Visit https://teachhoops.com/ for coaching resources, communication templates, and strategies that help you navigate parent relationships, establish boundaries, and maintain your coaching authority while building a positive program culture. In this episode, we tackle one of the most stressful and persistent challenges every basketball coach faces: managing parent expectations, complaints, and pressure while staying true to your coaching philosophy and doing what's best for the team. Whether you're dealing with parents who question playing time decisions, disagree with your offensive system, criticize your coaching on social media, or undermine team culture, this conversation will equip you with practical strategies to handle these situations professionally and effectively. We explore the root causes of parent pressure—unrealistic expectations about their child's abilities, college recruitment anxiety, lack of understanding about team dynamics, and emotional investment that clouds judgment—and discuss how to address these concerns with empathy while maintaining appropriate boundaries. You'll learn communication strategies that prevent problems before they escalate: preseason parent meetings that establish expectations, open-door policies with clear protocols, the 24-hour rule for post-game complaints, and when to involve athletic directors or administrators. We break down how to conduct difficult conversations about reduced playing time, role changes, or behavioral issues in ways that preserve relationships while being honest about the reality of competitive basketball. This episode provides specific frameworks for handling the most common parent pressure situations: the parent who emails after every loss demanding explanations, the family that hires a trainer who contradicts your teaching, the vocal critic who poisons other parents against you, and the influential community member who leverages relationships to advocate for their child. We also discuss self-care strategies for coaches dealing with constant criticism, how to build administrative support that shields you from unreasonable demands, and when parent behavior crosses lines that require firm consequences. Whether you're a first-year coach navigating these dynamics for the first time or a veteran who's tired of the drama, you'll gain confidence to lead your program with integrity while managing parent relationships in healthy, sustainable ways. handling parents coaching, parent pressure basketball, coaching parent relationships, difficult parents sports, basketball parent communication, playing time complaints, parent expectations coaching, coaching boundaries parents, basketball parent meetings, dealing with criticism coaching, parent conflict resolution, athletic director support, coaching integrity basketball, managing parent pressure, toxic parents sports, basketball coaching stress, parent complaint protocols, difficult conversations coaching, basketball parent issues, coaching professionalism parents, social media criticism coaching, parent education basketball, team culture parents, coaching authority maintaining, parent dynamics basketball, basketball coaching challenges, parent interference sports, coaching mental health, Wisconsin basketball coaching, high school parent issues SEO Keywords: Learn more about your ad choices. Practical tools to manage stress, set boundaries, and stay sober during the most overwhelming time of year. In this episode, we're talking about why the holiday season is such a perfect storm for stress, exhaustion, and relapse risk — and what actually helps you stay grounded, calm, and sober when everything feels like too much. This isn't about “just don't drink” or powering through with willpower. It's about planning ahead, setting real boundaries, managing your energy, and protecting your sobriety like it actually matters — because it does. These tools are timeless and incredibly relevant right now — especially as we head into the final stretch of the year. HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: 1️⃣ Holiday Stress Isn't the Problem — Lack of Planning Is The holidays don't sneak up on us. They come at the same time every year. When you plan ahead — for your schedule, your energy, and your triggers — you dramatically reduce overwhelm and vulnerability. 2️⃣ Boundaries Are a Sobriety Tool, Not a Personality Flaw Boundaries around time, conversations, commitments, and how long you stay at events aren't selfish — they're how you stay regulated, present, and sober when stress is high. 3️⃣ Rest, Connection, and Support Are Non-Negotiable Sleep deprivation, emotional exhaustion, and isolation make cravings louder. Staying connected to your sober support and refueling your energy keeps you strong when willpower runs out. We're days away from Christmas. If your energy is low and your stress is high, that doesn't mean you're failing — it means it's time to slow down, simplify, and protect what matters most. Take what you learn today and use it. Planning, boundaries, rest, and connection aren't optional extras. They're how sobriety lasts. Links Mentioned in This Episode:

How do you truly stand out in your industry? Is it by using the same AI tools everyone else relies on? By copying the same strategies you see on your For You Page? Or by watering down your personality so much that you lose every part of what makes you you? Nope. Nope. And absolutely not. In today's episode, we're diving into why blending in has become such an easy trap for entrepreneurs and creators, and how it silently kills the momentum of your business. Copying trends, depending on the same tools as everyone else, and suppressing your natural personality all work against your long-term growth. Instead of helping you get noticed, these habits actually push you further into the background and weaken the connection you have with your audience. This episode breaks down what it really means to stand out and why originality matters more than ever. We'll talk about how authenticity creates stronger engagement, how your personality is actually your greatest marketing advantage, and how to rebuild momentum by leaning into what makes your message unique. Drawing from Daniel 1:1-5, we reveal how the Babylonian spirit still works in the world today, attacking families, morals, and freedom. Discover:- Why God will bless those who bless Israel- The true meaning of Babylon and its relentless agenda- How Babylon hates family and seeks to control the next generation- What it means to stand with GodEven if the world sees you as broken or rejected, God sees your value. Learn how to live with the mind of Christ, resist cultural pressure, and stand firm in your faith with humility, love, and truth.Babylon may try to silence you, but God has already given you a voice. This message is a call to action—pray, serve, and love like never before. Be part of the solution, not the problem.

Have you ever felt guilty for taking a break from work? Do you find it challenging to balance your creative pursuits with your professional responsibilities? If so, you're not alone. Many therapists struggle with feelings of guilt or abandon if they take time away from their practice and worry that clients will need them while they're gone or not come back to therapy once the vacation has ended. Edgar Fabián Frías, LMFT, and graduate of the Money Skills for Therapists course, brings their current challenge of allowing themselves permission to rest, trust the systems, and redefine what sustainability looks like in their work and life to the show. Edgar has built financial buffers and created sustainability in their practice, but not yet allowed themselves a real break. Balancing Rest and Business Growth If you are someone who finds it hard to take time off, and you know you need a break but you keep pushing that vacation into the future, here are a few questions Edgar and I work through: What if I lose connections with my clients during my time off? Will I have to start over again after taking a vacation? Will my clients seek support elsewhere if I'm not available for a month? What if my absence affects the progress and goals of my clients? What if taking time off leads to missed opportunities or setbacks in my practice? How can I take time for myself but also serve my clients well? Conquering the Fears Around Taking Time Off (00:00:10) Balancing Creativity with Professional Responsibilities (00:09:33) Therapists' Emphasis on Personal Growth Practices (00:14:06) Creative Breaks: Nurturing Therapist's Business Growth (00:16:28) The Transformative Power of Rest and Exploration (00:17:27) Creative Time Management for Productivity and Balance (00:22:35) Maintaining Financial Security During Extended Absences Elevating Your Therapy Services from a Place of Rest Overcoming the fear of taking time off is a journey that requires self-awareness, resilience, and a willingness to prioritize your well-being. As a therapist, it's essential to find a balance between work responsibilities and creative pursuits, while also ensuring financial stability and taking breaks to recharge. One practical tip is to create a schedule that allows for dedicated time for both work and creative activities. Set boundaries and stick to them, ensuring that you have time for self-care and relaxation. Remember, you deserve time off to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. Taking breaks can actually boost your creativity and productivity in the long run. (00:23:34) "And I honestly as like, you know someone who was so tainted by money and felt so out of control with it. It's been so amazing to be on the other side of it and be like, oh, my gosh, I'm comfortable with money. And I also feel like I have this ability to dream." - Edgar Fabián Frías (00:28:13) "When we never take time away, when we don't show them that we're living expansive lives, they know that on some level, you know, that we are someone who works all the time and isn't actually out exploring and enjoying the world, as we are often supporting our clients to be able to do so." - Linzy Bonham Interested in working with Linzy? In this refreshingly honest episode, Anna Lundberg unpacks why even top experts find it tough to thrive in today's challenging market. Discover why this isn't the time to wait for things to improve, but to sharpen your positioning, messaging, and visibility to stand out - even now. Tune in to reframe your strategy and uncover the real keys to business growth in uncertain times. Key takeaways: The Market Has Shifted—But Opportunity Remains The economic landscape is more demanding, with budget cuts and changing priorities making it harder to attract attention. However, clients are still investing—just more selectively, and with a focus on immediate, tangible results. Three Reasons You're Not Booked Out Unclear or Uncompelling Offers: Vague, long-term, or “fluffy” messaging doesn't resonate in a risk-averse market. Offers need to address urgent, concrete business needs. Positioning That Undersells You: Many experts, especially women, downplay their expertise instead of confidently owning their experience and value. Visibility That Lacks Consistency and Focus: Sporadic or unfocused marketing often leads to getting lost in the noise. Clear, intentional pathways to your ideal clients are essential. Mission vs. Messaging: What Sells Now Lead with what your client needs—typically profit, productivity or specific outcomes—then weave in your bigger mission once you've opened the door. Future-Proofing Your Business Stop accepting ‘just any client' out of necessity. Position yourself for the work (and clients) you truly want, and start building that reputation now for real, lasting growth. Ready to build a business that actually works - even in a tough market? Every clinician holds within them a remarkable blend of skills, passion, and untapped potential that extends far beyond the walls of traditional medicine. Yet the relentless demands of patient care, long hours, and financial pressures often keep us from exploring paths that could ignite new growth and purpose. Professional identity is not defined solely by a title or the letters after your name. It is the beautiful intersection of your talents, your passions, and the meaningful impact you choose to create. True success does not ask you to compromise your well-being or values. It asks for clarity, intention, and courage. Every step into entrepreneurship, side ventures, or wellness initiatives becomes an opportunity to test your abilities, honor your values, and expand the ways you contribute to the world. This journey is not about leaving your calling behind. It is about uncovering the many dimensions of who you are and embracing them fully. Each step toward aligning your skills, your heart, and your purpose brings you closer to a life and career that deeply nourishes both. Taylor Herzer, MPAS, PA-C is a board-certified Physician Associate with a heart for both saving lives and helping people feel confident in their own skin. Starting her career in the fast-paced ER, she mastered the art of staying calm under pressure before bringing that same skill and precision to the world of aesthetics and wellness. She's passionate about helping people feel confident, educating them on their options, and building lasting relationships based on trust. She also shares her journey into functional medicine, her perspective on balancing traditional and holistic approaches, and how entrepreneurship allowed her to use her skills in a way that truly feels fulfilling. We have to admit when we're wrong and be willing to pivot." – Taylor Herzer MPAS, PA-C "When you put your patients in the driver's seat, they really do trust you so much more because it's no longer them coming in and being told what to do, but really feeling empowered to make changes at home."– Taylor Herzer MPAS, PA-C "Don't forget about all your skills, all the talents that you have. Sometimes obtaining that next degree is just opening up more doors for you to really be who you are." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "I would hate if I allowed my own pride to keep me from sharing something that could change someone else's life."– Taylor Herzer MPAS, PA-C "There's no amount of money that would allow me to compromise not only my patient safety, but just my own integrity, my morals, my values.
