Welcome back to another episode of the Plant Based News podcast. I am joined today by renowned American author, teacher, and vegan educator Camille DeAngelis, best known for her acclaimed novel "Bones and All”. Originally from New Jersey and currently based in Washington, DC, Camille considers herself a writer for all ages. Her previous work includes novels, practical philosophy, and the Moon Guide to Ireland, which she regularly updates. She is the author of two books of nonfiction: Life Without Envy: Ego Management for Creative People and A Bright Clean Mind: Veganism for Creative Transformation. Her best known work to date – the award-winning novel “Bones and All” – was first published in 2015 and was recently turned into a film, starring Timothee Chalamet, which premiered in 2022. The novel tells the story of a young woman named Maren, who is plagued by a compulsion to eat the bones of the people she loves. The book explores themes of love, obsession, and the nature of family, as the protagonist sets out on a journey to understand her condition and find a way to live with it. After being a longtime vegetarian, Camille became vegan in 2011. She pursued her interest in the vegan movement further and in 2013 became a certified vegan lifestyle coach and educator through Victoria Moran's Main Street Vegan Academy. The PBN Podcast is hosted and produced by Robbie Lockie, edited by Phil Marriott and researched and scripted by Antonia Georgieva. Last year after I quit my job, I went to Auroville for a yoga program and thereafter I ended up volunteering in Sadhana Forest. It's there where I was introduced to the concept of ‘Unlearning'. At the evening Q&A session, with the founder of Sadhana Forest ‘Aviram Rozin', I understood that ‘all my life I have been striving to learn, but here I am attempting to unlearn so that I can relearn life concepts in the most honest and human ways'. Today at You are Human, the process of unlearning is going to unfold itself through the experience and wisdom of my Guest. This episode is a very special one as he is one the most amazing Yoga teachers that I have practiced with. Mohammed Dohadwala, a committed yogi who started practicing yoga when he was 39 years of age. Like most Yogis, he started with an active physical practice and found that it quickly moved into being a mindful and spiritual practice. While Mohammed's initial education includes an engineering degree from IIT Bombay and an MBA from IIM Calcutta along with a few investment credentials, his journey to self discovery began with the serendipity of yoga. In this episode he talks about his expectations from himself, contribution of yoga in his life, men's mental health and so effortlessly explains the concept of Active Surrendering.

Pieter van Midwoud is the Tree Planting Officer for Ecosia, the search engine that plants trees.  As people use the search engine, their counter shows how many trees they are responsible for purchasing, and Pieter is the one who connects with reforestation projects around the world to get the them planted. You can set Ecosia as your default search engine or try it out at . Paul Hol is the Executive Director of Form International, a forest management and services company that manages 27,000 hectares of sustainable forest plantations, forest restortion, nature conservation, and agroforestry in Ghana and Tanzania.  They work to restore degraded forest lands and local livelihoods while creating models that demonstrate that trees can be a good investment.   Aviram Rozin is the Founder and International Director of Sadhana Forest, a vegan volunteer-based organization focused on creating long-term plant-based food security through environmental restoration. Globally, there are 133 million malnourished people living in arid areas who have private land but are not using it to grow food due to lack of water and agricultural knowledge. Sadhana Forest trains local people in India, Haiti and Kenya in the use of water-saving irrigation techniques and provides them with free seedlings to plant drought-resistant, indigenous, food-bearing trees around their homes.  Aviram is also a board member of the Foundation for the World Education and the first council member from India in the Global Restoration Council.    Sadh Guru is a mystic, best-selling author, and founder of the Isha Foundation.  He has inspired a people's movement in India that has planted over 32 million trees.   You can find the entire conversation between Sadh Guru and Eric Solheim, Environment Director for the U.N. . How to create an open sustainable living community, rooted in compassion and regeneration of the land. "To come to a place where people are willingly here to serve you, to give you a safe and transformative experience, that by itself is healing." ~ Aviram RozinIn this episode Amisha sits down with Aviram Rozin, founder of Sadhana Forest - a reforestation project and sustainable living community, which was established in 2003 on 70 acres of degraded land just outside Auroville. The project is designed around the primary principle of compassion - from the vegan organic food to the hand chiseled granite building stone, everything is carefully and consciously chosen under the criteria of compassion for all life and for the planet. Unschooling and Gift Economy are some of the compassionate ideologies that underpin the social aspects of the project, and the community nurture a culture of non violent communication and service. What began as a way for a family of three to live in alignment with their chosen principles, has blossomed quickly into a vibrant transformational community with two further projects being established in Haiti and Kenya. Aviram shares stories of daily life at Sadhana Forest and how the project brings people into greater contact with what nourishes and supports them, both within and without - carrying buckets of water  for their daily use, charging their phones and laptops with the midday sun and discovering lifelong talents and passions. He goes on to explain some of the rituals and practises that create the foundations for a thriving sustainable living community and underpin the transformational effect reported by visitors and volunteers at Sadhana Forest. Finally, he shares a little about his newest project, the University of Compassion, which launched in February of this year and aims to bring compassion to the forefront of human thinking."I treat love as a resource that is never depleted. So sharing my love with people, animals, plants, water, this is the recharge- it is like a two way stream all the time. I don't feel like there is energy flowing out of me that will finish - it is all the time flowing in and flowing out." ~ Aviram Rozin For links from this episode and more information - visit.www.thefutureisbeautiful.co
