Clay Jenkinson converses with historian Larry Skogen about his new book, To Educate American Indians. Skogen's book examines US policy of assimilating Native Americans into European-derived white America, including the nightmare of the Indian Boarding Schools, personified by Carlisle Indian School's superintendent Richard Pratt's racist mission statement: “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” One of the fascinations of this subject is that so many of the white people engaged in coercive assimilation were, at least in their own minds, “philanthropists,” who believed they were doing the right thing. Embedded in the assimilation movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was what is called “scientific racism,” the view that Anglo Saxon white people were the acme of world civilization and all others were lower on the scale of civilization, accomplishment, and even capacity. It's an important and at times chilling subject, and Larry Skogen is one of the nation's premier historians of these policies.

Hey, gang. So it looks like Boy Y has a diagnosis that I'm generally unfamiliar with. This diagnosis of which we've included a bit of informative audio about has given him the option to type his answers in court. So from the initial interrogation to actually communicating in court, he has gone from lying through his teeth to lying through his fingers.
The Last Handful of Clover: Book Three – The Stone in the Stream Chapter 63: Epilogue * * * ABOUT THE STORY: THREE DAYS AFTER HE WAS MURDERED, RICHARD PRATT BEGAN TO FEEL MUCH BETTER... A seemingly random act of violence propels Professor Richard Pratt into The Hereafter. It is a strange, muted, netherworld of the dead -- a world in which he is forced to bear witness to the loss and suffering of the man he left behind, and to the rapid demise of the city he called home. And when the other denizens of his ghostly realm begin to enact a brutal revenge on the world of the living, it is only Richard Pratt that can save them. With the help of a barefoot 15-year-old boy from the old West and an ancient Goshute wise woman, Richard Pratt sets out to save the man he loves, Salt Lake City, and his own wounded soul. Together, they must face a ferocious enemy bent on the complete destruction of a great American city. An enemy with his fingers deep in Richard's shameful past. The Last Handful of Clover is a sweeping supernatural thriller about love, loss, regret, and redemption. It is a novel of terror, in which one man is called upon to face the sins of his past in order to save the future for the man he loves, and a city of over a million innocent souls. Peopled by a cast of unforgettable characters, The Last Handful of Clover is an epic hero's journey into darkness. From the remote Montana wilderness of 1810 to a secret chemical weapons laboratory under the Utah desert, the scope of The Last Handful of Clover is breathtaking, and lays bare the desperate longings, universal loss, and inevitable anguish of being human. * * * The Last Handful of Clover is a supernatural thriller by Wess Mongo Jolley, narrated by the author. July 16th, 2023 Sermon at King's Chapel from guest preacher, Dr. Richard Pratt Jr.
In 1880, Richard Pratt opened the Carlisle School's Outing Program. Pratt framed the programs as an opportunity to give boarding school students real-world experience and cultivate practical skills they learned at school, but in reality, the Outing Programs were nothing more than indentured servitude. By the 1930s, most programs were so corrupt that they were discontinued. Were the programs nixed due to a sudden change of heart? No, it was the result of an independent research organization and their publication of the Meriam Report.Note: We would like to issue a content warning for this episode. Richard Pratt's boarding schools for Native American children didn't just materialize out of thin air. The idea that it was the job of the government to try to assimilate Native Americans into European settler culture had been around since the first Europeans stepped foot onto North American soil. So today, let's jump back in time and connect the dots from the Constitution to forced education.Hosted by: Sharon McMahonExecutive Producer: Heather JacksonAudio Producer: Jenny SnyderWritten and researched by: Heather Jackson, Amy Watkin, Mandy Reid, and KariMarisa AntonThank you to our guest K. Dr. Richard Pratt"Christ's Mission in our Changing World"Matthew 6:7-13In the Lord's prayer, he's not just teaching us how to pray, but teaching us what's important to him. He reminds us that the one who holds all of creation together cares for you. He teaches us that he desires God's kingdom to be manifested on earth as it already is in heaven, so that his dwelling place may be with mankind. And, he reminds us that God's kingdom will come, despite our earthly circumstances, and that he is aware of our daily needs. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as bthe Gentiles do, for cthey think that they will be heard dfor their many words. 8 Do not be like them, efor your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 fPray then like this: g“Our Father in heaven, hhallowed be iyour name.1 10 jYour kingdom come, kyour will be done,2 lon earth as it is in heaven. 11 mGive us nthis day our daily bread,3 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And olead us not into temptation, but pdeliver us from qevil.4

Listen as Pastor Danny preaches from Mark, chapters 1 and 16. As mentioned in the sermon, we want to provide a couple of resources for you related to the reliability of Scripture. The first is the short video with N.T. Wright Pastor Danny played during his sermon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NQYOjRYQG8 The second is a website called the Ehrman Project, which was created to address some of Professor Ehrman's claims related to the reliability of Scripture. They are mostly 4-6 minute-long videos addressing specific topics by scholars such as D.A. Carson, Daniel Wallace, Michael Kruger, and Richard Pratt. There's actually a video discussing the extended ending of Mark by Daniel Wallace, if you're interested. https://ehrmanproject.com/
Yes, indeed family, the days are steadily getting longer, and the sun is shining. Like we said last week though, do not get excited and put shorts on right away. Yeah, don't let this pneumonia weather sneak up on you and knock you down. Please, stay safe and healthy out there. With all of that said, onward with the show. In this episode, we bring forth more new music, courtesy of Detroit's own Bourgeoisie Paper Jam, Sound of Superbad feat. Monique Missvocalz, Washington, D.C.'s own Desmond Parson, and a brand new one from Frank McComb. We even give a short tribute to the memory of Richard Pratt of Blue Magic, with some sprinkles of The System, Incognito, Chante' Moore, The Spinners, and the list goes on and on.
