The Southern and Hollywood crew continues their Rise of Memphis Football series where they discuss the 2013-2014 Tigers' regular seasons up to the Miami Beach Bowl.
In episode 95 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler and GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield discuss the latest in Memphis football and basketball. Memphis coach Penny Hardaway and the Tigers got a massive one-point victory over South Florida earlier this week, and Fowler and Stubblefield break down the positives and the negatives from the conference win. As far as positives go, the duo breaks down performances from Alex Lomax, Lester Quinones and DeAndre Williams. Lomax has been bad for the majority of the season, but he was the biggest reason Memphis escaped with a victory. Lomax was a massive presence on the defensive end of the floor, and Quinones and Williams combined for 19 points in the second half alone. The duo explains why these three players were so important and how important their energy and effort were during the game. Another positive Fowler and Stubblefield took away from the game was Hardaway's decision to shorten the rotation late in the game. Instead of trying to play nine or 10 players, Hardaway only allowed seven players to touch the floor late in the game, which is another major reason the Tigers won the game. Next, they begin discussing the negatives from the game, which center around the player of Landers Nolley and DJ Jeffries. Nolley hasn't been great offensively over the past several games, and he was nonexistent down the stretch against the Bulls. Jeffries has also struggled over the past two games offensively, and the duo explains why they believe he hasn't been as effective on offense. Finally, the GT247 crew gives their full synopsis from the 2020-2021 football season. Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield and the Tigers finished the year with an 8-3 record, and Memphis got their first bowl victory since the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl against BYU. Fowler gives grades for Silverfield's first year as a head coach, the outlook for next season and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In episode 94 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen, GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield and GT247 vet Jonah Jordan discuss the latest in Memphis football and basketball. To begin the episode, Fowler and Jordan discuss the recent additions of Michigan State transfers Devontae Dobbs and Julian Barnett. Dobbs and Barnett are the two highest-ranked player to ever commit and sign with Memphis, and coach Ryan Silverfield was able to do that in a matter of hours. Dobbs is a 6-foot-4, 304-pound offensive lineman and Barnett is a 6-foot-2 cornerback/wide receiver, and both players have the potential to make an immediate impact for the Tigers. Fowler and Jordan also go into detail about how much better Memphis has gotten thus far with the 2021 class and the two big time transfers. Next, the GT247 crew previews the Montgomery Bowl between Memphis and Florida Atlantic. The Tigers and the Owls will play on December 23 at 6:00 p.m. CST, and Memphis will be looking for their first bowl win since the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl. Throughout the preview of the game, Fowler, Jordan and Hansen break down why Memphis should win this game and what they need to do to ensure that they come back to Memphis victorious. This will be Brady White's last game in a Memphis uniform, so the players will likely give their all for him. After all the positivity in the football discussion, the mood and tone of the podcast shifts very quickly when the subject moves to basketball. Penny Hardaway and the Tigers lost a game that they definitely should've won against Tulsa, and the loss was a microcosim of the season up to this point. Memphis looked terrible offensively, and they made too many mistakes at the end of the game. The crew gives their thoughts on the loss, and they explain why they believe the Tigers are struggling so badly this year. From the coaching to the players and every aspect in between, the GT247 crew gives their brutally honest opinions. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This was a really special edition of BangTheBook Radio on Tuesday December 13 with our Tuesday Meeting show. Host Adam Burke is always fortunate to chat with a couple of professional handicappers in Bryan Leonard and Sports Cheetah. This week, the Sports Wagering Talk and the Hunting for Winners segment merged into one. Adam was able to chat with both guys at the same time and it was a great opportunity to bounce ideas and concepts off of two intelligent sports bettors in real time. This segment focused on both college football and the NFL. With a handful of bowl games coming up here this week, those were the spotlight games during this conversation. The New Mexico Bowl, the Las Vegas Bowl, the Camellia Bowl, the Cure Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl and the Miami Beach Bowl were all topics of conversation with a variety of different approaches and handicapping techniques discussed throughout the show. The NFL games under the microscope were Los Angeles vs. Seattle, Detroit vs. the New York Giants, and also Cleveland vs. Buffalo. All of these games have a lot of intriguing and fascinating wagering angles, so it was important to chat with the professionals about their approaches to games and to see what may work and what may not work this week. Finally, Cheetah and Bryan had a few thoughts on a listener question pertaining to college basketball money line parlays and the effectiveness of betting those.

At 25:57 we move on to the NFL, taking a look at just how bad the NFC East really is. At 35:40 we switch gears to discuss college football, looking at the ridiculous number of bowl games, assessing USF's bowl draw and discussing Coach Taggart's new deal. And at 48:14 we move into non-sports, listing our top and bottom 3 movie and TV reboots.
