Lita Lewis has been in the fitness industry for a while and is passionate about helping people become the best versions of themselves, no matter how that may look for them as an individual. She is brave, wears her heart on her sleeve, and shows up for people in a way that allows them to be the best versions of themselves.   Lita’s Awakening Lita shares how she takes ‘coming alive’ a bit further by focusing on awakening the soul. “I do find myself living with a lot of passion and purpose which has given my life meaning, which has then turned into true health and happiness.” She recalls feeling empty when she was working a corporate job in NYC. She didn’t want that to be her life. “In movement, I found a new spark.” But it didn’t fix everything. “How do I give time and energy to this inner fitness?” Lita began to meditate, pray, write positive affirmations on post-its, and create vision boards to help he reach breakthrough.   Being By Yourself Finding time to herself before used to mean spending time outside, but that has changed due to the global pandemic. During COVID-19, she finds her moments alone by going into the bathroom for a bath or shower, turning all the lights off, lighting a bunch of candles, and listening to music.   Word Association Alive? Awaken. Movement creates: freedom. Eat for: fuel and enjoyment. Desert island food? Mango. Your center? Absolute peace. “It’s finding that inside voice when the whole world is chaotic.”   Gratitude Adam shares a moment he expressed gratitude for everything Lita does that caused her to tear up. Lita shares how she sees her ability to listen as one of her biggest gifts from God; being a parent is a gift she feels she is still growing into. In 2016, I worked with Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign in an initiative to decrease childhood obesity throughout the public school system. Through my works, I gained a sense of awareness that surpassed the fitness realm. Over 85% of the young girls that I worked with developed a strong tendency to not get healthy, but workout for vanity purposes causing an automatic habit of comparing themselves to others. Those inundated with social media posts developed a psyche that was more harmful than good. Self-esteem and mental health issues skyrocketed and created a longterm negative effect on their thought process. Though my observations, I began to carve out my work to integrate not just fitness, but the totality of wellness. Through this, I founded my nonprofit, Beyond the Body Inc., in an attempt to help young women develop a sense of self-love. Most recently I partnered with a clothing brand, Beautiful In Every Shade, that debunks stereotypical ideologies of beauty. Well, today I will be interviewing a very special lady that I met throughout my work. My guest today is Lita Lewis, fitness influencer and philanthropist that teaches young women how to become the best version of themselves, whether skinny, or curvy frame. Keeping up with the Joneses is not just reserved for material objects. Today, more than ever, keeping up with the Joneses means measuring up with your body and physical appearance as well. For decades, if you wanted to fit in with the fitness “in” crowd, slim and lean was the standard. Think, Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, Brad Pitt in Fight Club, and Robin Givens in Boomerang. No rolls, no back fat, no thick thunder thighs were welcome. In fact, having too much thickness just might make other people uncomfortable. All the while, ultra-slim models can prance around essentially naked, and no one bats an eye. Now, just to be clear, being super slim and lean is not the problem. That’s absolutely awesome for some people! But, who decided that that was the definition of what healthy looks like? What we’ve come to accept as the ideal picture of health has led to a lot of body dysmorphia, and a subtle to strong belief that we’re just not good enough. You may eat healthy most of the time, workout consistently, get plenty of sleep, and even meditate occasionally. But, because your body doesn’t look like “their” body, you just don’t realize how amazing you actually are. Today, I want to make a change in the way that we view health and fitness.
