I was a little star struck doing this interview because Keith Weber was the first kettlebell coach I discovered and completed his program... a decade ago! Keith is on today to share how he discovered kettlebells 21 years go when they were practically unheard of. Why he had to have his first kettlebells shipped to a different country just to be able to get them and the changes he's seen in kettlebell fitness over the past 20 years. Plus so much more. This was one of the most enjoyable episodes to record and I know you'll love the passion and information Keith Weber shares. This talk considers mathematical proofs through an analogy to cooking recipes: that proofs give recipes for mathematical actions to be carried out by the reader. We will see linguistic evidence that written proofs often include explicit instructions in the imperative mood, just like recipes. This will lead to philosophical insights about mathematical diagrams, reading and writing proofs, and why maths is like the Great British Bake Off.A lecture by Dr Fenner TanswellThe transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website:https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/recipes-proofGresham College has offered free public lectures for over 400 years, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. RockerMike and Rob Presents: Dan Palmer from The Crushtones. The Crushtones hail from Saginaw, MI. What started in 2012 as a reason to hang out in the basement to sit around and play our instruments and drink a few beers slowly morphed into a more serious music project. The band consists of Dan Palmer, who sings and plays guitar, and writes the lyrics. Keith Weber plays guitar, helps come up with the musical ideas, and occasionally sings backup vocals when his arm is twisted really hard. Tom Towns also plays guitar and provides extra texture to our sound. Stephen Hughey plays the bass, sings, and helps with song writing. Jake Nowosad plays the drums and helps keep everything nice and tight. The Crushtones' vision is a direct result of Dan's love of '60s garage rock and power pop. The whole idea is to make sure the songs are melodic and catchy, while still maintaining a bit of an edge. The guitars are loud, but never overpowering. Fuzz tones are preferable to nice clean guitar sounds, even though the clean sounds still seem to show up from time to time. Lyrically, the songs are usually cynical, yet being very memorable at the same time. The Crushtones released their first self-titled full-length CD in May 2015. It featured a set of catchy guitar-based rock songs reminiscent of an assortment of late-60s and early-70s bands like The Kinks and The Who, but still retained their own uniqueness. After several years, and a few lineup changes, they finally released a new EP entitled "Not No More in January 2021. Sounding more powerful, the songs are still full of hooks and stick in your head for days. As soon as the pandemic has settled down, The Crushtones can't wait to finally hit the stage again. What?? Two episodes in one week? That’s right. We made you a treat: Go with us on a field trip to the Moores School of Music Organ Recital Hall at the University of Houston where we meet up with Keith “Creepy” Weber and the colossal, two-story Beckerath Organ that lurks in the hall. Learn all about Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and why it’s the soundtrack for all things macabre in this episode, the final installment of our Bachtoberfest series. Music in this episode played by Keith Weber, except for “Toccata Remix” by VioDance. Audio production by Todd “All A-Twitter” Hulslander with snargling by Dacia Clay and editing by Mark DiClaudio. Thanks to Matthew Dirst and Melissa Sanson for the information they provided for this episode. Check out these photos from our recording session! Taken from the floor of the recital hall. Because why not. Photo by Dacia Clay Keith Weber and Dacia Clay. Regular-sized people, giant Beckerath organ. Photo by Mark DiClaudio. Keith Weber (L) and Dacia Clay (with zombie hand gestures). The human voice is (very probably, we’re pretty darn sure) the first classical music instrument. Grammy-nominated producer, choral and orchestral instructor, and artistic director of Grace Song, Inc., Keith Weber takes us on a journey through the evolution of choral work. He also explains why choir singers are generally in way less peril than opera singers. Audio production for this episode by Todd “Tasty” Hulslander with smart-mouthed comebacks from Dacia Clay.
In honor of Beethoven's 240-something birthday, Keith Weber, Grammy-nominated Producer, Director of Music and Organist at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston, and Artistic Director of Grace Song, Inc., talks about just who this "Beethoven" guy was, why he was officially excused from having manners at parties, and all about his "Missa Solemnis" mass. Audio production by Todd “Todd Rundgren” Hulslander without a lick of help from Dacia Clay. Music used in this episode: – Ludwig van Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in D major, Op. 123 For more information about Grace Song, Inc., go to www.gracesong.us.
Samuel Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915", as sung by – no, not Bryan Adams – Eleanor Steber. In this episode, Keith Weber, Grammy-nominated Producer, Director of Music and Organist at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston, and Artistic Director of Grace Song, Inc., teaches Dacia about this all-American commissioned piece. Audio production by Todd “Todd Almighty” Hulslander with spiritual guidance from Dacia Clay.
In this episode, Grammy-nominated Producer, Director of Music and Organist at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston, and Artistic Director of Grace Song, Inc. Keith Weber teaches Dacia about Camille Saint-Saëns' Organ Symphony. Audio production by (also Grammy-nominated!) Todd Hulslander with assistance from Dacia Clay.
