Strong families are the foundation of a strong society. So how do we rebuild? In this episode of The Narrative, CCV Policy Director David Mahan and Communications Director Mike Andrews sit down with Delano Squires from The Heritage Foundation to walk through the parallels between CCV's marriage and family report, Hope and a Future, and Heritage's report, Crossroads. Delano also candidly shares about the decline of marriage and dives deep into the cultural and biblical dynamics behind the breakdown of the black family. Before the timely and thought-provoking conversation on the future of the family in America, CCV President Aaron Baer joins Mike to discuss the launch of the United States Christian Education Network (USCEN), CCV's upcoming Celebration Galas, the uptick in the denial of student visas to The Ohio State University, and how the Ohio House budget could benefit Ohioans. More about Delano Squires Delano Squires is a Research Fellow in the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family at The Heritage Foundation. He is also a contributor to Blaze Media who writes about faith, family, and culture as well as BlazeTV’s Fearless with Jason Whitlock podcast. He spent his final year in the D.C. government with the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, working with residents and local stakeholders to address violent crime in the nation’s capital. Delano grew up in New York City and earned his bachelor of science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a graduate degree in Public Policy from The George Washington University. He resides in Maryland with his wife and their three young children.

This series dives into the transformative power of self-care as an essential tool for managing chronic illness. As a pharmacist and self-care strategist, I'm here to explore how intentional self-care can reduce stress, support physical and mental well-being, and help you feel more in control of your health. We'll discuss practical, everyday self-care strategies tailored to the unique challenges of chronic illness, from nutrition and movement to mental wellness and setting boundaries. Each episode will leave you with actionable tips that empower you to prioritize yourself, improve your quality of life, and manage your condition with greater confidence. In this episode, I am joined by Tamika Smith, a medical gaslighting survivor, a dedicated community health advocate and public speaker. She founded Mone's Healthy Eats, which promotes holistic alternatives for preventative care and chronic health issues, offering solutions without harsh side effects. While not discounting the value of traditional medication regimens, Tamika's personal experience with unsuitable treatment plans—leading to multiple mild to life-threatening side effects—drove her to explore alternative approaches. Her frustration with one-size-fits-all treatments and being medically gaslit, even after diagnoses of Endometriosis and Lupus, fueled her determination to find better solutions. Tamika's journey has made her a vocal advocate for health and healthcare equality. She has recently been featured on the Tamron Hall Show “Medical Gaslighting,” The Grio's segment "Life Hacks," BlackDoctor.org's "Better Together," and in notable magazines, where she inspires others to advocate for their health. Tamika is recognized for her collaborative efforts with clinicians, providing valuable insights from a patient's perspective. In this episode, you can expect to hear: -Tameka Smith's Journey with Endometriosis -Medical Gaslighting and Misdiagnosis -Struggles with Treatment and Seeking Help -Natural Remedies and Lifestyle Changes -Living with Multiple Chronic Conditions Subscribe to email list at Dr. Alisha Reed and send questions to podcast@dralishareed.com

In this episode I'm addressing the article that The Grio wrote entitled, Trump Abolishing Education Department spells doom for Black America. I'm reminding us of how we should not be surprised or scared not one iota of what the president elect and his cabinet plan to put in place and take away because their actions are aligned with the white supremacist values that America holds so near and dear to their devlish hearts. The question is what are we going to do about it?!Are we going to curl up in a corner, be scared and talk about how we're doomed or are we going to get back to the mindset that our ancestors like Thomas Sankara, Marcus Garvey and Harriet Tubman had when fighting back against a system that has always intended to destroy our humanity. We can wait no longer. The Time Is Now! https://abcread.org/ https://abclearntutoring.com/ https://readingisfreedomshop.com/

May 30, 2024 is a day that will live in infamy! Donald Trump became the first former President of the United States to be brought to court on felony charges and have a jury reach a verdict of guilty. Not to mention that this happened while he is currently running for President again and is the highest polling candidate. The ripple effects of this historical day will be felt indefinitely. The debates will rage over whether or not this was justice or merely political lawfare. In part 5, we cover the instructions from Judge Merchan to the jury for how to deliberate. Most of the instructions were standard fare. However, the section detailing the charges raised serious questions in my mind. The charges were 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree to conceal the crime of conspiracy to promote an election by unlawful means. Each juror could determine anonymously if the "unlawful means" was one or more of the following:FECA violation (campaign contributions above the federal limit)falsifying other business recordstax violations (by paying Cohen extra money to cover income taxes)Falsifying business records alone is a misdemeanor.Conspiracy to promote an election by unlawful means is a misdemeanor. The maximum sentence for all 34 charges is 136 years in prison because Trump allegedly paid for an alleged crime in 11 installments. The jury found Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts. A lot has happened since then. Sentencing has moved to September 18th.Sources Cited:Jury instructions from Judge MerchanNY Elec L § 17-152 (2021)Michael R. Once Faith and I  had a confirmed our record date and time, Dr. Mitchell wrote saying "coincidentally this is Juneteenth.  What interesting alignment and a good opportunity to honor the ancestors who paved the way for so many of us today." And I couldn't have agreed more.Ophelia, My guest's mother and one of twelve children, was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  Faith shares stories of her mother and how enthusiastic and encouraging she was. She wanted Faith to experience anything and anywhere, including a love for a robust education, traveling with her mom and dad and Faith  loved spending time with her grandmother and mother and listening to stories about the family from past generations.Faith also loved spending time outdoors in nature exploring. When she was a young girl she lived in rural Michigan mainly because her mother insisted her daughter go to an excellent school.  They found a farmer who was desperate to sell his home and though it was an all white, restricted community, he sold it to the Mitchell's. Her mom used to say, "Faith, make something of yourself," and because the country was still segregated her mom used to speak to her and say "Black people have to progress and education is the way to progress."  Another reflection Faith shared with me is another favorite saying of her mom's which is "the parent opens the door and the child walks through."There's so much more to this conversation. I hope you enjoy the listen. Faith is fascinating. She's passionate about this country and the journey of her forefathers and all that they fought for in order to become the best that they could be.My guest was sure to point out that "Ophelia was smart, inquisitive and open to learning anything and everything. She studied to be a teacher.""Both women are ancestors who have been inspirations to me because of their sense of agency--which comes across in the photos--and their courage against the odds. Captured in the photo of Faith and her mother Ophelia - "it captures my mother and me in 1963 in the Painted Desert and reflects the fact that my parents valued exploration even in the pre-Civil Rights period when most Black people didn't have an opportunity to travel--and it could be dangerous to do so. My mother tried to open doors for me whenever she could and that's the terminology she used," Faith recalled. The word grio translates to one who is an oral historian and storyteller originally from West Africa.   INSTAGRAM:@emmas_postcard_album and @hoodoo_medicine LINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/faith-mitchell-0646b313 OTHER: YouTube - https://youtu.be/YeEWX6beGAQ. WEBSITE: https://www.drfaithmitchell.com/  Emma's Postcard Album, Black Lives in the Early Twentieth Century is now available from the University Press of Mississippi, hashtag#Amazon, and hashtag#barnesandnoble! "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. And my guests answer the question, 'are you who you are today because of, or in spite of, your mother'? You'll be amazed at what the responses are."Should Have Listened To My Mother" would not be possible without the generosity, sincerity and insight from my guests. Black American Princesses kicks off the Dear Culture series, dedicated to movies that Black people can't agree on. Panama Jackson breaks down B*A*P*S with a critical eye to better understand if the movie starring Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle was mocking the culture or just a rags-to-riches story with a Black cast. Cultural critic and movie maker Brooke Obie joins the conversation to defend the film and share why she believes, unlike in the late 90s, Black content is shrinking. To join us, sign up at Patreon.com/Gaslit! *** Republicans have once again refused to stop Trump: Nikki Haley lost the New Hampshire primary, and the Trump Klan is moving ahead towards the GOP nomination. Why might that be? According to Harvard psychologist Martha Stout, author of "The Sociopath Next Door," one in twenty-five people are sociopaths. Trump's cult has galvanized and emboldened them, unleashing a toxic sludge that threatens to drown our democracy. In this week's episode, Andrea is joined by Olga Lautman, a Russian mafia expert and co-host of the Kremlin Files podcast, to discuss why Republicans are goose-stepping in line to support a shameless wannabe dictator, why the media continues to fail us and normalize this dangerous career criminal and Russian asset, and what can be done about it. Andrea and Olga also debate over the growing attacks against Fani Willis, the Fulton County, Georgia DA who built a strong case against Trump and his goon squad for trying to overturn our election in 2020. Michael Roman, one of the 18 co-defendants in her case and a professional GOP opposition researcher, is trying to get Willis removed, which would put the entire case in jeopardy. Without any evidence, Roman claims that Willis is in a romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, a lawyer she hired to her team of prosecutors. (Who cares!) This is a clear case of disinformation warfare to help Trump once again escape accountability. While there's nothing illegal done by Willis or Wade, this is the new “Hunter Biden's laptop” – red meat for the Fox News echo chamber. Check the show notes for trusted sources that cut through the gaslighting against Willis, who must remain in her post.  As for who will actually stop Trump, that's us and our Gaslit Nation phone banks this fall.  Show Notes: OPENING CLIP: Natasha Alford, author of American Negra, and anchor of The Grio https://twitter.com/SymoneDSanders/status/1747731236196614497?t=VhKn8V81n1j_qz6Hi-er6Q&s=19 NEW YORK TIMES: Trump Prosecutor in Georgia Seeks to Avoid Testifying in Colleague's Divorce Case. Fani T. Willis was subpoenaed in the divorce case of a colleague she hired to manage the Trump prosecution in Georgia, with whom she is accused of having a romantic relationship. It noted that Ms. Willis had been subpoenaed around the same time that Mr. Roman's lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, filed motions seeking to unseal the divorce records and, in the Trump case, to remove the two prosecutors. The filing also said that Ms. Wade had acknowledged having an affair with a longtime friend of Mr. Wade's, and that the couple had agreed their marriage was ‘irretrievably broken' as early as 2017, before Mr. Wade and Ms. Willis had met.” https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/18/us/fani-willis-trump-georgia-prosecutors.html?campaign_id=60&emc=edit_na_20240118&instance_id=0&nl=breaking-news&ref=cta®i_id=48614702&segment_id=155695&user_id=097a378032011d6e8be1570cdce0a176 Ruth Marcus in The Washington Post: Fani Willis's Gift to Trump: “As a legal matter, the allegations about a romantic relationship between Fulton County District Attorney Fani T.
