In this episode Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair talk with Bejoy Pal about the relational character of God's love reflected in the Street pastor movement. Bejoy's own journey into the Christian faith is a living witness to the value of giving encouragement to the young. His deep love for people has been shaped by being deeply loved in Christ by a series of wise and generous mentors throughout his life. In a time when the lack of community has created a vacuum, when the streets are unsafe, and as the young are tempted to focus on the self, Bejoy is focused on creating opportunities for intergenerational encounter that feel like family. Working across the pastor movements, Bejoy is helping volunteers connect with people in need of Christ-like love and care. His broader vision of the church is of a presence in local communities that brings the transformational message of Jesus' Gospel through peace, hope, faith and love in concrete ways to those who need to see it, feel it, hear it and know it.Bejoy Pal is CEO of the Ascension Trust, a charity that leads the Street Pastor movement and other pastor movements in the UK. Driven by a vision of a united church, the Trust's approach is ecumenical in practice, with a minimum of four denominations in any working group. Bejoy has been part of the team for nine years overseeing the schools and youth work within the organisation. As a Street Pastor and a School Pastor himself, Bejoy has been involved in youth work and ministry for many years as well as supporting missions and projects in Moldova and nations across East and West Africa. His spiritual home is Christchurch Purley in South London, where he has been connecting with young people and the local community for over 20 years.LINKSFor Bejoy Pal:Website: www.ascensiontrust.org.ukX - @ascensiontrustFacebook/Meta: https://www.facebook.com/ascensiontrustInstagram: @ascensiontrustofficialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@AscensionTrustFor Alan J Roxburgh:http://alanroxburgh.com/abouthttps://www.themissionalnetwork.com/author/alan-roxburgh/https://journalofmissionalpractice.com/alan-roxburghTwitter: https://twitter.com/alanjroxburgh?lang=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/alan.roxburgh.127/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecommonsnetworkJoining God in the Great UnravelingLeadership, God's Agency and DisruptionsJoining God, Remaking Church, Changing the World: The New Shape of the Church in Our TimeFor Jenny Sinclair:Website: https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/from-jenny-sinclairLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-sinclair-0589783b/Twitter: https://twitter.com/T4CGFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TogetherForTheCommonGoodUKInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/t4cg_insta/ Get full access to Leaving Egypt at leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode of the EntrePastors Podcast, Jon and Les talk with fellow pastor and author Eric Hoke about his new book Market Street Pastor. Eric contends that pastors want to work hard to provide for their families, be radically generous, and build a legacy of ministry that they can be proud of. In the modern ministry vocation, the only way to do this is to expand vocational options and earn additional income outside of the church. The problem is that pastors have only ever worked in churches and have no idea how to message their valuable skills in a way that makes sense to hiring managers in the open marketplace. As a result, they are paralyzed and frustrated because they know that they could break into the workforce, earn more money, and meet community members outside the church but don't know where to start on the job hunt. Eric Hoke understands how difficult it is to change industries and move from being a pastor to a marketplace professional because he did it in New York City, where he spent 10 years living and ministering as a church planter while also working in Manhattan for-profits. Eric has helped thousands of others to do the same through a proven five-step process that helps pastors break into the marketplace and build a ministry of sustainability. There is a vast difference between living as a ‘citizen' who learns about Jesus and a ‘missionary' who lives, loves, and leads to carry Him to the world. In this message, Pastor Chuck shares how we can completely change the way we see, choosing to be SENT as Hometown Missionaries. “Before we can hope to reach the end of the earth, we've got to first be willing to go to the end of our street!” Super practical and life-changing.

With us today is Pastor Katy Grindberg! Pastor Katy has been Assistant to the Bishop for the Sierra Pacific Synod for the past 8 years. Through her work with the Office of the Bishop, Pastor Katy has walked with scores of congregations while they navigate the call process (including St John’s); served as an adult leader on the Sierra Pacific Synod Youth Committee; provided care to congregations in crisis; and travelled with delegations to Rwanda. Many of us know Pastor Katy from her inspired sermons here and her volunteer work during VBS and Holy Week Day Camp.
Shawn Sikkema is a Street Pastor and Team Leader with Jesus on Colfax Ministries, a ministry he started with his wife Diane in January of 2016. Their primary work is with those who live in the old motels and on the streets along East Colfax. They live, most of the time, at the Ranger Motel as a way to be present and incarnational with their flock. The ministry also owns a 24,000 square foot building that they are rehabbing to use as a Ministry Center for multiple ministries that serve those living in poverty in the community, one of the poorest parts of the Denver metro area. Prior to that Shawn served as a more conventional pastor for 30 years. His blog and more info about the ministry can be found at www.jesusoncolfax.org.

Richard Bratt shares his experience of being a Street Pastor in Luton for 8 years...
Showing love to the vulnerable, drunk and disorderly on the streets of Melbourne. --- “I was never good around drunks. I'd rather just walk the other way, dodge around them and have nothing to do with them. Since I've started doing the Street Pastor walks, I've grown. I've learnt that they're just ordinary people who have either made a mistake or have gone too far and they need help – and we're in a position to be able to give them that help.” Doug's a Street Pastor in Melbourne. Most Saturday nights, he heads out with a team of volunteers to patrol Melbourne's nightclub scene and, basically, help people who need help. They hand out bottles of water to sober people up, give thongs to those with sore feet from high heels, give blankets to the cold, help people get home safely, comfort the distraught, defuse potentially difficult situations, and protect the vulnerable. In this episode, walk with the Street Pastors along one of Melbourne's busiest entertainment districts, Brunswick Street, and hear more from Street Pastors coordinator Andrew Satterley, as well as the Yarra Police Inspector, about the difference the Street Pastors are making in the local community. --- FIND OUT MORE about Street Pastors in Australia: www.streetpastors.org.au.
