Ankhet Hesi-Ra, Senior Consultant of Communications and Media Ppesence for the Cultural Wellness Center says the Midtown Global Market is the location for this year's Kwanzaa Celebration. It takes place 11am to 2pm from seven days beginning December 26, 2024. She says the event is a sacred celebration acknowledging an unbreakable spirit.
Talked with Edward Stinson, Museum Docent from the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in Delray Beach. The museum is located in the former home of Solomon D. Spady. Spady museum is a non-profit that "expands and preserves our cultural heritage, sharing local black history with Delray Beach Black archive, exhibits, bus tours, walking tours, commemorative events and youth mentoring." They have a lot of great events lined up including community Kwanzaa Celebration on 12/26 adn then their annual Martin Luther King Jr luncheon on January 20th. he Umoja Village Celebration took place Tuesday afternoon for the first day of Kwanzaa at The Amp 16 Tech. Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday that celebrates seven principles: Umoja — meaning unity in Swahili, Kujichagulia or self-determination, Ujima translated as “collective work and responsibility,” Ujamaa principle refers to uplifting your community economically, Nia means purpose, Kuumba meaning “creativity,” and Imani the final principle translates to “faith.”The Indianapolis Kwanzaa Committee kicked off the celebration with the holiday's first principle, Umoja.The Kwanzaa committee has been doing these celebrations for over 50 years with hopes of bringing the community together through local vendors and celebrations.
