This week Dcn. Harrison Garlick and Mr. Eli Stone, formerly of the TU Great Books Honors College and now teaching at a classical school, discuss Book VIII of the Odyssey: A Day for Songs and Contests. We have a 50+ page guide to the Odyssey.Visit thegreatbookspodcast.com for more resources. From the guide:42. What happens in book eight?King Alcinous and Odysseus go to the meeting grounds, as Athena whips up the curiosity of the islanders to come and see the stranger who “looks like a deathless god” (8.16). King Alcinous, still not knowing the identity of his guest, calls for the Phaeacians to prepare a ship to take the stranger home (8.39), and he calls for a feast, a “hero's welcome” (8.49). As they feast, the bard sings the ballad of “The Strife between Odysseus and Achilles,” a tale from Troy, and Odysseus quietly weeps—unnoticed by all save King Alcinous (8.111). King Alcinous then calls for games, and the young men gather to race, wrestle, box, and throw a discus (8.140). A man named “Broadsea” goads Odysseus into competing, and Odysseus, in his anger, throws a heavy discus farther than any of them (8.116). As a good host, King Alcinous deescalates the situation (8.267), and calls for the Phaeacians to dance (8.284).The bard returns and sings of the story of Aphrodite's adultery against Hephaestus (8.301). King Alcinous calls for parting gifts for Odysseus, and Broadsea gives the King of Ithaca a bronze sword in amends for his disrespect (8.441). Another feast is held, and Odysseus asks the bard to sing of the wooden horse at Troy (8.552). Odysseus again weeps quietly (8.586), and King Alcinous again notices (8.599). The book ends with the King finally asking Odysseus to reveal his name and his homeland (8.618).[1] 43. Why does Homer include the myth of Aphrodite's adultery?Homer dedicates over one hundred lines of poetry to tell the story of “The Love of Ares and Aphrodite Crowned with Flowers” (8.301). First, one may note a shift in the mythology, as Hephaestus was married to a Grace in the Iliad and is now married to Aphrodite in the Odyssey. A myth about adultery in the Odyssey recalls several narratives: the story of Clytemnestra, (Agamemnon's wife), the narrative of Odysseus with Calypso, and the suitors pursuing Penelope. In a subtle manner, Homer is likely presenting Hephaestus as Odysseus. Notice that that Odysseus mentions his legs are in poor shape, and he cannot race against the Phaeacians (8.260). Odysseus' poor legs are analogous to the crippled legs of Hephaestus; moreover, Hephaestus is compared to Ares who has “racer's legs,” like the Phaeacians (8.352). Homer describes Hephaestus overcoming Ares as the “slow outstrips the swift” (8.372) and “the cripple wins by craft” (8.375). If one takes Aphrodite to be Penelope, the myth is a warning to Odysseus that he will overcome the suitors not by swiftness but by craft. Similarly, one could read Aphrodite as Nausicaa and Ares as the Phaeacians; thus, we return to a narrative of Nausicaa being a temptation for Odysseus—but a temptation he could indulge if done by wit and craft. The myth presents certain analogues to Odysseus' present situation but seems to fall short of presenting a full allegory.[1] Thank you to Mr. Eli Stone who joined us on the podcast to discuss Book 8.
This week Dcn. Garlick and Mr. Eli Stone discuss Book Seven of the Odyssey: Phaeacia's Halls and Gardens.Check out thegreatbookspodcast.com for more resources. FROM THE GUIDE:36. What happens in book seven?Athena hides Odysseus in a mist and leads him, in the guise of a child, toward the palace (7.17). She reiterates the advice of Nausicaa by telling Odysseus to go to Queen Arete (7.61). Odysseus enters the magnificent palace and throws his arms around the queen's knees, as Athena withdraws her mist (7.168). Odysseus pleads for mercy and then falls into the ashes underneath the hearth (7.182). All are silent until the old man Echeneus cries out for his king to welcome the stranger (7.185), and King Alcinous, spurred by his subject, welcomes Odysseus with food and drink (7.199). Without asking Odysseus' name or where he is from, the king convenes the evening and calls for an assembly in the morning to help the stranger return home (7.221).Queen Arete takes Odysseus to his lodgings and is the first to question him about his name and homeland—and where he received his clothes (7.272). Odysseus gives a long answer that finally lands at stating that his clothes are from Nausicaa (7.340). King Alcinous reassures Odysseus that he'll provide a passage home—but also states he could stay and marry Nausicaa (7.353). Odysseus reiterates his desire to return home (7.379), and the book ends with Odysseus finally finding rest in the house of King Alcinous (7.394). 37. What is to be made of King Alcinous' offer to Odysseus to marry Nausicaa? Most notable in book seven is King Alcinous offering Nausicaa in marriage to Odysseus (7.358). The temptation of Nausicaa becomes explicit (Question 33). Note that both King Alcinous and Queen Arete are descendants of Poseidon (7.65), and that the gods come to the island openly due to the people being their “close kin” (7.241).[1] In addition to its divine favor, the island enjoys advanced technology, as the dogs outside King Alcinous' palace are automatons made by Hephaestus (7.106). The island is, in many ways, a utopia. Odysseus is being asked to restart his life amongst almost perfect mortal happiness. He would be grafted into a family of Poseidon's mortal descendants (which bears a certain irony given Poseidon's current wrath) and be married to a beautiful, clever princess, a young Penelope. The offer of King Alcinous is the more natural temptation than that of Calypso, because it is an offer that aligns with the nature of man and his desire for happiness.Notably, Odysseus never seems to acknowledge the offer, but simply expresses his gratitude again for the king's willingness to take him home (7.379). To what degree the king's offer has affected Odysseus is a question to keep in mind throughout the rest of the Odyssey.[1] Odyssey, 498, 508.
Dcn. Harrison Garlick and Adam Minihan are joined by Eli Stone, formerly of the TU Great Books Honors College and now with Holy Family Classical School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to discuss BOOK SIX of the Odyssey: The Princess and the Stranger. Check us out at thegreatbookspodcast.com.From the guide: 32. What happens in book six?Athena inspires Nausicaa, the daughter of King Alcinous, to go with her handmaids to the river and wash clothes (6.20). Her father grants her permission, and she takes a wagon of clothes to be washed (6.75). As she waits for the clothes to dry, she and her handmaids have a picnic out by the river (6.107). With a little influence from Athena, Odysseus awakes to the sound of the girls playing with a ball (6.130). Odysseus emerges naked, covering himself with a “leafy branch” (6.140)—“a terrible sight, all crusted, caked with brine” (6.151). All the women scatter save Nausicaa in whom Athena has planted courage (6.153). Odysseus tells the princess of his plight (6.163), and she welcomes him as a stranger sent from Zeus (6.227). To avoid scandal, Nausicaa instructs Odysseus on how to enter the city alone, find the queen, and grasp her knees (6.313). The books ends with Nausicaa leaving Odysseus in a sacred grove, and Odysseus praying to Athena (6.352).[1] 33. Is Nausicaa another temptation for Odysseus, like Calypso? The desire of Nausicaa to be married is a predominate theme in book six and seven. We see Athena state her marriage is “not far off” (6.30); we see Nausicaa be too shy to express her desire for marriage to her father (6.74), but her father sees through his daughter's coyness and confirms his supports her, i.e., “I won't deny you anything” (6.77); and we see Nausicaa, after seeing Odysseus glorified by Athena, say: “if only a man like that were called my husband” (6.270). Moreover, the princess is “still a virgin, unwed” (6.121) and compared to the virgin-goddess Artemis (6.113, 165). Her intuition and political savvy are displayed in the narrative of avoiding scandal and how to seek mercy from the queen (6.313). She is arguably presented as a young Penelope: beautiful and clever. The concern is that whereas Calypso represented an unnatural temptation (Question 29), Nausicaa will represent a very natural one for Odysseus. One may note that naked Odysseus emerging to speak to the young girls is presented in predatory language, e.g., “as a mountain lion exultant in his power…” hungry and stalking sheep (6.143). The opening predatory metaphor seemingly stands in contrast with Odysseus' restraint to not run and hug the knees of Nausicaa (6.161). The main principle of his opening speech to Nausicaa is presented in his earlier internal dialogue of whether the island inhabitants are savages or civilized persons (6.132). Guest-friendship is the sign and standard for civilization (6.133). Odysseus arguably mentions Artemis (6.165), Apollo's altar in Delos (6.178), the custom of grasping by the knees (6.185), and the need for he, as a stranger, to be welcomed (6.193) to see if she is civilized. Moreover, it also reveals that Odysseus—the strange man emerging from the bushes—is civilized himself.[2] If guest-friendship is the standard for civilization (6.133), then it is one Nausicaa responds to well in both speech and practice (6.227).Those who see Nausicaa as a temptation, point to Odysseus' flattery of her: “I have never laid eyes on anyone like...
Send us a Text Message.Introduction:Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good everything. How are you all doing? It's truly good to be back in this space. Before we dive in, I must ask, sincerely, how are you? I know it's been challenging for many of us. But you know, before I came on, I was reflecting on something. What a wonderful time to be alive. We're experiencing so much on Earth today. Everywhere you turn, there's this common thread, this human theme that weaves through our collective experience. And it's like we're all going through this phase together. So, how are you? I hope you're well.Topic Introduction:Today, I want to delve into a topic that has been on my mind for quite some time: the concept of tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow. We're all racing towards something, aren't we? It's like we're constantly chasing after this elusive future, this vision of tomorrow that seems just out of reach. And in the pursuit of this tomorrow, we often find our lives changing before our very eyes. We undergo transformations, sometimes without even realizing it until we look back and see how far we've come.Exploration of the Topic:So, who is the man who sees tomorrow? I'm not talking about some mystical seer or fortune teller. I'm talking about individuals who have a heightened sense of vision, an ability to see beyond the present moment and glimpse into the future. And I want to explore this idea through the lens of two stories from movies that have stuck with me.Storytelling:The first story comes from a series called Eli Stone. Eli, a lawyer with a unique gift of seeing the future, takes on cases that have a moral significance, often at the expense of his career. His ability to foresee events leads him to make decisions that ultimately shape the future for the better. In another movie, Nicholas Cage's character possesses the ability to see a few minutes into the future. However, his power becomes heightened when he enters into a deep relationship with someone. Through this partnership, he gains insights that extend far beyond mere moments, giving him a profound understanding of what lies ahead.Relating to a Higher Power:But seeing tomorrow isn't just about having a special gift or talent. It's about tapping into a deeper relationship, a connection to something greater than ourselves. In the Bible, Jesus spoke to his disciples about the importance of the Holy Spirit in shaping their future. He told them that their ability to impact the world depended on their relationship with the Spirit. Conclusion:So, when we talk about seeing tomorrow, it's not merely about being analytical or predictive. It's about having a relationship with the Holy Spirit, a connection that enables us to see beyond the limitations of our human understanding. Through this relationship, we can craft visions that transcend time and space, shaping a future that aligns with our deepest desires and aspirations.Support the Show. You can support this show via the link below;https://www.buzzsprout.com/1718587/supporters/new

Some of the best storytellers in the world led entire lives before getting into the writing business. Alexandra Billings — Pet PatrolDeborah Moncrief Bell speaks with Alexandra Billings is a transgender TV actor who rose to prominence in 2014 as one of the supporting stars of the Golden Globe-winning comedy "Transparent" (Amazon 2014- ). A native of Southern California, Billings was surrounded by stage and screen performers throughout childhood. Her father was the musical director at a famed opera house in Los Angeles, and as a child Billings would follow her dad to work and help out backstage. It was while working at the opera house that she was first exposed to such high-profile stars as Yul Brynner and Carol Burnett, which only heightened her growing interest in the theater. By the early 1980s, Billings relocated to Chicago and started appearing in beauty pageants. She quickly found that she had a knack for performing in front of a live audience, and started winning beauty contests throughout the Midwest and Florida. Also around this time, Billings began appearing in plays in various theaters throughout Chicago, in addition to performing her autobiographical show to sold out audiences throughout the country. By the early 2000s Billings' stage career was thriving, and it wasn't long before Hollywood came calling. After a couple supporting roles on TV series, Billings made history by becoming the first transgender woman to play a transgender character on TV. That role came on the 1995 made-for-TV movie, "Romy and Michelle: In the Beginning." From there, Billings landed numerous guest spots on TV shows like "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC, 2005- ) and the short-lived "Eli Stone" (ABC, 2008-09), before landing the part of the trans woman Davina on the first season of Amazon's "Transparent." The show was an immediate success, and won the Golden Globe for Best TV Comedy. Amazon renewed "Transparent" for a second season in late 2014, with Billings already slated to reprise her role as Davina. Guest: Alexandra BillingsThen, we speak with folks from Pet Patrol. The nation's first Pet Patrol for PWAs was launched in Houston in August 1987. Founder Tori Williams realized that pets are important to improving the lifestyle of PWAs, helping them avoid depression. And it is important to take away the concern that their pets will be cared for if the person has to go into the hospital, or cannot afford food and vet expenses. That this organization has surrived all these years, even after the AIDS crisis years, is a testament to the idea and its execution by a team of volunteers. The organization received its 501c3 incorporation in August 1989.Guest: Nicki Thorne-Thomsen
Oh boy, fellow Cryptids, do we have a treat for you today. Thanks to my typical Twitter shenanigans when I throw an idea out into the ether, this is my first interview with a "recovering attorney" turned creator. None other than Marc Guggenheim is on the podcast today to discuss lawyering, writing, Eli Stone, Arrow, comics and why Solo: A Star Wars Story is actually good. Marc talks about how he went from a courtroom to...well, another courtroom, but this one was on a sound stage. Plus we talk about his recent comics Last Flight Out, Han Solo & Chewbacca, Too Dead To Die: A Simon Cross Thriller, Fragmentation, and Torrent #1, which comes out February 15, 2023. If, after listening, you want more Marc Guggenheim (and who doesn't?) subscribe to his newsletter. Marc was a joy to interview, generous with his time, and this was a hell of a way to really kick off 2023. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Eli Stone is truly the cards against humanity of TV shows. It's about a Wall Street bro who gets a brain aneurysm that causes hallucinations of singer/songwriter George Michael, who then convinces Eli to become a religious prophet and take an anti-vaxxer stance against big pharma. We had no idea this show even existed, but our special guest, Tom Schenck, is still traumatized by it. Also included: we completely lose our minds while trying to figure out what color a fart is.

Today on What's My Frame? I'm joined by Actor, Director & Producer Jason George. You likely know Jason from playing Ben Warren on GREY'S ANATOMY & STATION 19 the last eleven years. Or from his work on ELI STONE, OFF THE MAP and MISTRESSES. When I started the podcast last Spring I knew Jason had to join us for an episode. I've had the joy of working with Jason for a number of years; and know first hand what a rare gem of an artist and human he is! He values and respects those he works with, brings the best out of his scene partners, volunteers countless hours to union service to help advocate for all voices within SAG-AFTRA and so much more. I don't say this lightly, having the opportunity to work with Jason and learn from his 20+ year career has changed my approach to acting. I'm so excited to share some of Jason's incredible insight with y'all! Today we dive into staying motivated, consistently moving the needle in our career. We discuss Jason's years of union service, how those challenging and often criticized decisions are made. And of course we talk about GREY'S, STATION and what it's like to be a part of Shondaland. In celebration of our 50th episode here at What's My Frame? Please join me in welcoming my very good friend and mentor Jason George to the show! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whats-my-frame/support

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 66th episode of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging nearly 2,900 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Providing Leverage," I was joined by Marc Bailey of the "Grailwolf's Geek Life" podcast via Facebook Rooms in celebrating the three-year anniversary of this podcast with a where-have-they-been conversation about Jossverse actors. First, however, I feature the pilot episode of "Leverage," titled "The Nigerian Job." In Cross Connections, I track Timothy Hutton, Mark Valley, Lily Tomlin, and track Michael O'Neill as a Golden Thread running throughout my media collection. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I talk about encountering the series finale of "Boston Legal," along with episodes of "The West Wing," "Eli Stone," "Fringe," a scrap of grid search and election night 2008 featuring John McCain's concession speech and President-Elect Barack Obama's Grant Park address. In my Direct-to-DVD Collection, I touch briefly on a second season episode from "Supernatural" featuring La Monde Byrd as blues musician Robert Johnson and introducing a crossroads demon, early proof-of-concept for Mark A. Sheppard's long-running Crowley character. I then transition to a wide-ranging conversation with Marc Bailey discussing Jossverse actors in such shows as "Angel," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Firefly," "Serenity," "Dollhouse," "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," "Seal Team," "Harley Quinn," "Powerless," "Miracles," "Point Pleasant," "Wonderfalls," "Dietland," "Castle," "Pearson," "The Crazy Ones," "Chance," "Tru Calling" and Joss Whedon's "Much Ado About Nothing," with comments touching on "Star Wars," Kenneth Branagh's "Murder on the Orient Express," remastering issues and spoiler etiquette.
On this episode, Patty Hawkins talks to Marc Guggenheim, who is a screenwriter, television producer, comic book writer, and novelist. He is best known as the creator of the television series Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, Eli Stone, as well as the writer of the feature films Green Lantern, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Marc’s comic book writing credits include Blade (with artist Howard Chaykin), The Flash, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Justice Society of America, among others.
This week we've got two pretty exciting shows. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (9:00) did a preview the first week of the year and we had to watch. Does it live up to the hype of other cool musical based shows? (Eli Stone and Crazy Ex- Girlfriend) Then a new entry to the Freeform Cinematic Universe: Everything's gonna be OK (35:20) . From an Australian comedian, A really unique show, that has an amazing cast of mostly unknowns, and just crushes. We're jealous Josh Thomas! All this plus cross overs and 30 second pitches!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 60th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Happy New ... What Year Is This Again?" I open with comments on recent celebrity deaths including Marie Fredriksson, Philip McKeon, Caroll Spinney, and under Cross Connections, a retrospective of René Auberjonois, highlighting his appearances on "Benson" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." I feature the appearance of the series premiere of ABC's "Life on Mars" in my collection, and include an expansive reflection of the connections I draw from that show through my formative media consumption, through "Barney Miller," "The Unusuals" and "Detroit 1-8-7" and potentially "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." In my Classic Collection, I talk about the series premiere of "Sanctuary," a Waco-themed episode of "Criminal Minds," a promo that turned up for the Mouse River Players' production of Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite" I did with Kymn Quill in Minot, and series I encountered while plowing through my archives to get into my new binder, including "The West Wing," "Six Feet Under," "Fringe," "Eli Stone" and "My Own Worst Enemy," as well as highlights running up to the 2008 election. In my Current Collection, I talk about the 12th season premiere of "Doctor Who," a whole bunch of music videos from the '80s and several movies including "The Revenant," "Fathom," the "Flatliners" remake, "Next," "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," "Stand By Me," "Gremlins." Then in What I've Been Watching, I share some thoughts on "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" from across four decades of storytelling. Finally, in "By the Numbers," I talk about a couple milestones, first on hitting episode 60 in this podcasting effort, and then the somewhat more significant milestone of breaking into Binder No. 5. At about 1,700 hours on 835 discs in my Classic Collection and some 1,800 hours on 295 discs in my Current Collection, I've cataloged nearly 3,500 hours on more than 1,100 discs in my media collection, which feels like a good amount of progress. Binder No. 3 took about a year, and this past one took about 10 months, so even my pace is improving. All that said, I'm now in Binder No. 5 of thirteen, so ... definitely a ways to go yet. Cheers!

Along with the announcement is the first teaser for the series, featuring the iconic Bat symbol and our first look at the show's logo. Played by Ruby Rose, Batwoman made her Arrowverse debut during this season's yearly crossover event, titled "Elseworlds." Even though Batwoman will follow Kate Kane's exploits in Gotham City, the series will only get "as close as it possibly can" to Batman without ever physically introducing him. As for his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, he "remains off-limits for the foreseeable future" as far as The CW is concerned. https://www.cbr.com/batwoman-cw-series-order-first-teaser/ Jeopardy Featured A Question on DC's Legends Of Tomorrow (Date: 9 May 2019) Last night's episode of Jeopardy! featured a question about DC's Legends of Tomorrow -- although nobody on the episode could successfully answer it. But for comic book fans, the coolest thing going on last night was a reference to The CW superhero show, in which Caity Lotz plays Sara Lance/White Canary, a role she originated on Arrow. “Filipino martial arts training helped Caity Lotz play Sara Lance, the “White Canary,” who leads the time travelers on this DC show,” the answer read (the question, of course, was “What is DC's Legends of Tomorrow?”). https://comicbook.com/dc/2019/05/09/jeopardy-featured-a-question-on-dcs-legends-of-tomorrow/ NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-its-brother-vs-sister-in-the-new-promo-for-the-season-7-finale-you-have-saved-this-city-a168213 (Date: 6 May 2019) Episode: “You Have Saved This City” [Season 7 Episode 22] Air Date: Monday, May 13, 2019 Summary: The battle between Oliver and Emiko comes to a boiling point which brings back some familiar faces and leaves others in dire jeopardy. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 39th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "A Million Little References," I talked about a musical stage production of "A Christmas Story" we got to that they're running for another week at the FMCT -- go see that if you can, they do a fantastic job. For my Friday Night Feature, I talked about a fourth season episode of "Doctor Who" called "The Fires of Pompeii" that I really enjoyed. It feels like most of the time when I talk about "Doctor Who" I'm complaining about this or that, so I wanted to just revel in the positives, not least of which this preunion of David Tennant, Catherine Tate and Peter Capaldi as 2-1/2 Doctors, along with a pre-Pond appearance by Karen Gillan as a soothsayer -- outstanding! In my Classic Collection, along with a bunch of the usual, I discovered episodes of "Terminal City," a strong if unfortunately interrupted performance by George Michael in the first season finale of "Eli Stone," the BBC America counterterrorism production of "MI-5," several first season episodes of "The Sarah Jane Adventures" on Syfy, as well as Syfy's presentation of the 1995 "Ghost in the Shell" Puppet Master anime. In my Current Collection, I managed to completely empty out my DVR and catalog most of my current collection, up to disc X202. I watched my season 5 pileup of AMC's 10th year anniversary reairing of "Breaking Bad," which figured heavily in the backlog. Unfortunately, this interfered a lot with progress on my Classic Collection, contributing to the lateness of this installment. Along with "Breaking Bad," I archived episodes on either side of midterm elections from Samantha Bee's "Full Frontal" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" I'll have to go back and catalog properly. I also brought in episodes from season 1 of Netflix original "BoJack Horseman" as rebroadcast on Comedy Central, as well as episodes of "The Good Place," "Superstore" and that ABC production of "A Million Little Things" my friend Jesse Zimmerman talked to me about in Episode 38 and which I was only able to watch three or four episodes of that, but maybe ABC will put the whole thing back on demand at some point. Speaking of missing episodes, I couldn't find the "Doctor Who" season 11 episode "Kerblam!" anywhere, but I think they're planning a marathon from the current season in the run-up to the Christmas episode so ... keeping an eye out. And in other Nerd Shows, comments on "Hacking the Universe" and "How the Universe Works." Finally, in What I've Been Watching, Ralph and I got over to watch "Ralph Breaks the Internet," which was awesome. Be sure to stay to the end for the preview of "Frozen 2"!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 37th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Feeling Adventurous," I open with my Friday Night Feature, discussing the pilot episode of "The Sarah Jane Adventures," which turned up in my collection on disc 560. The show, a spinoff from "Doctor Who," aired for five seasons, and while I was in the Who-niverse, I took the opportunity to talk a bit more about "Doctor Who" as well. Shifting to my classic VHS-to-DVD collection, I found a few episodes of "Eli Stone" and "Medium," and a few frames of an episode of "Samantha Who?" which, since it has not turned up in my catalog before now, may have been lost forever. In my current direct-to-DVD recordings, I talked about the fourth season finale of "Better Call Saul," the continuing ethical conundrums they're facing on "The Good Place," the pilot episode of the "Charmed" reboot, brief comments on "BoJack Horseman," "Superstore" and "American Horror Story: Apocalypse," and I'm officially done bothering with "Murphy Brown." Enjoy!

We left that dangling deliberately in season five knowing that we would bring that character back in season 6. He'll have a really cool story line, not just in respect to the city, but also with respect to a particular member of the team. EW sat down with Ramsey on set to get the scoop. When asked if Diggle's stint as Green Arrow will last, Ramsey replied, "No. No, it's Green Arrow. Stephen Amell is Green Arrow. It's not going to last. Of course not, but I think it's very interesting and it's an interesting twist on how it fits into the ultimate theme of the season, I think it's very clever. I think it's an interesting detour. It also gives us some time with Oliver. I think it's great, and he has some great writing. Stuff is happening between him and Deathstroke, and he and his son and he and Felicity. It's awesome. I think holding it for the few episodes I have the mantle, that's the appropriate amount of time." http://ew.com/tv/2017/10/25/arrow-david-ramsey-diggle-green-arrow/ ARROW CAST AND CREW INTERVIEWS 'The Flash': "Girl's Night Out" Photos Offer First Look At KateeSackhoff As Amunet Black (Date: 28 Oct 2017) KateeSackhoff is coming to The Flash, and she's making bad look good. You guys are fun to listen to and your commentary on Arrow is a great supplement to the show. I liked the connection SP made over the summer between Legends and Timeless (I also loved that show). I'm loving this season of Arrow. Have you guys noticed how the relationship has evolved between Oliver and Quentin? I feel like he has become like a second father to Oliver. It's amazing how it's changed from antagonistic in season 1 to like family in season 5/6. Its kind of sad in a way because I feel like they are going to kill him off. Also I wanted to share this image of the Cincinnati museum center. If you go back to the crossover from last year and see the Hall of Justice, you can see that the attached image looks very familiar. I'm from Cincinnati and the museum center was the inspiration for the original hall of justice. He also teased Dig's friendship with Dinah Drake, the new Black Canary, as well as the looming threat of General Walker and Team Arrow's visit to Russia. About his role in the team, he said, “He's a serviceman. He's a soldier. He's the guy who lays on a grenade. So that's what he immediately gets to. He gets to helping Dinah. He gets back to helping the team. He sees that Felicity is compromised, and he calls her on it immediately. Before he gets back out on the field — which he does! — we'll see him kind of getting back to service, of being a help, which is in the best possible way I could say that… but the moral help, I should say. The moral compass. And the team needs it. When he comes back, the team needs it. Dinah needs it, and Felicity particularly needs it.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-david-ramsey-spartan-black-canary-dinah-drake-general-walker-russia-felicity-bratva-prometheus-interview/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS The JSA Returns In This Synopsis For LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 2 Episode 12: "Camelot/3000" (Date: 03 Feb 2017) ALL FOR ONE — The Legends continue their quest to hunt down the Spear of Destiny before the pieces fall into the hands of the Legion of Doom. Variety reports Greg Berlanti's “Black Lightning” just received an official pilot order from the network. According to the report, The CW will stagger their superhero programming throughout the year to avoid scheduling five straight nights of supehero series. “I don't think so,” Berlanti said at the time. “If we're lucky enough that that exists, that that show exists, I don't think those worlds will cross over.” However, seeing as the pilot has just shifted from Fox to The CW, it's hard to rule anything out. The set photos depict not only Criss but also Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid Flash, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter and Carlos Valdes as Vibe. Titled “Duet,” the crossover will kick off March 20 with a lead-in on “Supergirl,” similar to how the setup for last fall's “Invasion!” was handled, and then continue on the March 21 episode of “The Flash.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/flash-supergirl-music-meister-set-photos/ To Celebrate The Release Of THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, DC TV Shows Get A LEGO Makeover (Date: 06 Feb 2017) The LEGO Batman Movie is receiving rave reviews, and it appears as if Warner Bros. is going all out this week to give it one final promotional push. That involves giving a LEGO makeover to many of their hit TV shows, and below you'll find Minifigure versions of characters from Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Supergirl. Disappointingly, the eclectic cast of Legends of Tomorrow hasn't been included here. Their meeting isn't so much epic as…well, confusing. That's because the gang learns that while Batman may be an unparalleled detective, he's apparently not the world's greatest speller. At 12 seconds into the promo below, you catch a glimpse of what appears to be Lex Luthor's iconic green and purple warsuit. LENA IS ARRESTED – After Metallo (guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (guest star Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena's name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine's Day together. Tawnia McKiernan directed the episode written by Robert Rovner and Cindy Lichtman. (#212). However, we didn't know that she would return in another future episode (or perhaps just stick around after the Grodd episode) and confront the god of speed. It also reunites Mark Hamill as The Joker with Kevin Conroy as Batman. But thanks to some reworking of The CW's schedule, the finale episode will air the following Tuesday, April 4th. The most interesting thing about this is that Legends will air in The Flash's timeslot on April 4th, and will be followed by the third season premiere of iZombie. They call it Versus, where they pit one character against the other. But instead of something like Super Hero Beatdown where we see the actual fight, this is more giving the histories and strengths of the characters and letting the fans decide. For their first episode they've decided to pit the Emerald Archer versus the Scarlet Speedster. Link:https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/02/05/green-arrow-vs-flash/ DC Rebirth Returned… A Lot (Date: 06 Feb 2017) On the official monthly statistics, Diamond reduces the statistical data of comics that have been designated returnable, by 10%. This indicates that Diamond expect a certain amount of returnability, but not that much. Well, it seems that DC Comics seems to have overdone it this time. They made the first six issues of all the DC Rebirth twice-monthly launch comics returnable, more than ever before. Ostensibly to allow retailers to find a ceiling limit on sales to customers, to not have to order conservatively, and to be confident in ordering big. Which has allowed certain titles that had slipped away in recent years, specifically Superman and Flash, to find an appreciative audience. However, there is a cost for that kind of thing. And while sales of DC Comics are also up, so is the returnability, at record high levels, and something DC and Diamond didn't anticipate. Which is why those pallet photos are meant to be quite a revelation. Could this be why the Diamond 2016 end-of-year statistics have been so delayed? Specifically, it was spoken by Kosh in the episode "Chrysalis," and became an oft-repeated/referenced quote from the series. Michelle's addition: Kosh is the Vorlon Empire's Ambassador to Babylon 5. The line is said to Sinclair and refers to Delenn starting her transformation. Aparo & Puckett: Tobias Church's stolen cell phone turned up in a warehouse on Aparo and Puckett -- two streets named after veteran DC Comics creators Jim Aparo and Kelley Puckett. Puckett is a writer best known for his work on the Batman family of titles; Among his most notable works are the co-creations of the Cassandra Cain Batgirl and Connor Hawke, the son of Oliver Queen. Aparo is one of the most recognizable Batman artists of his era; his last ongoing series assignment before he passed away was Green Arrow #81-100 in the '90s, during which time he and Puckett introduced Connor Hawke. Ishmael Gregor - David Meunier, known to TV fans for his role on FX's Justified, joined the cast of Arrow tonight as Ishmael Gregor. Gregor in the comics is a character who's been known to make a physical transformation into a demon, complete with magical powers, but considering remarks by the showrunners about a more grounded Season Five, it seems likely that his primary role will be as a human running the Russian mob. Worth mentioning - Konstantin Kovar appeared onscreen for the first time in this week's episode, played by Hollywood action legend Dolph Lundgren. Channel 52 makes yet another appearance. Callbacks to early seasons include Oliver's tennis ball-training session, the appearance of The List, and all those names on it. Earlier this year I was speaking with [showrunner] Wendy Mericle, and I was like, ‘Look, there's two things that we're no longer allowed to write about Oliver: We're no longer allowed to call him a billionaire, because … he lost his family fortune. And we're currently not allowed to say ‘playboy' — he's dated one woman since Season 2, and he had a fling with Isabel Rochev. That's it.' I really think he's just a simple sort of guy that has got caught up in deeper situations. I do think it would have been a missed opportunity in the last year of these flashbacks to not have a really worthy adversary. We found that in Dolph, which is why he'll be around for a while. It's been a blast to work with him. It's been awesome.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-amell-calls-dolph-ludgrens-character-a-worthy-adversary/ Arrow's Josh Segarra reveals what excites him about playing Vigilante (Date: 09 Nov 2016) Next week's episode of Arrow, titled "Vigilante," will center on the character of Star City District Attorney Adrian Chase (played by actor Josh Segarra), and introduce his costumed alter ego, Vigilante. He told ComicBook.com during the Arrow 100th episode party that they were working hard not to disappoint anybody who read the comics and had expectations for the character. "The biggest question that I have for myself as an actor is 'why does this person become the person that they are?'" Segarra said. "So what's going to be hard is that in the middle of the season I get to introduce Vigilante. So now I'm getting to tell that backstory and we get to tell the biggest pieces and get to show him becoming who he is before episode 7." Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/11/09/arrows-josh-segarra-reveals-what-excites-him-about-playing-vigil/ Should Arrow end after season 5? Stephen Amell, EP Marc Guggenheim discuss (Date: 10 Nov 2016) The article examines why season 5 could be a natural ending, but Marc Guggenheim says, “No, I think we tend to look at season 5 as the end of a particular chapter.” Arrow doesn't seem to be in any danger of cancellation at present; while ratings are down from last season, it remains one of The CW's four most-watched programs. The show's longevity seems to surprise even the producers. The flashback storyline was always “a five-year deal,” says Guggenheim, and they intend to stick with that plan. “The show just turned out to be more successful than we anticipated.” Also Stephen Amell discusses why season 4 disappointed him at times and how he likes the renewed focus of season 5. In an interview with ComicBook.com she said, “The thing is, I can't kill him. If I kill him in 1942 or 1952, all of those years that he was supposed to do everything would be messed up; it's a big change to history. So I wouldn't be able to even kill him. I think she's struggling, now that she's captain, with this higher sense of purpose. It's not just all about her; she has to consider other people. You see what happens with Barry Allen when he changed the timeline. She's coming around and being like ‘I have to accept this,' but I still think there's something in her that is always going to want to change it and I don't know, if she had the opportunity, if she would pass it up. I think it's still a big area of conflict for her. And of course she misses her sister.” Link:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/11/04/legends-of-tomorrows-caity-lotz-even-if-she-wants-to-sara-cant-b/ The responsibilities of time travelers when it comes to slavery (Date: 06 Nov 2016) The episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow entitled Abominations had two things in mind when picking the title. The eighth episode [of ‘Arrow'] is going to have a lot of big things coming out of it, and that's going to be one of them. Yes.” Ramsey also weighed in how Digg will react to the idea of an alien invasion, which will take place over the course of The CW's four-show crossover this fall. “How is he going to react to seeing a woman fly across the horizon in a skirt? That's an even better question!” he shared. “All of this flips Digg out, but I think he's slowly getting a grip that this is the world that he now lives in and that's part of his journey as well this season.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-diggle-will-confront-flash-about-the-consequences-of-flashpoint/ Arrow: Amell calls Oliver's vigilantism ‘A last resort' (Date: 28 Oct 2016) Asked what he thought of Oliver's enduring legacy as Green Arrow, Amell told CBR, “He's very tough on [the new recruits], but then — in private moments, speaking with people he holds in close confidence — he sort of extols their virtues. So I think that he's proud, but again, being a vigilante (and I think that he would agree with this) is the last resort, not the first resort. In a perfect world, Star City wouldn't need a Green Arrow. So I think that the proliferation of them, while heartening in some sense and encouraging, is also a reminder that he hasn't gotten the job done.” As to whether or not this job could ever truly be done, he added, “Of course! When the show is done, he'll have gotten the job done.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-amell-calls-olivers-vigilantism-a-last-resort/ Mericle calls Arrow's 100th episode a ‘Love letter to the show' (Date: 28 Oct 2016) Wendy Mericle spoke to CBR about finding a balance between “Arrow's” legacy and the crossover event, the future of the show, Green Lantern Easter eggs, female super-villains and more. About the 100th episode, she said, “It's the 100th and we wanted it to be very nostalgic and very much about the DNA of “Arrow,” of the show when it started. We feel really lucky. We found a way to balance the fact that we do now live in a world where there are metas and there are aliens. Greg Berlanti came up with this brilliant way of accomplishing that and making it very much a love letter to the fans and to the show.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/mericle-calls-arrows-100th-episode-a-love-letter-to-the-show/ Arrow: Lance & Thea will develop a father/daughter dynamic (Date: 29 Oct 2016) At the celebration of “Arrow's” 100th episode, Paul Blackthorne — who plays Quentin — told CBR that Thea's offer of help will lead the two to develop a father/daughter relationship as the season moves forward. He said, "We both felt the characters wouldn't realize that was happening for quite a long time. It's not like, ‘Oh, she feels like my daughter!' It's quite unspoken, but of course it does certainly feel like that. It's like, ‘I recognize this feeling, but it's with somebody else.' It's been interesting playing on that dynamic with her.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-lance-thea-will-develop-a-fatherdaughter-dynamic/ Is Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim teasing The Question appearance? (Date: 01 Nov 2016) Instead of Question coming to Star City, it looks like Team Arrow might be heading to Hub City instead.“Headed out of town…” he wrote. The caption was attached to an image advertising Hub City's premium development potential. At the bottom right-hand corner of the advert, fans can see that the advert is associated with Arrow's eleventh episode this season. Currently, fans have not been told what title the episode will carry, but fans are now wondering if it will have anything to do with the Question. Boland is brash yet tactful, tough, speaks her mind, and is not the easiest person to impress. She also has a problem with vigilantes.Harkavy's character will join in the back half of the season. Talia is the daughter of Ra's — who was the main villain in “Arrow's” third season, played by Matt Nable — and the half-sister of Nyssa al Ghul, who's played by Katrina Law. Talia, like Nyssa, is an elite warrior, excelling in multiple different forms of combat. Unlike her sister though, she refuses to pick sides and instead creates her own. Doig's first appearance as Talia will be in the tenth episode of Season 5. "In some ways, there can be some episodes of Arrow that can be just as optimistic in their own way, especially given the perils that they're up against," Berlanti told ComicBook.com during a recent event celebrating the hundredth episode of Arrow. "It's definitely a darker-toned show in a lot of regards, but it's always the relationships and those are just as emotional and deep and fun." (Date: 02 Nov 2016) The early ratings for Tuesday are out, and if the numbers hold steady, CW's The Flash will have hit an all-time low with 2.71 million viewers and a .9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, coveted by advertisers for its purchasing power. That's still better than the once mighty Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., however, which seems to have settled into a .8 rating with 2.52 million viewers, even despite the recent addition of Ghost Rider. Adrian Chase Get a little dirty to clean up the filth All of the justice now comes from vigilantes CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES Season Episode “Penance” (Date: 26 Oct 2016) Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/27/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-pena/ The Name Game - Artemis and Mr. Terrific got their names this week Kord Industries - Kord Industries, a fixture in seasons 2 and 3 but less common in 4 and so far in 5, is the name of the tech company owned and operated by Ted Kord. In the comics, Ted is one of three people who have gone by the name of Blue Beetle. A heroic legacy that started in 1940, Kord's version of the Blue Beetle was the most Green Arrow-like: an inventor and industrialist who didn't have any special powers but who did have a lot of tech, mostly Beetle-themed. It's rumored that he was supposed to be the character who eventually evolved into Ray Palmer, but DC had other plans for the character — widely believed to be the forthcoming Booster Gold movie. Tech Village - This not-quite-a-Best-Buy is the name of the store where Felicity Smoak worked at the beginning Arrow's third season. This may be the first time it's had an in-story reference in at least a full season that wasn't just a brief callback to "Felicity worked there once." It is also, due to Ray Palmer's attempts to recruit Felicity to work for him, a subsidiary of Palmer Tech. Palmer Tech - Of course, this is the company formerly owned by Ray Palmer, and then Felicity Smoak. Before that, it was Oliver's company, which he signed over to Ravager as part of Deathstroke's attack on Oliver and the city. It's unclear who owns it now — maybe it's just whichever stockholder has a plurality and nobody exciting at all — but after four years of the company being one of the most regularly-used sets on the show, this is the first time we've gone back this year. Amertek - Church took RPGs from Amertek? We weren't going to mention Amertek necessarily, since we just talked about it a couple of episodes ago, but it's definitely worth noting that in the comics, the company's most notorious weapon is a modified RPG colloquially called a Toastmaster, which was designed by John Henry Irons during his time working for Ametek. Cell 1138 - John's cell number is a nod to THX 1138, George Lucas's directorial debut. It's arguably better known among the average moviegoer for giving the first bit of its name to THX, Lucas's revolutionary sound system, but the film itself remains one of Lucas's best-reviewed works and a reminder that he did great work outside of just Star Wars and Indiana Jones. It's worth noting that at one point in the film, the title character THX and one of his fellow prisoners (SEN 5241) stage a jail break from a facility where most of the other inmates have no desire to leave — kind of like Diggle had no desire to leave at the start of the episode. Molecular Destabilizer - That spray, used to immediately and dramatically destabilize the molecules in anything it's sprayed on (how does it stay in the bottle?), feels like a nod to the universal solvent in the first arc of All-Star Squadron. In that story, a solvent designed by villain Dr. Zodiak was used to dissolve everything from walls to guns, and made the gimmick weapons used by a number of Justice Society of America members pretty useless. Callback - This one is kind of an odd mention, but it's interesting to note that Friedkin's comments to Oliver in jail -- "do you think you scare me more than him?" -- are echoed in the present day almost immediately by the man being interrogated by Adrian Chase. ARROW NEWS: Marc Guggenheim reveals the title of Arrow's 100th episode (Date: 23 Oct 2016) While Arrow takes its hundredth episode to celebrate the four-plus seasons that have come before, it also has to balance the needs of a four-show crossover that will bring Supergirl into The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Guggenheim said, "Arrow episode 508 is called 'Invasion!' with the exclamation point. And Legends of Tomorrow 207 is going to be 'Invasion!'. I'll leave it up to you to guess what The Flash is called." Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/23/marc-guggenheim-reveals-the-title-of-arrows-100th-episode/ Is Tommy Merlyn really Prometheus? (Date:23 Oct 2016) The article discusses the possibility that Tommy Merlyn could be Prometheus. Tommy could be alive due to Flashpoint or Malcolm using the Lazarus pit. Since producers like Marc Guggenheim has said “Oliver bears a measure of responsibility for the creation of Prometheus,” longtime viewers are convinced the villain is more so connected to Oliver as a person than as a vigilante. Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/24/arrow-is-tommy-merlyn-really-prometheus-/ Stephen Amell posts bloody Arrow selfie (Date: xx month year) “Arrow” lead Stephen Amell has posted a bloody selfie indicating that he shot quite a violent scene over the weekend. Amell is sporting long locks and facial hair, indicating that this beating he takes will occur during one of “Arrow's” trademark flashback sequences. Link:http://www.cbr.com/stephen-amell-posts-bloody-arrow-selfie/ David Ramsey reveals how Diggle will respond to Flashpoint changes (Date:24 Oct 2016) Flashpoint changed Diggle's family. How will Diggle handle the revelation? "Much more compassionately than you might think," Ramsey said. "Diggle can't miss anything he's never had and 'Flashpoint' changes history -- it changes his history directly -- so he never can really miss Baby Sara anymore, because he never had her, but he is concerned about Barry. Barry's actions were reckless, and with all that power, being reckless -- to someone as disciplined as Diggle -- comes as a shock." The tenth episode of Season Five is called “Who Are You?” Guggenheim informed fans that the episode was now in production under director's Gregory Smith guidance. Aside from their involvement in Team “Arrow,” fans know virtually nothing about Oliver Queen's new recruits — but that's about to change. Though the three “Arrow” stars were unable to offer too many details, Joe Dinicol, Madison McLaughlin and Rick Gonzales teased some new information about where their characters came from, why they became vigilantes and what affects their dynamic within the team. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-wild-dog-artemis-more-weigh-in-on-their-characters-pasts/ Stephen Amell reveals how Arrow's hundredth episode begins (Date: 26 Oct 2016) “The hundredth episode of Arrow begins in a very appropriate way: it begins with Oliver running," Amell revealed. "We've had him running into the premiere almost every year, we didn't have him running in this year, but we have him running in the hundredth episode." Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/26/stephen-amell-reveals-how-arrows-hundredth-episode-begins/ Arrow's Stephen Amell talks Casey Jones/Wild Dog comparisons (Date: 26 Oct 2016) Amell has a sense of humor about Wild Dog being in a hockey mask like Casey Jones. "One of the producers asked me, 'Do you think this is too on the nose?' I was like, 'No, becuase why are we doing this show if we're not going to have fun with something like that?'" Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/25/arrows-stephen-amell-talks-casey-jones-wild-dog-comparisons/ The comic book history of the Vigilante (Date: 26 Oct 2016) The article focuses on the Adrian Chase story as that is the version currently popping up on Arrow. His origin was pretty straight forward. His role as a D.A. put him on someone's hit list and his family got killed because of it. By the second issue of the series, Chase was already questioning his choice of taking the law into his own hands. The character was a unique look into the side of vigilantism that doesn't normally get addressed in comics. We see the physical and legal ramifications and even some of the aspects of getting lost in the battle. Link:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/10/26/comic-book-history-vigilante/ Arrow: Is Adrian Chase the Vigilante already? Actor Jose Segarra weighs in (Date: 26 Oct 2016) In the season 5 premiere of Arrow, Felicity Smoak showed Oliver Queen an image of somebody wearing ski goggles. Supposedly a police artist's sketch of an anonymous vigilante working in Star City, Team Arrow haven't mentioned him again since -- although longtime comic book readers recognized him. The image was that of Adrian Chase -- better known as Vigilante. So if tonight is Vigilante's genesis, what's the deal with that police sketch? We asked Josh Segarra, who plays Chase, to clarify. "That's what I think is going to be interesting, is what parts of the comic are we going to get to put on the show?" He responded when ComicBook.com asked him about the police sketch. "I know the answer to that but the audience don't. But that's what been great is that we're trying to keep it as much as we can in that world, but also keep it exciting because I don't want any plot twists to be a thing where people are expecting something and don't get them.So I'm hoping that we get the right pieces along the way. So now I'm getting to tell that backstory and we get to tell the biggest pieces and get to show him becoming who he is before episode 7." In this case, it was really simple. I went to the writers' room, this was a pitch on the table, I shot an email off to [DC Comics CCO] Geoff Johns, I got a response back, and Deadshot's in the episode.” Link:https://www.cinemablend.com/television/1568149/how-arrows-surprise-suicide-squad-cameo-came-to-be People's Choice awards (Date: xx month year) Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends are on the list for best Sci-Fi/Fantasy show; Stephen Amell is up for Sci-Fi/Fantasy actor and social media star. The image shows “Arrow” characters Ragman (Joe Dinicol), Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum) and Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) standing alongside other series' leads the Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) as well as director James Bamford. This year's crossover between CW's DC shows will begin in “Supergirl” on November 28 and continue through the week's DC shows, including “Flash” on November 29, “Arrow” on November 30 and “Legends of Tomorrow” on December 1. (Date: 23 Oct 2016) With the second season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow we've been introduced to a second woman wearing the Vixen costume. Join Blogcritics Co-Executive Editor and Founder of Let's Talk TV for this look at how primetime TV taps into its more spiritual side. Whether overt or part of the subtext, Primetime TV drama often tackles the tricky subject of God, sometimes with grace, and sometimes rather clumsily. My guest Gerry Weaver and I will talk about several current and recent television series and how they deal with the subject of God: Supernatural, Stargate Universe, Eli Stone, Battlestar Galactica, even House M.D. and The X-Files. So tune in and join the conversation. We are happy to be sponsored by Wireless 1, who created the Let's Talk TV app, now available for free for iOS or Android devices.

Dale & Scott are in Los Angeles all week and, boy oh boy, have they had some adventures. But before you let your mind wander...it was all on the up-and-up, a week full of celebrity sightings, celebrity conversations, a few more celebrities, and a big fat mash-up. (The dozens of photos will be coming soon!) First up, we bring you the 60-minute Black Sheep/Swish Edition duel broadcast. Black Sheep co-hosts Andrew & Chad welcomed Dale & Scott to be guests on their LIVE show, heard on Tuesday night, December 6, on the Global Voice Broadcasting network. Together, the boys talked about the differences between east coast and west coast boys, the Trevor Live event they all attended last Sunday night (including Dale & Scott's reporting from the red carpet and their chats with actress Jennifer Coolidge, talk show host Ricki Lake, pop singer Fergie and others), and much more. It's a fun, slightly dirty conversation with the best of what both shows have to offer. East Meets West, if you will. We love our new brothers on the left coast and can't wait to mash 'em up with them again! After that, Dale & Scott drop in on Scott's high school friend Rob Nagle, an LA-based actor/director who is featured in this week's new major motion picture, "New Year's Eve." Rob not only stars in dozens of television commercials, independent and mainstream movies, guest appearances on TV--like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Harry's Law," "Young and the Restless," "Eli Stone," and countless others--but he's also an accomplished stage actor and teacher. Get the skinny from behind the scenes from someone who knows everyone, has done it all, and a character you should keep your eye on...because you'll be seeing a lot of him in the very near future! Between all that, the boys tell you about their adventures at Universal Studios, up and down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at a taping of "The Tonight Show," and much more. And since they recorded their little bits in their hotel room with the air conditioner on and a maid vacuuming in the hall, well, it's not studio-quality throughout, but we think you'll still dig it. This week's show is once again brought to you by AdamMale.com (use the offer code "SWISH" for 50% off any item, free shipping and three free DVD's) and Atlantis Events' January 29, 2012 Caribbean cruise.

Sam Jaeger’s inherent talent and carefully selected roles have him poised to arrive as a major leading man in Hollywood. Jaeger could most recently seen in the second season of the television show “Eli Stone.” Jaeger played Dennis in the feature film “Catch & Release,” also starring Jennifer Garner and Kevin Smith. Additionally, Jaeger has such credits as the TV movie “The Riverman,” opposite Carey Elwes and Bruce Greenwood and the indy hit “Lucky Number Slevin” opposite Bruce Willis and Josh Hartnett. “Slevin” was seen at Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and opened nationally to critical acclaim. Recently, Jaeger wrapped production on his feature directorial debut, “Take Me Home,” which he wrote, directed and starred in along with Amber Jaeger, Victor Garber and Bree Turner. Jaeger began his professional career in New York while attending college, landing a guest-starring role on “Law & Order.” He also spent several seasons doing theater in New York before making the move to Los Angeles. Once in LA he landed parts in two feature films, “Traffic” and “Behind Enemy Lines.” After those standout roles, he won the powerful role opposite Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell in “Hart’s War.” In the years following, Jaeger built up an impressive television resume, including roles in such hits as “ER,” “CSI,” “The West Wing,” “NYPD Blue,” “Scrubs,” “That’s Life” and “Girls Club.” In addition to his film and small screen credits, Jaeger has also co-written and co-produced two short films. The first of which, “Quiz Bowl,” caught the eye of actress Kate Bosworth who later agreed to star in his next short, “Advantage Hart.” “Hart” had its premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival and then toured on the film festival circuit.

Grammy award winning band Jars of Clay have had songs on TV shows like Eli Stone, House and Bones. They've had a flood of hits, lot's of crazy times, some say that their music flows like liquid. In this interview keyboardist Charlie Lowell shares the heart behind the band and their passion to raise awareness and money for the poverty and AIDS stricken parts of Africa.
Seamus Dever knows a thing or two about playing bad guys. After all, it was his character Dr. Ian Devlin who accidentally shot young Michael Corinthos on General Hospital. On ABC primetime's Castle, premiering tonight at 10/9C, Dever finally gets a chance to play one the good guys. He plays Irish cop Kevin Ryan, sharing screentime with Stana Katic, Jon Huerta and fellow ABC daytime grad Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey, One Life to Live), who portrays the title character, Richard Castle, a best-selling crime novelist suffering from writer's block, who decides to shadow NYPD detective Kate Beckett (Katic) for inspiration. On this episode of the Daytime Confidential Podcast, Dever chats with Luke and Jamey about his role on the highly-anticipated midseason show, his first as a primetime series regular. Dever shares that although Castle is being likened to 80's comfort food TV programs like Moonlighting or Scarecrow and Mrs. King, he sees more of a parallel between the series and the popular screwball comedies of the 30's and 40's, which he says sets Castle apart from other primetime crime procedurals. He also reveals whether or not he believes there is more pressure for the show to suceed considering ABC's recent cancellations of such high-profile shows as Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Life on Mars. Then Dever looks back with Luke and Jamey about his brief, but memorable stint on General Hospital. He reveals how he felt when he learned the antihero doctor he signed on to play, was being turned into a mob assassin, and what role the 2007-08 Writers' Strike played in that plot twist. Dever talks about what it was like working with Sebastian Roche, Tyler Christopher, Jason Thompson and Sarah Brown, whom he still considers a pal, and reveals if he and Nathan Fillion swap soap stories on the set of Castle. Dever also provides a sneak peek of Ready or Not, his upcoming Direct-to-DVD buddy comedy. It's an episode you don't wanna miss.
As announced last week officially, and if you follow our twitter, which Nitro and Jimmy updated constantly (and occasionally fight on, causing you to think whoever typing is a schitzo) well, you know that we've been advertising that our interview this week, our first real interview is with Marc Guggenheim. If you're not familar with Marc, well you should be. He has written episodes of The Practice, he has produced Brothers & Sisters, CSI: Miami, and has written Call of Duty 3 and also wrote the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game, and more importantly, at least to GBG listeners and Nitro, Jon & Jimmy themselves, he is the co-creator of ELI STONE. Add the fact that he is writing the upcoming Green Lantern movie, (and NOT GREEN HORNET as we for some reason say) and he is writing the big story arc called Character Assassination for one of Marvel's flagship titles, The Amazing Spider-man, you have one cool cat who is obviously very geeky and is, dare we say, the bee's knees. We ask important questions such as Eli Stone, what is really going on with the show, is it coming back or not, and we also discuss Green Lantern and hint of a Superman cameo, did Marc dig Batman Forever, and also what exactly does the titles of producers mean on a tv show anyway? We answer all these questions and more with one of the most down to earth and coolest guys to ever 'pop our serious-interview cherry' so to speak, all on this week's... THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE GEEKY!
Sam Jaeger, Matt Dowd on ABC's "Eli Stone," will be making an appearance on BuzzWorthy Radio this week! Jaeger will be discussing his character on the ABC primetime series, as well as how he got started in acting.
Eric Diaz, from the video podcast Geekscape brings a unique perspective to the show this week. Lots of frank, dividing subject matter gets covered here in this overstuffed episode, so proceed with caution. Not suitable for children, unless you're really open and casual with your kids. Like, seriously.00:02:46 - Eric is singing the praises of Mad Men. It won some important Emmy awards, so that's gotta count for something, right?00:09:12 - John desperately wants to check out the special features on the Spaced DVDs, even though he's already seen and enjoyed the show.00:11:48 - John is experiencing a love/hate relationship with season one of Eli Stone. The conversation turns into talk of the Green Lantern movie.00:18:47 - Breaking news, Tim Burton was a hired gun on his remake of Planet Of The Apes, which ruined the movie.00:20:28 - John and Eric discuss fan boy-submitted, great movies lists. Popularity goes head to head with actual quality.00:26:00 - Back to Eli Stone. Season two will be arriving soon, but John is almost certain the show had been canceled. Confusion ensues.00:29:55 - John brings up Fringe. It's entertaining, but the problems are still there. This leads into some Joshua Jackson love.00:42:36 - If a show taps an idea really well, should no one else be allowed to expand on it? This leads to talk about Bones. The show has jumped the shark, so John has dropped it. Again.00:46:27 - There's talk of the season three premiere of Heroes. It's not pretty. Thankfully, Hiro manages to escape more or less unscathed.00:56:36 - John gives his play by play on Heroes through his Twitter posts.01:06:24 - John continues his thoughts on season one of Six Feet Under.01:13:45 - Eric explains the difference between sexual behavior and sexual orientation, using the new Buffy comics and the television series as reference material.01:24:48 - Chasing Amy comes up in a discussion of the validity bisexuality.01:34:27 - Buffy gets blamed for the decrease in female membership in the Church Of England. We roll our eyes and scoff.01:45:41 - Eric makes a bold prediction about the Buffy comics. John gasps, but considers it.01:54:02 - Eric praises the writing on the Angel comics, but the art makes him cry.02:01:30 - John closes out the show by lamenting how expensive weekly comics are.The following artists can be heard in this episode:C & C Music Factory, Etta James, Johnny Ace, Dan Mudford & Pete Woodhead, George Michael, Ladytron, Beck, Imogen Heap, Thomas Dolby, Moby, Pete Yorn, Crystal Method, Wendy & Lisa, Stars, Iio, Doves, Gym Class Heroes, Thomas Newman, Lamb, Stereophonics, Sarah Mclachlan, DJ Shadow, Massive Attack, Tricky, The Futureheads, Curve, Marvin Gaye, Overseer, Sinead O'Connor, BT, Joshua Radin and Dead Or Alive.
Couch Surfing Episode 08 - The Whedon/Zombie Dance-OffIn episode eight of Couch Surfing, our heroes rejoice at the end of the Writer’s Strike. Scott gushes about the new ABC show, Eli Stone, but weeps about the latest FOX game show, The Moment of Truth. John finally finishes Veronica Mars, and Scott must talk him down off the ledge, over the unsatisfactory ‘ending’. They both praise the mind blowing bargains from Deep Discount. Scott finds the willpower not to punch a kitten after watching the BBC show, Primeval, while John shares a childhood story of his mad archery skills. The two of them finish up the show by lamenting Joss Whedon’s frustrating lack of follow-through, and laughing at the absurdity of Rob Zombie possibly directing Conan. The following artists can be heard in this episode:Leroy, Shakespeare’s Sister, Lords of Acid, George Michael, Fleetwood Mac, The Bravery, INXS, Bjork & PJ Harvey, The Delays, Guided By Voices, The Dandy Warhols, Primal Scream, Prince, Was Not Was, Hans Zimmer, AFI, Evanescence, Scissor Sisters, Nickelback, Staind, White Zombie and The Dollyrots.
The strike is over but the good scripted fare is still not taking up all of our TV time. Dan and Kathie chat about some of reality's biggest hits: American Idol, Big Brother 9, Survivor, and Project Runway but don't worry we still have time for LOST and newbies Eli Stone and Unhitched. Kath also gives you an update on where she is in watching all 7 seasons of Buffy before the end of March.
Guest: Michael Rich, MD, MPH Host: Bill Rutenberg, MD The American Academy of Pediatrics recently unsuccessfully tried to stop the airing of the first episode of Eli Stone. Why? Because the episode revolved around a virus additive that was blamed for a case of autism. In this segment, our guest Dr. Michael Rich, Director of the Center on Media and Child Health at Children's Hospital in Boston, talks with Dr. Bill Rutenberg about whether or not the media should be held responsible for outcomes related to programming.
