Happy Halloween! For Halloween this year, we have invited author / screenwriter Joe Ballarini to join us. His series The Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting released book 3 in July and a film is currently in production at Netflix. He talks about the writing process, what it's like to adapt a book into a screenplay and his future feud with RL Stein. (Note: The Give Me Five Podcast will 100% be the reason for said feud) He also joins us for our review of 1987's Monster Squad. A favorite movie of ours and his. For once it was nice to have someone join us who actually knows what he's talking about, although I think there were still a few fart jokes. There are two questions of the week. For Joe- What media franchises would you love to write for? For US- Who are the 5 best Draculas Remember if you use our link (https://amzn.to/2KxR8OU) we get a little bit of money towards server costs at no extra cost to you. Author, Joe Ballarini is back for round 2. The Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting book 2 Freaks and Geeks is out now, and he popped by to chat about it, his screenplays, and how far along the Babysitter's Guide Netflix show is coming. We learned a lot about what it's like to pitch story ideas in Hollywood and how quickly a dog wrestling movie can be perceived as a dog fighting movie. We even revisited some of Joe's past work, like cult classic zombie prom movie, Dance With The Dead. We also break down the original houses from Halloween Horror Nights Orlando, including Seeds of Destruction, Slaughter Sinema, Carnival Graveyard, Scary Tales: Deadly Ever After and Dead Exposure. The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia
For our last episode of the Halloween season, we got author and filmwriter Joe Ballarini (Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting, My Little Pony: The Movie) to chat with us about his book and career. Plenty of nostalgia, mixed in with good advice for writers. (we try to be trivial, sometimes we fail) There's no regular "five" in this one, just a bunch of chat about following one's dreams across the country and kicking werewolves in the crotch. We also do an abstract reenactment of much of The Lost Boys. Stick around for the question: What are some fun family friendly things to do with your kids for Halloween? Feel free to chime in at givemefivepodcast@gmail.com or at our Facebook Page : https://www.facebook.com/givemefivepodcast/ Opening theme Special thanks to The Midnight for the use of their song Vampires (instrumental version) Their albums can be purchased here: The Midnight on Bandcamp

Funny work-from-home dads and best friends Joe Ballarini and Adam Sztykiel (my husband) riff on how fatherhood has changed them, how much us moms scare them, and how they’d man-handle the apocalypse (God help us all!). We share Sabrina’s latest antics (!!!), the dads’ opposing views on “maternal gatekeeping”, marriage after kids, Joe's epic Dad-urdays with his adorable, half British baby Theo, and what they hope to remember most about these intense early years of parenting. We also talk about the inception of Joe's brand new middle grade novel series, A BABYSITTER’S GUIDE TO MONSTER HUNTING (published by fancy pants Harper Collins), the first of which will be released this June. Expect to see it in theaters as well, as Montecito Picture Company and Walden Films are producing Ballarini's film adaptation. I’m so proud to report that it has fantastically written, funny, and super empowered female leads (#girlpower!), and I cannot wait for Sabrina to be old enough to read it.
