Send us a textWouldn't it be nice if postpartum recovery was included in the NHS services, as they should be? Rather than NHS GPs making Instagram commercials for private, and expensive, postpartum recovery programs we should ALWAYS be pushing for FREE access for women. The Americanisation of British healthcare is a real problem and, the truth is, we would not accept this if this was happening for anything other than postpartum recovery?Imagine NHS GPs advertising for people to get cataract treatment private. Or saying that "loads of people come to me with a broken leg so I tell them to buy X-program"!It is outrageous that an essential service is being outsourced and that many women are being priced out of access. So that's what I spend the first 15 or so minutes talking about, then I move on to "pelvic floor or diastasis recti?".One of my PT colleagues, who is also a client, asked why online recovery programs now seemed to focus much more on pelvic floor in their advertising than they do on diastasis recti? What is the reason behind this change? Have the programs changed??As always; HPNB is, and always will be, FREE for 3 months. If you decide you want to do the rest of the program, after only 5 months of paying $10/£8 a month you now get FREE LIFE TIME ACCESS! The Government plans to cut the budget for nature friendly farming in England by £100m, according to a report in the Guardian. It claims that civil service sources say the cut is needed to help fill a £22 billion treasury shortfall. The reduced spending could affect the new Sustainable Farming Incentive which replaces the old EU system, paying farmers for environmental benefits produced on their land. Nature and farming groups have reacted with consternation. We ask how significant would a cut of £100m be.All this week we are looking at how land use is changing, as public and private investment is brought in to fund environmental schemes.  With increasing green finance opportunities, more and more companies are stepping in to broker deals between farmers and investors. Natergall's business model is to deliver ecological restoration on its own land and that of others, and to commercialise the results. It's that time of the year when tractors are out along countryside roads, cutting back the hedges. Hedge specialists are calling for farmers to cut their hedges less frequently to benefit wildlife.Presented by Anna Hill and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

Great technology is not enough to build a successful business. You need customers who understand its benefits, and are willing to pay for them. This is why storytelling is a key part of commercialising innovation. Lauren Xandra, Head of Marketing at Two Sigma Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in deep tech, talks about her role in building successful tech businesses and how she transitioned career into deep tech. Learning notes from this episode: "Just as important as supporting startups' technical growth, is helping them to be understood and able to tell a story that no only resonates with their end users, but also with potential corporate partners and outside investors, who are often less technical," says Lauren. Venture Capital is usually a job that people transition into, rather than start their careers in. 68% of venture capitalists in the US have backgrounds in start-ups, according to research by Diversity VC. "Making a strategic career move requires thinking entrepreneurially," says Lauren. This means investing time and effort into activities that will pay off in the long run, but not today, like volunteering for start-ups or accelerators. Australia does a lot of great science, but has a poor record of translating that science into benefits for society. At least, that's what the education minister has been telling us. This week we talk to an eminent Australian scientist to hear about a home-grown translational medicine success story -- and to find out what barriers still stand between basic research and commercial applications. This week we talk to Prof Bob Graham of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, a specialist in molecular cardiology and cardiac regeneration. He and his team have discovered a way to convert the venom of the Australian funnel-web spider into a drug that can reduce brain damage after strokes and improve heart recovery after heart attacks. An amino acid peptide derived from this venom may one day be injected into stroke and heart attack victims in the ambulance before they even reach the hospital. How important is basic science for medical research? Why does basic science have to be done here, in Australia? Why can't we just rely on science done overseas for applications in Australia? What's the difference between commercialisation and translational medicine? Our regular host Salvatore Babones will be asking Prof Graham these questions and more as we hear the story of an incredible medical discovery and learn why basic science in the public interest. Bob Graham is the Des Renford Professor of Medicine at UNSW and was the inaugural director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. He spent a substantial portion of his career in the United States, where he rose to become the Robert C. Tarazi Chairman of the Department of Molecular Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and a Foreign Member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.

Today Pete speaks to Sly Tha Deuce, author, music publisher and songwriter. He also coaches and provides resources to artists to help them build wealth whilst they build fame. Originally from Colorado Sly has been inspired and influenced to succeed by the people he was surrounded with growing up. He now wants to pass this joy onto others. Listen in today to hear about how he does this, his take on the music industry, his philosophies about life and more! KEY TAKEAWAYS Music has always been Sly’s medium of expression. You can listen to music and not even understand the lyrics but you can feel the emotion through the musical composition. Commercialising music can be incredibly difficult as you are trying to monetise passion and art. This is something Sly helps musicians with. Fire in the belly for Sly is whatever you do to leave you imprint on the world. For Sly, seeing what others in his life had and what level they were at is what gave him the motivation to be who he is today. It really opened his eyes to the type of habits and mindset he would need to embody to have a successful and fulfilled life. Only we as individuals are aware of our own personal pain so when we hear another person express that pain through music we truly resonate with it. Sly wanted to build a life where he was proud of what he was doing every day. Where what he is doing fits into his goals and vision. He doesn’t want to just cherry pick best moments and the rest be bearable, he wants to enjoy his entire life. Sly states that you should always follow your heart. You can even handle bad situations well if you handle them with some love. It’s important to not look back at things with regret. He doesn’t want to have a ‘regret jar’ to open when he is old!   BEST MOMENTS “It just resonates with me in a way that other things don’t” “The same passion that you put into making that music should be applied to making sure that someone hears it” “It’s personal to everyone that’s the beauty of it [Fire in The Belly]” “My superpower is knowing people”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to Fire In The Belly Podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fire-in-the-belly/id1499375061)!   ABOUT THE HOST The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton’ from the ‘Mighty 247’ company is your main host of ‘Fire In The Belly’.  Pete is an Entrepreneur, Mentor, Coach, Property Investor, and father of 3 beautiful girls. A week ago, Dr Jen Frahm, a Melbourne-based global expert in change and organisational transformation, posted the following tweet: @jenfrahm - Twitterz - thoughts on who has done a good job of being associated w multiple brands? eg portfolio of biz? I have Dr Jen Frahm, Agile Change Leadership Institute, Busting Silos & about to add another - curious who manages the brand side well? Does visual coherence matter? Jen's tweet resonated with Trevor Young, the host and publisher of Reputation Revolution. As someone who writes about, and works closely with, professionals who have built businesses off the back of their personal brand, Trevor has seen first-hand the dilemmas that come with commercialising one's reputation, for example: Personal brand vs business brand - which should receive more priority?Should I be developing a series of products as sub-brands, or not?And what about building bona fide sideline businesses instead of products - will this detract from my personal brand? So many questions, and no right or wrong answer, of course. A lot depends on your personal circumstances and your goals. So Trevor thought it would be a good idea to get Jen on the podcast - along with her friend and colleague, branding specialist, Kate Ware, from BuzzPop Brands. The idea was: "Let's just have a chat about this and share our thoughts and ideas on the podcast." So that's what this episode is about: an informal 'roundtable conversation' between Trev, Jen and Kate, in which they dissect the pros and cons of collaborative sideline businesses, sub-branded ventures and product ecosystems, and what's the most effective way to build out the business behind one's personal brand. When organising socially-focused or activist events, we're faced with a range of choices. DIY is a lot of fun, until everyone burns out. Commercialising activities in order to pay the bills often runs counter to the central political values of activist groups. The funding landscape seems to offer a sort of third way, a path out of burnout and financial ruin, without needing to cater to brands or chase profit. However, it comes with its own set of difficulties and barriers to success. Discussing the positives and pitfalls of the funding cycle are Lena Szirmay-Kalos (Montag Modus), Sky Deep (Reclaim the Beats Festival/Reveller Records), Jana Braun (Bezirkskulturfonds Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg), with moderation by Lucy Alice Thomas (Give Something Back To Berlin). Jon's back from Indonesia and is experiencing reverse culture shock as he returns 'home' to London. From that unstable vantage point, in this catch-up episode we talk about getting things done, why closing 'loops' in your day-to-day life is essential for your mental and emotional health, and how to take meaningful action in the absence of clarity. In aid of those goals, Andrea's adopted a policy of having no boundaries with other people. But how can that possibly work long term? We debate how to tame our psychological disposition to look for problems rather than positives, and why the grass is ever so much greener wherever you are not. Jon also went to One Last Talk, an event designed by our friend and sometime mentor Philip McKernan. There, ordinary people stand up and speak as if this was the last thing they could ever share with the world. Political rants and 5-step success plans are strictly off the table here. You can't tell the audience what they should do with their life, only share aspects of yours which feel more true than any Tony Robbins tribute act could manage. Now Jon's somehow agreed to give his own One Last Talk– but what should it be about, and how do you know when it's the right time to do it? Also Including: Willpower: do we have a finite amount? Mary Henderson is a personal branding specialist based in Melbourne, Australia. She helps coaches, consultants, business owners and corporate executives define their personal brand and convert their expertise into a business solution that solves a complex problem. In this wide-ranging chat with Trevor Young, Mary  Building a personal brand that can be commercialisedContent is not IP; it needs to be turned into a methodologyThe importance of mastering one craft to position ourselves as an authority in that particular spaceWhy you need to understand your 'end-goal'Having an agile mindset is "absolutely critical"Content is king, "but volume content is a whole new level" Mary's LinkedIn video strategy Mary also unpacks her LinkedIn content strategy, which is really starting to pay dividends for her profile and her business. Video is her go-to media format, and she breaks them down into themed series She started with daily videos: "The engagement has been fantastic ... some posts reach 5000 views, ten, twenty, forty, even 50,000".  Mary is now experimenting with posting on LinkedIn three times a day, two of which are videos. Most of Mary's videos are pretty "raw", although if she's targeting them at the C-suite, she will record them in in her home studio. And here's the kicker: Mary reveals that it took at least six months of producing content daily on LinkedIn to effectively position herself as an authority in the personal branding space. By month nine, now the leads are starting to flow in from all over the world. But wait, there's more! Perceived credibility brings business benefits. Mary says the third part to all of this is once you establish your 'go-to' status, people start perceiving you to be the top of your field and understand you're not going to be "the $299 (per hour) coach". "They already know that," she says. So in essence, according to Mary, the "six-to-nine month mark is where it's the game-changer". But, she reiterates, content is fundamental. THE GIFT OF DESPERATION. This week Words With Oz hosts a man of many experiences, Geoff Jowett. Geoff is on a mission to make a dent in the world's obesity crisis and he's got a thick resume of experience to help get it done. I'd been following Geoff for some time on social media and have thoroughly been enjoying his message. Geoff's story is one of incredible triumph and unnerving desperation, all of which he now uses to improve the lives of others. From being the head of a $35million+ company to bankruptcy, it's all raw, it's all real and it is all in this podcast. Geoff's specific question was: "Dedicating a life to helping others achieve their happiest and healthiest self inevitably faces the minefield that is commercialising a service heavily vested with emotional dependability. What safeguards do you apply to your method that ensure clients results whilst maintaining your own life and level of living?" We spoke of Geoff's ongoing battle with seeking fulfillment while understanding the need for a commercial end, his views on spirituality, as well as just how low he was. This conversation has plenty of insights worthy of anyone looking to be inspired. As a teenager, Kevin Scarce lacked discipline, motivation and passion. A far cry from the man who would become a top Navy official, the 34th Governor of South Australia, business leader and University Chancellor. Kevin was pushed into the Royal Australian Navy College by his father. He intended to cruise through his studies but the threat of being thrown out of the college was a much needed wake up call. He truly came of age during the Vietnam War, where the Navy exposed him to the best and worst of leadership. Kevin shares what he learned about teams and people at sea. While he didn't actively pursue high ranking positions promotion naturally followed. Kevin's passion for the job, and commitment to ongoing learning, led to a strong understanding of Defence commercialisation. This would open up his world beyond the military, where he would earn the respect of both business and government. After retiring as South Australia's Governor, Kevin recently headed up South Australia's Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission. He puts talks about the case for Nuclear, the community response, and whether this is a "silver bullet" for the SA economy. In his role as the University of Adelaide's Chancellor, Kevin also sees a bright future for education. Wine is a beautiful thing. But gee, it can be pretentious. South Australian winemaker David Bowley, founder of Vinteloper, has made it his mission to create "grown up fun". To cut out the bullshit and cliches of the wine industry, and create wines that people simply love. Even if they can't adequately describe the characteristics ("Mmmm, the tannins ..."). David has built of a community of wine lovers from all over the world, where he demystifies wine terminology and shares insights via his blog and social media. For David, Vinteloper is deeply personal. Every wine tells a story, and has been produced, quite literally, hands on. Wine is as much about the experience as it is the taste. This led to formation of the Urban Winery Project, an event that brings the wine regions to the city, and enables people to do it Lucille Ball style and get up to their ankles in grapes while being fed by Australia's top chefs. David has produced wine especially for the Urban Winery Project and, in a Rooster Radio exclusive, the boys got the first taste. PHENOMENAL. David also talks about his unique approach to wine marketing, as well as insights into the wine industry in Australia - vital to our economy, but can we do it better?
