Corky Siegel is known internationally as one of the worlds great blues harmonica players, blues pianist, singer-songwriter, creator of CHAMBER BLUES and the sole pioneer/composer of award-winning revolutionary works that weave blues and classical forms together. Co-founder of the SIEGEL-SCHWALL BAND, and Blues Hall of Fame Inductee, Corky Siegel has a catalogue of recordings on RCA, Vanguard, Alligator, and million selling blues/classical recordings on the iconic classical label Deutsche Grammophon. His close associations with the blues masters in the earlier days of Chicago blues, his essential part in the blues rock revolution, and his surprising success in bringing together blues and classical audiences make him a pivotal (though inconspicuous) figure in modern music history. “under appreciated national treasure” - DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE. Corky Siegel
John's guest this week is Corky Siegel, legendary player, composer and singer of “chamber blues”, a combination of blues and classical. He was famous for his leadership of the Siegel-Schwall Band.

Since then he's brought blues music to the classical world, initially with Siegel-Schwall's collaborations with symphony orchestras and later with his exciting combo Chamber Blues. We also talk about his ideas on music and meditation, his writings and experience the concept and practice of dynamic variation and his views and experiences on music and life in general.

JIM SCHWALL Best known for his long-time partnership with Corky Siegel and the internationally renowned blues-rock outfit, "The Siegel-Schwall Band", Jim has also been very active in the Madison music scene for many years. Other career paths such as being a lettered professor and social worker, as well as being a former Madison mayoral candidate make this one extraordinarily interesting person--and his music is every bit as interesting and often autobiographical. jimschwall.com
It's a tweener week in The Roadhouse - the week between Christmas and New Years. With a freewheeling feeling, the 253rd Roadhouse fills an hour with a big variety of blues. Lonnie Brooks, Siegel-Schwall Band, Dave Spector & The Bluebirds, Peter Green, and Cyril Neville create a mixture you might not hear anywhere else. But you'll agree it's a mixture that makes for another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

Co-leader of the Siegel-Schwall Band, "one of the best acts in America" (Billboard Magazine), he continues to make great new music solo and with several of Madison's favorite groups including So Dang Yang and The Cajun Strangers. myspace.com/jimschwall

Blue skies, brilliant sunshine, brand new artists, outstanding new labels - all converge right here, in a little dotpoint on the blues-time continuum that I like to call an hour of the finest blues you've never heard. Like a theoretical physicist searching for the beginning of time, you've managed to stumble across the singularity known as the 68th Roadhouse Podcast. It's a refreshing summer breeze in the form of the Backalley Blues Band, Blues Caravan, the Siegel-Schwall Band, Eric Lindell, and Tommy Castro. So, whether you see blues as universal, or something very, very personal, I think we've got it covered in this edition of The Roadhouse Podcast - the Summer Sunshine edition.

There's a certain bounce to this week's Roadhouse Podcast. It finds a groove and stays there right on through to the end. With artists like Mike Dugan, The Siegel-Schwall Band, Danny Eyer, J. B. Hutto, and Johnny Hoy and The Bluefish, it's impossible to refrain from chair-dancing, snapping your fingers, and generally annoying your co-workers. Seven other artists round out the show along with a wild Roadhouse Rewound and an audio comment from a terrestrial listener. The Roadhouse 037 is just a shade under one hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
