Even though Jo has some hope for Scout and her illness, she's still tense. Jo and her friends find an old fashion stress reliever in an odd place. Cw: Discussions of illness and death throughout the episode as a major themeCw: recreational drugs as a major themeCw: Discussions of divorce  24:04-24:32Cw: graphic description of an abortion 25:14-26:41Cw: man yelling a lot 25:41-26:41Thank you all for sticking with us during these hard times. When we started finishing season 2, we had no idea how relevant a plot about the struggles of illness and physical disability in a falling apart system would become. We always hoped that a podcast about how we believe people come together in times of struggle rather than tear each other would be relevant, it just has become more relevant now than ever. Times are scary but people are helping, please look for the helpers but also, just as important, accept help if you need it. Created by J.J. Ranvier and edited by Rory Strahn-Mauk. Enrico Fermi posed to his colleagues in 1950 that if aliens exist, where the heck are they? The Fermi paradox is a conflict between arguments of scale and probability that seem to favor intelligent life being common in the universe and a total lack of evidence of intelligent life having ever arisen anywhere else. Drew has been pondering this pseudoparadox since he was a science-interested young person devouring Sci-Fi novels and films, and as an adult he's been able to explore more of both the stats that have gone into the probability of ET life and the filters that life has to pass through into continued existence. The result is his structuring a wonderfully interesting dialogue about the existence of non-Earth-based intelligent life and why we may not have seen it yet.  The Street Wizard's Apprentice from Muscular Clown Competition Kitchen from The Nerdologues

In 1999, Sega stormed(?) the video game world with the release of their Dreamcast. Except no one really talks about it any more. Let's fix that with this week's Talking Games, in which Tim, Clayton, and Kellen invite guest Shawn Bowers to chat about the System that Kind of Was. Was the Dreamcast ahead of its time or just kind of weak? Also, what's up with Leonard Nimoy's Seaman? Thanks to our sponsors for this episode, Know Your Company, courtesy of the Chicago Podcast Coop! DID YOU KNOW: War Games is not just a movie -- it's also a genre of game! This week, Tim and Clayton chat about some of their favorite examples as well as their hopes for the future (and come up with some rad ideas that aspiring game developers MUST NOT STEAL). Also, in a nostalgic throwback, the lads return to Clayton's basement to record this one! What mishaps will befall Tim?? Just yesterday Kotaku released an article about "Final Fantasy Disease," which, according to Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata, prevents both fans and Square employees from accepting any changes in a storied franchise. What do you think about that? How do you balance the desire to do something new with the long, beloved history of a popular gaming franchise? These are pretty deep questions, but the Talking Games boys are ready to tackle them -- plus Kellen talks a lot about Doom.  Thanks to our sponsors for this episode, Cards Against Humanity -- and thanks to the Chicago Podcast Coop for hooking it up! Fellow member of the Nerdologues Joe Gennaro sits down with me to tap some lands and cast some spells as we weave tales about the incredibly popular deck-building card game Magic: The Gathering. I learn what WUBRG means, how awesome a God pack is, and a bunch of other nerdy fun things along the way (this game has the possibility of creating an infinite number of squirrels....). Joe and about half of the other members of the Nerdologues have been raving about and obsessing over MtG for almost a year now, so it was fun to get even more insight on this game they love so much. I'll probably end up sitting down to play a game or two myself at some point in the not too distant future, but until then I'll continue to enjoy making up fake magic cards with Joe's guidance for all the hypothetical possibilities of gameplay.

Nerdologues member/webmaster/genius Steve Persch graces the MBSing hot seat to jam about all things website building. Or at least as many things we had time for plus some other tangents. Listen to my gears churn as I try to keep up with the details, and stand in awe as you listen to someone with a theatre degree describe how he turned a challenge into a career (and a hobby) through self-teaching. Steve is such a jack of all trades, and hearing him compare certain aspects of website building to certain aspects of improv was especially interesting. He really does an excellent job explaining the way each of those passions informs the other in his life.   Notes: NURD - Northwestern University Radio Drama The Vietnam of Computer Science @drupalhaikus

Tim Dunn (of the fellow Nerdologues-produced podcast Talking Games with Tim and Clayton) is on the show to talk about a relatively new-found love of being busy. We never really spend much time defining what we think being busy is, but we do get into a LOT of topics and aspects of our lives affected by our levels of commitments and plans (dating, working, comedy we see and work on, what we do when we aren't busy, etc). It ends up being a great, fairly stripped down conversation about what we like and don't like about our lives as they are. At one point Tim apologizes for choosing a bummer topic, and I apologize for talking about myself too much. He didn't need to apologize because it is not a bummer topic. I still feel like I did! But I really love this ep.  Notes: The Shock T's Opener I reference Some of Joan Rivers's joke archive.
