Marty Ray Project is an independent singer/songwriter, actor, podcaster, and now owner of Beardilizer Beard Care products. He has amassed a fan base of over 1.5 million fans and 200+ million views across all social media platforms. “I'm just a guy that Jesus put here to sing and write songs, some people seem to like em”. As an actor, Marty has co-starred in TV shows like: The Detour on TBS, ZOO on CBS, and Preacher on AMC. He has acted in various independent films as well. Before he accomplished anything in music or acting though, he had a podcast. Back when podcasts received barely any attention and very few people knew what they were, he was podcasting. On his podcast, The Marty Ray Project: Chats, he has interviewed: Bert Kreischer, Matt Serra, Herb Dean, Deana Carter, Leslie Satcher, and many others. He has also written an article for a publication that highlights independent artists, like himself, on top of everything else. Needless to say, anything that involves entertainment, he is open to giving it a shot. Recently, along with becoming the owner of Beardilizer, Marty started selling real estate and as a gift, to every client that allows him to be involved with their process, he records a song video for them; real estate with a song. Whatever it is that he does, or will do in the future, music will always be intertwined into it. On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by singer/songwriter's Amanda Kate and Riley Braker!AMANDA KATEBorn in a no-stop-light-town in Red River, NM, Amanda Kate Ferris grew up equally inspired by her small-town upbringing and her mother, Kathy Wright, an artist and entertainer herself. As one of the original “Dean Martin Golddiggers” on the 1960's TV show, 18-year-old Kathy often collaborated with The Rat Pack's crooners, embracing the era's glamour. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, and young Amanda was singing as early as two years old. Inspired by her mother's tales of performing on the stage and screen, she developed her own voice in the church. Amanda added songwriting to her repertoire at age 14, looking again to follow in her mother's footsteps as a full-time musician and artist. During her mother's long sets at Honky Tonks between California, New Mexico, and Texas, Amanda fell in love with the music of The Judds, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Leanne Womack, and Brooks & Dunn, all of which heavily influenced her current sound. Her love of Country music led her to chase her dreams in Nashville. Over the next few years, she went through multiple groups, opportunities, and countless hours spent on her craft in Music City. On the brink of letting these long sought-after dreams go, Amanda decided that she needed a change of pace and settled in with her family. After she and her husband welcomed their first child, Amanda was back on stage, this time performing Carrie Underwood songs in a national touring cover band, Blown Away. Their incredible renditions of Underwood's hits led to an unsolicited and highly coveted spot on Executive Producer Jimmy Fallon's new show for E!, “Clash of the Cover Bands.” Through Underwood's iconic songs, Amanda was able to fulfill her love of entertaining and singing, but she felt a calling to again create her own original music. The show was a full circle moment for Ferris, appearing on the same network that gave her mother her start over 50 years ago. Off-screen, this allowed Amanda the opportunity to highlight her new original music, simultaneously releasing her self-titled EP to rave reviews, including editorial placement on Spotify's Texas Country Now, the largest Red Dirt Playlist. In early 2022, Ferris' love for traditional Country sparked the interest of renowned producer Jimmy Ritchey (Clay Walker, Mark Chesnutt), with whom she recorded five new tracks reminiscent of the traditional country stylings of Ferris' favorites from the 90s. Look out this fall for “Baby Don't,” Ferris' debut on Texas radio. “Baby Don't” honors her Texas Country roots and showcases her captivating vocals. This lead single will be followed by an EP in early 2023 to reflect upon her western influences and love of Country music history. A cowgirl at heart, she spends any free time riding her horses with her family at Rockin R Ranch in Palmer, TX. On the road, Amanda has graced the stage with such acts as Tracey Lawrence, Bailey Zimmerman, Deana Carter, Warren Zeiders, Chase Rice, Priscilla Block, Casey Donahew, Josh Abbott Band, and more. RILEY BRAKERRiley is a gifted singer-songwriter, with a voice tailor made to tell her heartfelt stories of life as a young adult. She crafts her tales of love, woe, and regret, and infuses her characters with so much life, the listener feels as if they are experiencing the events first handy

Greg Morrow has dominated the drum chair in Nashville record sessions for nearly 3 decades. He's laid the groove for artists spanning from Deana Carter and Steve Earl to Garth Brooks and Dixie Chicks to Luke Combs and Jon Pardi. Greg is a two time, ACM Drummer of the Year award winner, and can be heard on countless number one records.Greg found his passion for drums early. He starting a band as a pre-teen and played club gigs around his hometown of Memphis through high school. Through a chance meeting at a festival and the help of fellow Memphis raised studio legend, Chad Cromwell, Greg landed his first major tour with Mercury recording artist, Larry Raspberry and the Highsteppers, before he was out of high school. After touring with Amy Grant, DeGarmo & Key, and Faith Hill, eventually Greg's path led him to Nashville where he quickly rose as a first call studio Drummer and touring musician. Greg believes that one of the keys to success in the recording industry is filling a deep well of musical knowledge that can fill up a variety of buckets at a moments notice. In this interview, I learned how deep that well reaches through the incredible stories of both success and temporary detours that Greg has masterfully navigated throughout his incredible career. Matt Starr is a 20-year veteran of the LA scene and recently landed in Sarah McLachlan's drum chair. Over his career, he has divided his time playing live and recording in the pop/rock world and has also been producing music in his own studio. Matt began formal study of drums in his hometown of Toronto with Vito Rezza, and went on to study with Joe Morello, Jim Chapin, and Bernard Purdie. In addition to the Sarah gig, he has also performed with Buffy Sainte-Marie, Chris Shiflett (from the Foo Fighters), Christopher Cross, Lisa Loeb (with whom he recorded a grammy winning album in 2018), Deana Carter, Glen Ballard, Alphonso Johnson, Lucy Hale, Kiki Ebsen, Kevyn Lettau and Inbar Starr. In this podcast, Matt talks about: Learning to get the most out of your existing gear before buying more How drummers now have the expertise to be in conversation and partnership with audio engineers How his relationship with Victor Indrizzo led to the Sarah McLachlan gig Being an LA drummer without the LA extroversion/ambition How you can define "community" by just a couple of relationships

DID I SHAVE MY LEGS FOR THIS (1996)Album Information: Did I Shave My Legs for This is the debut studio album of American country artist Deana Carter, released via Patriot Records in the UK in 1995. In 1996, Capitol Records had Carter record new material for the North American release of the album, which included three songs from the original release.[8] This version features her breakthrough debut single "Strawberry Wine", a number-one hit on the Billboard [[Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart at the end of that year. "We Danced Anyway", "Count Me In", and the title track were also released as a singles. Of these, "We Danced Anyway" and the promotional single "How Do I Get There" also reached number one. (Wikipedia)Album InfoEverything's Gonna Be Alright (1998)Everything's Gonna Be Alright is the second studio album by American country music artist Deana Carter. Released in 1998 as her second and final studio album for Capitol Records Nashville, it features the single "Absence of the Heart", a number 16 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts in late 1998. "You Still Shake Me" and "Angels Working Overtime" were released as the second and third singles, and peaked at numbers 36 and 35, respectively. "Ruby Brown" failed to chart in the U.S., but managed to reach number 74 on the country charts in Canada.Album InfoFather Christmas (2001)This holiday album manages to be great despite itself -- one of Deana Carter's strengths is her songwriting; this is a collection largely of standards. Even though it adds a kind of fireside charm, the guitar accompaniment, provided by her father, Fred Carter, Jr., seems ham-handed and often off-tempo. The only thing about the album that isn't flawed is her voice. Subtle and sweet, she charms throughout and sets a gentle, soothing tone that is perfect for a wintry evening. Carter has also managed to present a holiday album that manages to exude a down-home country style without resorting to stereotypical twanginess and fiddles. Father Christmas may not go too far to try to be original or different, but it is pretty memorable just the way it is.Album InfoI'm Just A Girl (2003)I'm Just a Girl is the fourth studio album released by American country singer/songwriter Deana Carter. The album peaked at #6 on the U.S. Top Country Albums chart and #58 on the Billboard 200, and produced two singles. "There's No Limit" was released in late 2002 as the lead single. The song was Carter's first Top 20 hit since "Absence of the Heart" in 1998, when it peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks #interview #countrymusic #deanacarter chart in early 2003. The title track was released as the album's second single, which was a minor Top 40 hit. This was Carter's only release on Arista Nashville; she then switched to Vanguard for her next albums. The cover resembles a magazine cover.Album InfoThe Story of My Life (2005)The Story of My Life is the fifth studio album released by American country singer/songwriter Deana Carter. The album peaked at #26 on the U.S. Top Country Albums chart and #150 on the Billboard 200. "One Day at a Time" was released in March 2005 as the lead-off single, and entered the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the week of April 9, 2005 at #57. It reached a peak of #55 after three weeks, although the song later reappeared on the chart for two additional weeks in late June-early July. The follow-up singles, "The Girl You Left Me For", "Sunny Day", and "In a Heartbeat", failed to enter the chart altogether.Album InfoThe Chain (2007)The Chain is the sixth studio album of American country singer/songwriter Deana Carter, first released in 2007. Since, the album has peaked at #60 on the US Country chart. The first and only single off the album, "On the Road Again," was released in 2007, failing to land on the

Deana Carter came out in 1997 throwing nothing but heaters - number one hits, the legendary "Strawberry Wine" (which we've covered), and many staples on country radio. But the title track from her debut "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" is what solidified her as a forerunner of the "girl power" movement's foray into Country Music. What better way to wrap up women's history month than with the incomparable country hit that asks the ever present question for most straight women: men - why even bother? We are joined today by musician (and coincidentally wife of Drew) Lucy Lightning. A clip of her single, dropping April 22, plays at the end. Follow Lucy on instagram and YouTube! Deana Carter's seminal hit "Strawberry Wine" is a whole a** mood. Your sister loved it. Your friends loved it. Your momma loves it a little too much if we are being honest - why does she hit that high note with a tear in her eye? The song is beloved and wonderful. But of course, we are us- so we have to also get into the potentially darker side of the song. Now don't worry, we make up for potentially ruining your favorite piece of young -ove nostalgia by making Drew's wife Andi embarrassingly relive her own high school romances. Y'all, we are extremely into our own batch of strawberry wine on this episode, so bear with us. Enjoy and Happy New Year. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This month's guest, Matraca Berg, grew up in a musical family. Her mother Icee Berg (yep, real name!) was a songwriter and session singer who at first wasn't crazy that her daughter wanted a career in country music but later became her best teacher. Her stepfather, Dave Kirby, was a songwriter whose credits include the Gene Watson classic I've Got Memories to Burn and Charlie Pride's Is Anybody Goin to San Antone. The family lived in Nashville and often hosted parties featuring writers and singers. So, it stands to reason that being around that kind of environment would kinda rub off on a person. But in Matraca's case, it was more than just a smudge; she was gifted the talent- and the drive- to have over 50 of her songs recorded, including several that helped female artists to dominate country music in the 1990s like they have never before... or since. She is a CMA and ACM-winning 2008 Nashville Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee who's quick to give credit to her co-writers, she's married to Jeff Hanna of the legendary Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and she's a pretty great solo artist too.
