Yüce Allâh, Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'i hak üzere göndermiş, O (s.a.v.)'e Kur'ân-ı Kerîm'ini indirmiş ve bu Kitâbı muhâfaza etmeyi garanti ettiğini bildirmiştir. Nitekim Yüce Allâh bu konuda şöyle der: “Kur'ân'ı kesinlikle biz indirdik; elbette onu yine biz koruyacağız.” (Hicr s. 9) Yine Yüce Allâh, Resûlü Hz.Peygamber (s.a.v.)'i, dînini ve Kitâbı'nı açıklamakla görevlendirmiştir. Nitekim bu husûsta Allâhü Teâlâ “İnsanlara kendilerine indirileni açıklaman için ve düşünüp anlasınlar diye sana da bu Kur'ân'ı indirdik.” (Nahl s. 44) buyurmaktadır. Yüce Allâh, Peygamber (s.a.v.)'i, açıklamakla görevlendirdiği husûsları açıklamak üzere ümmeti içinde belli bir süre bırakmış, sonra da O (s.a.v.)'i ve ümmetini apaçık bir yol üzere bırakmış olarak kendi râhmetine almıştır. Artık müslümanlar, herhangi bir olayla karşılaştıklarında Allâh (c.c.)'un Kitâbı'nda ve Peygamberi (s.a.v.)'in sünnetinde o olayın açıklamasını ya açıktan açığa veya delâlet yoluyla bulacaklardır. Yüce Allâh, her asırda Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.)'in ümmeti arasından İslâm'ı açıklayan,ümmeti için muhâfaza eden ve bid‘atı ondan uzak kılan âlimler çıkarmıştır. Nitekim Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) “Bu ilme her nesilden onların âdil olanları vâris olur. Bunlar, aşırıların tahrîfini, haksızların haksız isnâdlarını ve câhillerin te'vîlini ilimden uzak ederler” (Beyhakî) buyurmuştur. Bu haber, sahâbe döneminden günümüze kadar her asırda doğru çıkmıştır. Her çağda sünnetin râvîlerini tanıyan belli bir topluluk mevcûd olmuş, cerh ve ta‘dîl açısından onların durumlarına vâkıf olmuş, durumlarını beyân etmiş ve bunları kitaplarda zikretmişlerdir.(Muhammed Abdurreşid En-Nûmanî, İmâm-ı Azam Ebû Hanîfe (r.a.)'in Hadis İlmindeki Yeri, s.27-28)
