We can think "It's not fair" when we suffer an injustice...or when we're simply inconvenienced. Take a look at the nature of biblical fairness as we also draw from the history of America's founding. Where in your life have you not been willing to choose More, because it would not be fair? Functioning for a reality of fairness for all, is actually NOT a contribution or an act of kindness to you or anyone else. You cannot escape being judged for your willingness to have more in life, so you might as well turn it UP! Notice where in your life are you making choices based on this reality's fairness scale, let yourself know "It's not fair" and laugh it off - ha ha ha

Mixtape week 2 But God , it’s not fair. ““For the Kingdom of Heaven is like the landowner who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay the normal daily wage and sent them out to work. “At nine o’clock in the morning he was passing through the marketplace and saw some people standing around doing nothing. So he hired them, telling them he would pay them whatever was right at the end of the day. So they went to work in the vineyard. At noon and again at three o’clock he did the same thing. “At five o’clock that afternoon he was in town again and saw some more people standing around. He asked them, ‘Why haven’t you been working today?’ “They replied, ‘Because no one hired us.’ “The landowner told them, ‘Then go out and join the others in my vineyard.’ “That evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first. When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage. When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a day’s wage. When they received their pay, they protested to the owner, ‘Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’ “He answered one of them, ‘Friend, I haven’t been unfair! Didn’t you agree to work all day for the usual wage? Take your money and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you. Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?’ “So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.”” Matthew 20:1-16 NLT https://www.bible.com/116/mat.20.1-16.nlt Emotional clues. 1)jealousy 2)bitterness 3)insecurity 4)anger 5)indifference.

"The time is always right to do what is right." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today I dive deep into a question posed to me on Instagram: "Do you find it hard to understand where others are coming from based on your background? Do you get blind sighted by cultural experiences you didn't know growing up?" These are good f'ing questions and I dig deep into explaining my upbringing, getting honest about my privilege & how it was with this foundation that I have been able to learn of & unlearn a lot of my biases in order to come into conversations with an open mind & open heart. I hope you enjoy the conversation! xoxo, Jessi This is My Truth is a newly launched podcast, and I'd love to know what you think! Continuing with our sermon series from Matthew, todays passage is a difficult parable wherein, from one perspective, a farmer is imminently fair, but from another, some laborers feel cheated. Perhaps this parable shows us that the human idea of fairness is not Gods idea of fairness. And perhaps we are to understand that our tendency to compare ourselves to others is also not Godly. So what is Godly?

Sunday, September 20, 2020“It’s not fair!” These are words we learn quickly as children; “It’s not fair” is also the grumbling of many in the Scripture passages today (Jonah 4 and Matthew 20:1-16); “It’s not fair” is also something that many said about the events of this past week in Lancaster — a tragic succession of events that shook the community. So, what is fair? How might God’s justice differ from our own? Pastor Rob looks at the story of Jonah, arguing that God’s justice is not focused on retribution and reward, but on reconciliation and renewal. Justice is served when all has been made right. The work of the cross is bringing about this kind of justice; the work of prayer is figuring out how we can live in a world that still needs retribution and reward, yet always hoping for God’s justice of reconciliation

When the grace of God–that one-of-a-kind, undeserved, unasked, unearned love–is applied to our own hearts and lives, we love it. But when it is applied to the hearts and lives of others, we aren't always happy about it. That is especially true when we think a person "like that" doesn't deserve it. It just seems so unfair. God's grace seems so unfair, which is exactly what Jonah thinks at the end of his book. But maybe, just maybe, God's grace isn't fair–and that's the point.

Because according to Jesus, it doesn’t matter when you were called to the vineyard, our reward is the same and so is our value. Those who have been in the church for many years provide stability, maturity, wisdom, perspective, an example of faithful perseverance which his crucial in any church. Those dear ones are the guardians of our story and the gatekeepers of our community. But, equally, the enthusiasm, the freshness, the healthy questions, the new perspective of the late hires is vital if we are to be a truly healthy parish church.

Life isn’t fair. So, it’s only natural for us to want things to be just. We do our best to create fairness in different areas of our lives: in the economy, in opportunity, and even in our relationships. In our shared life with our partners, we want things to be 50/50, to be equitable. I am a staunch advocate of cultivating balance, but seeking fairness in relationships is different, and attachment to the idea can negatively impact a couple and their connection. In this episode, I explore why we attach to the idea of fairness and explain how it can be detrimental to our relationships. I share some of my experiences with wanting things to be fair and recount the story of a couple who worked through the idea of equality in their relationship. I differentiate seeking balance against seeking equity in relationships and why keeping scores can lead us to getting stuck. I also discuss how the power of appreciation and curiosity can help us overcome our attachment to fairness and find balance in the relationship. “If you’re willing to let go of what is fair and instead focus on what’s loving, you’ll discover connection, understanding, and transformation.” - Pripo Teplitsky This week on Relationships! Let’s Talk About It: Experiencing the vulnerability of not being in control Our tendency to give based on equality and how fairness can be detrimental to a relationship Treating the relationship as a third entity Focusing on the needs of the relationship versus being fair and keeping score How being honest with your needs and capacity will help your relationship work as a team How our childhood experiences shape our notions of fairness The difference between seeking balance and seeking fairness in the relationship The role of effective communication skills in maintaining a relationship’s balance The impact of bringing, and complementing, each others’ strengths in a relationship The story of a couple who overcame the need to be fair in their relationship How we bring our ideas of fairness to workplace relationships Looking at a relationship through the lens of kindness and trusting in the process of giving and receiving Bringing curiosity in relationships and how it can help us move beyond the scorekeeping Making room in the relationship where dreams could be realized and needs could be met Related Content: The #1 Relationship Booster Self-Compassion Can Improve Your Relationships Stop Playing the Blame Game: Take Responsibility In Your Relationships The Secret to Love is Just Kindness Let’s Talk About It! I've always hated the term "IT'S NOT FAIR", especially when said by adults. Boris Johnson's chief aide, Dominic Cummings, incensed the nation this week, fuelling calls for his immediate dismissal. Among the rage, were claims that "IT'S NOT FAIR". This week, I explain why I hate that sentence.
