April 15, 2005. Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. After taking the day off work and leaving on a road trip, 59-year old Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar fails to return home and is reported missing. The following day, Ray's abandoned car is discovered 60 miles away in the town of Lewisburg, parked across the street from an antiques mall. Over the course of the next several months, Ray's county-issued work laptop and its hard drive are discovered in the nearby Susquehanna River, but the hard drive is too damaged to recover any data. A number of different theories are pushed forward, which include Ray disappeared voluntarily, completing suicide by jumping into the river, or becoming the victim of foul play, possibly in connection to the infamous Penn State child sex abuse scandal. However, there is no conclusive evidence pointing to any of these theories and Ray Gricar is never found. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Pennsylvania State Police at (814) 355-7545. Ray Gricar was an eclectic man. He enjoyed his job, sports and antiquing. 8 months before he was due to retire he went out for a drive and to look for some vintage treasures and never came home. Did he commit suicide, was he killed or did he leave his life behind to start anew?

District Attorney, Ray Gricar, was months away from retirement in April 2005. He woke up on the morning of April 15, 2005, and just wasn't feeling like going to work that day. He decided to take the day off and go for a drive. He told his girlfriend he wanted to do some antique shopping, and she agreed it would be good for him. When Ray didn't return home that night, he would be reported missing. Was his disappearance due to a distraught criminal from one of his cases? Was it related to the Jerry Sandusky scandal that plagued Ray's career? Was Ray considering ending his life? His car would be found on April 16, and in July, his laptop was found in the Susquehanna River. The hard drive had been destroyed. Rumors and theories would swirl. But Ray remains missing. Episode 15 Dana Bailey In 1987, Penn State senior Dana Bailey was the victim of a man police believe was stalking her. He watched her from an adjacent building, and one night he scaled rooftops and climbed into her apartment and murdered her. Dana was found posed in a sexually suggestive manner, and police believe her killer did this so he could enjoy his handiwork. Anonymous letters and calls from tipsters kept investigators busy, but police never had any good suspects in this case – every lead went cold. Dana Bailey's case took a twist when the DA assigned to her case, Ray Gricar, went missing in 2005. He has never been found – and Dana's case remains unsolved. Ray Gricar was a District Attorney in Pennsylvania that went missing in 2005. As with a lot of missing person cases, there are three theories: Ray took his own life, foul play, or he walked away to start a new life. But, what is different in this case than in most missing person cases, is that there are pretty strong circumstances that could support any of the three options. Support the show

A decade before the scandal of coach Jerry Sandusky dismantled the Penn State community, a local attorney, Ray Gricar, was the first to investigate his case. But a few years later, Gricar disappeared. Was there a connection? Lester Holt reports in this Dateline classic. Originally aired on NBC on December 16, 2011.
"The state police used a helicopter to search for two hours along the banks of the Susquehanna River, near where his car was found, for any signs.... Investigators also used a bloodhound to try to pick up his scent, to no avail."On 15 April 2005, Ray Gricar called into his office and took a half-day off of work. The 59-year-old Ohio native worked as the District Attorney for Pennsylvania's Centre County, and despite having plenty to do that Friday, nobody thought twice about the esteemed prosecutor taking time off of work, as he had been complaining of fatigue for weeks. That evening, Ray would fail to contact his girlfriend, Patty Fornicola, who he lived and worked with. She called 911 at approximately 11:30 PM, resulting in a desperate search for any sign of Ray or his vehicle... Final Argument: The Disappearance of Ray Gricar, District Attorney
We begin to tie together the disappearance of Ray Gricar with the Second Mile Charity. Also includes an exclusive and shocking interview with Bruce Castor, former District Attorney of Montgomery County, PA.
In 2005, Pennsylvania district attorney, Ray Gricar, took the day off work. He wanted to go for a relaxing drive. He never returned home and his family reported him missing. His car is found abandoned the next day. His court appointed laptop is later found in a river with the hard drive removed. Was he abducted? Did he walk away to start a new life? Or did he take his own life just as his brother did 9 years earlier? A bigger conspiracy is revealed and some interesting computer searches that may be related.
Welcome back! To you and us. Sorry for the delay in episodes. Today we discuss the Casket Girls who became known as vampires...kind of. The second story covers the conspiracy and disappearance of Pennsylvania DA Ray Gricar.
Ray Gricar was planning to retire in January 2006 when he mysteriously went missing in April 2005 after a supposed leisurely drive in his red Mini Cooper. Ray Gricar was a celebrated prosecutor in Pennsylvania who went for a ride one day and merely vanished. Unfortunately, there are more theories than evidence in this case. For the 100th episode of Criminology, we're tackling two cases of murdered prosecutors that some people may be related. Ray Gricar was a prosecutor in Pennsylvania who was murdered in 2005. Jonathan Luna was a federal prosecutor with the United States Attorney's office in Baltimore, Maryland who was killed in 2003. Both men were found in rural areas of central Pennsylvania. The investigations into both of these murders revealed some very interesting information. But, police have not been able to prosecute a single person for either of the murders. Questions are numerous in both cases. Were these cases connected in any way? Did either of these men have something to hide that ultimately factored into their deaths? Were their deaths related to their jobs as prosecutors who had put a number of really bad people in jail over the years that might want retribution? this week Kota tells us the disappearance case of district attorney Ray Gricar and we discuss possible theories on why he went missing. Crystal covers the abduction and murder of five year old April Jones from Whales, England.
Fifty-nine year old Ray Gricar had worked as the Centre County District Attorney for nearly twenty years. Having given most of his life to law, he decided that this would be his last term and in January of 2006 he was set to retire... but Ray would go missing nine months before his last day in office. On April 15th, 2005 Ray decided to skip work and to go for a drive down to Lewisburg, a quiet little town some fifty miles away. He had been there often, and enjoyed visiting the local antique stores. On this particular day, though, Ray never came back. After being out of contact for twelve hours, Ray's girlfriend, Patty, contacted police who immediately began searching for Ray. Nothing would be found until the next day when his vehicle was discovered in a parking lot in Lewisburg. The car smelled of smoke, and there were cigarette butts outside, but Ray was not a smoker. The deeper law enforcement probed into the case, the more questions they had. When they discovered that Ray's county issued laptop was missing, and he'd been google searching on how to destroy a hard drive, their interest was piqued. When his laptop was discovered in the Susquehanna river, without its hard drive, investigators were baffled. What was so important that the drive needed to be destroyed? In the years following, many theories came forward. Could Ray have taken his own life? Was it murder, either by someone he'd sent to prison or perhaps a trusted friend? Or, did Ray choose to leave his life behind, fleeing the country in hopes of avoiding some yet to be discovered issue?Join host Steven Pacheco as he explores all of the chaos and confusion surrounding this sad and confounding disappearance.Use promo code TRACE19 for 10% off a standard pass to CrimeCon! On April 15, 2005, Centre County, PA District Attorney Ray Gricar told his girlfriend he was taking a day off to go for a scenic drive and check out some antique stores. But as day turns to night, and night becomes the next morning, Ray never comes home. Soon his car is found abandoned next to a bridge, and it seems as though another person may have been inside. As time passes, we learn somebody disposed of his laptop as well. But the trail ends there. Was Ray murdered? Did he commit suicide? Or leave voluntarily to start a new life? Join host Ryan Kraus for an examination of what lies beneath the surface in this case.
The Lindsays are doing a final episode about mysterious disappearances, after which that topic will not-so-mysteriously disappear! So this week it's the MV Joyita, Dorothy Arnold, Frederick Valentich, Joan Risch, Ray Gricar, Béla Kiss, the Sodder Children and Louis Le Prince. We'll be back with a new episode next week (unless we mysteriously disappear, which we... probably won't).
5 MOST UNEXPLAINED & CREEPY DISAPPEARANCES EVER When people disappear, the standard questions are often: What happened to them and Where did they go? But sometimes, there are disappearances that go way beyond that and the stories behind them can be scary and even seem outright impossible. These are the 5 Most Unexplained & Creepy Disappearances Ever. 5. Frederick McDonald During the1920s Frederick McDonald was a prominent Australian politician. Initially a teacher, he rose to prominence and soon ended up becoming the representative for the Barton Labor Party in 1922, winning against the Nationalist Party candidate. McDonald was part of the parliament for three years until he was defeated by a small margin in 1925 by Nationalist Candidate, Thomas Ley. He contested the results, admitting that Ley even tried to bribe him into quitting by offering him £2,000 dollars. 4. Granger Taylor Granger Taylor stood 6'3". He was big and burly and considered by many to be a self-taught mechanical genius. Despite dropping out of school in the 8th grade, his aptitude for building various mechanical devices and restoring old machines was impressive. At14 years old, he created a fully functional one cylinder automobile. When he turned 17, he rebuilt an old bulldozer that other professional mechanics had already given up on. By his early 20s, he trekked through the deep woods to recover a locomotive that had been abandoned during the Depression. Despite its horrible state, he hauled the remains piece by piece back to his home and restored the train to its full glory in just two years. It was bought later on by the Province of Columbia and put in a museum. His fascination with machines grew and he then bought an old Kitty Hawk plane, restored it and sold it to a collector in Manitoba for $20,000. Always looking for a challenge, he set his sights onto creating a flying saucer. 3. Jim Thompson Known as the "Thai Silk King," Jim Thompson revitalized the dead Thai silk industry into the now revered craft it is today. However, his reign ended when one day he went out for a walk and never came back. Thompson was one of the most famous American millionaires living in Asia during the 1960s. He designed a traditional Thai house right in the middle of the city. He once studied architecture at Princeton so he combined his love for traditional Thai houses along with a modern aesthetic, creating a beautiful set of structures made from durable teak wood. His home was decorated with his extensive antiques collection and so today The home remains one of the most famous tourist attractions in Thailand. 2. Ray Gricar Twelve years ago, district attorney of Centre County in Pennsylvania, Ray Gricar took a day off, went for a drive and never came back home. Ray had served as DA for the county from 1985 to 2001 and During his tenure, he handled several well-known cases but the most famous was his involvement in the Jerry Sandusky case. In his personal life, Ray was famously private. However, he was a charmer and known womanizer. He had been married and divorced twice and had an adopted daughter named Lara, with his first wife. At the time of his disappearance, he was living with his girlfriend, Patty Fornicola. 1. Diane Augat On April 10, 1998, 40 year old Diane Augat was seen walking away from her home in Florida at around 11:00 AM. The next day she was walking along route U.S 19, and that was the last time anyone ever saw her. On April 13, Diane called her mother's home but no one was there to pick up so it went to the answering machine. On the message, Diane could be heard seemingly struggling with someone trying to grab the phone away. She was heard saying, "Help, help, let me out." And then she was heard saying, "Hey, gimme that" right before the call ended. When the call was traced, it led to a business called Starlight but when her mother called back, no one answered.

After serving multiple terms and finding love, he was starting to plan for his new life. With plans to visit his daughter and to visit Europe, it seemed as though life was just where he wanted it to be. But in 2005, Ray decided to take a day off work and travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania where he liked to visit the Street of Shops which included an antique store. After hours go by with no word from him, his girlfriend, Patty Fornicola, calls the police. They are able to locate his car, but there's no sign of Ray. After months go by, his work laptop and then its hard drive are located, but both are badly damaged and reveal no answers. Or did he take his own life just as his brother did nine years earlier? With a long list of suspects and possible scenarios, can we figure out what happened to Ray Gricar?

Theories at the time ranged from suicide to walk-off, but years later, a high profile case made people wonder if something more sinister had taken place.
