I'm still enrolling people on my podcast summer camp for the next couple of days. This 6 week program takes people through every step of starting a podcast and gives them a strong base to build from. Over the 6 weeks, participants will have live coaching calls with me where we set clear goals and progress markers for the podcast, and discuss any challenges and issues that come up. I will also edit the first 6/8/10 episodes of this new podcast (depending on the length) so you can focus on learning how to get the recording right and building an audience first. Participants will have full access to my podcasting course completely free, and each week during the 6 weeks there will be check-ins and resources emailed out. I'll also provide feedback on recordings and together we can work out how to improve the quality of these recordings. By the end of our time together, I aim to have participants comfortable with the podcasting process, with a practice that suits their schedule and a direction going forward. Check out the Podcast Summer Camp (https://www.thepodfarm.com/summercamp) here. Spaces are limited so if you're interested, book in a call with me and let's chat. The web has made a profound difference to the lives of blind people. But when images are poorly described or not described at all, it makes the web a less inclusive, accessible place. What if, when one person took the time to describe an image really well, that same description could be used across the web? That's the aim of a research project from the University of Lisbon called Sonaar. In this episode, I speak with Dr Carlos Duarte about this project and what it aims to achieve. The University is looking for people who are willing to install the Sonaar Chrome extension and/or Android app and then give them feedback. If you would like to learn more and participate in the research, visit Sonaar's home on the web at http://www.di.fc.ul.pt/~cad/SONAAR/ Share your thoughts on these topics or any others. Episode 147 of the Business Bookshelf podcast - Jon Levy - Author of "You're Invited: The Art and Science of Cultivating Influence". Jon Levy is a behavioral scientist best known for his work in influence, networking, and adventure. He does research in collaboration with C-Lab, affiliated with Kellogg School of Management. Levy specializes in applying the latest scientific research on human behavior, ranging from neuroscience and psychology to economics and biology, to transform the ways companies approach marketing, sales, consumer engagement, product design, and influencer program development. Jon is the author of the book “You're Invited: The Art and Science of Cultivating Influence”. Regardless of what you want to accomplish, from growing your business, creating a great company culture, championing a social cause, or affecting your habits, you can't do it alone. The people around you define your success (whatever that means for you) and they have the potential to change the course of your life. That's what You're Invited is about: The most universal strategy for success is creating meaningful connections with those who can impact you, your life, and the things you care about. But how do you make those connections and build trust quickly? What do you do if you're introverted or hate networking? In You're Invited, Jon guides readers through the art and science of creating deep and meaningful connections with anyone, regardless of their stature or celebrity, and demonstrates how we develop influence, gain trust, and build community so that we can impact our communities and achieve what's important to us. The book can be purchased here - https://amzn.to/3iiNawr. You can find Jon's website here - www.jonlevytlb.com. The dinner party in Mark 2 is absolutely crazy. Everyone is surprised at who Jesus is eating dinner with, including the people he's eating dinner with. How should we respond to this jaw-dropping story of the Mark 2 dinner party with Jesus?
You're Invited: The Art and Science of Cultivating Influence by Jon Levy Regardless of what you want to accomplish, from growing your business, creating a great company culture, championing a social cause, or affecting your habits, you can’t do it alone. The people around you define your success (whatever that means for you) and they have the potential to change the course of your life. That’s what You’re Invited is about: The most universal strategy for success is creating meaningful connections with those who can impact you, your life, and the things you care about. But how do you make those connections and build trust quickly? What do you do if you’re introverted or hate networking? Behavioral scientist Jon Levy had no money, reputation or status, but was able to convince groups of Nobel Laureates, Olympians, celebrities, Fortune 500 executives, and even an occasional princess to not only give him advice, but cook him dinner, wash his dishes, sweep his floors, and then thank him for the experience. The goal of his gatherings, much like this book, was not networking, but building meaningful and lasting relationships. This private community based around the dinner experience became known as “The Influencers,” named for the member’s success and industry influence. Since its inception more than a decade ago, The Influencers has grown into the largest private group of its kind worldwide, with a thriving community both in person and through digital experiences. In You’re Invited, Levy guides readers through the art and science of creating deep and meaningful connections with anyone, regardless of their stature or celebrity, and demonstrates how we develop influence, gain trust, and build community so that we can impact our communities and achieve what’s important to us. I remember a couple of years ago, one day when I was asleep, my friend woke me up in the middle of the night and "invite" me to a dinner party. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! I have nothing better to do, so I went along. It turns out, it was the best dinner party that I ever have been, and was organized by the great organizer and influencer, Jon Levy! In this episode, I have him on again to talk about his new book, You're Invited: The Art & Science of Cultivating Influence. We talked about what's the real meaning of being an Influencer? It's not about having a million followers on TikTok, Instagram, or whatever social media platform. Also, why does he set out to organize all this amazing dinner party that features famous people, and why does he like connect people? Listen and find out! You might get the Invitation to his next dinner party! My new book Skip The Line is out! Make sure you get a copy wherever you get your new book! Today I talked to Jon Levy about his new book You’re Invited: The Art and Science of Cultivating Influence (Harper Business, 2021). Jon Levy is a behavioral scientist who over a decade ago founded The Influencer Dinner, a secret dining experience for industry leaders. He’s the author of The 2 AM Principle: Discover the Science of Adventure and has also served as a consultant on influence, connectivity and decision making for companies looking to transform how they do business. This episode starts with discussing Jon’s idea of launching dinners where famous people would come together to cook a meal, talk, and clean up afterwards. It grew from there to covering why connectivity is so important, and what can make an event compelling: generosity, novelty, (good) curation, and the ability to create a sense of awe. Without pushing oneself, in other words, the event can’t by definition be remarkable. Another insight is what Jon calls the IKEA Effect; just as putting your own furniture together makes you commit more to it, so likewise does an event benefit by having people come together in an activity or activities where they feel engaged and hence have a greater sense of belonging.
