"Unless God shows up… Unless He fixes this… Unless I see it with my own eyes… I won't believe."Sound familiar? In this gripping sermon, Pastor Thomas-Steele pulls back the curtain on our hidden ultimatums with God—and shows how they echo the same words spoken by the devil, the Pharisees… and even one of Jesus' own disciples. But what if the real miracle isn't in getting the sign you asked for—but in believing without one? What if real faith doesn't need proof? What if the greatest blessing comes not from seeing—but from trusting anyway? This message will challenge your assumptions, comfort your doubts, and invite you into the kind of faith that Jesus calls blessed.

"If we are not harder than iron, this exhortation ought to soften us, and render us disposed to forgive offences. Unless God pardon us every day many sins, we know that we are ruined in innumerable ways: and on no other condition does he admit us to pardon, but that we pardon our brethren whatever offences they have committed against us. Those who refuse to forget the injuries which have been done to them, devote themselves willingly and deliberately to destruction, and knowingly prevent God from forgiving them."--John Calvin, Commentary on the Harmony of the Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Vol. 1, 330.

Lesson of the Day 66 - My Happiness And My Function Are One with Clare

LESSON 66My Happiness And My Function Are One.You have surely noticed an emphasis throughout our recent lessons on the connection between fulfilling your function and achieving happiness. This is because you do not really see the connection. Yet there is more than just a connection between them; they are the same. Their forms are different, but their content is completely one.The ego does constant battle with the Holy Spirit on the fundamental question of what your function is. So does it do constant battle with the Holy Spirit about what your happiness is. It is not a two-way battle. The ego attacks and the Holy Spirit does not respond. He knows what your function is. He knows that it is your happiness.Today we will try to go past this wholly meaningless battle and arrive at the truth about your function. We will not engage in senseless arguments about what it is. We will not become hopelessly involved in defining happiness and determining the means for achieving it. We will not indulge the ego by listening to its attacks on truth. We will merely be glad that we can find out what truth is.Our longer practice period today has as its purpose your acceptance of the fact that not only is there a very real connection between the function God gave you and your happiness, but that they are actually identical. God gives you only happiness. Therefore, the function He gave you must be happiness, even if it appears to be different. Today's exercises are an attempt to go beyond these differences in appearance, and recognize a common content where it exists in truth.Begin the ten-to-fifteen-minute practice period by reviewing these thoughts:God gives me only happiness. He has given my function to me.Therefore my function must be happiness.Try to see the logic in this sequence, even if you do not yet accept the conclusion. It is only if the first two thoughts are wrong that the conclusion could be false. Let us, then, think about the premises for a while, as we are practicing. The first premise is that God gives you only happiness. This could be false, of course, but in order to be false it is necessary to define God as something He is not. Love cannot give evil, and what is not happiness is evil. God cannot give what He does not have, and He cannot have what He is not. Unless God gives you only happiness, He must be evil. And it is this definition of Him you are believing if you do not accept the first premise. The second premise is that God has given you your function. We have seen that there are only two parts of your mind. One is ruled by the ego, and is made up of illusions. The other is the home of the Holy Spirit, where truth abides. There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it.Thus, it must be that your function is established by God through His Voice, or is made by the ego which you have made to replace Him. Which is true? Unless God gave your function to you, it must be the gift of the ego. Does the ego really have gifts to give, being itself an illusion and offering only the illusion of gifts?Think about this during the longer practice period today. Think also about the many forms the illusion of your function has taken in your mind, and the many ways in which you tried to find salvation under the ego's guidance. Did you find it? Were you happy? Did they bring you peace? We need great honesty today. Remember the outcomes fairly, and consider also whether it was ever reasonable to expect happiness from anything the ego ever proposed. Yet the ego is the only alternative to the Holy Spirit's Voice. You will listen to madness or hear the truth. Try to make this choice as you think about the premises on which our conclusion rests. We can share in this conclusion, but in no other. For God Himself shares it with us. Today's idea is another giant stride in the perception of the same as the same, and the different as different. On one side stand all illusions. All truth stands on the other. Let us try today to realize that only the truth is true.In the shorter practice periods, which would be most helpful today if undertaken twice an hour, this form of the application is suggested:My happiness and function are one, because God has given me both.It will not take more than a minute, and probably less, to repeat these words slowly and think about them a little while as you say them.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Unless God builds it, it will not last.  Yes, mankind has build structures that have lasted centuries but we are talking about a life.  Our hope and trust can't be in our own ability to sustain ourselves.  We can't do it without God.  How do we allow God to do the work in our life that will sustain us and out last us?  First and foremost we must pray.  Prayer is not a command but a privilege that we get when we submit ourselves to Jesus and make Him Lord of our life.  And second is fasting.  Fasting is not a welcomed activity in the American Church because it goes against all that our culture teaches.  Indulge, indulge, indulge.  God is telling us to fast and restrain ourselves for a period of time so that we can get direction from the divine contractor on our part in building a life that last and one that bring honor to Him.

October 22, 2024 Today's Reading: Hebrews 4:1-13, 14-16Daily Lectionary: Deuteronomy 21:1-23; Deuteronomy 22:1-24:9; Matthew 16:1-12Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. As with Israel of old, the promises God makes with us seem too good to be true. When we die, we will not die but live forever. When we face His judgment, God will find no sin at all to accuse or condemn us. Does God even know us? When God calls out to “strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience (Hebrews 4:11),” He is calling us to ignore every other voice but the one calling us back to our Baptism into Christ. For God knows how many our sins are, how overwhelming our guilt is, how insurmountable the odds of us doing anything to help ourselves in His judgment. Either Jesus saves us all the way, or we will not be saved. In his commentary on Galatians, Luther writes, “I remember how Doctor Staupitz used to say to me: ‘I have promised God a thousand times that I would become a better man, but I never kept my promise. From now on I am not going to make any more vows. Experience has taught me that I cannot keep them. Unless God is merciful to me for Christ's sake and grants unto me a blessed departure, I shall not be able to stand before Him.'”  Luther goes on to point out how this was “a God-pleasing despair. For no true believer trusts in his own righteousness, but says with David, ‘If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?'” (Ps. 130:3).What we need from the throne of grace is not more time or energy. For poor, miserable sinners who ever offend God and justly deserve His temporal and eternal punishment, what we need, what truly helps us, is the grace from above that says, “I love you. I forgive you. I got this. And true to My Jesus, true to My Word, I save you.”But that is the promise God makes with Jesus on the cross for you, with Jesus in your Baptism for you, with Jesus on your pastor's lips for you, and with Jesus at His Supper for you. Yes, your rest, too, has been won. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The world seeks to be praised And honored by the mighty Yet never once reflects That they are frail and flighty. But what I truly prize Above all things is He, My Jesus, He alone. What is the world to me! (LSB 730:2)-Rev. Bradley Drew, pastor of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Metairie, LA.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.In Embracing Your Lutheran Identity, Author Gene Edward Veith Jr. will guide readers through that heritage, starting with the Early Church and moving through the Reformation to Lutheranism today. Readers will learn about key people in the history of Lutheranism, from two teenagers who were the first martyrs of the Reformation, through the Saxon immigrants who left everything behind so they could practice Lutheranism freely, to the Lutherans who have stood strong for the faith in our own day.

Unless God opens the eyes and ears of our understanding, we will never grasp the truth of God's plan contained in scripture. God anoints His called preachers to teach His elect. (Ephesians 4:11-13) Solomon wrote, "Because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; he gave good heed, sought out, and set in order many proverbs" (Ecclesiastes 12:9). This wisdom is not human intellect; it is God's illumination revealed through His servants by the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 132 is the thirteenth of the fifteen “Ascent Songs” or “Pilgrim Psalms”. The title doesn't tell us who the writer is but from the psalm itself many have come to the conclusion that it was Solomon. Since verses 8-10 are quoted by Solomon in his prayer at the dedication of the temple (2 Chron. 6:41-42), perhaps this psalm was written for that occasion. You might also notice the references to David in Solomon's prayer (2 Chron. 6:3-11,15-17).   As I read this psalm, I am reminded of the importance of the presence and the blessing of the Lord upon our lives, our families, our churches, and our nation. We might experience success and outwardly appear to have great happiness and prosperity, but unless the blessings and presence of God is there, we really have nothing worth having! When David turned the kingdom over to Solomon the borders were secure, the nation was prosperous beyond imagination, and everything was great! But the Ark of the Covenant wasn't in its “resting place” in the Holy City of Jerusalem. The Shekinah glory of God was missing. First in verses 1-5, we must make sure that God is in His rightful place in our lives and in our worship! It is interesting to note that in the 150 psalms, that this is the only psalm where the ark is mentioned. The ark represented God's throne on earth (Psalm 80:1 and 99:1), and its rightful place was in the Holy of Holies of God's sanctuary. Unless God is on the throne of our lives, no enterprise we attempt can be really successful. The ark had been in several places before Solomon put it into the temple (2 Chron. 5). The ark went before the children of Israel as they followed the cloud and pillar of fire through the wilderness, and it also went before them into the water as the people crossed the Jordan River and entered Canaan. It is possible that the ark was temporarily at Bethel (Judg. 20:27) and then Mizpah (Judg. 21:5), but it finally rested at Shiloh (1 Sam. 1-3). The wicked sons of Eli used the ark as a "good luck charm" and took it into battle against the Philistines, but the Philistines captured it (1 Sam. 4-5). Frightened by the judgments God sent, the Philistines returned the ark to the Jews, and for twenty years it rested in the house of Abinadab in Kirjath Jearim (1 Sam. 6:1-7:2). When David became king, he wanted the ark in Jerusalem and prepared a tent for it, but his first attempt failed (2 Sam. 6:1-11). The ark remained in the house of Obed-Edom for three months, and then David successfully brought God's throne to Jerusalem (2 Sam. 6:12-19; 1 Chron. 15-16). It appears that the tabernacle of Moses and its holy furniture were in Gibeon (1 Chron. 21:29). David had two great ambitions: to bring the ark to Jerusalem and then to build a glorious temple to house it. He even made a vow to the Lord, and the Lord permitted him to fulfill the first desire but not the second (2 Sam. 7). David had gone through much hardship, “affliction” (v. 1), with reference to the building of the temple (v. 1; 1 Chron. 22:14), for the wealth he turned over to Solomon came from the spoils of his many battles. The worship leader called on God to "remember—pay attention to" what David had done, for humanly speaking, without David there would have been no temple. Even purchasing the property on which the temple was built cost David a great deal of pain (2 Sam. 24). Today, if we have received the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, our vey bodies have become the temple of the Holy Spirit and God (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Are you allowing Him to sit upon the throne of your heart and direct your every decision and step in life? Do you desire and seek His presence so much that you get up early or stay up late (v. 4), to spend time in His Word and prayer, in fellowship with Him? Today, it is my prayer that all of us would make our hearts and lives a “dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob”! The world desperately needs to see His Glory today! God bless!

Bible Reading: Psalm 16; John 15:8-17Grace twirled her hair nervously as she walked up to Ms. Evie. Evie looked the same as she did months ago--only now she was in a wheelchair.Evie looked up with a bright smile when she saw Grace. "How is it that you've grown even taller in just a few months?" Evie's green eyes sparkled and she squeezed Grace's hand. "Hi, Ms. Evie. I'm sorry about your car accident. My parents said you won't walk again."Evie nodded. "Unless God performs a miracle, I don't think I will.""But--doesn't that make you angry?" asked Grace. "You're in the middle of going to college and you had so many plans interrupted. But it's weird, you don't seem angry. You look--happy!" Grace clapped her hand over her mouth. "I shouldn't have said all that." Ms. Evie's laughter sounded like tinkling bells. "It's okay, Grace! It's refreshing to hear some honesty. Let me tell you a secret." Evie leaned forward. "I'm not happy." "What?" Grace's eyes widened."I'll explain. I'm not happy about my situation, but I do have joy." "What's the difference? I thought they were kind of the same thing," Grace mused. "Good question! Happiness depends on our circumstances, which can change from day to hour to minute. But true joy comes from knowing Jesus. Jesus joy is my secret weapon."Grace sighed. "It's not always easy to be joyful." Evie shook her head. "It's not. For the first few weeks, I was mad at God, asking Him why this happened. I still feel sad about what I've lost, but I've been thinking about what Hebrews 12:2 says about fixing our eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross so we could have the joy of knowing Him. Jesus loved us enough to make the ultimate sacrifice. The joy set before Him was knowing that we would belong to Him forever when we trust Him to save us. Knowing He's always with me and that He promises to give me a new, perfect body one day fills me with joy." "I guess I'd never thought of it like that," said Grace. "I have noticed that spending time with Jesus lifts me up when I'm feeling sad. When I read my Bible and sing praise songs, it just makes me feel more--""Joyful?" Evie interjected. "Yeah!""Sounds like you've got Jesus joy too, girl!" –Savannah ColemanHow About You?Have you ever thought about the difference between joy and happiness? Is there a person in your life who you could see had the joy of Jesus in them despite tough circumstances they were going through? Do you have the joy of Jesus in you to give you strength when hard times come? God promises that when we belong to Him, His joy will be in us and our joy will be full (John 15:11). Spend time in His presence and soak up the joy He offers you!Today's Key Verse:For the joy set before [Jesus] he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. If we are to be effective in anything we do for God, He must be in the midst of it. Unless God's power is seen among us, we will be just another person who has religion. Unless we show His life to others, they will see only good behaviour that is easily counterfeited by moral people. Moving out in presumption will end in failure and frustration.

According to research cited by a recent Wall Street Journal article, the average age that Americans stop feeling young is 43. Unless God spares us, most of us will experience aging. Does the Bible have anything to say about this process? In Ecclesiastes 11 and 12, the Preacher addresses this, providing a word to the older, a word to the younger, and a word about aging. Voice From Heaven
Lesson of the Day 66 - My happiness and my function are one with Clare

Voice From Heaven

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 7, 2023 57:10

My happiness and my function are one. You have surely noticed an emphasis throughout our recent lessons on the connection between fulfilling your function and achieving happiness. This is because you do not really see the connection. Yet there is more than just a connection between them; they are the same. Their forms are different, but their content is completely one. The ego does constant battle with the Holy Spirit on the fundamental question of what your function is. So does it do constant battle with the Holy Spirit about what your happiness is. It is not a two-way battle. The ego attacks and the Holy Spirit does not respond. He knows what your function is. He knows that it is your happiness. Today we will try to go past this wholly meaningless battle and arrive at the truth about your function. We will not engage in senseless arguments about what it is. We will not become hopelessly involved in defining happiness and determining the means for achieving it. We will not indulge the ego by listening to its attacks on truth. We will merely be glad that we can find out what truth is. Our longer practice period today has as its purpose your acceptance of the fact that not only is there a very real connection between the function God gave you and your happiness, but that they are actually identical. God gives you only happiness. Therefore, the function He gave you must be happiness, even if it appears to be different. Today's exercises are an attempt to go beyond these differences in appearance, and recognize a common content where it exists in truth. Begin the ten-to-fifteen-minute practice period by reviewing these thoughts: God gives me only happiness. He has given my function to me. Therefore my function must be happiness. Try to see the logic in this sequence, even if you do not yet accept the conclusion. There are no other guides but these to choose between, and no other outcomes possible as a result of your choice but the fear that the ego always engenders, and the love that the Holy Spirit always offers to replace it. Thus, it must be that your function is established by God through His Voice, or is made by the ego which you have made to replace Him. Which is true? Unless God gave your function to you, it must be the gift of the ego. Does the ego really have gifts to give, being itself an illusion and offering only the illusion of gifts? Think about this during the longer practice period today. Let us try today to realize that only the truth is true. In the shorter practice periods, which would be most helpful today if undertaken twice an hour, this form of the application is suggested: My happiness and function are one, because God has given me both. It will not take more than a minute, and probably less, to repeat these words slowly and think about them a little while as you say them.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 66

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 6th of December, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“…but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”Daniel 11:32“If God is for us, who can be against us?”Romans 8:31John Wesley, the great revivalist said, and I quote, “Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils, but if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Oh be not weary of well-doing.” Said by a man who was totally castigated, he was mocked, scorned and beaten. He paid a tremendous price for his faith in Jesus Christ, but he persevered, and he came through at the end. How many more can we say that happened to?What about men of the calibre of George Whitfield? George Whitfield one of the greatest orators of Christianity, stood in front of crowds of 30,000 people. Some loved him, some hated him. I have seen photo illustrations of men standing next to him while he is preaching, with side drums, playing the drums to try and keep him quiet. Men let off pistols right by his ear, almost singeing his hair but he kept on preaching. We need to understand that when we stand up for Christ we must be prepared to take a lot of criticism, and even a lot of pain and suffering, but at the end of all of that, oh folks, I want to tell you, there is nothing else worth living for than seeing people come to Christ, lives changed forever.Today, stand up and remember the Lord is with you and it doesn't matter what men say.If Christ is for you and there is no man that will ever stand against you. Jesus bless you and goodbye.

Stolen Elections Have Consequences

They say "elections have consequences." This is true. But when elections are stolen, there needs to be much worse consequences for those who stole it. Unfortunately, the theft of the 2022 election appears to be headed in the same direction as the stolen 2020 election. We will continue to fight to get the truth out, to hold people accountable, and to reverse the results of the many stolen elections this cycle, but I'm not exactly hopeful. Unless God intervenes, I'd put our chances of changing any election at about 5%.We're still trying. We had some good news the last couple of days with many people reaching out following my interview with Leo Donofrio. Arizona is a hotbed for some of the worst voter fraud that took place this election and the pathway he described might be the best one I've heard so far. Various candidate representatives have reached out, as well as independent attorneys and concerned citizens. I'll update on that front as soon as more information is known. We can point at Democrats, election officials, RINOs, and foreign players and try to bring about the appropriate consequences, but one of the things I am going to focus on is holding conservative and alternative media accountable. There are far too many who are trying to blame the failed red tsunami on anything OTHER THAN massive, widespread voter fraud. This is unacceptable. I'm not just talking about Fox News or Newsmax. I'm referring to other small, medium, and large conservative outlets and individual journalists who are either in denial (doubtful), being bullied (probable), or getting otherwise coerced (possible) into blaming this on abortion, MAGA, student debt relief, or any other reason. The elections were stolen. Period. I'll keep hammering that point home even if it gets me canceled even more than I've already been thus far.The reason many of the heroes of conservative media are unwilling to say the elections we stolen is because doing so can get them blacklisted by the Big Tech platforms they're beholden to for popularity or profit. Anyone who has a popular YouTube channel, radio show, Facebook page, or who relies on Google ads or Facebook traffic has been told to NOT say "stolen elections." They cannot call out massive, widespread voter fraud as the singular cause of the feeble red droplet that replaced the red tsunami. On today's episode of The JD Rucker Show, I dove into why and how conservative media outlets are ignoring the truth. They're gaslighting us for a wide variety of reasons, not the least of which is that many are in bed with the Republican Establishment. People like Mitch McConnell and his cronies did not want a red tsunami unless they had fellow RINOs as the winning candidates. They wanted the status quo of the Uniparty Swamp and that means more of what we've been seeing the last two years.I also spoke to Ira Bershatsky, Our Gold Guy, about what all this means for the future of the economy.I concluded by explaining why I am accelerating Discern.tv. The intention was to launch it on Roku and other television platforms early next year. That intention was based on my naïve assumption that there would be a significant red wave if not a full-blown red tsunami. Now that we are sitting in a red puddle and watching most in conservative media already changing the subject to 2024, I'm moving up my timeline to this week or next for launch. It won't be on the television networks, but the site is necessary to get the ball rolling for disseminating the truth. We're at war. Or to be more accurate, the powers-that-be are at war with us. Until conservative influencers acknowledge this, we'll keep bringing pebbles to a nuclear battle. The powers-that-be are playing for keeps while most in conservative media are playing for pageviews and profits.
