We discuss the mysterious Toledo Speedboat disaster of 1930. On a hot Saturday morning in June, 1930, eight Toledoans set out on a speedboat to attend an Elks picnic on Pelee Island and never made it. Their boat would be found spinning in circles without a soul onboard. The well to do men would be found dead a few days later and rumors began to circulate about what happened and who was responsible. In our next story, we explore the long history of the Ghost Ship of the Ohio River, the Sachem. This luxury liner has a very long history of entertaining many well to do of the East Coast elite as well as serving the military where Thomas Edison conducted experiements to bootlegging, to fishing charters to sight seeing touring and a wild journey through the middle of the country to where it sits today, at a tributary off of the Ohio River. When Ohio was still considered the countries frontier, legendary Wyandot leader "Leatherlips" helped broker peace deals with the European settlers. This didnt sit well with his fellow tribesman and would ultimately cost him his life. A striking monument stands today in his memory, evocative of the legendary "Sitting Bull" monument. Overlooking the Scioto Rive in Dublin, Ohio, this limestone monument stands today as a tribute to the legendary warrior chief. Traveling West, is the infamous "Blue Hole" of Castalia. Once rumored to have no bottom, this crystal clear pool dumps millions of gallons into the Sandusky Bay each day. Once attracting over 165,00 people each year, this location was closed in 1990 and is in private hands today. However, similar type pools are located close by that you can visit. You can even win a chance to be one of the lucky few to have a chance to visit the original park. Finally, did you know that Ohio had an amusement park that is only open 4 days a year? On the cold dark morning of January 10, 1954, in a lonely rail yard a railroad work would observe a mysterious figure of a man, slipping away into the darkness of night, slinking away from the tracks. Almost immediately, the railroad worker would observe the corpse of a woman, having experienced severe trauma and very much dead despite a lack of blood at the scene. The body would identified as Mary Grimes Wallace and the mystery was underway. In 1942, Hitler ordered German saboteurs be sent to America with resources to blow up industrial infrastructure and hinder the United States in supplying its forces and allies in World War II. In 2003, a badly decomposed body was discovered near a West Carrollton dam of the Great Miami River, in Montgomery County. When word got out that it was an elderly black woman, there were two Dayton-area families who anxiously awaited for the coroner to make an announcement. Despite rumors of a crash into Lake Michigan, other stories began to appear of the plane being spotted years later. Nobody really knows what happened and the mystery continues to this day. We discuss the mysterious 1940 death of Noreen Mozee. Mrs. Mozee would embark on the luxury liner, SeeAndBee in Cleveland, Ohio on an overnight journey to Buffalo, NY. However something went wrong along the way and Noreen Mozee would go missing, along with her money and jewelry until her battered body would be discovered washed up on the beach on Geneva-on-the-Lake. She was not identified at the time and buried in a paupers grave. When her identity was discovered, the mystery only deepened. Was she murdered? Was it suicide? Was he crew involved? In 1975, boxing great Muhammad Ali faced off against an underdog - Chuck Wepner - in a match held at Summit County's Richfield Coliseum. Wepner held up for almost 15 full rounds, and even scored a rare knockout against the reigning world champ. The 21 year old Miss Volpe was a governess of an area family and was visiting her mother in Lorain when she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Her body was soon found nearby at the base of a cliff on the shores of Lake Erie prompting an investigation that would soon unveil dark stories, rumors and conjecture about her death. In 1941, the US government fined a Dayton-area farmer for planting more wheat than was allowed per a new law hoping to stabilize a market that had wild fluctuations due to the war. Roscoe Filburn refused to pay the fine and filed a lawsuit instead, saying his wheat had nothing to do with the econmy - he grew it for his family and his livestock. In 1944, a fire at the Ringling Brothers circus in Hartford, Connecticut became one of the worst tragedies in American history, killing at least 168 people and injuring 700 more. Investigators blamed a carelessly thrown cigarette for igniting the flame that took down the big top.
