" Main interests in the recording? Bugs, noise, frogs. Distractions? Noise, footsteps, dogs, masking. Filtered footsteps, and dogs. There are two main frog sounds that appear late in the recording. 3:30-3:45. The first 2 sounds were used as a kind of time keeper. the nest 6 sounds made a series and were used as themselves and also processed to make the midrange drone phrases. The low drone is a low chord synth. The bell is a Japanese temple bell. 1600-7000 hrz is where the bugs/frogs live and what a swarm! (lol) A bit of filtering brought them down to a workable chorus of a dozen or so." Thailand frog sounds reimagined by Joel Graham. SIGNS OF THE SWARM, hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American deathcore band that came together in 2014. The group is made up of drummer Bobby Crow, vocalist David Simonich, guitarist Carl Schulz, and bassist Michael Cassese. Over the years, they have delivered four compelling studio albums, with their bludgeoning fifth album, titled "Amongst the Low & Empty," hitting shelves on July 28, 2023, via Century Media Records. In the podcast, David discusses the band's being signed by Century Media, the personal pain and struggles which fueled some of the album's brutal tracks, the upcoming tour with CARNIFEX and much more. Formed in 2004 in Huddersfield, England, EVILE is a prominent thrash metal band with a rich history of line-up changes. Amidst these shifts, drummer Ben Carter has been the sole constant member from the original formation. Presently, the band's lineup includes Carter, the talented lead guitarist and vocalist Ol Drake, bassist Joel Graham, and rhythm guitarist Adam Smith, who took over from Ol Drake's older brother Matt in 2020. EVILE holds a significant place in the thrash metal resurgence of the mid-to-late 2000s, earning high praise from Kerrang! for shouldering the genre's revival. Their impressive discography boasts six studio albums: "Enter the Grave" (2007), "Infected Nations" (2009), "Five Serpent's Teeth" (2011), "Skull" (2013), "Hell Unleashed" (2021), and the recently released "The Unknown" (2023). During the second part of the show, Ol Drake joins us to discuss their latest LP "The Unknown", working with famed METALLICA producer Flemming Rasmussen and the significance of thrash metal as a genre.
"When I first listened to this recording, my first thought was what a dull place to live. Upon further investigation a whole "mini" world opened to my ears. The first manipulation of the sound was to speed it up 8x the original recording, this in turn reduced the recording from 60 sec. to about 6 sec. but exposed a whales phrase (I think) and some chatter (I think) like sounds. "I extracted a set of sounds (4), all the sounds you hear are from the original source material with the exception of "Brownian Noise" added by me. Many years ago I developed an idea of isolating nature or natural sounds in recordings and devising ways of "re assembly" into a generative "nature" environment. I call this idea "AmbiGen" for Ambience Generation. It was to this idea that I applied the sounds extracted from Sound #003. "I used six asynchronous clocks to trigger the sounds with random changes in pitch/time. This led me to investigate "ocean noise" which in this case I read of human caused sounds such as ships, submarines, explosions, subsonic communications. These sounds among others can misdirect migrations and interfere with the habits of all kinds of species (antarctia.gov.au). I did not use any of these sounds." Blue whale reimagined by Joel Graham. "The Vale of Health pond apparently is a drained marsh area called Hatches bottom (of questionable repute) circa 1770. So I cleaned up the recording and thought about how the people hoped a name change would bring people to recreate and live. In the 1800s it became a hotspot for writers and such so I introduced some tone but not enough to cover the whole pond. In 1973 a committee was set up to restrict inappropriate development, so I introduced the idea of whales floating across the sky while people listening to the sounds are on the bank, fishing." No tenemos palabras.

Mandalay street corner reimagined by Joel Graham. "After listening a couple times, the motor bike (i think) seem to purr like a tiger to me. I bandpassed the upper frequencies to create animal and bird sounds. I added a track of regular bird song(my recording) to humanize (birdize?) the artifacts left from the filtering process. I used the whole original recording."

Sam Jaeger’s inherent talent and carefully selected roles have him poised to arrive as a major leading man in Hollywood. Jaeger could most recently seen in the second season of the television show “Eli Stone.” Jaeger played Dennis in the feature film “Catch & Release,” also starring Jennifer Garner and Kevin Smith. Additionally, Jaeger has such credits as the TV movie “The Riverman,” opposite Carey Elwes and Bruce Greenwood and the indy hit “Lucky Number Slevin” opposite Bruce Willis and Josh Hartnett. “Slevin” was seen at Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and opened nationally to critical acclaim. Recently, Jaeger wrapped production on his feature directorial debut, “Take Me Home,” which he wrote, directed and starred in along with Amber Jaeger, Victor Garber and Bree Turner. Jaeger began his professional career in New York while attending college, landing a guest-starring role on “Law & Order.” He also spent several seasons doing theater in New York before making the move to Los Angeles. The first of which, “Quiz Bowl,” caught the eye of actress Kate Bosworth who later agreed to star in his next short, “Advantage Hart.” “Hart” had its premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival and then toured on the film festival circuit.
