Today we're talking polarization.I'm not talking about the bears, Santa Claus, or the state of global politics. Rather something a bit more anodyne, and seasonally appropriate, cool shades! You may have heard of the many benefits of polarized sunglasses, how they reduce glare, let you see through the surface of water, or make it easier to drive. But why? How? Where to find? There isn't that much technical information for consumers explaining how they work or the very different quality of materials they can be made from. But listen on and you'll soon be an expert on all things polarized!SerengetiShinzo TamuraAmerican OpticalRandolph EngineeringIf you have any questions, comments, concerns, want to suggest a topic or pump your favorite sunglasses, drop us a line at blowout@heddels.comToday's episode featured writing from “Polarized Sunglasses - How do they Work” by yours truly, “Randolph Engineering — History, Philosophy, and Iconic Products” by Albert Muzquiz, and “American Optical – History, Philosophy, and Iconic Products” by John Bobey all on Heddels.com and the production talents of Sean Thornton with theme music by Andrew Ryan.

In 2 Corinthians 3:6-11, Paul says, “The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” The “letter” refers to God's law—His perfect standard—which shows us His glory but also our inability to keep it. It's like trying to look at the sun with broken sunglasses: you can't do it. The law can't save us; it only exposes our need. But through Jesus, we receive the Spirit, who gives us His righteousness—His “good enough”—so we can see and enjoy God's glory now and forever. The temptation is to live as if we can be good enough on our own or hold others to our personal standard. Both lead to death. The invitation is to turn from self-reliance and trust Jesus daily, allowing His Spirit to restore our relationships with God, ourselves, and others.

In this episode of iCantCU, I talk about the new Oakley Meta smartglasses and why, despite the hype, I'm holding off for now. The camera's not centered like I'd hoped, and they still only shoot vertical video—great if you're all-in on Instagram, not so much for YouTube. The recording time is a win, though: 30 minutes vs. just three on the Ray-Bans. But if the Oakleys don't wrap around like my standard pair (which helps with glare), I'm probably not interested—unless they start shooting horizontal video. I also dive into my trip to New Orleans for the NFB national convention. Let's just say the travel there started with a missing wallet and at the convention, almost everything that could go wrong, did—from tech issues to accessibility frustrations to a basement flood back home. There's also a PSA for allies: if you're helping someone blind or low vision, ask before jumping in. Don't assume. And don't hand my boarding pass to someone else. Finally, we're selling raffle tickets to fund the NFB of PA scholarship program. $5 could win you up to $100—and helps students who need it. An episode that is not about inflexibility—it's about emotional safety, sensory regulation, and being authentically ourselves in a world that often feels chaotic! In Episode 147 of The Autistic Culture Podcast, Dr. Angela Kingdon explores Pillar 8 of Autistic Culture: Predictably Comforting, with special guest Daria Brown, author of We Chose Play: Raising an Autistic Child to Thrive and Feel Understood.Daria Brown has a Master's degree in Personality and Social Psychology. She has worked in the field of research, evaluation, and education for over 30 years at universities, not-for-profits, and government.Together, they discuss why predictability, routine, and familiarity are not only comforting but essential in autistic lives. This episode is especially meaningful for autistic listeners, families, and advocates who want to gain a deeper understanding of why consistency matters so deeply in autistic culture. Here's what defines this core Autistic trait:* Autistic Brains Crave PredictabilityOur nervous systems seek regulation over novelty. Familiar patterns reduce overwhelm and foster inner peace.* Routine as Emotional SafetyAutistic routines—like watching the same show, eating familiar foods, or repeating daily rituals—aren't rigid. They're tools for stability, helping manage emotional and sensory overload.* Cultural Examples of Comforting Predictability* Thomas the Tank Engine's structured stories* Dino Nuggets' consistent texture and taste* Andy Warhol's daily green underwear and soup-can art* Repetition as a Strength, Not a SymptomFrom stimming to re-watching favorite shows, repetition brings grounding comfort. It supports emotional regulation and fosters creativity.

Julie De Angulo is the VP of Ecommerce and Digital at Bajio Sunglasses, a premium polarized fishing eyewear brand purpose-built for serious anglers, from saltwater flats to bass tournaments. Bajio combines Patent Pending LAPIS lens technology with hyper-targeted storytelling to serve one of the most gear-obsessed subcultures in outdoor retail. Julie leads the charge in turning that product obsession into a scalable digital channel, anchored in retention, merchandising, and cultural fluency. Before joining Bajio, Julie spent nearly two decades in Ecommerce and digital marketing, scaling brands across home goods, pet supplements, fashion, and accessories. Her background in mass communications gave her a sharp instinct for message-market fit, one she's since sharpened into a full-funnel skillset spanning email, SMS, SEO, and paid acquisition. At Bajio, she joined when the brand had little to no Ecommerce presence, and has since built a high-performing revenue channel from the ground up.Whether breaking down how to tell product stories that resonate with niche audiences, mapping customer journeys from first click to long-term loyalty, or translating brand values into conversion-focused creative, Julie brings a tactical yet brand-led perspective to Ecommerce strategy. In December of 1993, Officer Martin Ganz was on patrol when he pulled over a car for a traffic violation. As he went to make contact with the driver, shots rang out, and as Officer Ganz tried to retreat, the driver followed him, executing him behind his police cruiser. An investigation followed, and although investigators were certain they had the right man, a lack of evidence prevented an arrest from being made. A few months later though, the man struck again, and justice was finally found in the murder of Officer Martin Ganz. Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here!
