On Feb 19, 1984, 11-year-old Jody Plauche was abducted from his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. What was seemingly unique about this abduction is that Jody was not abducted kicking and screaming. He willingly and knowingly went with his abductor, Jeff Doucet. Talking to Jody Plauche This is video feed from our live interview we did with child abuse survivor, Jody Plauche. Jody was kidnapped and abused by his karate instructor, Jeff Doucet, in 1984. Jeff had taken Jody to California where he would be abused by Jeff. Police searched the country for Jody, he was found after Doucet allowed the boy to place a collect call to his mother from the motel. On March 16, 1984, Doucet was flown back to Louisiana to face trial. Doucet arrived at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, and was led in handcuffs by police officers through the airport at around 9:30 p.m., where Gary Plauché, Jody's father was waiting for Doucet with a handgun. As Doucet was escorted through the airport, Gary fired a shot point blank, hitting Jeff close to his right ear. The infamous video of Jeff being shot, can be seen on Youtube. Plauché was originally charged with second-degree murder, but agreed to a plea bargain in which he pleaded no contest to manslaughter. Leon Gary Plauché was an American man known for publicly killing Jeff Doucet, a child molester who had kidnapped and raped Plauché's son, Jody. The killing occurred by use of a revolver on March 16, 1984, and was captured on camera by a local news crew. In 1984 at age 11, Jody Plauché was abducted from his home in Baton Rouge by his karate teacher, Jeff Doucet, and was taken to California. Jody's case then made headlines when his father, Gary Plauché, shot Jeff on live TV as he was being escorted off a plane to face criminal charges relating to child molestation. Jody went on to pursue a life of activism against sexual assault. Most recently, he has written a book Why, Gary, Why?: The Jody Plauché Story, which instructs parents on how to better protect their children and themselves from the hallmarks of grooming behavior. The title of his book is a reference to what law enforcement said to Gary (Jody's father) on camera after the shooting of Jeff (Jody's abuser). Jody Plauche', from Baton Rouge, LA., made national headlines in March of 1984 when he was abducted by his karate teacher, Jeff Doucet. During this awful abduction, Jody was taken 2,000 miles away from his home to Los Angeles, CA. FBI officials were eventually able to rescue Jody and arrest his abductor, Jeff Doucet. After medical exams were performed on Jody, it was determined that he was sexually assaulted by Jeff. After learning this horrible news, Jody's father, Gary Plauche', learned the specifics of when the abductor, Jeff, was going to be brought back to Baton Rouge, LA. Gary strategically placed himself at a bank of payphones and as Jeff and the FBI agents walked by him, he fired a single, shot at point blank range striking Jeff in the head eventually leading to his death the next day. The shooting was captured by WBRZ news crew, a local ABC affiliate. Gary was given a 7-year suspended sentence and was never ordered to serve jail time. To so many, Gary is considered a hero. His son, Jody Plauche', has now written a book titled Why Gary Why? detailing this difficult experience. Despite this life-altering incident, Jody went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree in General Studies from Louisiana State University with minors in Psychology, Speech Communications, and Philosophy. Jody has worked in the field of violence prevention since 1995. While attending Louisiana State University, he served on the executive board for Men Against Violence, a campus organization aimed at preventing campus violence, including sexual assault and other physical violence. On February 14, 1984 Jody was kidnapped by his karate instructor, Jeff Doucet. Doucet kidnapped Jody and took him to a motel in Anaheim, California, where he sexually assaulted and molested him. Police searched the country for Jody, and he was eventually found after Doucet allowed the boy to place a collect call to his mother from the motel. On March 16, 1984, Doucet was flown back to Louisiana to face trial. Doucet arrived at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, also known as Ryan Field, and was led in handcuffs by police officers through the airport at around 9:30 p.m., where Gary Plauché, Jody's father was waiting for Doucet with a handgun. As Doucet was escorted through the airport, he passed the news crew who were taping the scene. He then walked past Plauché, who took out his handgun and fired a single shot, directly at the right side of Doucet's head, at point-blank range. Doucet fell into a coma, and died from the gunshot wound the next day. Plauché was initially charged with second-degree murder, but agreed to a plea bargain in which he pleaded no contest to manslaughter. He was sentenced to seven years' suspended sentence, with five years' probation and 300 hours of community service, which he completed in 1989. Gary Plauuche was a typical family man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before his world was rocked.  His youngest son was kidnapped.  By family friend and trusted martial arts instructor Jeff Doucet.  After a nationwide manhunt that lasted 10 days, Jody was found with Jeff in a motel room just outside of Disneyland.  Jeff was arrest, Jody returned home, but that's just where our story begins.  This week, we ask some very tough questions about the role of the criminal justice system and if murder is ever justified.

Gary, why?” seconds after television cameras recorded Gary shooting and killing karate instructor Jeff Doucet, who had raped, molested, and kidnapped Gary's son Jody. Now, thirty-five years later, Jody Plauché answers the deputy's question on behalf of his late father and explores the story of his molestation, kidnapping, and survival. He unveils the sly tactics that child predators often use so that he can better inform parents of the potential signs that a person might harm their child.
