The time has come! The Hilltoppers are returning to the Big Dance for the 7th straight year. In what could be the final episode of the 2025 Tops Live Volleyball Podcasting season, broadcaster Reily Chestnut wonders what is going through Head Coach Travis Hudson's mind as the Tops make their 18th trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Tops sit in the same subregional as three other opponents from the regular season. How does that familiarity help WKU prepare for their first-round collision with Marquette's Golden Eagles? This week on JMO, the boys suffer through an LSU performance so sluggish you'd think the offense was running through quicksand, blindfolded, & in slow motion. If you watched it, you deserve a medal. But somehow, Josh & Joe uncover actual positives and bottle them up like rare optimism — proof that the future might not be doom and gloom after all.Breaking: The Lane Train roars back into the conversation like it owns the tracks. Where is it headed now? Coaching destiny? Disaster? Both? The boys start mapping out the route like conspiracy theorists with red string. Meanwhile, Joe may have cracked Florida's coaching code — and if he's right, Gators fans might owe him royalties. And just when Dan Lanning called this week's CFB slate boring, college football said hold my beer. Upsets broke loose, nostalgia hit like Big 12 football circa 2010, and chaos reigned beautifully. If LSU caused emotional pain, the Saints game straight-up waterboarded the fanbase.LSU vs. WKU suddenly looked like the Rose Bowl compared to that Saints-Dirty Birds disaster. The boys dig through the ashes attempting to find something — anything — positive, while simultaneously unloading trauma that probably belongs in therapy and not on a podcast (but hey, content is content). They diagnose Eagles fans mid-breakdown, defend why Jameis deserved to walk away a winner, and watch the Colts shock us… right up until they remembered they're playing the Chiefs and sabotaged themselves accordingly. This episode has it all — pain, hope, delusion, chaos football, and emotional damage served fresh.0:00 intro/weekend update5:10 lsu vs western Kentucky recap15:40 lane kiffin coaching decision27:35 college football recap50:25 college football picks59:15 nfl recap1:14:45 nfl picks
Richard Johnson and Alex Kirshner guide you through the coming Rivalry Week in college football, going through dozens of games with 1) playoff stakes, 2) conference championship stakes, and 3) none of those stakes at all, because many of these week's games don't need them to be fascinating. Among the many, many games that we discuss on this episode: * The Egg Bowl: “Distractions” shouldn't matter here. Right? * Georgia vs. Georgia Tech: Why we're not discounting the Yellow Jackets, despite their defense falling off a cliff lately * Texas A&M at Texas: At least half of this podcast thinks the Longhorns are about to pull the upset at home. Why? * Miami at Pitt: A bad matchup for the Panthers, but could Carson Beck gift them a chance at an upset? * Clemson at South Carolina: Which fanbase would be more despondent? * Kentucky at Louisville: Have the trajectories here flipped? * WKU at Jacksonville State: Will the Gamecocks prove harder for WKU's defense to stop than LSU's offense was? * Vanderbilt at Tennessee: Why are we a little nervous about the Dores?* The Iron Bowl: Again, why does at least half of this podcast think the home team is going to pull the upset? * And finally, in THE MAIN COURSE presented by Modelo, we've got Bill Landis of “Bill and Doug on Ohio State Football” in the house. Bill gets us up to speed on this Ohio State season and talks about the Buckeyes' path to ending their four-year drought against Michigan. And much, much more. Episode Notes Through her teaching and broadcasting contributions, this week's very special guest has certainly made her mark on the campus of Western Kentucky University! She is Dr. Erika Brady, who spent over three decades serving as a professor in WKU's Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology. Erika is also the long-time host and producer of "Barren River Breakdown", a show featuring a wide range of folk and bluegrass music, heard weekends on WKU Public Radio. Come along as Dr. Brady describes her inspiring educational pursuits, including a degree from HARVARD, and explains how she ultimately found her way to Bowling Green. She also reflects on a few of the courses she taught, details the labor of love invested in each episode of "Barren River Breakdown", and discusses the creative means by which she remains active in her retirement years. After listening to our conversation, I think you'll agree there isn't a whole lot that Dr. Brady hasn't at least attempted! Richard and Alex preview Conference USA, as the league adds Delaware and Missouri State. In this episode:* Liberty remains the favorite, even with a downgrade at QB* Sam Houston is primed for regression after 10 wins and a coaching change* WKU goes back to a strategy that has worked time and again: portaling an entire offense from a lower-level program* UTEP might have a bit of juice under Scotty Walden* Jacksonville State slams the reset button after winning the league and seeing Rich Rodriguez return to West Virginia* FIU has … reason for optimism?* Missouri State is making an ambitious play by jumping to FBS, and we aren't sure it will work out well—at least not in the win column* Delaware looks poised for a smoother transition* Kennesaw State will be much more interesting, but still not good* Middle Tennessee is hunting for reasons for optimism* Louisiana Tech's coach looks to forestall what might be inevitable* New Mexico State makes changes after a turbulent offseasonProducer: Anthony Vito This is a public episode. The Southeastern 16 crew breaks down and offers predictions for the Oxford Regional of the 2025 NCAA baseball tournament. Topics include: Ole Miss saw bullpen improvement that offset the loss of starter Mason Nichols thanks to a bullpen of Mason Morris, Will McCausland, Walker Hooks, Cade Townsend, Hudson Calhoun and Gunnar Dennis that pitched its best at season's end. The Rebels were one of the nation's home-run leaders thanks to Austin Fawley (17), Mitchell Sanford (15 HR), Judd Utermark (16), Isaac Humphrey and Ryan Moerman (11) and Will Furniss (10). The Rebels nearly won the SEC tournament; can they carry that momentum into a home regional? Georgia Tech brings a star-studded lineup led by potential 2026 No. 1 MLB Draft pick Drew Burress, Kyle Lodise and Alex Hernandez that hit .315/416/.538 as a team. Does Tech have the pitching to bring home a regional crown? Western Kentucky is a two-seed that could be better than some threes in other regionals. The Hilltoppers were paced by Conference USA player of the year Ryan Wideman (10 HR, 45 SB) as part of a lineup that hit 70 homers and swiped 126 bases. A pitching staff of Drew Whalen, Jack Bennett, Lucas Hartman, Gavin Perry, Dawson Hall, Cal Higgins and Patrick Morris helped WKU to a 3.35 ERA, which ranked as third-best in the country. Murray State hit .301/.419/.497 as a team and might be the toughest four-seed in the field. Can the Racers slug their way to wins with Jonathan Hogart and Carson Garner (16 homers), Will Vierling (10) and crew?
Alex Kirshner, Richard Johnson, and Dave Campbell's Texas Football senior writer Mike Craven discuss the state of the offseason in Conference USA, a league that was spicier than most of us expected in 2024:* Jacksonville State loses the braintrust behind a conference championship and will now be completely different* WKU's run as the cradle of coordinators continues* FIU tries an ultra-Floridian approach* Sam Houston restarts with Phil Longo, who has school ties* Kennesaw State is just trying to be in less disarray* Liberty overhauls in the portal as it looks to bounce back* UTEP is quietly building something intriguing under Scotty Walden* Middle Tennessee emerges from a Year Zero* New Mexico State deals with broader athletic department turmoil* Louisiana Tech continues to ride it out* And the league soon adds a couple of new members, Delaware and Missouri State. We'll get to them in season previews. It's not time yet.Meet the Offseason Vibe Check: It's not a 2024 recap, and it's not a 2025 preview. It's a check-in with every team in every FBS conference about what's been happening since Thanksgiving. How was the postseason? How was the coach carousel? How was signing day? How was the transfer portal window? And is anything else going on around your program?Producer: Anthony VitoElsewhere in Offseason Vibe Checks* SEC* Sun Belt* ACC* Big 12 This is a public episode.
