Welcome to another volume of our Halloween series, Somewhere in the Spooky Skies! This episode, we sit down with for an in-depth conversation with occultist and witch, Sarah Lyons. For someone like me, my knowledge of witches begins and ends with a green-skinned woman either cackling and melting away or belting about defying gravity on Broadway... so Sarah is here to set things straight and navigate us through the complex history of witches, the nature of rituals and practices, and the fascinating and crucial connections between witches and politics/activism. Oh... and we talk UFOs as well!Sarah Lyons is a writer, activist, occultist, and witch. She is the author of the book “Revolutionary Witchcraft, a Guide to Magical Activism” from Running Press. We explore why the term "cat lady" is still a thing in 2018 and why some of us still feel the need to hide our cats when dating. Writer, New School instructor, and founding editrix of Slutist.com Kristen Sollee joins us to discuss the history of women and cats and how cats can be involved in your magical practice, and photographer BriAnne Wills of Girls And Their Cats discusses her project and mission to show women and their cats in a positive light. In this episode of Well and Weird Abbie Plouff, the Northern Lights Witch, shares her work, and her story of coming to a place of embodiment. As a proud, radical, queer witch, Abbie uses the tarot (and magic in general) to help make her own life and and the lives of her clients richer and more aligned. Abbie shares some of her body story, some of the battles she faced in deciding to fully embrace the term 'witch,' and how we can use the tarot to start getting back into our bodies after trauma and/or dissociation. Whether you identify as a witch or not- that's totally fine, but this episode offers so much medicine in the name of body acceptance, self acceptance and tapping into your innate wisdom- your intuition, you won't want to miss it. Eager to sign-up for this year's Explore More Summit? It kicks off April 23rd, 2018 and you can enroll for free at exploremoresummit.com. Are you a witch, a slut, or a feminist? Then this episode is for you because Slutist founder Kristen J. Sollée is here to chat with me, Dawn Serra, about her new book by ThreeL Media, "Witches, Sluts, Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive." I'm not sure how much I've talked about it on the show, but I spent several years in my early twenties in a very close-knit witches coven. We met weekly, we did rituals for self-growth and world peace, and it was one of the most profound times of healing in my life. So, this book delighted the witch-of-old in me and the sex geek of now. I mean, you have to hear what "flying on a broomstick" really meant. It involves dildos. When we think about people who have been cast as witches or sluts throughout the ages, like midwives and sex workers, we see people who had power and knowledge that often men didn’t have. Kristen and I have so many thoughts about this. It's not a coincidence that the vast majority of the hundreds of thousands of people killed over the years for witchcraft were women, usually over 40. There is this deep fear of the feminine run wild. There is this deep fear that if women and feminine folks were in control than everything in the world would be destroyed. Hear Kristen and I geek out about that. I also ask Kristen about cis men who are "reclaiming" the word slut in solidarity with women. Her response is hysterical and perfect. We also talk about the power of ritual in our everyday lives as well as for sex and intention. There is SO much good stuff in this episode. And Patreon supporters - Kristen and I talk about money as power, money as energy, and why sex workers are so threatening to the current systems of power. Ultra-prolific British pulp author Dennis Wheatley is best known for his occult thrillers, which combined Wheatley's fascination with magic with his conservative politics. Kate and Jack tackle his 1953 offering To the Devil A Daughter, which involves a mystery author and her interior decorator son who get enmeshed in an occult conspiracy when they delve too deeply into the mysterious young lady who becomes their neighbor on the French Riviera. This month's guest reader is Kristen Korvette, founder and editor of Slutist, whose study of (and firsthand experience with) witches make her an ideal fit to read from a stuffy, ultra-conservative book about sinister Satanists. Why does possession by the devil turn our imperiled heroine into someone vastly more awesome? Will a mutual hatred of taxes bring the novel's heroes into an understanding with the villains? Are our hosts secretly Dennis Wheatley villains themselves? How is Stalin involved in this whole mess? Find out all this and more in this month's episode of Bad Books for Bad People. Find us at BadBooksBadPeople.com, on Twitter @badbooksbadppl, Instagram @badbooksbadpeople and onFacebook.
I'm welcoming back Kristen Korvette, the creator of the SLUTIST website, to talk about her new book and her upcoming event Season of the Witch II. Brought to you by SAVAGE GOLD COFFEE
You may have read that podcasts are getting insanely popular. Podcasts aren't only popular but they even gained some sex appeal! What once was a desire to have sex with the groovy radio DJ in the 1960s is now the desire to bang the person behind the USB microphone. I've had sex with several listeners over the past 80 weeks and Keith Malley, one half of the popular Keith and the Girl podcasting duo, is married to a longtime listener! This y-chromosome-fueled Manwhore Podcast discusses porn clickholes, Keith's religious upbringing and growing a loving bond with your listeners. I love you all! Except a few of you, probably. Keith started a podcast with his then-girlfriend Chemda (aka "The Girl"). When they broke up in real life, a publishing contract required them to fake their relationship on air for a whole year. He shares his experience with a secret break-up. We also chat about interacting with our listeners—even when those are less-than-clothed interactions. Hosting a personal podcast about the inner workings of your life allows you to become close with thousands upon thousands of strangers who listen to you on their morning commutes every day or week. The podcasting pioneer and I dish on what it feels like to have that bond. Check out my interview on Slutist.com! How did you learn to masturbate? Keith and I both grew up in households that did not encourage healthy sexual exploration. We share how we discovered jerking off and how our respective fathers shamed us about it. But like the healthy young lads we were, a little shame won't stop us from beating the bishop! Plus, weird porn! Check out one of my new favorites /r/HoldTheMoan! It's no secret that I would love to be paid for sex! I revisit my close call with male prostitution with a cougar lawyer in San Francisco. Also, I tell that Magnum condom story…again. Check out Keith Malley all over the place! Buy his and Chemda's relationship book What Do We Do Now? Hear him on the daily podcast Keith and the Girl! Follow him on Twitter: @KeithMalley Support the Keith and the Girl Kickstarter and receive Manwhore Podcast Patreon rewards! Make your pledge at www.katg.com/kick! This week's episode is sponsored by sharpies. Sharpies: great for drawing dicks on your lover's body; not great for washing off. www.ManwhorePod.com
