This week, I am creating The Ultimate Mixtape by asking 65 different people (previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show & the amazing Patreon Mixtapers) the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why? Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective! At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!! This ep. Includes the second collection of 20 responses! Be sure to check out Vol. 1 and stay tuned for Vol. 3 to get the full experience! Guests appearing in Vol. 2 (in no particular order): Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon, ZZ Ward, Jesse Dayton, Jon Loree of Tantric & Smile Empty Soul, Jamie DiTringo of The Sees, Jim Santora, Author of The Underrated Rock Book, Sherry Thomas of The Aquarian Magazine, Leah Jones of The Struts Life, Alex Gomez of The Sleevie G. On this episode of March Forth with Mike Bauman, Mike chats with Lane Steele of Worldwide Panic! Based in Los Angeles, Worldwide Panic is a hard rock/alternative metal band that formed in 2016. Over the years, the band has put the work in and built their audience through touring with the likes of Flaw, Smile Empty Soul, Mushroomhead, and The Convalescence. In 2023, Worldwide Panic dropped their self-title debut LP. Mastered by Chris "Zeuss" Harris (Hatebreed, Rob Zombie, Shadows Fall, Demon Hunter), the album produced heavy hitters like "Burn Letter" and "Another Side of Me," as well as the Active Rock Radio charting singles "I Tried" and "Falling Apart." On November 1st, 2024, Worldwide Panic released "Break Me Down," the first single off their forthcoming album The Greatest Villain The World Has Even Seen. Join me, Jason LaChance, host of the @KnockinDoorzDown podcast, certified addiction recovery coach, and mental health advocate for my sit down with Stephen Piazza @stephenpiazza4424 . Born in Northern California (San Jose), Stephen grew up in a strong Christian faith-based family. It was not uncommon for the Piazza family to be at church two and three times a week. In 1989, the Piazza family relocated to the Central Valley (Modesto). As a freshman, Stephen realized that music was becoming a passion in his life. In the late 90's Stephen joined a cover band called Second Avenue which played up and down the Central Valley for 2 years. In 2003, he joined a band called “Five Star Rising” which was signed to a management team, Chris Ricci Presents LLC, in late 2004. Local successes included: Winner of Battle of the Bands (opened for Spin Doctors) Opened for national acts who toured the Modesto area, such as Crossfade, Lit, Blue Oyster Cult, Vanilla Ice, Great White, Smile Empty Soul, The Calling, Third Eye Blind, and others. In 2009, Stephen was signed to an independent record label called “Big Time Records” with a band called “Dazeafter”. “Dazeafter” opened for other bands and had a hit remake of the song “Turn Up the Radio” which played for 3 months on rock stations throughout the nation. In 2014, Stephen produced a single called “Amanda's Web” as a solo artist under Steven Robb. “Amanda's Web” won a video and song contest for a magazine called Coast 2 Coast out of Miami, Florida. Stephen had fallen away from his roots as a Christian throughout the years. However, on June 12, 2020, Stephen had a near-death experience that changed his life. He had an encounter with Jesus in a hotel room in Reno and rededicated his life to God. He is now a Christian recording artist, singing for the One who gave him a second chance. His songs like “Washed Away” and “Set Free” share his story with the world of what JESUS did in his life and pray that the lyrics will point those who are battling with addiction or bondage to the One who can truly set them free. The message of his songs is meant to assure those who are seeking deliverance, that they are not ALONE! There is a God that will walk closer than a brother and carry them through their darkest days Stephen and I discuss the following and more. Intro 0:00 What was Stephen's upbringing and how did his path to substance abuse begin? 4:50 I lived the Rock N Roll Life. I could have joined the 27 Club with Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin & Kurt Cobain 11:10 What does Stephen see, when driving people to the methadone clinic? 26:46 Stephen respects that so many rockstars got sober and shared their journey 35:00 How did Stephen's faith lead him back to music & becoming a Christian artist? 44:00 This is Stephen Piazza Knockin' Doorz Down. Josh from Dark Below sat down for chat about the bands newest single Tense. Dark Below is a hard-hitting heavy rock band that brings intense energy in their music and live performances while providing rhythmic songs that people can sing along to. Formed in Columbia, MO, the band signed with Nashville based JPS Productions in 2014. The current lineup has been together since 2016 and includes Josh Campbell (Guitar/Vocals), Josh Grove (Bass/Backing Vocals), and Quin Koldan (Drums). New single “Tense” was produced by Jason Schrick and award-winning producer Malcolm Springer (Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, Fear Factory). After years of preparation, the band is ready to vault to the national scene and beyond. Explaining the genesis of “Tense” Campbell says “The song is about health anxiety/hypochondria and describes the feelings and struggles that are associated with the condition. We want people to know it's OK not to be OK, and that we all have periods of stress, doubt and worry. We're lucky to have this creative outlet of music to help express those emotions and we hope it resonates with fans”. Dark Below came together from a Craigslist post that Josh Campbell made in search of musicians for a hard rock band. Josh Grove was friends with the band members and was hanging out a rehearsal one day. Grove was a guitarist – but after hearing Campbell and the original drummer talking about needing a bass player, he volunteered to give it a go. Campbell says “I didn't really want to sing originally but we couldn't find anyone, so with me singing and playing guitar, Grove on bass, and the original drummer we started playing shows in the Columbia area”. After the original drummer left the band, Quin Koldan joined in 2016 to solidify the current lineup. The band has previously released their self-titled EP in 2017, and the single “Halo” in 2019. They have toured for the past 5 years, opening for Buckcherry, Saliva, Pop Evil, Smile Empty Soul, The Veer Union, and more. A new full-length album is currently being recorded, which is also being produced by Schrick and Springer. The band is currently booking dates to begin playing live to support the new music in the fall.
