We've never been more connected, and we've never been more alone. Men have endless ways to reach each other and almost no reason they'll actually use them. We don't reach out. We don't check in. We won't pay another man a compliment without slapping "no homo" on the end of it to make sure nobody mistakes us for caring. And somewhere along the way, we decided that the first flowers a man receives should arrive at his funeral. This week, AJ Kazmierczak joins the show to tear that pattern apart. We get into why connection is the single most valuable skill a man can build, how to develop it on purpose, and why most guys would rather avoid the discomfort of self-auditing than face what's actually holding them back. We talk accountability, discernment, evolving without losing yourself, and what it really costs to be the kind of man other men want in their corner. Send Carolyn a textI'm joined by Winnipeg runner Darolyn Walker for a powerful and perspective-shifting conversation about running, resilience, and redefining what success looks like.Darolyn's story spans more than two decades — from competing at a high level in her university and national track days, to navigating a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in her mid-20s, to raising three children while continuing to train, race, and adapt through unpredictable health challenges. We focus in particular on her remarkable performance at the Boston Marathon, where she ran 3:05:37 while living with MS — a result that sits at the intersection of high level performance and deep gratitude for simply being able to run.But this conversation isn't really about times or records. It's about identity, acceptance, letting go of old definitions of success, and finding meaning in movement through changing seasons of life.SPONSOR: Cure Hydration. Is it possible to have everything—and still be missing the one thing that matters most? That's not just a philosophical question. Scripture gives us real-life examples of people who appeared successful by every measure, yet walked away empty. On today's episode, Bob Shank—founder of The Master's Program—joins us to help unpack how Jesus challenges our definition of wealth and invites us into something far greater. Why the Desire for “More” Is So Universal Across cultures, generations, and economic backgrounds, one desire seems to unite us all: the desire for more. According to Bob Shank, that longing isn't inherently sinful—it's actually part of how God designed us. From the beginning, God created humanity with a mindset of multiplication (Genesis 1:28). We were wired to grow, build, and increase. But sin distorts that desire, redirecting it toward the wrong things. The problem isn't the desire for more—it's what we define as “more.” God calls us to pursue more of what truly satisfies: His presence, His purposes, and His Kingdom. Why Wealth Never Fully Satisfies Even when people pursue wealth responsibly and achieve their financial goals, something often still feels incomplete. Why? Because, as Bob explains, redemption reshapes our desires. When the Holy Spirit renews our hearts, we begin to long for something this world cannot provide. What once satisfied us begins to feel insufficient. That lingering dissatisfaction isn't a flaw—it's a grace. It's God's way of reminding us that we were made for more than material success. As Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has put eternity into man's heart.” The Rich Young Ruler: A Case Study in Misplaced Wealth Few stories capture this tension more clearly than the account of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16–22, Mark 10:17–22, Luke 18:18–23). Here was a man who had everything—wealth, influence, and moral discipline. Yet he approached Jesus with a revealing question: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” On the surface, it sounds like a spiritual question. But beneath it was something deeper—a longing that success had failed to satisfy. Jesus' response is both familiar and often misunderstood: “Sell your possessions, give to the poor… and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21) Most people focus on what the man was asked to give up. But just as important is what Jesus was offering: treasure in heaven. Jesus wasn't condemning wealth—He was redirecting it. What Is “Treasure in Heaven”? Bob Shank highlights a key insight: the word “treasure” in this passage points to abundance—something stored, secured, and lasting. Jesus wasn't asking the man to lose his wealth, but to relocate it. Instead of storing up treasure in an uncertain, temporary world, Jesus invited him to invest in something eternal—something protected and secure. As Jesus teaches elsewhere: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19–20) The issue wasn't possession—it was placement. The Deeper Question: Who Owns It All? At the heart of this encounter is a foundational question: Who really owns your wealth? Many of us live as though what we have is ours now, and someday it will belong to God. But Scripture paints a very different picture: “The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.” (Psalm 24:1) Everything we have already belongs to Him. We are not owners—we are stewards. And what we do with God's resources in this life has eternal significance. A Warning from the Rich Fool This truth is reinforced in another parable: the rich fool (Luke 12:13–21). In that story, a man accumulates more than he needs and decides to build bigger barns to store it all. His goal? Independence. Security. A future free from reliance on God. But God calls him a fool. Why? Because he stored up treasure for himself but was “not rich toward God” (Luke 12:21). The problem wasn't planning or saving—it was hoarding beyond purpose. God's design is clear: Provide for your needs Prepare for what's next Distribute the excess for His purposes Undistributed resources, as Bob puts it, become spiritually irrelevant. Redefining What It Means to Be Rich So what does it look like to be truly rich? It means shifting our perspective from short-term gain to eternal investment. In the world of finance, we understand that longer-term investments often yield greater returns. Jesus applies that same principle spiritually: The greatest return comes from investing in what lasts forever—God's Kingdom. This doesn't mean neglecting wise financial planning. It means placing our ultimate hope, security, and purpose in something beyond it. The Invitation: From Accumulation to Alignment The rich young ruler walked away because he couldn't let go of what he thought defined his security. But Jesus' invitation still stands for us today: Move your treasure Reframe your definition of wealth Align your resources with God's purposes Because in the end, the richest life isn't the one that has the most—it's the one that uses everything for what matters most. In this Mindfulness in Action episode, I'm recording on a trail run and thinking out loud about something I've been re-examining in my own life: the pressure to constantly optimize and get better. We hear it everywhere: be more productive, improve every day, maximize your time. And while growth and striving for excellence matter, I've been noticing how easily that mindset turns into pressure, guilt, and a constant feeling of not doing enough. In this episode, I share how I've been unlearning that pattern, what it actually means to “strive well,” and why doing less can sometimes lead to better performance, creativity, and well-being.I also guide you through a simple mindfulness practice you can do while moving to help you notice:Where you're putting pressure on yourselfThe inner voice telling you to do moreHow to reconnect with contentment in the middle of effortThe goal isn't to stop growing, it's to redefine what getting better actually looks like. If you've been feeling stuck in the cycle of always needing to do more, this one's for you.Other meditations:- Slowing Down the Rush- How to Regulate Your Emotions for Resilience and Performance- How to Combat Self-Criticism--------------The Grow the Good Podcast is produced by Palm Tree Pod Co.
About Jason LangeMany men are struggling right now as the old paradigms of what a "man" is supposed to be are no longer relevant or even appropriate. Men's work is where we discover healthier ways to be in the world, and where we as men can shed the old "lone wolf" way of being. I started my men's work journey in my 20s after suffering from years of loneliness, discomfort in my body, and a deep struggle to create romantic relationships. Of all the work I've been doing for the last 20 years, men's groups have been the most impactful in changing the quality of my life day to day, and it's now part of my mission for every man to be in a men's group, so they can feel healthier in their expression in the world, create more vital intimate partnerships, and be of service to their families and communities.https://evolutionary.men/
Host Annika Brockschmidt sits down with historian Thomas Zimmer for a wide-ranging conversation about the politics of history in the age of Trumpism—and why Zimmer ultimately decided to leave the United States after years teaching at Georgetown and return to Germany with his family. Reflecting on the increasingly hostile climate for scholars and public commentators, Zimmer discusses how harassment, threats, and the broader erosion of democratic norms shaped that decision. From there, the conversation turns to a deeper historical question: how the Trump administration and its intellectual allies are attempting to reshape the story Americans tell about their past. Brockschmidt and Zimmer analyze recent speeches and rhetoric from figures like Donald Trump, JD Vance, Marco Rubio, and Senator Eric Schmitt, arguing that the contemporary right is moving away from the traditional language of American ideals toward a vision rooted in ancestry, heritage, and “blood and soil” nationalism. They place this rhetoric in historical context, tracing the long-running conflict between civic and ethnic visions of American identity—from the nation's founding through the Civil Rights era and into today's MAGA movement. The result, they argue, is not simply partisan messaging but a broader political project aimed at redefining who counts as a “real” American and rolling back the pluralistic aspirations that emerged from the civil rights revolution. Is “age-appropriate” just another way of saying “lower your expectations”? In this episode of The Aging Well Podcast, Dr. Jeff Armstrong and co-host Corbin Bruton challenge one of the most misleading and limiting phrases in the language of aging. They explore how so-called “normative data” can normalize decline, why labeling activities or ambitions as “age-appropriate” often discourages growth, and how true wellness depends on redefining what's possible at every age.Through the lens of the six pillars—exercise, diet, body composition, sleep, stress, and social connection—Jeff breaks down what the science really says about aging potential and performance. From exercise myths to social stereotypes, this episode reclaims the idea that aging well means living fully, not cautiously. Please, support The Aging Well Podcast by hitting the ‘like' button, subscribing/following the podcast, sharing with a friend, and….BUY the products you need to… age well from our trusted affiliates and support the mission of The Aging Well Podcast*.The Aging Well Podcast merchandise | Show how you are aging well | Use the promo code AGING WELL for free shipping on orders over $75 | https://theagingwellpodcast-shop.fourthwall.com/promo/AGINGWELLAuro Wellness | Glutaryl—Antioxidant spray that delivers high doses of glutathione (“Master Antioxidant”) and the all new Copper Tripeptide (GHK-Cu) | 10% off Code: AGINGWELL at https://aurowellness.com/agingwellpodcastBerkeley Life | Optimize nitric oxide levels | Purchase your starter kit at a 15% discount | Use the promo code: AGINGWELL15 | https://berkeleylife.pxf.io/c/6475525/3226696/31118Oxford Healthspan | Primeadine®, a plant-derived spermidine supplement | 10% off code: AGINGWELL | https://oxford-healthspan.myshopify.com/AgingWellJigsaw Health | Trusted supplements. “It's fun to feel good.” | Click the following link and use the code AGINGWELL for 10% off: https://www.jigsawhealth.com/?rfsn=8710089.1dddcf3&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=8710089.1dddcf3KneeMo | A smart device programmed to reduce your knee pain and keep you moving. | Click the following link and use the discount code AGINGWELL15 for 15% off: https://thekneemo.com/ref/agingwellProlon | The Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) is a revolutionary five-day nutrition program scientifically formulated to mimic the effects of a prolonged water fast while still allowing nourishment - supporting the benefits of fasting without the challenges and risks that come from water-only fasts. | For the best available discount always use this link: https://prolonlife.com/theagingwellpodcastL-Nutra Health | The medical division of L-Nutra, focused on helping people manage and potentially reverse chronic health conditions, like type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity, using personalized, lifestyle-based programs grounded in evidence, not prescriptions. | Use this link: https://l-nutrahealth.com/theagingwellpodcastThrive25—Your personal longevity advisor | https://www.thrive25.com/early-access?via=william-jeffreyFusionary Formulas | Combining Ayurvedic wisdom with Western science for optimal health support. | 15% off Code: AGINGWELL | https://fusionaryformulas.com?sca_ref=9678325.IHg5xYhdOzzke8ZrDr Lewis Nutrition | Fight neurodegeneration and cognitive decline with Daily Brain Care by Dr Lewis Nutrition—a proven daily formula designed to protect and restore brain function. | 10% off code: AGINGWELL or use the link: https://drlewisnutrition.com/AGINGWELLTruDiagnostic—Your source for epigenetic testing | 12% off Code: AGEWELL or use the link: https://shop.trudiagnostic.com/discount/AGEWELL*We receive commission on these purchases. He's one of the NCAA's brightest young stars, and his recent sophomore season proved why.Kole Mathison, the 2022 Champs Sports Cross Country national champion, and now a rising junior steeplechaser for the University of Colorado, joins the show fresh off a breakout year on the track and a strong start to the 2025 cross country season. Just weeks ago, Mathison placed 10th at the Nuttycombe Invitational, helping the Buffs to a runner-up team finish; another sign that Colorado's storied distance tradition is alive and well. But the journey from Carmel, Indiana to Boulder wasn't linear. After winning a national title in high school and representing Team USA at the 2023 World U20 Cross Country Championships, Mathison faced an injury during his freshman campaign. What followed was a lesson in patience and consistency, culminating in an 8:32 steeplechase personal best and NCAA qualification in 2025, plus impressive indoor marks of 7:52 (in the 3,000m) and 13:42 (in the 5,000m) on the fast Boston University track. From national champion to NCAA contender, Kole's trajectory is proof that patience, belief, and relentless work still define greatness in collegiate running.Tap into the Kole Mathison Special. Christopher Anderson (born in Kelowna, raised in Texas, now based in Paris) first gained international recognition in 1999 for his powerful images aboard a sinking boat of Haitian refugees — a body of work that earned him the Robert Capa Gold Medal. Over the next two decades, as a Magnum Photos member, he evolved from conflict and documentary photography to deeply personal explorations of family, color, and emotion. In this conversation, Anderson reflects on how his work has never been a series of shifts but a continuous evolution — from chaos to intimacy, from reportage to reflection. We talk about his acclaimed trilogy on his wife and children, the influence of the Texan light, the illusion of a universal visual language, and why artificial intelligence will only make authentic human vision more valuable. His advice to young photographers is clear: create the work you need to make, and let the career follow. What does independence really mean for neurodiverse learners, and how can families set them up for long-term success? Host Michelle Zeman welcomes Christine Drew and Kristin Lombardi to discuss their book Spectrum of Independence, which offers families a structured yet flexible framework for building independence. They explore how small, consistent steps - like breaking down daily routines into teachable parts - can lead to big changes over time, while also addressing the challenges of burnout, resistance, and fading parental support. Listeners will gain insight into why services often fall off after age 21, why early preparation matters, and how parents can move from doing for their child to empowering them with the tools to do for themselves. The authors also highlight how teaching independence protects boundaries, supports consent, and reduces vulnerability to abuse. They also examine the risks of overprotection, the importance of teaching boundaries and consent, and the need to prepare families for the “services cliff” when supports drop off after age 21. This detailed discussion blends professional expertise with relatable family stories, making it a valuable resource for caregivers, educators, and practitioners alike. Real Life Runners I Tying Running and Health into a Family-Centered Life
This week, we're diving deeper—not just into outdated strategies that no longer serve us as runners over 40, but into the powerful role identity plays in our running journey. As runners, we can define ourselves by pace, distance, or race goals. But over time, that performance-based mindset can start to feel limiting—or even discouraging. In this episode, we talk about what it means to step into a new identity: one that prioritizes long-term health, strength, and the joy of movement.Angie and Kevin both share their own evolutions as runners, and together we offer practical tips for embracing the identity of a lifelong runner—someone who listens to their body, trains smarter, and finds meaning beyond the stopwatch. We also unpack the power of language and self-belief, and how the words we use can either reinforce old habits or help us create new ones.If you're navigating this transition too, we invite you to reevaluate how you see yourself as a runner and align your strategies with where you are now—and where you want to go.And don't forget—we've got a free five-day running challenge starting May 12th! The rise of artificial intelligence raises questions regarding creative ownership and intellectual property rights. Recent events surrounding Studio Ghibli highlight concerns over how AI can replicate and distribute a creator's unique style without permission. Copyright law is designed to protect original works from unauthorized reproduction, yet rapid technological advancements challenge this framework. AI can generate images resembling a specific style, posing risks to current copyright protections by taking advantage of loopholes. The economic impact includes potential undermining of Studio Ghibli's brand value and confusing audiences about genuine versus AI-generated art. Trademark law addresses brand identities, and AI-generated art that misrepresents itself may infringe on these rights. Intellectual property laws require reform to accommodate AI's influence on creativity while balancing innovation with the protection of artists' rights. Without regulatory measures, the risks to human creativity and originality could reshape the creative landscape.Learn more on this news visit us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. What happens when inspiration doesn't strike but you still need to show up? Is it possible to live an inspired life without constantly chasing big, bold visions? Most of us think of inspiration as dramatic flashes of insight or overwhelming passion that propels us toward magnificent achievements. But this narrow definition leaves most of our lives—and many types of people—out of the "inspired" category. In this illuminating episode, I challenge this limited view and introduce a three-dimensional framework that makes inspiration accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstance. We dive deep into the multidimensional concept of inspiration and explore how to find it even when we don't feel particularly animated or resonant. • Inspiration isn't just grand epiphanies but exists on three levels: macro, meso, and micro• Macro inspiration refers to big visions, life purpose, and seeing your journey from a higher perspective• Meso inspiration involves breaking down big goals into steps and finding motivation for monthly focuses• Micro inspiration centers on finding magic in day-to-day moments, even when not working toward big goals• The heart serves as a gateway to soul wisdom and helps us move past fear to follow inspired paths• Barriers to inspiration are opportunities to pause, reflect, and perhaps approach our goals differently• True inspiration involves showing up consistently, taking small measurable steps, and seeing yourself as the hero of your own storyWhether you're feeling creatively blocked, between major life purposes, or simply wanting to experience more aliveness in ordinary moments, this episode offers practical wisdom for rekindling your inner spark and recognizing the inspiration that's already present in your life.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. In this week's solo episode of the Journey to Launch Podcast, I explore the concept of wealth and what it means to be truly rich. While wealth is often defined by an abundance of money or material possessions, I discuss the distinction between "visible wealth" (like possessions) and "invisible wealth" (such as financial security, time freedom, and health). I also emphasize the importance of avoiding comparisons to others, especially in affluent environments, and instead focusing on your own financial journey. In this episode I share: How exploring middle school options for my oldest son has me questioning the true value of wealth and financial freedom Why you should reflect on how you view wealth and financial freedom in your own life. How different people may perceive wealth and how it can lead to misperceptions about one's financial status. Why it's crucial to appreciate the wealth you already have, without seeking external validation. How to find value in the invisible wealth that people cannot see, such as being healthy, having strong relationships, having savings, and being able to pay bills on time. In this episode, Dr. Dunni explores the myth of perfection, particularly in the context of motherhood. She emphasizes that striving for perfection is unrealistic and encourages listeners to define their version of "perfect" by accepting reasonable and unreasonable flaws. Dr. Dunni shares personal anecdotes and practical strategies for self-improvement, such as dedicating just 10 minutes a day to personal growth activities like journaling or walking. KEY TAKEAWAYS Striving for perfection is unrealistic and often leads to unnecessary guilt and self-criticism. It's important to redefine what "perfect" means personally, acknowledging that flaws are a natural part of life. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your growth. Set realistic goals and compare your progress to your past self rather than others, as everyone has a unique journey. Begin your self-development journey with small, manageable steps. Dedicate just 10 minutes daily to activities that enhance your physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual well-being, such as journaling or walking. Incorporate your children into your self-development activities. This not only sets a positive example for them but also creates a supportive environment where both you and your children can learn and grow together. Learn to say no to avoid overcommitting yourself. Establishing boundaries is essential for maintaining your well-being and ensuring that you have the time and energy to focus on your personal growth. BEST MOMENTS "Being perfect is truly a myth... we need to create expectations that are realistic for ourselves and for those around us." "Perfect is... Please Expect Reasonable and unreasonable Flaws, Especially as I Continue Trying." "Your journey of self-development is like a marathon. It's not a sprint." "When you say no to something or to someone, you are saying yes to you." "You need a supportive community... people who would say, hey, I've got you, I see you, I hear you."
