POPULARITY
We all take hundreds of photos on our travels these days, but I was keen to chat with Nicole Smith, founder of Flytographer, about how their network of photographers take this to the next level in many popular travel spots around the world. Nicole is an avid traveller who caught the travel bug young, and after a very unfortunate photographic "accident" on a long trip through Asia, she realised just how important having photos to job our memories can be. Nicole and I chatted about what it means to be a thoughtful traveller, the benefits of meeting up with local people in the places we visit, and more about how special our photographic travel memories can be. Strategic pricing strategy matters. Marketing methods that used to work in the past are much more nuanced these days. This episode tackles strategic pricing strategy and how to approach discounts - who to offer them to, when, and how. This on-air coaching call features one of our unique and brilliant Sales Maven Society members, Nicole Smith Levay. Nicole is a transformational retreat leader and somatic coach who helps high-achieving women stop over-giving on autopilot and learn to prioritize themselves and their soul work. Nikki and Nicole dive into Nicole's concerns about her current pricing and promotional tactics. They investigate why the "inner circle" discount approach may be ineffective and explore how to structure pricing tiers for maximum impact. There is power in rewarding action-takers and early adopters. Nikki talks about how predicting who your buyers will be can backfire and shares a better approach for maximum impact. We also learn about increasing lifetime client value. Whether you need help with launches, unsure about discount strategies, or looking to boost sales without devaluing your services, this episode is packed with actionable insights on Strategic Pricing Strategy. Nikki invites you to join the Sales Maven Society. Take advantage of this opportunity to work together with you and Nikki. In This Episode: [01:11] Nicole is a transformational retreat leader and somatic coach. She helps women put their soul work first. She does this through somatics, breath work, and meditation. [02:24] She also has a group coaching program called Forward Momentum. [03:50] She helps women take their businesses from year one to three to four to seven more smoothly. [04:10] Nikki agrees that in business we reach levels where we know something has to give or change. [06:08] To make the changes we want to make in our lives, we can't keep acting on autopilot. We need to pause and check in with our bodies and see what's going on. [07:50] Nicole also hosts retreats. In two weeks, her group is going to Santorini and Crete and the theme is Connect with Source Energy. [11:17] This call is a coaching session. [11:41] Nikki has helped Nicole move through resistance and fears. [11:41] Nicole's question for this coaching session is about marketing her programs. [13:19] Her tried and true formula that she's been using for retreats isn't as effective for digital programs. She's not sure if it's how she does the launch or if it's her pricing structure. [14:24] Marketing has changed. Offering special pricing for an inner circle doesn't work as well as it used to. [14:50] It's fine to have tiers with a sequence attached. You could have a rollout and a launch with an email sequence attached to it. [15:06] Nikki tested this last year. [15:46] Nikki loves to reward action takers. Implementers get results. Implementers are often people who buy right away. [17:17] Don't be overly strategic in trying to predict who your buyers will be. Share your offer with the entire list. [17:32] Don't try to hit the trifecta. You don't really know what the right offer at the right time for the right buyer is. [18:53] Just put your offer out there to everyone. [20:04] Some elements in Nicole's past efforts might be about having control for who's right fit for her offers. [21:11] Have a small first step workshop to increase the lifetime value of clients and build trust. Give people an opportunity to get that first touch. [23:13] How can we put a really great offer in front of people that will allow them to dip their toe in the water? [25:27] Is there a way to pull a transformational experience out of the retreats and give someone a mini retreat? [29:30] Nikki's advice is to give people the opportunity to be willing to work with her. [30:36] In the Sales Maven Society, Nicole has learned to not be afraid to try new things and not to be afraid to follow up. [32:24] According to Nikki, working with people who are willing to take action is the best thing ever. [33:45] The Somatic Boundary Meditation helps you find where you're overextending yourself. Ever wondered how a career in constitutional law can ignite a passion for human rights advocacy? Nicole Smith, our esteemed guest, takes us through her inspiring transition into nonprofit work, where she's breaking new ground with digital campaigns that touch hearts and change minds. Her journey is a reminder that when we're armed with education and empathy, we can reshape the world—one freed prisoner, one enlightened influencer at a time. She brings to life the idea that our upbringing and the values we're taught can spark a lifelong commitment to justice and community service. We then turn to the triumphs and trials faced by children with disabilities and their families, stories that often go unheard. The tales we share aren't just about milestones and inclusion; they're about the power of support networks, both online and in our neighborhoods, that provide much-needed guidance and solace. Nicole's insights challenge us to reflect on the beauty of life's simple moments and the profound lessons we can learn from the resilience and joy of these extraordinary children. Our discussion culminates with Nicole's latest groundbreaking venture—a disability committee dedicated to filling the voids in support systems for those with disabilities. We examine the significance of comprehensive care that goes beyond the hospital walls, the importance of recognizing and valuing every individual, and how the concept of 'symptom industries' ties into our cultural perceptions. Walk away feeling energized to contribute to this collective mission of building communities that not only offer aid but celebrate the diversity of human dignity and strengths.Support the show

Happy New Year's Eve everyone (a few days early)! Welcome to the second in the Brave Women at Work holiday series. This is the next show that I hand-picked for you to listen to again (or listen to for the first time) as we are about to start a new year. Tending to ourselves and our nervous systems is a great way to rest, rejuvenate, and prepare for the year ahead. The nervous system plays a big part in our health. A dysregulated nervous system contributes to stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout. If you're prone to being on the verge of breaking down, you're going to want to tune in. My guest, Nicole Smith Levay, a somatic energy and health coach, shares easy and effective breathing exercises in this episode. These exercises help regulate the nervous system and prevent burnout. Nicole knows first-hand what it's like to burn out and have your body breakdown. Following the principle of “trauma to dharma”, she is now passionate about helping people, and especially women, deal with the same problem. In this conversation, she educates us on how important breathing is to keep our nervous systems and our stress in check. She also discusses:What somatic psychology is and what a somatic coach does; How breathing can help regulate our nervous systems; andHow breathing exercises make a positive difference in our professional and personal lives. Tune in and listen to (or relisten) and learn how as simple a thing as your breathing can make a massive impact on your life! https://bravewomenatwork.comhttps://thepowerwithinhealing.com
In this episode of the Work in Progress podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Nicole Smith, chief economist for Georgetown University's Center on Education and the Workforce and co-author on their new report examining which job skills will be the most in-demand over the next eight years and what kind of education and training will you need to get them. As we start this conversation, it's important to know that most jobs already require some kind of post-secondary education and training beyond high school. "We're not necessarily talking about a bachelor's degree only, or a master's degree, or some sort of technical PhD. We're actually talking about skills in the middle," explains Smith. "We're talking about certificates, test-based certifications, vocational training licenses that deal with these technical jobs, and associate's degrees, as well." Right now, about 68% of the nation's jobs already require that additional training beyond high school. According to CEW's After Everything: Projections of Jobs, Education, and Training Requirements through 2031, as we shift even more toward a knowledge-based, tech-based economy, the percentage of jobs requiring more than a high school diploma will soar to 72% by 2031. CEW researchers project that the U.S. will have 171 million jobs in 2031, an increase of 16 million net new jobs from 2021. During that period, the analysis suggests there will be 18.5 million job openings per year on average, and some 12.5 million of these annualized openings will require at least some college education. According to the report, these latest projections demonstrate the central role postsecondary education plays in preparing the workforce of the future, "despite the fact that young people increasingly doubt the value of a degree and college enrollments continue to decline." Smith says two major factors contribute to the increasing demand for postsecondary education and training – the fastest-growing industries require workers with disproportionately higher education levels compared to industries with slower growth and occupations as a whole are steadily requiring more education as tasks within occupations become more complex. She says it is important that workers and job seekers look at the skills needed as the nature of work changes and seek out opportunities to stay up-to-date on those skills to stay relevant in the job market and advance their careers. "All of our data, all of our information, all of our history, points us to the fact that, in order for you to move up in your job, in order for you to get that promotion, managers are requiring you to have higher levels of education, higher levels of skill, and you have to recognize lifelong learning as a thing now, where you go back and you get that certification" or additional training, says Smith. Artisanal mining is full of both opportunities and challenges. How can we collaborate to build capacity for artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), particularly in Africa? We talk about the many aspects of ASM and the importance of geology in creating longer term, sustainable mining operations. Each of our guests has personal experience and knowledge to bring to the conversations. We talked first to Nicole Smith, assistant Professor at the Colorado School of Mines and an expert on artisanal and small-scale mining. She provides an excellent overview of the sector and its many facets and addresses the fundamental question of why we should be working towards formalization of artisanal mining globally. In our second story, Manuel Nopeia, a post-doctoral fellow at Akita University in Japan addresses the need for use of geological models in establishing formalization of artisanal mining in Mozambique. We connected just a few days ago to find out more about his story and the importance of ASM in his home country, where exploration and discovery of gold deposits is dominated by artisanal miners. Manuel published a thought provoking paper in Science Direct that addresses the need for geological models in the formalization of artisanal mining in Mozambique.Nopeia et. al, 2022Having heard what the challenges are and how important building capacity is – we turned to John Tychsen, CEO at ASSM Consult, to learn what the PanAfGeo program is doing to help. PanAfGeo is a European Union funded effort that brings 12 European geological surveys together with all the surveys and ministries of mines in Africa to support advancing geoscience. John has delivered workshops to representatives from all 54 African countries as part of the ASM work package. PanAfGeo - ASMOur music is Confluence, by Eastwinds.Eastwinds

For decades mental health and child development experts have taught us to focus on thoughts and behaviors in order to be happier and more successful. Unfortunately, this approach wasn't fully effective for many people because it didn't address energy and nervous system regulation. Join me and my guest Nicole Smith Levay as we talk about somatic practices that help us to more fully inhabit our bodies so we can experience more peace and calm. What You'll Learn: Why it's essential for parents to address a child's nervous system regulation before trying to address a child's behavior. The reason breathing doesn't always regulate the nervous system and what to do instead. The gifts that can come to us when we "show up messy" Nicole's strategy for calming herself before performing or public speaking. Jen's experience of "recreating the womb" and enjoying being rocked by a circle of women. How autistic people can teach the rest of us so much about nervous system regulation. And much more!
In this episode, Nicole Smith Levay and I discuss how to turn inwards and start thinking more about what tools you can use now to help you take action. So if you want to learn to turn inwards, seek your own truths of what can help you on your journey, and know that serving others can also lead you to take action. Tune in now!
