The Buffalo Bills rallied past the Indianapolis Colts in their 2022 NFL preseason opener by a score of 27-24 Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium, extending Buffalo's preseason winning streak to nine games as the Bills have not lost a preseason contest since Aug. 26, 2018. On this week's episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico break down what they liked and what they didn't like from Buffalo's latest preseason victory. Among the positives for the Bills: The play of Buffalo's rookies, including WR Khalil Shakir, CBs Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford, LBs Terrel Bernard and Baylon Spector, P Matt Araiza, and undrafted rookie RB Raheem Blackshear. A dominant performance from DE Boogie Basham, S Jaquan Johnson, WR Isaiah Hodgins, DT Tim Settle, and CB Cam Lewis. Third-string QB Matt Barkley rallying the Bills from a 24-10 second-half deficit. The Bills avoiding major injuries. Buffalo's backups pulling out a win over the Colts' backups. Among the negatives: The play of backup QB Case Keenum (and why fans shouldn't be worried about Keenum backing up Josh Allen this year) Miscues from veteran WRs Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow Rookie T Luke Tenuta being beaten for a strip sack of Keenum Sloppy play (five turnovers and 11 penalties for 90 yards). 3-28-2022 Passed Ball Show. John spends the first part of this program talking about how the NCAA's Seeding Committee has failed those who follow the College Basketball Tournament. John cites the fact that there have been seven instances in which a 15th seed (or lower) has won a first round matchup in the past eleven (11) years. (Six 15 seeds and one 16 seed.) John blames the less than stellar emphasis on ranking the teams that receive automatic bids (teams that won their conference tournament, etc.) and questions how their ranking and seeds in the tournament are quantified. John then talks about Baker Mayfield and questions whether he compromised his future by playing hurt last season. John talks about the percentage at which a player plays hurt and compares it to the player(s') replacement at 100%. John is convinced that James Harden at whatever (20%?) percent he played in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals put the team at a disadvantage and had he not played, the Brooklyn Nets would have had a better chance of defeating the Milwaukee Bucks. John feels the same way about Baker and his backup, Case Keenum. After some unexpected Deshaun Watson discussion (and support for the QB and his defense), John questions where Albert Pujols will finish numbers wise when his MLB career comes to an end.
