF: Yeah, I think this is an issue left up to parental controls and just different [00:08:11] offsetkeyz: methods [00:08:12] HGF: methods within the device itself, and it creates a whole host of problems when we have that transferred over to third party identifying platforms. [00:08:24] offsetkeyz: The other main issue with this is that Texas is allowing for third party sites to step in and verify people's age. So, sounds great on the surface, but what it actually is, is you're just giving your data to more sites. There are very reputable sites out there that keep your data, quote, secure. id. me is one that comes to mind. That's to verify your entire identity, and it requires you to enter in a lot of information. your social security number, your driver's license number, credit cards, former addresses, all [00:09:00] kinds of data that is now with some third party site. First of all, P.0.r.N.HU8 users probably don't want their entire identity linked to their P.0.r.N.HU8 account. And nor should it be! It's just videos. It's is your whole identity linked to your YouTube account? Maybe, but should it be? Doesn't matter. I should be able to log onto YouTube and just look at things. That also increases the risk of that data being captured by the wrong people. The more you enter in these sensitive pieces of data across the internet, the risk increases exponentially with every site. And so with giving third parties this power to verify ages, opens up the door for scams. Right? Especially In the nature of the product that P.0.r.N.HU8 offers, there's somewhat of a sense of urgency when consuming it. And now all of a sudden you have to go to this third party site to [00:10:00] verify your age. So maybe you go to Google and you say age verification site, and you type that in. And the first thing that comes up is an ad for an age verification site. that looks good. And so you go to that, it says, yes, compatible with P.0.r.N.HU8. You enter in your social security number. And hey, turns out that was a scam site, but you were moving so quickly that you just went right for it. And you might not even notice that was a scam site. You might just be like, okay, it's not working. Let me try another site. And you might just keep going down the line until one works. You don't want to be haphazardly handling this type of data because it can end very poorly. [00:10:37] HGF: Yeah, people aren't in the frame of mind to be just extremely discerning. [00:10:43] offsetkeyz: Right. I'm trying to think of an example of something else where this might be the case. Like alcohol. [00:10:50] HGF: hungry. Ooh, when you're really hungry. She [00:10:53] offsetkeyz: she resonates with the gong of the Taco Bell. Fourth meal is very prevalent here in our [00:11:00] household. [00:11:00] HGF: If I'm hungry, it's just like, DoorDash, order here, 3 off, da da da da da. I'm just typing in whatever. I'm hungry. Anything your human desire is being driven to act. you're just not taking precautionary steps. [00:11:15] offsetkeyz: Great example so I know certain individuals don't have DoorDash, they've never used DoorDash, and they've always been able to find their food when they need it. But say they run into a situation in a snowstorm, and they have a flat tire, and they go download, or they go to Google and they search for DoorDash and they're trying to get someone to deliver them food and what they get is an ad that is not actually DoorDash. They sign up for an account on this fake site with their address and with their phone number and with their credit card information and all this stuff only to find out that isn't actually, you know, it's that sense of urgency that really dulls your perception of these fake sites. [00:11:58] HGF: that's concerning for [00:12:00] users. But yeah, our caveman brains, the way they're wired, anything that's creating a need and sense of urgency is just, we're gonna overlook things, [00:12:13] offsetkeyz: Alright, so we've touched on a lot of how we feel about this, but I want to take a step back and read a little bit from the Washington Post's reporting on the ruling and on P.0.r.N.HU8's reaction. So this is coming from the Washington Post, likely will be one of the first search results if you even search for any of the search terms. So P.0.r.N.HU8, one of the most popular websites in the world, blocked Texas based access. To its site, one week after the conservative U. S. Court of Appeals of the Fifth Circuit upheld the age verification portion of the state law. So P.0.r.N.HU8 has previously opposed such measures in states like Utah, arguing that age gating laws are ineffective, as we discussed, unfair, and punish the very [00:13:00] users the state wants to protect. For a myriad of reasons, right? And we've touched on a few. But it can harm people in so many different ways. Let's keep reading. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called the decision a victory over P.0.r.N. Companies and denied the state's law violates free speech laws, but free expression advocates, including those in the adult content industry, Warned that laws like the one in Texas are being weaponized to censor a variety of content, including reproductive rights, resources, and queer literature. [00:13:33] HGF: That's what I was saying. [00:13:35] offsetkeyz: It is reminding me a little bit of what's going on with TikTok as well. The fact that we can ban a content streaming platform because it's owners are from a different country is crazy. And hey, actually turns out we can't ban a content platform. We literally cannot do that. All we can do is place laws on other areas around it. So the [00:14:00] same tactics are being taken with age verification in Texas as they are with TikTok across the country, as they are with Things like abortion, like, hey, we might be able, might not be able to ban abortion, but we can find the crap out of doctors who perform it. [00:14:15] HGF: Yeah. Overarching, all of those have themes of some sort of censorship. In June, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law HB1181, a bipartisan bill requiring companies that offer sexual material harmful to minors verify that its users are at least 18 years old. Companies that need to limit minors access, such as websites for liquor brands, commonly use age gating methods such as requiring a user to list their birthday. Texas's law required users to prove their age by either entering information from a government issued ID or using a third party system that uses public and private data such as employment, education, or mortgage information to verify age. [00:14:56] offsetkeyz: [00:15:00] of data that people can use to verify their age. They can use anything, any document laying around their parent's house to verify their age. Cool, very effective guys. [00:15:13] HGF: This is also, this might be getting too into the weeds and not as cyber security related, but I'm just curious. I need to look at this more. How many studies do we have showing that it causes irreparable harm to people's psyche? Like it says that right here, it says, HB 1181 also required P.0.r.N. Sites to display a controversial health warning, which the law's opponents called pseudoscientific and included language like Texas Health and Human Services Warning. P.0.r.N.Ography increases the demand for prostitution, child exploitation, and child P. It says that in the warning. Do we have the data to back that up? That it's a gateway to other illicit sexual consumption? Jen? [00:15:55] offsetkeyz: skeptical [00:15:55] HGF: I'm a little bit skeptical that we have data that P.0.r.N.Ography increases [00:16:00] the demand for child p. pornography. more you work with data, the more you realize that you can make this type of data look however you want it to look, but when it comes down to it, P.0.r.N.Ography is adjacent to child [00:16:13] offsetkeyz: p sexual crimes, and sexual crimes are adjacent. You know, Child p is a subset of P.0.r.N.Ography and without P.0.r.N.Ography, there's no demand for child p. It reminds me of a joke. I'm trying to remember who said it. But the joke is, I think it's Scrubs. Oh boy, [00:16:37] HGF: Oh [00:16:37] offsetkeyz: I'm back on scrubs Dr. Cox is talking about how They're trying to ban P.0.r.N.Ography from the web, and if they do ban P.0.r.N.Ography, there will only be one website left, and it will be called Bring Back the P.0.r.N.Ography. Regardless of whether or not we ban P.0.r.N.Ography, there's gonna be a demand for it. [00:16:57] HGF: Yeah. I bet you could skew [00:17:00] data to say that without it there's increased violence toward women. [00:17:04] offsetkeyz: Mm hmm. [00:17:06] HGF: hmm. Like, the repression creates more issues. I just think that you can skew data any way you like. I'm very skeptical that there's a verified study that Consuming content on P.0.r.N.HU8 increases demand for child p. pornography. [00:17:23] offsetkeyz: Mm hmm. [00:17:23] HGF: That's wild. That, the [00:17:25] offsetkeyz: they surveying? [00:17:26] HGF: the state is just publishing that. It's not citing, in the warning, it's not citing any specific clinical trials or studies. I just feel like we're, the age of the internet, we have access to a lot. We have access to a lot of information and articles. And it's hard to be discerning what's true or what's not, and that's why we really need to rely on peer reviewed, verified, studied information. [00:17:55] offsetkeyz: We do. Our little lizard brains are likely to believe whatever we [00:18:00] hear. And so we're going to do our part on this podcast and drop a lot of links in the show notes below, and we really encourage you to go in and read them for yourselves, not just believe what we're saying on this podcast. If you keep reading Hot Girl Farmer, you will see that the court, the Fifth Circuit, uh, of appeals denied the health label. So, So they sided with requiring age verification, but they did deny forcing adult websites to have this health label on them. Thank goodness, probably for the reasons that you mentioned, but we will verify that in the show notes as well. [00:18:39] HGF: Okay. Well, that's good. [00:18:40] offsetkeyz: I wonder, I You can spin anything, any way you want. There was another comedian that I watched the other day because of daylight savings time. [00:18:52] HGF: Yikes! Yeah, it's been kicking my ass. [00:18:54] offsetkeyz: Where, It's all about how you spin it, right? If the government came on and they're like, Hey, you're going to actually have to be at work an [00:19:00] hour earlier tomorrow, and you're going to have to wake up an hour earlier. It's going to be dark, and it's going to be light when you try to go to bed, like all these things. Everyone would be like, no, but instead the government's just like, Hey, you know what? Just once a year, we think it'd be cute if we just set our clocks back an hour. Everyone's like, I guess. Yeah, sounds great. So the attorney general is saying. This is a victory, but imagine if P.0.r.N.HU8 had an office in San Antonio, the capital of Texas, that employed 100, 000 people. Imagine that! Now all those people are out of a job! Is that a victory? You're, yeah. You're actually shutting down jobs for one of the top websites on the internet. Like Facebook is up there, Google's up there, and P.0.r.N.HU8 is up there, and you are shutting down jobs. Doesn't sound like a victory to me, governor. [00:19:55] HGF: Yeah, it just is from what angle is this a victory? With the ease of use of VPNs, [00:20:00] I, most people know how to use them and get around this age verification anyway. So I would say people that, that want to go on the site can still go on the site. You have to be like 2 percent tech savvy to use the VPN. And then I still think it's going to encourage minors to commit data theft. And so I wouldn't really call this a victory, , if you're against. this site. [00:20:24] offsetkeyz: Yeah, instead maybe work with them. They have really good ideas and they have a lot of resources to implement those ideas. They have a lot of money, and so if P.0.r.N.HU8 is willing to work with the state of Texas to develop state of the art proprietary age verification methods, why not do that? You're like actually saying no to innovation. Where you could have maybe a patent tied to your name that helps keep P.0.r.N. Out, like actually helps keep P.0.r.N. Out of the eyes of minors, but instead you're just encouraging lying, cheating, and stealing new dark [00:21:00] markets to pop up so maybe think about that. [00:21:02] HGF: This is a weird haphazard band aid that just creates more problems. This is not the solution that they're looking for. And again, no one wants miners to consume this. And I just, we really think that age verification on the device itself is secure and a good way to go. [00:21:21] offsetkeyz: Absolutely, and P.0.r.N.HU8 does not disagree either. [00:21:36] offsetkeyz: So we've covered a lot. Of our thoughts and our feelings, as well as what's actually happening in the state of Texas and with the state of P.0.r.N.HU8 and censorship and data laws. And just to recap, I want to go over what happened again timeline wise, but there was one more point that the Washington Post article makes, [00:22:00] and that is that P.0.r.N.HU8 is potentially the most reputable of sites to consume adult content. They take the privacy of not only the creators, but the users very seriously. They take complaints very seriously. They're not, they're filtering out their content so that nothing illegal is on there. They're doing a lot of good things. They're making sure that when you watch these videos, there's no way for bad actors to embed malware. They have firewalls. They have anti malware. Like I said, they have all these protections because they're the most reputable of sites. So now these measures have caused P.0.r.N.HU8 to take their services off. Offline in Texas, but what are people who are seeking adult content going to do from there? They're going to go look for other websites that maybe aren't as reputable. Maybe have more sketchy content because it's not being filtered like child p or a [00:23:00] list of other kinds of things and might be laden with malware or downloadable whatever. Like if you click on a link in one of these sites maybe it redirects quickly to something and you're infected. Making these requirements are only fiscally achievable by companies that have the resources to achieve them. Like the age verification is what I'm talking about here. P.0.r.N.HU8, I don't know any other reputable sites, but they would all have the means to implement these things. So, people who are blocked by age verification will now start going to sites that don't have the means to implement age verification. And those sites are much more likely to have malware and lurkers and inappropriate content. So thanks to the Washington Post, they, I mean, they didn't bring up all that, but they brought up a little bit of it. So thanks for bringing up that point. There's just, where's the good? [00:23:55] HGF: Yeah. [00:23:56] offsetkeyz: All I see is bad. [00:23:57] HGF: We get what they're going for, but [00:24:00] this is just not achieving that at all, unfortunately. [00:24:02] offsetkeyz: And it's actually a step in the wrong direction. So any of my Texas people who back this bill, you might think it's a step in the right direction, even if it's not solving all the problems, it's actually a step in the wrong direction due to all the reasons listed in this episode, is a step backwards. So you're actually shooting yourself in the foot. So just to recap, in June, Texas passed a law requiring any website that displays adult content to be disabled. Verify the consumer's age using pretty in depth methods, not just enter in your birthday like they do on liquor sites. A bunch of people, P.0.r.N.HU8 one of them, sues the state of Texas over censorship laws. Just last week, the courts in Texas sided with the state of Texas and P.0.r.N.HU8, in reaction to this ruling, pulled their services from the state of Texas. You can no longer access the website P.0.r.N.HU8 in the state of Texas. P.0.r.N.HU8 is pro age verification. They are very for [00:25:00] it, but they want it to actually verify age and not just attempt to censor content. And we think that the state of Texas, the government of the United States, should work with companies like this to implement effective age verification using any method. This is where creativity comes into play. We need to find a method that will effectively verify users age, not just verify that they have access to documents that verify somebody's age. And they need to work together to make sure That's what's implemented. Not taking these half assed, band aid approaches that actually hurt the people they're trying to protect. [00:25:39] HGF: Yeah, thank you guys for tuning in with us to discuss this pretty controversial, really interesting topic. This is really interesting to us. There's a lot of nuance in here. There's a lot of gray area, which is something that I enjoy to discuss. And so thanks for sticking with us, keeping an open mind, and just, we're just trying to focus on the [00:26:00] facts, the law, what's going on, and keeping you guys up to date with cyber news. And this one just came up and feels pretty pressing to discuss. [00:26:08] offsetkeyz: There's definitely some other things in the news that we're going to touch on tomorrow, but yeah, thank you for giving us the opportunity to talk about this. We threw a lot at you and that is just to get thinking about reasons this bill might be good or this bill might be bad. Whatever, you are entitled to making your own opinion. Again, we encourage you to check out the resources we're providing in the show notes and to think for yourself. Thanks so much for listening to the Daily Decrypt. Thanks for Hot Girl Farmer for being here on this, and we will talk to you some more tomorrow. [00:26:36] HGF: See you guys. [00:27:00] [00:28:00]

This is the final episode of 2023 and I'm joined by Jo Mountney, who has spent the entirety of her career so far within hospitality and tourism, working for the largest theme park in the UK for 20 years.Jo initially began in operations before moving into L&D and then ultimately HR. She believes that her background in operations has been one of the most useful aspects for her career, as it has enabled her to understand the position of her stakeholders better. It becomes apparent that Jo has put herself into situations that have been way outside her comfort zone. From studying in France for four months, where all lectures were delivered in French, to making the move firstly into L&D and then into HR. However, she recognises that one of the ways we grow best and develop is by stretching ourselves in such a way.... and it's a concept she's taken into managing teams but as an enabler for her own teams to grow and develop too.Behind all of this, Jo is naturally someone who lacks confidence in herself. It was others who pushed her to apply for roles (that she never thought she'd have a chance of securing) but it was her ability to solve problems, have the vision, and lead that helped her. Overarching it all is that Jo places people at the centre of everything she does and driving every decision she makes. We manage to squeeze quite a lot of different topics into this episode (a Christmas cracker, you could say!) and I hope you enjoy listening.Support the show
This post summarizes how my partner and I decided whether to have children or not. We spent hundreds of hours on this decision and hope to save others part of that time. We found it very useful to read the thoughts of people who share significant parts of our values on the topic and thus want to "pay it forward" by writing this up. In the end, we decided to have children; our son is four months old now and we're very happy with how we made the decision and with how our lives are now (through a combination of sheer luck and good planning). It was a very narrow and very tough decision though. Both of us care a lot about having a positive impact on the world and our jobs are the main way we expect to have an impact (through direct work and/or earning to give). PGA Tour's Nonprofit Status Complicated By LIV Merger Concerns have been raised regarding the future of the nonprofit PGA Tour following its proposed merger with for-profit LIV Golf, supported by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, as reported by The Nonprofit Times and The Washington Post. Despite its intentions to maintain its nonprofit status, this proposed merger has led to an inquiry from the U.S. Senate into potential indirect benefits for a foreign government from U.S. tax provisions designed for nonprofits. H.R. 3908, or the No Corporate Tax Exemption for Professional Sports Act, was introduced by Rep. The three pillars of regenerative farming are soil health, animal welfare, and social wellness. This podcast brings together interviews with two farmers who are exploring regenerative agriculture practices: Caine Thompson, Managing Director at Robert Hall Winery and Sustainability Lead at O'Neill Vintners and Distillers plus Clint Nelson, Director of Vineyard Operations and Grower Relations at Bonterra Organic Estates. Caine and Clint explore the challenges and benefits of going nearly no-till from under vine weed cultivation to using rubber skids to reduce compaction to improve soil health. They also share the many benefits of our favorite living lawnmowers, sheep. Not only do these animals aid with weed management and fertilization, but they are also critical to fire suppression. Listen in to hear both their experienced farmer's advice on how to bring more regenerative practices into your operation. And we're gonna talk about regenerative organic agriculture today, and the certificate, the rock, the ROC. Thanks for being on the show, Clint. Clint Nelson 0:12 Hey, Greg, happy to be here. Looking forward to talking some organics with you. Caine Thompson 0:16 Here with me today is Caine Thompson. He is managing director Robert Hall Winery and sustainability lead. With O'Neill, vintners and distillers. Welcome to the podcast. Caine. Thank you. Great to be here. Let's just start with some basics. What is regenerative organic agriculture? Clint Nelson 0:33 Great question. I would say it's very similar to our traditional CCOF certificate or the organic certificate that we we now consider our stay. But the one of the biggest differences between going from traditional organics to regenerative organics is a few changes in animal welfare. So we're looking out for the animals that were hurding and grazing on our vineyards. And that's one of the pillars in the certificate. In addition to that, there's a social equity component, where we're looking at the well being of not just our internal employees and how they're treated and making sure that they have fair compensation for the work and also a nice work life balance, but also the region as a whole or the community as a whole, I should say and how our farming operations are impacting the area that we work with. That's really the additions to this certificate program compared to CCOF from a pillar aspect like something that's new, different. When you look at the farming side of this certificate program compared to traditional organic certificates, the biggest change or one of the most drastic changes depending on your farming techniques, is going from tillage to non till and looking at soil health, and doing infield soil tests to check the porosity or the drainage or the organic matter and things like that. And so that can be a challenge for a lot of traditional farmers that are used to tilling either every row or every other row for weed management or irrigation, conservation and their ideas. But for us, it's something that we've we've taken on and we're excited about what we're seeing anecdotally increases and things like organic matter and overall soil health. And also reduction in cover cropping. You know, once you go from tilling to non till your seed can start to reseed itself. And so you have less passes and your cover crop applications and, and all kinds of neat benefits that we're happy to take advantage of. Craig Macmillan 0:35 So no till I talked to people all the time about this is a very important topic. And when I talk to the scientists, they're like, man, do not till your setting to set the system back to zero, you're feeding microbes that are there, and then they die because there's so much oxygen, etc, you're losing your carbon, because they're consuming it, all that kind of stuff. And so then I talked to growers that are, you know, believe in this. And then like, yeah, we're no till. And then we have a conversation. And I say, how do you handle things like squirrel burrows and gopher holes and things that are uneven because it's hard on the tractors and the drivers, and they say, Oh, we do it again, every five years, we'll till it again and replant every five years, or whenever we kind of need to do it. Now for you folks, it sounds like you're making a pretty intense commitment to the long term. When you think no till are you thinking like forever and a day or are there times when you might reset the system? And if so, how are you going to do it? Clint Nelson 3:28 Yeah, I think for looking at this strictly from our certificate perspective, there are times when you're allowed to go back in and do quote unquote, maintenance of your soils. And for me, my biggest concern from transitioning from tilling to not is compaction, you know, compaction can start to limit your ability for water infiltration. And then your roots start to suffer and find declines sets in. We haven't seen that yet and my experience in management and directing the vineyard operations. I've rarely seen compaction be an issue. And so we're not doing maintenance tilling to alleviate compaction. One of the keys to that though, is we're transitioning a lot of our wheeled tractors, to rubber skids are rubber tracks, and so we're alleviating the pressure within the vineyard. And in addition to that, we just avoid all operations when the soils are moist or wet because you can get major running and things along those lines which then necessitate a grading pass just to make it smooth for tractor operations. Once again, if it's wet and rainy, we stay out of it. One added benefit. Craig, you might find of interest. This past season, we've had a lot of flooding up here in Mendocino with the rains, we had something almost like 30 inches within six week period and the rest of the river came up and over to some of the vineyard properties which is normal in a wet year. But being that we are non till we were actually able to get tractor operations back into the vineyards much earlier than anybody else that had been tilling prior to the rain events, because we had that soil integrity and also vegetative biomass there holding the soils together. And so we were out there pruning and flailing without creating any ruts or divots much earlier than anybody else around us. Caine Thompson 5:19 So when I talked about no till many of them say, oh, yeah, this is a no till system. And then later on, they say, well, every 5, 6, 7, 8 years, we do go in and reset it, get it nice and clean and flat. And then we resed and we go from there, that our time horizon, that you would expect that you may actually go in and till again and reset the system. Either they're sustainable, or ROA system? There could be. And there's a number of documented studies that have shown that the occasional use of tilling is required and the framework within ROA doesn't necessarily eliminate tillage it does at the Gold level. If you're like a Gold Certified regenerative farm, you've got to be 0 0 till there is the ability to till and divine row for weed control for certain practices in the ROA guidelines, you can still till there's different percentages of areas that you can till based on bronze, silver gold areas, when we do or need to teill, again, we wouldn't in the mid row, we wouldn't do every row would likely do every other row when we need it. So we'll use it as a as a selective tool, kind of like in sustainable conventional systems where there's a patch of weeds where you're not spraying the whole vineyard, but you've targeted application of herbicide to tackle a particular patch of weeds. Same with them the regenerative system and can see the use of selective tilling as a tool to control weeds in particular areas or an area of compaction that you need to work. And so the frameworks great in regards to working with growers for what is needed for their specific vineyards, while having a plan to minimize tillage in the long term. As with a lot of things, you have a tool and may say, Well, I could reduce the use of this tool in a knowledgeable way. But it doesn't mean I'm gonna throw it away. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna say never. And it's interesting that you still have it in the toolbox. That's interesting. Overarching, with tillage, we would love to just not till it all intelligence, time consuming, it's expensive, makes difficult for gear equipment to go back on the Vinyard. When we get them, the winds and paths are you can see that erosion happening. When you till you're like putting a plow chisel through the vineyard of these ecosystems that's just kind of destroying what's what's there. So it's, we're not wanting to use it, we're wanting to build and regenerate soil that having it as a tool, if we need it at some point, it's beneficial. What about inro weed control using a weed knife or flame or steam or something like that? Clint Nelson 8:03 All the above. It really depends on the weed species. You know, we have some areas where I have Bermuda grass, it is almost impossible to tame. And sometimes it necessitates a hand pass, but when it's just your traditional mares tail or thistle or what have you, we like to run under vine cutivators. So to say that we're, we're not 100% non till because we're tilling underneath that find spaces for weed management. We're about say anywhere between 80 to 90% non till and we also like to till right under the vine because of a lot of our fertilizers have transitioned away from fertigation and we're actually banding pellets out there. Caine Thompson 8:45 Oh really? Clint Nelson 8:46 Yeah, yeah, it's been quite effective actually. And we're getting a cost effective boost in our nitrogen phosphorus and potassium compared to organic drip fertilizers which can be somewhat costly with very low horsepower behind them you know your NPK is pretty low on this organic injectable fertilizers. But when we can go after we banned on and this is a banding application after we ban on those pellets, we can incorporate them a little bit quicker by running our under vine so we get a two for one pass. We get weed management and also quicker incorporation of fertilizer pellets. Caine Thompson 9:22 What about weed control? You mentioned on the swings abandoned herbicides in the sustainable area. How do you manage weeds in the ROA section? In any type of conversion, whether it's to organics biodynamics regenerative farming, it seems to be we've controls one of the largest barriers to entry and how to do that in an economical way. And so, the main way we're controlling weeds under vine and the regenerative side is under vine cultivation just within the vine row. So just under vines, in the wintertime we have what's called like mounting up so we're turning this Soil just inside the vine row on top of uer vine row. And then that starts to break down through the season. And then we use a Clemens blade just with a little sensor arm to undercut the vines. What's your stocking density like? Clint Nelson 10:17 It's about 20, head of sheep per acre. And we keep them in a region or zone set of blocks for about a week. And then after that, we'll we'll move them on to another region of the vineyard. And they'll stay there for about a week. And so we do this rotation through all our vineyard blocks, Caine Thompson 10:35 Five to seven days. Okay, well, that's good. So are you doing the shepherding in house? Clint Nelson 10:40 Unfortunately, or fortunately, we don't have the bandwidth for that. And that I'll be the first to admit I'm not a experienced sheep herder. And so there's quite a lot of work that goes into it. We have a very close relationship with a sheep herder up here that we've been working with since the dawn of us bringing sheep and they get to take care of that for us. Caine Thompson 10:59 And you're letting them go. But like December to March, something like that? Clint Nelson 11:02 More like mid January to just before budbreak. So like the end of March. Yeah, your timeline is pretty close. Caine Thompson 11:09 And again, obviously, there's no incorporation of any of this. So it's getting in there on its own, which it'd be nature to lay anyway. Right? Clint Nelson 11:15 You'd be surprised about the incorporation aspect. Yeah, the sheep are really good about incorporating all the sheep. You'll see hoofprints throughout the entire vineyard. Caine Thompson 11:23 Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I'm glad you mentioned that, because that's where I was gonna. Yeah, see you next, are there any other animals in the system? Clint Nelson 11:31 We actually internally have a couple cattle, just a few. And that's more for our biodynamic reparations. So we keep them around for the compost and manure horns. But they also graze, not so much in the vineyard. We keep them adjacent in the vineyards to help with fire suppression. So they keep the weeds down for us. Craig Macmillan 11:49 Very, very cool. Clint Nelson 11:50 And actually, as we transition into budbreak, and we start to move the sheep out, we start to put them in the wild lands around the vineyards as well, that will fire suppression. Caine Thompson 11:58 Oh, okay. So how long total? Are they on the property? Clint Nelson 12:02 About six months. Caine Thompson 12:03 Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah, that's a long time. Clint Nelson 12:05 Well, we we have quite a lot of acres that aren't vineyards here. So fire suppression is critical as the you know, California likes to burn. So we tried to do our part to keep it down. Caine Thompson 12:15 Yeah, I know, a vineyard winery that everybody focuses on the fact that they have the sheep they talk about in the vineyard, and then the shepherd is part of the meeting. And he's like, Yeah, but this is probably the biggest benefit to us is the little fire suppression. They're doing that for the rest of the year. And I was like, gosh, that's really cool. That's really smart. Clint Nelson 12:31 Exactly. I was gonna say taking this another higher level from a viewpoint. It can help with your insurance deductibles, too, if you can prove that you have sheep out there grazing and and removing the fire fuel pressures. Yeah. Caine Thompson 12:45 You mentioned the welfare of the sheep, are there in particular things that you do, or the shepherds do that are focused on animal welfare? Clint Nelson 12:54 Yeah, I think it comes down to auditing their practices and making sure that they're humanely treated and not overgrazed, like too many sheep in one area or anything like that. And they're, they're well fed and just taken care of properly, there's actually a whole list online of the things that we need. Caine Thompson 13:11 Now let's transition over to animals, because animals is a big part of the ROA. And they're gaining popularity, but I'm curious about how you folks use animals for animals to use. Yeah, so I'm originally from New Zealand. So I've a long history with sheep and using sheep within vineyards. And I just love them as a tool for incorporating into the vineyard system and they bring it just another level of energy into the property number one. Number two, they come in like these living lawnmowers that move with between your vines between your rows, they are consuming grass, that weeds, leaf falling off the vine, and they're consuming all of that and then you're gonna manures going back into the system, their hooves are also spreading their weight across across the ground as well. So there's a bit of aeration that the helping provide as well comparatively to large tractors that are giving us the compaction in the mid row as well. Really, that nutrient recycling is really valuable and the weed control it's a great way to you talked about it earlier, resetting weed control at the tail end of the season, bringing the sheep in to really chew down all of the weeds and grass within the system to back to like a base level at the start of the next season. It makes it easier to go in and start your under vine tillage program. So we're using sheep early season, our fruiting wire within the vineyard with a trial setup is set pretty, pretty high. And so the sheep can easily walk underneath the vine rows. And that allows us even even maneuverability of them through the vineyard. And so we find we get good control of weeds with them. It also allows us to extend the use of sheep within the vineyard and both ends of the season because the fruiting wire is way above the heads. So there's no risk of chewing off little young shoots in the early spring. Craig Macmillan 15:16 So this is post budbreak? Caine Thompson 15:18 Yeah, so we're putting them in post pruning through to post budbreak, we have noticed that if you leave them too long, and there's not enough grass, they will start trying to climb up the canopy in into the veins. And so there is a limit to how long you can leave them. And then you've got to ensure that there's not too many animals per acre grazing, otherwise, you're going to strip out the food system, and then they're going to be forced to go up into the canopy, which you don't want. Craig Macmillan 15:50 And you said, there's two times the second one in the fall like after harvest? Caine Thompson 15:54 Yeah, as soon as the fruits of the sheep come back in, and we really like that as a way of again, cleaning up the understory, then all these leaves from the canopy falling down into the vineayrd floor. And so the sheep are consuming them turning them into nutrients and and putting it back into the soil versus that leaf just usually blowing away somewhere else. Yeah, just running down eventually, by by itself, that's just a faster way of getting nutrient recycling happening and back into the soil. So they're a great tool, there's a local shepherd that we're using that brings in sheep for us, we haven't got our own herd at the moment. Craig Macmillan 16:35 Is there one piece of advice that are one thing you would tell growers on this topic that you really encourage them to do or encourage them to think about? Clint Nelson 16:43 I would say when it comes to regenerative organic farming, don't be scared of going non till it's not the boogeyman in the closet by any means. I've been doing it successfully for over six years hands on direct management, and haven't had any issues. And in fact, we're seeing great benefits and duction, one of our blocks this past year had a record setting crop being on non-till system. And then in addition to that, we're seeing these jumps in organic matter and, and the ability to get in in farm earlier than other people. I would say there's a reason where we made this jump. We're excited about it. And I hope that I can kind of spread the word for everybody out there and get more people are excited about. Craig Macmillan 17:25 Is there one thing that you would tell grower related to this topic that might help them what message do you want to have somebody take away? Caine Thompson 17:33 I would say just make a start on even if it's a few rows and remove herbicides, number one, and look at alternatives for your agrichemical program. Sulfur has been used for powdery mildew control for hundreds of years, it's very, very effective. And look at the tools that can replace slowly some of the products that you might not want to use around your farm and around your household data, more organic solutions and get your learnings yourself. You don't need to do your whole vineyard right out of the gate. But just start small and get the learnings and if there's a desire you, you learn pretty quick and then expand from that. Craig Macmillan 18:17 That is a great message and one that I encourage everybody to hear. Try things out. You don't have to put everything on 17 Black, try a little bit, see how it goes. And that's a great way to control cause and the other thing is site specific. Right? That's always the thing. Well, it's all site specific. Well, yeah, it is all site specific. And therefore you need to try it on your site. Caine Thompson 18:37 Yeah, we started trailers of 48 acre trail. And after year, two, now, we've expanded into 130 acres, but we got the learnings over a two year period to give us the confidence to expand into the rest of the estate. Clint Nelson 18:53 One more thing I used to work in in research and outreach. And this was back in time when I help with best practices on irrigation techniques, or best practices in pruning management, things like that. And when talking with growers, I would just say ask yourself, you know why? Why why are we tilling? Or why are we doing XYZ farming practice? Is it because our predecessors or grandfathers and fathers were doing it? Or is it because there's a scientific base reason? And I think once you start to ask the why you can start to uncover a lot of information about your farming operations internally, increase efficiencies and have better deliverables just by asking why. AI came to Washington in a big way. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman appeared before Congress for his first-ever testimony, speaking at a hearing called by Senators Richard Blumenthal and Josh Hawley. The topic? How to oversee and establish safeguards for artificial intelligence. The hearing lasted nearly three hours and focused largely on Altman, though Christina Montgomery, an IBM executive, and Gary Marcus, a leading AI expert, academic, and entrepreneur, also testified. During the hearing, Altman covered a wide range of topics, including a discussion of different risks posed by generative AI, what should be done to address those risks, and how companies should develop AI technology. Altman even suggested that AI companies be regulated, possibly through the creation of one or more federal agencies and/or some type of licensing requirement. The hearing was divisive. Some experts applauded what they saw as much-needed urgency from the federal government to tackle important AI safety issues. Others criticized the hearing for being far too friendly, citing worries that companies like OpenAI are angling to have undue influence over the regulatory and legislative process. An important note: This hearing appeared to be informational in nature. It was not called because OpenAI is in trouble. And it appears to be the first of many such hearings and committee meetings on AI that will happen moving forward. In this episode, Paul and Mike tackled the hearing from three different angles as our three main topics today, as well as talked about a series of lower-profile government meetings that occurred. First, they do a deep dive into what happened, what was discussed, and what it means for marketers and business leaders. Then they took a closer look at the biggest issues in AI safety that were discussed during the hearing and that the hearing is designed to address. At one point during the hearing, Altman said "My worst fear is we cause significant harm to the world.” Lawmakers and the AI experts at the hearing cited several AI safety risks they're losing sleep over. Overarching concerns included election misinformation, job disruption, copyright and licensing, generally harmful or dangerous content, and the pace of change. Finally, Paul and Mike talked through the regulatory measures proposed during the hearing and what dangers there are, if any, of OpenAI or other AI companies tilting the regulatory process in their favor. Some tough questions were raised in the process. Senate Judiciary Chair Senator Dick Durbin suggested the need for a new agency to oversee the development of AI, and possibly an international agency. Gary Marcus said there should be a safety review, similar to what is used with the FDA for drugs, to vet AI systems before they are deployed widely, advocating for what he called a “nimble monitoring agency.” On the subject of agencies, Senator Blumenthal cautioned that the agency or agencies must be well-resourced, with both money and the appropriate experts. Without those, he said, AI companies would “run circles around us.” As expected, this discussion wasn't without controversy. Tune in to this critically important episode of The Marketing AI Show. In this explosive episode, we dive deep into the craziest string of events that we have witnessed in our lifetime. From the shocking train derailment in Ohio that caused a radioactive mushroom cloud, to the two other derailments in Texas and North Carolina carrying toxic chemicals that the media is barely covering. But that's not all. We also explore the four unidentified flying objects that have been shot down by the Biden administration, including one that was over Lake Michigan and evaded the first missile strike. Is this the government hiding the truth about extraterrestrial life, or is there something else going on here? We also examine the recent discussions surrounding Epstein's list being released, as well as other topics that have been hidden from the public eye. The coincidence between a movie that was recently released and the Ohio train derailment raises many questions and fuels conspiracy theories. We bring you the facts and let you decide. Hello and welcome to Red Pill Revolution. My name is Austin Adams and thank you so much for listening today. This is a wild time to be alive, and we're gonna find out, uh, just how wild today as we are going over some of the craziest string of events that I've ever been. Witness to in my entire life. And I'm sure at least majority of the people here, unless you were alive, maybe during, I don't know, the forties. Uh, this is so crazy. So we're gonna jump right into it. Today, we are going to be discussing the recent string of events, everything from the train derailment in Ohio, causing almost nuclear type of radioactive waste, a huge mushroom crowd cloud, basically. This city in Ohio due to this train derailment, which has gotten basically no coverage, very little if not any coverage at all from the mainstream media as to actually how bad this truly is. It's, it's, when you see the pictures of this, it's horrifying. On the back of that, today, there was two other trains that were derailed. One in Texas and one in, I believe, North Carolina, one of those also carrying. Toxic chemicals. Hmm. Now we are also going to follow that up with four different unidentified flying objects, which have been shot down in the last week alone by the Biden administration in the United States military, including one of the time over Lake Michigan, in which the very first missile strike actually missed. Which makes things a little bit more interesting because I don't think , I don't think China's balloon had the capabilities to do that, so that makes it that much more interesting. The White House responding specifically to the questions surrounding is this aliens, which we will look at the White House pl uh, press Secretary responding to. Then we are going to touch on the recent. Uh, discussions surrounding Epstein's List being released, as well as a few other things. So make sure you stick around. Today's gonna be a crazy episode. We are also going to look into a pretty unbelievable, well, it would seem unbelievable if you didn't actually listen to it with me, but this coincidence, coincidence between a movie that was released and the recent train derail. Yeah, that's all I'm gonna say for now. But it's a crazy, crazy coincidence, which is fueling many, many conspiracy theories surrounding all of this. So all of that and more. So, um, I appreciate you guys so much. Without further ado, let's jump into it. Welcome to Red Pill Revolution. My name is Austin Adams. Red Pill Revolution started out with me, realizing everything that I knew, everything that I believed, everything I interpreted about my life is through the lens of the information I was spoonfed as a child. Religion, politics, history, conspiracies, Hollywood medicine, money, food, all of it. Everything we know was tactfully written to influence your decisions and your view on reality by those in power. Now I'm on a mission, a mission to retrain and reeducate myself to find the true reality of what is behind that curtain. And I'm taking your ass with me. Welcome to the Revolution. All right. The very first thing we are going to jump into today is the Ohio train derailment, which is resulting in lawsuits, dead animals, like schools of fish being floating down the river dead as a result of all of the toxic chemicals that have been released. From this train derailment, and again, there's very, very little media coverage, if any at all actually happening here. And when you look at these pictures, I cannot fathom living in this town. I, I cannot believe they have not completely told everybody to leave. It's, it's horrific to actually look at it. It looks like a nuclear event when you, the, the whole sky has turned black around this city. There's a huge, like almost mushroom cloud that came up as a result of this. And so let's, let's go ahead and read this article. We'll talk about some of the things that are going on here and see if we can tie some of them together, because it gets quite interesting. All right. Now this article is coming from Yahoo. And it starts by saying that the tr, the Ohio train derailment results in lawsuits, dead animals, and lingering questions about toxic chemicals. And this was written on February 13th. All right. It says, the follow continues from the derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals near the Ohio Pennsylvania border earlier this month as local residents file lawsuits and some cast out in official assurances about air and water quality. Now, as a side note, this Ohio River that this happened around. Fund, like basically gives 10% of the United States their drinking water. So an obvious concern for many, many people in the Midwest area. This says on February 3rd, 50 train cars operated by Norfolk Southern, uh, southern derailed in the East, pales Palestine, Ohio. A town of about 5,000 people located 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Now, keep that in mind as we go on in this episode, that there's only 5,000 people in this. Only 5,000 people. It's not a very big town. That Derailment. Derailment resulted the name massive fire in government, Mike DeWine ordering an evacuation. So it has been evacuated since February 5th. Within the last two hours, a drastic temperature change has taken place in a rail car, and there is now the potential of a catastrophic tanker failure, which could cause an explosion with a potential of deadly shrapnel traveling up to a. DeWine said in the statement, adding that those with children in their home who choose not to evacuate would be subject to arrest. Whoa. Last month, a Norfolk Southern released toxic chemicals from five of the derailed tanker cars. In an attempt to preempt a larger explosion, one of the chemicals they were most concerned about was vinyl chloride. A colorless gas used to. Plastic products according to the National Cancer Institute, exposure to the gas is associated with an increased risk of rare form of liver cancer, as well as primary liver cancer, brain and lung cancers, lymphoma and leukemia. Wow. And that is what they're making plastic. Products with, Hmm. Maybe not something that we should be ingesting in the first place. Um, but obviously even more concerning if it's just leaking into the air around you. Concurrent with the releasing of the chemicals, DeWine and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a wider evacuation order for the area around East PA Palestine stating the controlled release process involves the burning of real car chemicals, which will release fumes into the air. That can be deadly if. Based on current weather patterns, the expected flow of the smoke fumes, anyone who remains in the red, effective areas facing grave, danger of death, anyone who remains in the yellow impacted areas at the high risk of severe injury, including skin burns and serious lung cancer or lung damage. Two days later, DeWine issued a statement that it was safe for residents to return home saying, yeah, no thanks. Air quality samples in the area of the wreck and the nearby residential neighborhoods have consistently showed readings at it points below, safety screening levels for contaminants of concern. Based on this information, state and local health officials determined that it is now safe for the community members to return to the residents. Now, this is a decently long article, um, but we get the gist of. Right. That's horrific, right? Horrific. 5,000 people in this town and how many in the surrounding areas that are having to leave because of a controlled release of these chemicals, these toxic, toxic chemicals, which according to them, if you're even around that area, will kill you. And if you're close to the area around that area, you might just die slowly. and very, very little news coverage. And again, if you look at the pictures of what is out there and what this looks. I, I would never want to go back to that home of mine again. I can't imagine bringing my children into that house after all of those toxic chemicals in the air. You think they're just gone. You think they didn't just settle like people are relating this to trenoble levels of nuclear waste is what they're relating this amount of chemicals to in this town of Palestine. So what makes this even more interest? Is that today, February 13th, there was two more trained derailments, two more trained derailments, one in Texas and one in South Carolina, one of those trained derailments carrying hazardous materials. So this as a train has derailed in the Houston area. This comes from citizen free press official reports. The train was carrying hazardous materials, prompting union specific to monitor air quality in the site crash according to Splendora Police Department. What are the odds? Now? It says hours later, a train derailed and then enroll. In or in Orrie, in Orrie, South Carolina on Monday with no reported fatalities. And CSX Transportation, which owns derailment is a site along the emergency cruise. Now, one thing I'd like to go back on in the original thing, um, the original derailment was that it was the result, if I'm not mistaken here, maybe it was one of these other ones, but one of them was the result of a semi. Okay. A semi-truck ran into one of them. Let me double check on that. But let me see here if semi-truck, and let's go get Palestine, because I believe, and this this comes into play in just a moment when we took, get into the actual specifics of why there's so many, uh, conspiracy theories surrounding this in some weird, like, not even weird, but unbelievably crazy, crazy. Coincidences, if you would like to call them that, which is sparking a lot of people to question whether this is, you know, intentional or not. When we have multiple things like this happening all at once. All right? Now I'm not seeing specific. Okay, so here this is, this is it. It was from a different one. So one of the Houston and uh, or South Carolina one. So it says the crash by the 18 wheeler and union specific train occurred shortly before 7:30 AM Monday along Interstate 69, US 59 nearest intersection with poria and midline roads. So that was from a 18 wheeler semi-truck. All right. The one that was in. Now again, keep that in mind when we continue this conversation in just a minute. But before we do that, let's go ahead and read here. Um, it says, meanwhile, transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg talked about equity in the construction industry on Monday and didn't offer any remarks at all about the recent train derailment in the Eastern Pale Palestine. I don't know if it's Palestine or Palestine, I'm pretty sure it's Palestine. Uh, so the very, very silent on this from the White House, very, very silent on this from our news media, mainstream media, corporations. The only people that are really reporting on this are people who are on the ground right now. Some reporters who reported on this, and this is where it gets a little bit weird. A reporter was arrested during a news event about the Ohio trained derailment arrested. And this says, A reporter was pushed to the ground, handcuffed and arrested for trespassing while covering a news conference about the derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in Ohio. News Nation posted a video of correspondent Evan Lambert being arrested Wednesday in the gymnasium of an elementary school in East Palestine, where Governor Mike DeWine was giving an update about the incident. Lamber Lambert was held for about five hours before being released from jail. I'm doing fine right now. He said it's been an extremely long. No journalist expects to be arrested when you're just doing your job, and I think that's really important that it does not happen in our country. Yeah, well, it shouldn't unless he was doing something that we haven't read yet. But there is something called the freedom of press at the end of his news conference. DeWine said he didn't authorize the arrest, and reporters have every right to report during briefings. Yes, they do. If someone was, excuse me. My goodness. Might, might have been some of those trained chemical. All right. If someone was stopped from doing that or told they could not do that, that was wrong. A following statement from the governor's office said DeWine didn't see the incident because of a bank of cameras blocked his view, but he did hear a disagreement towards the back of the gymnasium. DeWine has always restricted the media's right. Who? Yeah. Screw off. Um, Mike Aria, news Nation's, Washington, and post bureau chief called the Arrest and Infuriating violation of the First Amendment. The Washington DC based Lambert could still face charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. News Nation said the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office Administration said the arrest was made by officers. Uh, a message seeking comment from the department was not immediately returned. Now this goes on to explain what happened, um, with the actual train derailment, which we've already read. It says The news conference started more than two hours late into wine. Started speaking at the same time, same instant. Lambert had to do a live broadcast from the back of the gym. Ger said police officers approached Lambert and asked him to stop talking. Lambert finished the live report, but was then asked to leave by authorities who tried to forcibly remove him from the event. From their standpoint, uh, he did not obey orders. Gymnasiums are echoy and loud, and so sound kind of carries, so I'm guessing that they just didn't like the fact that there was sound competing with the governor speaking, even though it was all the way at the other end of the. The anchor handling the report said he, she heard the reporter saying, the governor has just started speaking. I'm being told that I have to quit my report. Before it was cut short, he was then taken outside and placed in the back of a Sheriff's patrol car. Weird. So one of the only news networks from W K B N tv, uh, which is who captured the video of him being put on his face, on the ground and being handcuffed. Had the, one of the reporters while the news, uh, news Nation Reporter, which is who he was associated with, arrested for even trying to talk about this, even trying to be there and have a discussion around this. He was arrested by sheriffs. Now let's look at one more coincidence when it comes to the trains, which is. There is a movie with Adam Driver as the lead, which was shot in Palestine, Ohio, about a train that derailed releasing toxic chemicals in causing a max exodus of the public to get away from the Deadly Fumes. A Hollywood movie on Netflix right now called White. What can, can you look at me in the eye? Look me in the eye right now and tell me that's a coincidence, cuz I don't think you can do it. , this says that social media users are pointing out the Netflix movie, white Noise Starting Actor Adam Driver has eerie similarities to a catastrophic train derailment that took place earlier this month in. The movie based in Ohio in the 1980s depicts a college professor in his family, forced to evacuate their homes after a nearby train. Derailment prompts an airborne radiological event. Parts of the movie, which D debuted last August were filmed near East Palestine. The sites were 50 train cars derailed 10 days ago. Spewing toxic chemicals with citizens of the town, incredibly appearing in the movie as extras. What, what , so here's a quote. It says, here's a movie they just made about, just made about a train derailing with toxins in Ohio, filmed in Ohio, where this just happened. And many of the extras were locals from East Palestine, Ohio, who in the film evacuated. Then months later, just months later, they had to do so in real life. Now, if that is not a part of this simulations programming or a little glitch in the matrix, I don't know what is. And if it's not, it's all intentional and there's much more sinister things going on. But, uh, I think the easier path of least resistance here is just assuming we're in the matrix. Says the similarities between the movie and the actual event were so bizarre. Even CNN published an article on the coincidence interviewing a East Palestine resident who played a background actor. When Ben Ratner's family signed up in 2021, as said to be extras in the movie White Noise, they thought it would be a fun distraction from their day-to-day life in the blue collar East Palestine, Ohio. Ratner 37 is in an intense traffic jam scene sitting in the line of cars trying to evacuate after a freight train collided with a tanker truck triggering an explosion that fills the air with dangerous toxins. Now that's what I'm talking about, where one of these train derailments actually happened because there was a semi-truck that ran into it, and in this very movie, which was based in Ohio using Palestine reside. The train was derailed by a semi-truck. Can you look me in the eye and tell me that that's a coincidence? I don't think you can. The 20 20 20 22 movie was shot around Ohio and is based on a novel by Don DeLillo. The book was published in 1985, short teen, or shortly after, a chemical disaster in India that nearly killed 4,000 people. The book and film followed the fictional Gladney family, a couple and their four kids, as they flee an airborne toxic event and then return home and try to resume their normal lives. All of a sudden, they hit too close to home. The father said. The mysterious parallels between the movie in real life come as a Norfolk Southern Railroad train. Traveling from Illinois to Pennsylvania derailed in the massive fiery disaster on February 3rd with five train cars carrying noxious commercial compounds like vinyl chloride, which is known to cause cancer officials ordered mandatory evacuations of nearby areas and controlled releases of some of the toxic. Compounds since then, animals nearby as far as 10 miles away have been D developing illnesses and dying from the toxic chemicals that contaminated the area. Despite health issues, animals are exhibiting, officials gave the all clear for residents just five days later. Whoa. Let's go ahead and watch this trailer with Adam Driver. If he gets to be louder annoying, we'll, we'll stop it, but I don't think it will be. Um, but let's go ahead and listen to this. And you can hear this trailer from this movie about what just exactly happened, uh, in the programming of the matrix. Here we go. You like that protein? That stuff causes cancer in laboratory animals. In case you didn't know either a chew gum or a smoke. All these children, yours, that's mine from wives one and three. There's fe bets from Husband two. Wilder is ours. We're each other's force. I hope it lasts forever now as a semi truck is running into a train and then it exploding. Let's watch a sitcom or something. No, they're calling it the Airborne Toxic Event. We. Will we have to leave our home? Of course not. How do you know? I just know. Okay, what if it's dangerous? We have a situation, miles. All we have to do is stay out of the way. They're passing this tab. Technically, that's illegal. Do she have lashes on script? Now, this was up for an Academy Award, by the way, father, we're going sideways. Dad, do sheep have lashes? Doesn't anyone wanna pay attention to what's actually happening? What's a bunch of people in hazmat suits walking around? There are two kinds of people in the world. Most of us are dire right now. We're safe as long as the children are here. Us for some persistent sense of large scale ruin. We keep inventing. Looks a little murdery towards the end. So yeah, that's one of the craziest, if not the craziest coincidence to happen that I've seen almost ever. There's no way. No. How many, how many cities are there in the United States of America? Let's just cut it off there. There's a 2% likelihood that it happened in Ohio. 2% now in Ohio. How many cities are there, let's say, A thousand cities in Ohio. There's probably more, maybe I'm wrong, and there's less. Let's say there's 500, there's a thousand cities in Ohio. Let's say a thousand. That means there's a point, am my mask gonna be wrong here? Zero, zero 2% likelihood that it happened in this city, in this state. Then let's get into the likelihood of the timeframe within a year of this movie being put out. Then we talk about 0.0002 going to point, I don't know, call it 150, 300 years that you wanna play that timeline where trains could get ran into maybe by semi trucks, maybe the last 50. So even call it the last 50 , whatever this math is doing, it's a wildly unbelievable statistic. Or that this happened in this way. There's no statistical probability that this actually occurred in this manner. in the same place as this movie where it occurred in this manner. No way at all. Okay, number one weird thing going on at this very moment. Okay? There's the first thing. All right? Now the next thing that we're gonna get into is the military in the Biden administration. The United States of America has shot down four unidentified flying objects in just the last. Now one of those happens to be a silly looking white balloon that was floating over, and we'll talk about why I think that's interesting in just a moment. But three of those other ones, including one that was shot down today in over Lake Michigan, were not, they were cynical. iCal . So our White House actually spoke out about this and said, and was asked the question, are these aliens? So we'll watch that in just a moment, but let's go ahead and read this article first. But the White House actually spent the afternoon telling reporters. That they shouldn't be worrying about an alien invasion that just happened. Okay, so in a truly bizarre turn of events, press Secretary Korean Jean Pierre, addressed the downing of three unidentified objects in the past 48 hours by US Jets. Using the phrase, there is no indication of aliens or extra trio activity with these recent takedowns. There's no indication. , which means not yet. Anyways, Jean Pierre added that. She wanted to make sure the American people knew that. All of you knew that. And it is important to say that from here because we've been hearing a lot about it. Oh, have you? Of course you have. And, and, and that's where we're talking about these little sprinkles, right? Sprinkles. All of a sudden UFOs are gonna be something the government's been talking about. And we did a whole episode, I don't know, 20, 30 episodes ago, about Project Blue. If you don't know what Project Bluebeam is, we'll talk about that in just a minute. So let's address this first, but that is what a lot of people seem to be thinking is that between, there's a lot of things that have been released lately in the last week and a half, two weeks. There's a lot of really big news that is going to be breaking upcoming from the Epstein documents to a self-admitted black or black flag. Event, which happened, well, maybe not black flag, but, um, a false flag and not a false flag either. a, a event Biden administration admitted to basically blowing up the Nor Stream pipeline. So we'll see how that ties into it in just a minute. But let's go ahead and listen here to what the press Secretary has to say about u. Make sure we address this from the White House. I know there have been questions and and concerns about this, but there is no, again, no indication of aliens or extraterrestrial activity with these recent takedowns. Again, there is no indication of aliens or terrestrial activity with these recent takedowns. Wanted to make sure that the American people knew that all of you knew that. Uh, and it was important for us to say that from here because we've been hearing a lot about. because you guys have been telling us the stories about them. why would you not be hearing about it? Um, and also how would you be able to tell us if it was aliens or not, right? Um, she also said, uh, would you tell us if it was aliens? And she responded, I'm not. I love et the movie, but I'm just going to leave it there. With all seriousness, I know there are a lot of questions about the flying. So she didn't answer that question. The press secretary then handed over the National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, who did say, I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these crafts, period. I don't think anything else needs to be said there. My understanding is that, uh, the top officials in the Pentagon when asked explicitly if, uh, they were ruling out any kind of extraterrestrial presence, that they weren't ruling anything out. And yet at the beginning of today's, Albeit with her usual winning smile, uh, Ms. Jean Pierre seemed to rule out any extra terrestrial activity. I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these craft period. I don't think there's any more that needs to be said there on the, what's important about the way that he phrased that is I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens. Not that these aren't aliens, not that these are not extraterrestrials, not that we know 100%, that this is not the. What he said was, I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these crafts. So two parts of that linguistic programming for you there I don't think is a passive statement. Not, I know. I don't think the American people need to worry. About aliens with respect to these crafts. It's all in how you say it, right? He says, I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these crafts. But he could have said in the same words, I don't think the American people need to worry about aliens with respect to these crafts, period. The same statement can be said with different tonality, with the words that he said. It doesn't matter when you look at the words. He's not ruling it out. He's not saying, no, absolutely not. These are not aliens. Absolutely not. These are not extraterrestrials and some people are believing. Again, getting back to the, the. Overarching, ID like conspiracies surrounding this right now. Some people think that they're actually programming the, the general public to believe that that's what is going on here, because that's how it would appear, right? There's not too many press secretary meetings with the White House, where you have not only the Press Secretary, but also the, you know, str, white House National Security Council, strategic Communications coordinator, John Kirby, also coming out and talking about aliens because they shot down ufo. That is what's happening right now in the United States of America and in the world in 2023. In three years, five years, 10 years ago, uh, you were called crazy for talking about the aliens. , like it was actually a possibility, right? It says, speculation over the objects was running rampant over when they were described by military officials as metallic and balloon like with some reports indicating that they have no identifiable propulsion systems and have even interfered with equipment and military jets that got close to them. Glenn Van Herrick and Air Force General who commands NORAD and US Northern Commands was asked whether the Pentagon was ruling out aliens regarding the objects and replied, I haven't ruled out anything at this point. We will continue to. Every threat questions are being asked about the complete lack of details on the objects, um, on what they are, and the fact that Joe Biden hasn't even commented on the takedowns, and here he is completely ignoring the questions. Mr. President, do you object? Were you to, was it a balloon, Mr. President? Okay. I mean, that's useless. She's literally 70 yards away screaming, so I can't imagine he could hear somebody five fr from him with his hearing aids. Probably as low as they are, let alone as far as this reporter was. So I, I would take that with a grain of salt. Um, now, Rand Paul tweeted, uh, as ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I demand the president of the United States and Department of Defense tell us what they know and what they don't immediately. And that was today, this morning. Kirby claims, the Biden administration has been transparent as we can be, and that's where he stands in this statement here, because it's so unprecedented. Um, should the public be hearing from the president directly on this? I have. We, we have been, uh, uh, I think as transparent as we can be. I, I won't speak for the president's, uh, uh, personal, uh, speaking schedule, but I mean, he has been deeply engaged. Uh, every one of these decisions, he's been kept informed, including as of this morning on uh, what's going on with recovery efforts. Um, and, uh, and, uh, he's very much staying on top of the issue and, uh, and directing his team to make sure we are properly consulting and briefing, not just members of Congress, but state leaders as well. And of course, you know, we're also doing what we can in the, in the public sphere. All right. Again, not saying anything about what's actually going on there. Okay. Um, so time will tell and maybe it won't. Right. A lot of people are alluding, so let, let's, let's look at both sides of this. Okay. Let's take the train derailment out of it. Let's take everything else around it. What I have an issue with here is that initially we were dealing with a Chinese spy. A week ago, this whole huge media presence around the spy balloon, this white blip getting a missile thrown at it and falling down to the sea for days. We tracked this. It was this whole huge ordeal where it was all immediate. People were questioning why it came out about it being Chinese spy balloon. How did we know it's a Chinese spy balloon? How do we. Okay. So that's something to me that you have to take into consideration with these other three objects that have now been shot down, which they said were not the same thing as we shot down before. This was not a Chinese spy balloon. The other three objects, they were the, the spy balloon was not metallic, it was not cynical. Right. So what I think is weird is that. Putting out there, the, the idea initially before these types of weird shot down UFOs happened, the idea they were putting the idea out there to program the general public into thinking that it was also going to be Chinese technology. Right? They were, they were putting the idea out there heavily for days, preempting us moving into this event where we had three UFOs get shot down that were metallic, evading. Missiles and causing disruptions in radio frequencies from our fighter jets that were scrambled toward. Like F 20 twos, like that's not low technology for what we have. So that's one thing that I find to be weird about the whole thing. Just, just looking at it as a whole, I find it weird that we were being programmed to believe that there was a Chinese spy balloon, Chinese spy balloon, Chinese spy balloon, Chinese spy balloon. Now, there's three other objects that have been shot down since, and nobody's talking about them in the same way that they were the Chinese. Why are we not as interested in U F O potential extraterrestrial aircraft, which were shot down by F 20 twos as we were about a floating balloon from the big bad China man, right? Why? Why are we not as up in arms? Why is there not as much footage? Why is there not as many tweets going out there? Why? Why is this being suppressed in the way that's different? Why is the president not speaking out about it because he was speaking out about the Chinese balloon within a day or. I find that to be weird, right? Let's, let's keep Epstein out of this. Let's keep the train derailments. Let's keep the fact that the Nord Stream pipeline was blown up by the United States against Russia and admitted to it. Let's keep out the idea of, you know, everything else. I find that to be weird. Now. Everything that I just mentioned also happened in the last week, right? So there's that. Um, there was a pretty good tweet that was sent out by DC Drano, as always. Um, which said something along the lines of this, he said In the past week we've had three major train derailments, including one with a chemical spill. Four flying objects shot down by our military. Every major social media platform went down at the exact same time in, went out in two congressional buildings. I have to ask, are we. Attack. He said, what are the likelihoods that all of those things are happening simultaneously along the same timeframe that we're finding out that the Biden administration blew up the Nord Stream pipeline, you know? Basically starting at the very beginning of this war and putting us in a position to where the United States may have to defend itself against a world superpower because Biden, the big man hisself, was trying to protect the investment assets of his son at Barisma. So let's see what else they have to say about it. , but actually, let's go back because what, what if, what if we are under attack? What, what, who, who, who at this point would, would that be from, right. If we're finding out that the North Stream pipeline was blown up by the United States, which we kind of all knew already, right? We all kind of knew that. But it being finally put out there that that was actually what happened. Now we have a huge chemical spill leaking into the water systems of the everyday Americans. Now we have four incidents. Where we have to scramble fighter jets over us airspace to shoot down UFOs. All social media companies went down simultaneously at the same exact time, and two congressional buildings lost power at the same time as well. What are the odds of all of that? And, and, and, and here's the other thing that I'm seeing. I'm seeing prominent special forces guys like Mike Glover, like Tim Kennedy sounding the alarm on all of these things that are happening, telling you to get ready. Okay, I'll, I'll read you what Mike Glover said here. Um, and if you don't know about Mike Glover, let me pull up his account and see what his credentials are. Um, or if it'll even say, uh, but as far as I know, he was some type of, you know, tip of the spear Special forces. Uh, American War Hero and, uh, what he said was this, if I was the enemy, I'd create distrust in people and institutions through social media sabotage and burn supply chains, spy on key infrastructure and defense, and distract everyone away from the real intent Before I struck. Thank God none of that would ever happen here. Now, he had some people commenting on his post as. Um, saying, man, this feels a lot like it's very easy to conclude what that means, right? Shaping the general public's opinion. A slight of hand position between one to the other. I'm trying to show you what's going on, like kind of the old, look at this, look at this. I got this left hand here, and then poof. Hit you with the right is what I assume they're talking about, right? Shaping the general public's opinion, um, and getting you to to look one way while something else is going on in the other. And, and if this was going to happen and we were preempting, you know, the same way that we took some type of action on the Nord Stream pipeline, what if Russia was taking these actions? These types of things, like the UFOs situation, maybe they have drones up there. Um, maybe they were the ones that are carrying out these hazardous material train attacks. Um, maybe, maybe, maybe. I'm not saying that's the case, but it just seems like an awfully weird coincidence, especially when you have all of these ex-military guys seeming to pick up on the idea that this is some type of military operation. Right. Lots and lots of them are talking about this. Okay. Um, so let's move. All right. There's another article here that talks about it, which says The US military's first shot at unknown OC Octa octagonal object over like Huron Mist official said, which is pretty bizarre. Here's the clip. Uh, let me get a couple other folks here, Mike, and then. That, uh, the only reason the American people know about the first balloon is cuz a couple of guys in Montana spotted it and, and, and it leaked out. My, my question is, if it had remained secret and had not become a spectacle and be, and arguably an embarrassment to the White House, would you have shot it down or allowed it to continue on its way? So you're asking me to speculate? Sure. you like, so, so Mike, I, I'll kind of just push back a little bit at, at the assertion there. Uh, so first of all, again, what made this balloon different was the length and duration, uh, that it was over the United, the continental United States. Look, we track activities all over the globe on a daily basis. Um, Some of which will remain classified because again, we don't wanna reveal sources and methods in this particular case. Um, I can tell you, uh, that there were efforts underway to, uh, to make that public. Um, I, you know, Montana journalists reporting notwithstanding, um, all that to say, look, there are gonna be times when there's activities happening that we're monitoring that we're, we're not gonna go public, especially if it. Present a particular or pose a significant threat to the American public. Um, but again, uh, as, as we monitored that balloon, uh, there was an effort underway to ensure that that folks understood what this was, especially given how visible it was. Um, and I'll just stop there. Thank you. All right, so this article goes in to say that the US military jet that downed an unknown object in the Michigan sky on Sunday, missed on its first attempt over Lake Huron officials told Fox News the Air Force Ethics F 16 jet used using a Sidewinder missile to attack the target. The first side winder heat seeking missile missed the target. Uh, it goes honestly, it wasn't clear whether the missile that missed ultimately, , where are the missile that miss ultimately landed? The second missile took down the target. Each missile costs more than $400,000. . Imagine being that, but like, first of all, imagine being the a kicker that misses a kick during a football game. Now, imagine being a fighter pilot that misses. You're marked with a $400,000 rocket missile. Uh, none of the debris from the objects has been found in the Lake Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, said Monday The Defense Department or d od said President Biden just before 2:42 PM directed the F 16 to fire the missile to shoot down an airborne object flying at nearly 20,000 feet over Lake Huron. The downing over the fourth object was to be destroyed since February 4th when a Chinese spycraft was shot down over south. Now this is an octagonal object, which is different from the iCal object, which is different than the Chinese spy balloon. Okay, so how would one miss a static balloon object? We are not talking about the same thing that we. on Monday and maybe just maybe they had intel that showed that these things were gonna show up. Now it also noted at the bottom of that news hearing that this was an unmanned aircraft according to what they saw. Um, but I'm sure they wouldn't tell us if it was manned. Um, now the one that was shot down over Alaska was cnr. And Silverish Gray. And now we have the article on that says, the US government has announced that it's successfully shot down in an unidentified object over the Alaskan coast. Still a day later officials have yet to identify its owner or purpose. The FBI and Coast Guard and Navy have efforts to recover. The object are currently underway. Um, don't think there's anything a part of this art article that's gonna blow us. All right, now this is coming up where the lawmakers are demanding. Biden. Address the nation on these U F O incurs. . So let's see what he has to say about that Frustration on Capitol Hill is mounting after a string of aerial objects were shot down over the US and Canadian airspace in the last few days, raising a long list of questions that lawmakers say President Biden should publicly address. The President owes the American people an explanation direct and on camera of what we know about these objects and what steps he's taking to protect American Sovereign Aerospace. Marco Rubio, the Vice Chairman of the Intelligence Committee, also joined the calls from President Biden to address the nation. Nor Ed's been around for almost 65 years, he said, and the command in charge of patrolling us and Canadian airspace, we've never shot anything down, and in eight days we've shot down four things. That's a pretty big deal. It doesn't happen every day. Rubio in the tweet. Americans need to hear directly from this about their president today. We have been, and I think it's as transparent as we can be, said John. So basically they're just calling him out to talk about this. Okay? Now, if this is something that is a national security threat, which he said they would have notified us about, which they didn't only until people called them out on it, um, we, we have a right to know that, right? We have a right to know if this is something that we should be concerned about, if we should be seeking shelter, if we should be. Concerned about what's happening over the United States at this very moment and why we're having three separate aerial incidences going on. Because if this is not extraterrestrials, then what is it? Who's doing this? Is it Russia? Is it China? And if so, what are their intentions? Because we know the original balloon was Chinese. Well, maybe, right? We know that, right? But why are they doing this now? What is this escalation of tension? Right? And more recently, The United States called on all citizens to leave Russia recently. Let's see if I can get a date on that. But to me that's the most alarming thing here is this is if nothing crazy is going on here, this is an escalation of military tension between one world superpower and another superpower In the best case scenario. . I mean, obviously not the best case scenario. The best case scenarios is some 16 year old playing with drones that made them look like something nobody's ever seen before. And they're really mad now because they lost all their toys, uh, but . But besides that, what seems to be the best case scenario here is that this is some type of escalation of tensions between military world superpowers during one of the very first hot wars of nations that we are now a part. , especially during the timing of the Nord Stream pipeline coming out as being, you know, our responsibility. So what was I looking up? I don't know. Um, but yeah, so that to me, if it, if nothing else. Oh yeah. Russia. Russia Fleeing. Okay. United States, Russia. Evacuate order. All right, let's see what we have to say here. US orders, family members of the embassy staff to leave Ukraine. Okay. Um, Americans ordered to evacuate Russia, and this was 11 hours ago. Let's see if I can get a better source than this. Uh, Let's see news and let's go past day. All right, here's Reuters. United States tells citizens to leave Russia immediately. Now this is during all of this escalation of tension. This is during the time where we're shooting down multiple UFOs. This is during the time where President Biden has been caught blowing up the North Stream pipeline, which caused a big portion of this upfront part of this war to escalate to where it did. And here's what the article says. United States tells citizens to leave Russia immediately. This is on the 13th. Today, the United States has told its citizens to leave Russia immediately due to the war in Ukraine. In the risk of arbitrary arrest or harassment by Russian law enforcement agencies, um, US citizens residing or traveling in Russia should depart immediately. The US Embassy in Moscow said. Do not travel to Russia. It said in Russia. Security services have arrested US citizens on spurious charges. Singled out US citizens in Russia for detention and harassment. Denied them fair and transparent treatment and convicted them in secret trials or without presenting credible evidence. Russian authorities arbitrarily enforced local laws against US citizens, religious workers, and have opened questionable criminal investigations against US citizens engaged in religious activity, uh, interest. So amidst all of this, we're recalling all US citizens from Russia. So that should is another piece of the puzzle here, right? If, if we're shooting down multiple military aircraft over our airspace, if one of them was China and now we're calling for all US citizens to come back from, from Russia, the likelihood that this is not an escalation of military tensions and this is not some sort of. You know, internal human type of technology that we just don't have access to yet seems to be a higher probability at this point, unless Russia's working with the aliens, in which case, that's an interesting plot twist. . Uh, now, um, one of the last things that we're gonna touch on here is going to be the Jeffrey Epstein document. So here's, here's my deal. Let's close out the U F O thing. I don't know guys, it's going, those are my separate but conjoined theories. If it's a, if it's a, a military escalation of tension, that's highly concerning, right? That means there's a high probability that we may be going to war very shortly if, if, if these types of things have any correlation with each other between the attacks, you know, um, on the North Stream pipeline being released as, as the fault of the United States, of these military aircraft, um, or UFOs that have been shot down three times in US airspace over the last week. All of these things coming together at one time, the train's being derailed and causing massive explosions and releases of, of toxic chemicals. Uh, all of it, all of it seems pretty weird. Now, in the midst of all of this, in the midst of all of this, you have several other things going on, which I will pull up here as well. Uh, I posted this the other day and again, coming. DC Draino. It says, these balloons sure have been a good distraction from Pfizer. Admitting gain of function for covid strains to boost profits in vaccine affecting menstrual cycles. Infertility, hunter Biden's, partial ownership of a Ukrainian biolab and Biden caught blowing up the Nord Stream pipeline. Right? Three huge news stories which have flown under the radar during this time as a result of balloon of a balloon. All right. Now another big one that everybody's alluding to is the fact that Jeffrey Epstein's documents with the names of associates to be made. . All right. Now, if you've been following me for a while, you know that I made my channel building off of, um, all of the stuff that happened at the very beginning following all of the Epstein situations while it was unfolding over a year ago Now. and the Ghislaine Maxwell trial. All right. Um, now this goes on to say that the last batch of documents with the names of those associated with deceased financier, uh, Jeffrey Epstein will be unsealed in the near future. According to media reports, daily mail reported that the material is expected to be made public in the coming months, nearly four years after Epstein took his own life, while incarcerated in the New York Federal Corrections facility. The documents are expected to contain the names of associates, victims, and employees connected to ep. They refer to alleged perpetrators or those accused of serious wrongdoing as well as law enforcement officials and prosecutors. Epstein was associated in friends. Uh, Epsteins was associated in friends with many public figures, incu, including Bill Gates and former President Donald and Bill Clinton. Donald Trump and Bill Clinton. It was not clear if those names will be mentioned in the materials. PR Prince Andrew, who is accused of having sex with Epstein's victim, Virginia Roberts, now Virginia Guff underage and the attorney of Alan Dershowitz are understood to be among the individuals mentioned in the papers. According to the Daily Mail report, the documents have been sealed since Epstein killed himself in 2019, killed himself. Um, in quotes and were use, uh, were using the DEF Defamation case brought by Roberts in 2015 against Max. She was eventually convicted of sex trafficking and recruiting minors for Epstein. The lawsuit was settled in, the materials have now been gradually released ever. Some of the people slated to be identified include John Doe five, A victim who gave evidence at Maxwell's trial using only her first name. The report said another is an assistant district attorney. Another was described as a public figure by Maxwell's lawyers who objected to the name becoming public. John Doe 23 is deceased but was accused of serious wrongdoing. The documents state according to the Daily Mail, and they are not identified by mail or. Name. Okay, now I released Epstein's. Everybody's been calling for this release of the Black book. Like everybody tell us all his associates. I released his black book almost. 10 months ago. It's on my sub sub right now. You can go back in the files of my sub and find the coverage that I did and find this black book that everybody's been talking about. I don't know, I don't believe that's what's being made public here, but it was like basically all of his contact list of everybody who was ever associated with all of the owners of industries, all of the owners of companies, all the financial, JP Morgan Chase, high up people. All of the presidents and all of the, the royalty, all of them, all of the celebrities, all of the musicians were all in this book that I posted, written in Epstein's handwriting. Okay. So it's not like we don't have a clue as to who these people are. Right? I don't know what everybody's waiting for to persecute these people. We already know that Prince Andrew, like, what the, what the hell do you think's gonna happen once Prince Andrew's name is is released on this? You think he's all of a sudden gonna be prosecuted? Nothing's gonna happen, right? And you've probably heard this before. The reason they haven't released this list is because they are on it. High level judges, high level politicians, very well-known celebrities, presidents, kings of countries, royalty high Lee famous mu musicians and actors, all of them. Bill Gates, him. Is on that list, and we know it as a fact, and nothing's happening to him right now. In fact, the establishment is taking his advice on every little nutritional thing he ever feeds them with no positioning as a doctor to be able to do so. No credentials to be able to do so. Okay, so let's keep that at the forefront of our minds when all of this stuff is coming out too, that we have other things to pay attention to that are going. Don't let a Chinese spy balloon distract you from the fact that some of the most egregious perpetrators of sexual assault against underage children is about to be released very, very shortly. So in the meantime, keep your eyes open. Okay. Maybe get prepared a little bit. Right? And I'm not an alarmist, I'm not calling you to, you know, go stock up on, on, you know, I don. Beans. But I do think that if, if all of these things are escalating to the way that they are, the potential likelihood of something happening where you need to be prepared is just getting higher. Right? So do what you need to do to protect your family. Right. Uh, . And in the meantime, sign up for my ck red pill revolution.ck.com. Um, go ahead and subscribe and, uh, leave a five star review. I would appreciate it again, from the bottom of my heart. Uh, yeah. Have a great day guys. Welcome to the Revolution. Thank you.

Sharie teaches on how Luke weaves his storyline so that the stories of John, Jesus, and others illuminate each other.
Massive action. I don't know about you, but these two words feel like nails on the chalkboard to me. Overarching massive action made me consistently exhausted in the past, so I know what I'm talking about. I remember I was completely in the masculine energy that period, and it was like:- Make it happen!- Figure it out!- Produce! - Execute! Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to vilify the masculine. It's the other energy of creation. We got to marry masculine and feminine energies and hit a balance between the two so that they serve each other well on our journey to the life of our dreams. - So, do we need action? Yes.- Is it important? Yes.- Is action first? No.If you want faster results, you should get out of massive action and get into alignment first. This sounds like a formula… A simple one, I would say. Probably you would say it's easier said than done…But I happen to know how to get faster results without taking massive action - and I'm willing to share it with you.So, tune in for this week's episode as I'm explaining how to get faster results in any aspect of your life without being frustrated, overwhelmed, burnout, and exhausted.Let's dive in!Key Takeaways:- Intro (00:00)- Massive action (01:23)- What is alignment, and how do you align? THE THESIS: The Party has written the W.H.O. document in such a way that it will allow the W.H.O. to seize control over areas in America--areas they define--using nothing more than tweets about public health--again, as defined by them--as a pretext. If anyone thinks that the W.H.O. will not abuse that, you have been asleep for three years. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. THE NEWS & COMMENT: Support Women's Rights Without Frontiers Take action against global surveillance After Setback for WHO, Agency Now Working on Far-Reaching Amendments to the Global Rules Experts warn of 'medical tyranny' from the World Health Organization [AUDIO] - 83 Year Old Sums it ALL Up in 30 Seconds From the view of the Mockingbrids: A new pandemic treaty: what the World Health Organization needs to do next WHO Director-General's opening remarks at The Aspen Institute Congressional Program – 1 June 2022 “Overarching all these recommendations is the proposal for a new international instrument, to provide the framework for closer cooperation and coordination between countries in the face of global threats. This was a key recommendation of all the independent reviews. At a Special Session of the World Health Assembly last year, Member States including the United States decided to embark on the process of negotiating a new international accord. That process has now begun. An international instrument will be an important complement to the International Health Regulations, which govern the global response to health emergencies. I'm aware that there has been some concern expressed over whether such an agreement is an infringement of national sovereignty. The answer is: no. It's important to note that the negotiating process is a discussion among Member States – Member States themselves, including the US, will decide what the instrument will look like, not the WHO Secretariat.” Death rates are soaring again in highly vaccinated European countries; All-cause mortality is spiking - right on schedule, three-plus months after booster mRNA shots - and mostly in the elderly, the most highly boosted group. It's getting hard to see this as coincidence. Overall deaths in Australia - where nearly everyone is vaccinated - are spiking. It's Monday Down Under. Get ready to start the week with frightening data "Covid vaccinations for children under age 5 to begin as early as June 21, White House says"; Ashish Jha, Fauci, Francis Collins, Walensky, CDC, NIH, all know this is criminal; healthy kids will die! They all know healthy children do not need this, and that antibody levels are not a proxy of immunity and that the trials were bull sh*t frauds by Pfizer and Moderna, undersized and short duration Pfizer & Moderna cannot demonstrate in ANY of their children trials, because risk of severe illness in children is so vanishingly low, that COVID causes hospitalization, died, infected, severe disease; These Pfizer & Moderna demons (Bourla & Bancel), these demons working with FDA to pull off this crime, know they cannot show any vax merit in low risk children; so they instead show antibody increase COVID-19 rebound possible after taking Paxlovid, but no further treatment necessary: CDC THE LISTENERS: Gregory Todd, your message in hour two on 6/6/22 really touched me. First of all, I've been a fan since your radio days since around 2018. We're about the same age, and have both worked in tech (I still write code). I also became a believer later in life, at 33. I became a political conservative around the same time. I co-led the Seattle Tea Party Patriots group from 2011 to about 2014 (it was a small group as you may guess!). After 53 years, I left my lifetime home of Seattle for many reasons, Seattle's obvious decline being a big one. We moved to the Tampa Florida area, and we feel very much at home. I'm also an "Emerald City Exile"! Most of my co-workers here are believers, which as you know, would almost never happen in the Seattle area, especially in tech. For years I had joked that I'd have to leave Seattle before the civil war. Now, looking at things, I think our move may have been God-directed. I did indeed pray about it before we moved, and I believe God blessed the move. Anyhow, your admonition to move from the "Separate Countries" really hit a chord with me today. In Him, Greg Moon, Riverview FL --- --- ---- Todd, The 1st hour of your show today reminded me of a speaker we recently had at Cedar Park Church. He spoke about Understanding the command of genocide in the old testament in light of a good God. One of the points he made revolved around the statement God makes to to Abraham in Genesis 15 verse 16. "for the iniquity of the Amorites [is] not yet full." There is a lot packed into this but to briefly summarize God is saying the Amorites are engaging in all manor of immorality but they're still not worthy of my righteous judgement. The speaker goes on to list all of the immoral acts the Amorites ultimately pay with their lives for. Sexual sin and child sacrifice were toping the list. At the end of the night as I was packing up the video gear I was able to as the speaker this. In the USA we have child sacrifice down through abortion. We have all manner of sexual sin being celebrated and even codified in our laws. So where is America at on God's iniquity meter? He didn't give a definite answer but he suggested that we'll be considered complete in our iniquity when things get to the point of generational acceptance and expectation of what you and I see as abhorrent. Lord revive our country and bring us back from the edge of the cliff that would plunge us to utter destruction should be fall over it. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
