You’re going to want a comfy chair for this one. This week, my guest is Daoist Monk Yun Rou. Yun Rou is a brilliant interpreter of ancient ideas for a modern ear--if you’ve read his book The Mad Monk Manifesto you’ll know what I’m talking about. We got heavy into social media and how it affects us, why you might know more about Daoism than you think, and how Daoist philosophy can offer us a different, more holistic view of everything; from our own minds to the workings of the universe. If you consider yourself a seeker, this is the episode to listen to. Called the new Alan Watts for his teachings and the Zen Gabriel Garcia Marquez for his writings, Daoist Monk Yun Rou (formerly Arthur Rosenfeld) received his academic education at Yale, Cornell, and the University of California and was ordained a monk in an official ceremony at the Chun Yang Daoist Temple in Guangzhou, China. His work has appeared in Vogue, Vanity Fair, Parade, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, WebMD, Fox Business News, and numerous other websites and newspapers. His more than 20 award-winning non-fiction books and novels of magical realism focus on philosophy, history, compassion, and culture. From 2010 – 2013, he hosted the hit (reaching 60MM households) national public television show Longevity Tai Chi with Arthur Rosenfeld. The American Heart Association profiled Yun Rou as an inspirational resource in 2016. Monk Yun Rou began his formal martial arts training in 1980 and has studied with some of China’s top Chen-style tai chi grandmasters. In 2011 he was named Tai Chi Master of The Year at the World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In July 2014, Yun Rou joined the heads of the five tai chi families on the dais, representing American tai chi, at the International Tai Chi Symposium in Louisville, Kentucky. ~ AWAKENING HUMANITY ~ Sam Liebowitz, will discuss all types of topics to help you raise your awareness. [EPISODE] Mad Monk Manifesto This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour, Sam welcomes Renowned Tai Chi Master, Author, Novelist, TV Writer & PBS Host, Monk Yun Rou. According to Monk Yun Rou--Yale educated, South-Florida based author of 15 books, Tai Chi Master and Daoist monk ordained in China--if we adhered to the principles set forth around 500 BC by Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching, we wouldn't be in this mess. In his latest book, Mad Monk Manifesto: A Prescription for Evolution, Revolution, and Global Awakening, he weighs in on the great issues of today and how we humans are undermining our existence, not just environmentally, but by creating a toxic focus on self-interest that poisons our politics, lifestyle, health, parenting, technology, human interaction, and much more. Using those basic principles--take your cues from and exist in harmony with nature, live simply, be authentic and humble, serve others, do no harm, stay calm and creative in the face of resistance, honor your own body, live peacefully-he lays out how things could be different if the Daoist filter was applied to just about everything. But the most powerful experience of his life stemmed from gritty, glorious months in the Paraguayan jungle as a field biologist, which deepened his commitment to Daoism and nature. Tune in for this transformational discussion at www.TalkRadio.nyc Segment 1 Mike Dooley and Universe tell us that our goals and dreams come from an alternate reality where they are already attained. When we push ourselves to our goals we are bringing the elements from the alternate reality into ours. On the other hand, Abraham brings in a sentiment of law of attraction and resonance. When we put our energy into the things we want for our lives those vibrations will resonate with things, people, and feelings that will come into our lives. Like attracts like. Everyone has a unique life and everyone's perspective will be true for them, but this has no influence on anyone else's lives. Segment 2 Sam and Yun Rou talk about his studies and spiritual journey. Yun Rou has been studying these principles for almost his whole life, but was simply too young to fully grasp some of the concepts. Later in his life Yun Rou found a master to teach him and guide him. Yun Rou has found himself living a public life as a monk rather than isolate himself as per custom and tradition. Segment 3 Yun Ruo begins by talking about his book Mad Monk Manifesto and he says it's not a book for the faint of heart. He was inspired to write the book after watching a speech from President Trump. He was so angered that he decided to find a way to control his emotions and reactions to others. The main takeaway from this book is that “It's not all about you”. Yun Ruo then explains what the “sixth great extinction” means. This term is used to describe the time we are in right now where we are having an extreme loss of biodiversity across the planet. He believes that most people aren't concerned with how we're treating the planet. If everyone can take it upon themselves to make little changes in their lives than he believes we can fix things. Sam adds that being ecologically minded is good for yourself and the human race regardless if there is a climate crisis or not.  Segment 4 Sam and Yun Ruo brings it back by discussing the importance of questioning the motives behind things you usually take for granted. These questions include how we live, how we eat, and how we treat each other. Must of the traditional ways of through are taught to us by people with an agenda. It's crucial to think for yourselves and come up with conclusions on our own. Yun Ruo then talks about the success of his book and the social media response. He also talks about six new books that he has in the pipeline, the one coming out next is called Turtle Planet. It's easy to get outraged by world events, frustrated by our own personal battles, and disenfranchised from government and leadership. Born of moral indignation, informed by decades of study, and seasoned by a life of devoted self-cultivation, today's special guest Monk Yun Rou's book Mad Monk Manifesto. This book has the answers we're looking for, organically cohering personal prescriptions and calls to social and political action in one powerful document. Based on ancient Chinese wisdom such as Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching, Mad Monk Manifesto is part tour guide to consciousness, part recipe for personal development, part prescription for environmental salvation, and part handbook for social change. In the same way ripples move away from a stone dropped into a pond, Mad Monk Manifesto begins with our personal lives, discussing topics such as diet, exercise, meditation, and mind/body practice, and spreads to our public environment, describing ideas such as what we can do to improve the community, the government, and the world. Emerge with a new way of seeing life, a series of concrete steps to take for personal transformation, and an action plan for working in the community to provoke change.  Daoist Monk Yun Rou (formerly Arthur Rosenfeld) received his academic background at Yale, Cornell, and the University of California. In 2012 he was ordained a Daoist monk at the Chun Yang (Pure Yang) Daoist Temple in Guangzhou, China, one of the first Westerners to be so honored. Yun Rou believes in the beauty and power of story and in the importance of compassion. Blending literature, biology, and medicine with an orthodox Daoist education, his writings and teachings propagate Daoist ideas and focus on environmental conservation, and political and social justice.

Authors on the Air Host Pam Stack welcomes Monk Yun Rou to the studio to discuss his book MAD MONK MANIFESTO. About my guest:  Born Arthur Rosenfeld in America, Yun Rou (the name means Soft Cloud) was ordained a Daoist monk in China. Host of the hit national public television show "Longevity Tai Chi with Arthur Rosenfeld", he is the author of award-winning titles and teaches tai chi around the world and in South Florida.  About Mad Monk Manifesto:  Based on ancient Chinese wisdom such as Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching, Mad Monk Manifesto is part tour guide to consciousness, part recipe for personal development, part prescription for environmental salvation, and part handbook for social change. In approximately 70,000 words, the book’s six chapters (framed by an introduction and afterward) follow the traditional Taoist prescription for changing the larger world by changing ourselves first.  Mad Monk Manifesto is precisely what the world needs at a time of unprecedented environmental disasters, international instability, and divisive and unreliable leadership. After reading this book, you will learn: How to relax, rectify, and rebalance lifeHow to bolster the community and deepen cultureHow to effect positive change in commerce, government, power, and the environment For readers of Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle, and Change Your Thoughts—Change Your Life by Dr. Wayne W.
