In this episode, I break down the myth of work-life balance and explain why it's a misconception that often sets work and life up as opposing forces. I dive into the idea of embracing life's natural tensions and explore how we can find harmony among our various responsibilities. Through personal stories and insights from over a decade of coaching and consulting experience, I introduce a new framework for managing responsibilities by categorizing them into three key areas: accountable, responsible, and chosen. I also explore the benefits of holding onto life's tensions, such as anxiety, rather than trying to eliminate them, aiming for a more integrated and peaceful existence.Key Quotes"Work-life balance is a lie. The only people who talk about needing work-life balance are those who believe they are working too much.""We're not trying to balance two things; it's the complexity of life that is pulling us in all directions.""Anxiety isn't something to get rid of; it's something to be with, to hold the tension of.""We shouldn't see rest and work as opposites. They can coexist if we allow them to."Debunking the Myth of Work-Life BalanceWork-life balance is something many people strive for, yet I believe it's fundamentally flawed. It's often framed as a one-way street, only coming up when we feel overwhelmed by work, never when life itself seems to take over. This mindset puts work and life in constant opposition, leaving us searching for a harmony that seems just out of reach. I argue that, instead of balancing these two aspects, we need to acknowledge the complexity of life as it pulls us in different directions.Life's Tensions: Beyond Work and LifeHere's what I've learned: life is not just about work and life as two separate forces. There are multiple elements in play—family, relationships, personal growth, career goals, and much more. Each aspect pulls us in different directions, creating a natural tension. I suggest that the goal isn't to find a perfect balance but to recognize and live with this tension, integrating all areas of life into a cohesive whole.Three Buckets of Life's ResponsibilitiesI introduce my three-bucket framework for categorizing responsibilities into three key areas:Accountable: These are commitments I'm answerable for, like my marriage or my business. I may not control every aspect, but I'm accountable for the overall outcome.Responsible: These are things I'm directly responsible for, like my health, daily tasks, and caring for my children.Chosen: These are responsibilities I've willingly taken on, such as managing my grandparents' finances. I'm neither inherently responsible nor accountable for these, but I've chosen to take them on.This framework provides a clearer picture of where our energy and focus should go, helping us navigate life's natural tensions more effectively.Embracing Anxiety and TensionNow, let's talk about anxiety. It's easy to want to push it away or see it as something to eliminate. But what if anxiety serves a purpose? It makes you detail-oriented, thoughtful, and caring. Instead of fighting against it, what if you embraced it and held that tension alongside other aspects of your life? The idea is not to eliminate anxiety but to allow it to coexist with peace, recognizing it as part of life's tensions.Living in the Tension of LifeI challenge you to stop seeing rest and work, productivity and relaxation as opposites. They aren't. They can coexist if we allow them to. It's about holding the space where both can exist. When you're at home after a long day, wanting to work out but also wanting to rest, ask yourself: why can't both happen? Maybe you can do a quick 15-minute workout and then relax. It's about living in the tension rather than trying to strike an impossible balance.Resources MentionedWebsite: Rocky GarzaUpcoming Virtual Event: https://rockygarza.com/beyondsuccessKey Time Stamps00:00 Debunking the Myth of Work-Life Balance00:28 Introduction to the Rocky Garza Show01:40 The One-Way Street of Work-Life Balance04:38 Life's Tensions: Beyond Work and Life06:12 Three Buckets of Life Responsibilities10:37 Embracing Anxiety and Tension12:41 Combining Rest and Activity14:10 Living in Life's Tensions15:20 Conclusion and Next StepsTo join Rocky for his next free virtual event, go to https://rockygarza.com/beyondsuccessSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/trgs/donations

Episode 496 – One Way Street Today we have James. He is 40 years old and lives in Melbourne, Australia. He took his last drink on November 20th, 2023. Sponsors for this episode: Visit Better Help today to get 10% off your first month Visit Exact Nature use code RE20 to save 20% off of your order [04:16] Thoughts from Paul: The Paris Olympic Committee opted to not sell alcohol. They were confident that they could have successfully applied to sell alcohol but still decided not to. In an article from NBC News, it mentioned the following: “While many people enjoy a casual drink, that's not always the case. According to estimates by the French Public Health Society, 49,000 people are killed a year by alcohol consumption, which also causes 120 billion euros in damages.” Them choosing not to sell alcohol proves that things are changing around the globe regarding alcohol consumption. Expanding on the topic of staying the course from last week's episode, Paul shares that sobriety is a one-way street. He has yet to hear a story where someone with alcohol-free has gone back to drinking and was happy with the decision. The common theme when it comes to what drove them back to alcohol was that they drifted from the AF community and attended less meetings or stopped altogether. They second part of this is they all said it was not a pleasant experience and many ended up right back where they were. Do not beat yourself if you do some field research. We often need those reminders to reinforce internally that you made the right decision. Paul says he hasn't met a single person who said they made the wrong choice when they decided to choose an alcohol-free life. [11:03] Kris introduces James: James lives in a rural area south of Melbourne, Australia. He is married with two kids, enjoys going to the gym and recently started playing football again. James says he had a normal upbringing. He put a lot of pressure on himself and felt like he was always being watched. Alcohol entered his life when he was around 14 and drinking helped him turn things off as an escape and he felt freedom. At 18, James moved out of his parent's home with some older friends and was drinking on extended weekends but still very functional. When he was 20, he ended up moving to London where he felt complete freedom to do whatever he wanted, including living in a pub. James continued the weekend binge drinking with very little consequence. After moving back to Australia in his late 20's, James started a successful business and met the woman who is now his wife. Over time his feelings of not being “good enough” in many areas of his life were very stressful and found James drinking more to self-medicate and disconnect. Towards the end of his drinking, James says he and his wife were very disconnected. He was acting out and taking a lot of risks. After confronting him one day, James told her his life was a mess and she told him it was either rehab or leaving. James opted for the easier option of leaving and chose an Airbnb close to a pub where he could drink and gamble. After a few days of this bender, his wife showed up and lovingly took him home. He started doing research but was scared to commit to inpatient care due to running his business. James eventually found an outpatient treatment that would suit him. He has been alcohol-free ever since. Working on his connections with his family is something James is really proud of. He looks forward to doing the step work with his sponsor in AA and growing stronger spiritually. James' biggest fear around quitting: feeling his feelings and having to digest them. James' favorite resources in recovery: Recovery Elevator podcast and a book with spiritual principles for each day that he can meditate on. James' parting piece of guidance: Stick to it, keep showing up day by day and the magic happens down the track. We are the only ones that can do this RE, but we don't have to do it alone. I love you guys. Recovery Elevator YouTube Sobriety Tracker iTunes
2024-07-21: Have you ever gone the wrong way on a one-way street? It can be disastrous. What is dangerous in a vehicle is also hazardous in religion. This week we look at a simple little nuance that has an exponential life-changing effect. And if we miss it we may end up going the wrong way! Are you going the right way? Join us this week and find out.
339 Help Is Not A One Way Street Our personal narratives and clutter can take up a lot of mental bandwidth, often leading us to hold on to the stories and labels that no longer serve us and keep us living in the past with a version of ourselves that has changed drastically. It's incredibly important to take time to assess what in your life no longer serves you, thanking it for the time it did serve you, and letting go. In this episode Sarah Elkins reminisces on her backpacking trip to Utah and how it inspired her to give and accept help, as well as how organizing her family's collection of books inspired her to take a long hard look at the other stories she still carries with her. Highlights Less clutter, more calm. Offering and accepting help does not change how mighty you are. You have to share vulnerability with people you trust in order to build and strengthen relationships. Quotes “We all need to declutter, especially our stories that no longer serve us.” “When we say yes to someone that wants to help, we strengthen our relationship with them. When we consistently say ‘No thank you', we make it less likely someone will ask us for help or to accept what we offer.” “To truly deepen relationships, we also have to be able to receive.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, What are you holding on to that maybe it's time to discard or reframe? What new labels and stories will you choose? I know some of mine; Badass, strong, outdoorsy, receptive to receive. And, as always, thank you for listening. About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. Be sure to check out the Storytelling For Professionals Course as well to make sure you nail that next interview!

May 11, 2024 Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Novelist and Life Coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Saturday, May 11, 2024, and this is episode #13 in Season 2024. This episode is titled “The One-Way Street.”A widespread notion has taken hold of the world-at-large that there are many ways to Heaven. Friend, hear me when I tell you that this is a blatant lie that is leading countless people straight into the pit of Hell. Just as you must drive in only one direction on a one-way street or else you will be punished by the law, so must you take a one-way street to Heaven or else you will be punished forever. That one way street is Jesus Christ. The problem with the world today is that we think we can make our own rules without any consequences. That, too, is a lie. God has already made the rules, and if we try to change them, we will be in big trouble. As in, going to Hell. So, you may be thinking, "Dr. MaryAnn, who are you to tell me that I can't make my own rules? I can choose whatever way I want to get to Heaven. After all, it's my life."To answer your question as to who I am, "I am no one, really, to tell you what to do. I'm not the one making the rules. God has already made the rules. He is God, and I am not. My job is simply to warn you about the rules that God has already made—and that are unchangeable, by the way—so that you will not end up in Hell and suffer torment there forever. All that I do, then, is to inform you about the rules so that you can lead a happy, successful, peaceful life and so that you will not go to Hell when you die. You might further ask, "What's it to you whether I go to Hell or not?" My friend, you may find this difficult to understand, but I recognize you as a masterpiece created by God. A person God wants to make His child, to be a part of His family forever and ever. Because I love God, I love you, and I do not want to see you suffer, especially suffer the eternal punishment of Hell.Let me put it like this: God created you for fellowship with Himself. Satan hates that truth and wants to destroy you so that you will never experience that fellowship with the wonderful, awesome God Who made you. You see, Satan hates God and everything God has made, especially people. And he hates you! So Satan throws lies your way—like the lie that there are many ways to Heaven—to get you off course and going in the wrong direction, away from God. Now, you may be wondering how I know there is only one way to Heaven. I know on the authority of the words of Jesus Christ Himself, the Son of God Who cannot lie. Jesus said this in the New Testament Book of John, chapter 14, verse 6: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Did you hear that? Jesus said, "I am the Way to the Father. God the Father lives in Heaven. Since Jesus is the only way to the Father, Jesus is the only Way to Heaven." But because God loves you, He never forces you to do anything. He gave you a free will so that you could be—well, free! Why did God make you to be free? Because He wants you to love Him because you want to love Him, not because He is forcing you to love Him. You see, forced love is not love at all. It is coercion.Would you want your spouse or children or best friend to love you because you forced them to? Of course not! That wouldn't be love at all. You want them to love you because they want to love you.So it is with God. Because God the Father loves you, He has prepared a special place for you in Heaven, where He lives. But there is only one way to get there. That way is through Jesus Christ. Now, you may be asking, why does Jesus have to be the only way I can get to Heaven? Here is the short version: When our first parents, Adam and Eve, were created, they were connected to God. God gave them dominion over the earth. But when our first Mom and Dad sinned by disobeying God, they were disconnected from Him and forfeited that d...

Folks, I am tired of the Freedom From Religion crowd LYING to America about our religious freedom. Today I am going to SHRED their arguments and show how you can use Separation of C&S to argue FOR Religious speech. A couple weeks ago, Auburn's head football coach, Hugh Freeze, helped baptize about 200 students on the spur of the moment. It was completely voluntary. But immediately, the Freedom from Religion Foundation, from way up in Madison, Wisconsin, cried foul. Let me quickly unpack this for you and then I want to PLAY and SHRED 3 clips for you from atheist podcaster, Kyle Kulinski. Coach Freeze should be applauded and supported for his authenticity. He loves Jesus. He loves the students, and it shows. Jesus said we should shine our light. That's all Coach Freeze was doing. In a day when most Christians hide their light, folks, this guy's an inspiration. My dad, Bill Bright, once said, “The average Christian risks offending God, for fear of offending man.” Not coach Freeze. There are a lot of folks in addition to Kyle and FFRF that are trying to keep you from shining your light…. We should all seek to be more like Coach Freeze and start shining our light where God has planted us. Not only is the future of our country at stake, but the eternal souls of our neighbors are at stake. Do you love your neighbors enough to take the risk to shine the light of Jesus in the darkness? Coach Freeze, you're now one of my heroes. So, this is for you from a CU fan. War Eagle! Go God! God IS the Issue—in every issue. Help us get the word out. Like, Share and Subscribe to this podcast.

Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening. Now on to my guest for today, Kim Sorrelle, a longtime entrepreneur, director of the humanitarian organization Rays of Hope for Haiti and author. Kim's first and second book were written in wake of tragedy. In this podcast, Kim opens up about her experiences with her husband being diagnosed with cancer, followed by her husband's death just six weeks later. Married out of high school, Kim built a life and family with her husband by her side. To cope with the experiences and grief, Kim wrote and shared her writings by email. That resulted in her first book, Cry Until You Laugh. Her second book, Love Is, draws on Kim's experiences of losing her husband and also her humanitarian work in Haiti after its disastrous earthquake. It was written in response to her search for the real meaning of love, using the famous Biblical verse from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 that starts, "Love is patient, love is kind" as a guidepost. While there's no magic answer for getting over the devastating loss of someone you love, Kim offers some good insight into how she has coped with grief, including deciding to choose the things you can control and being of service, which gives her purpose. Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights Kim says, "You have permission to live a great life." She emphasizes that crying is a natural expression of grief, and that it's also okay to laugh, too. Getting cancer and losing a spouse are not things anyone can control. Instead Kim focuses on things she can control, and focuses on what she needs to do to be happy. Being of service can be the greatest healer. It's also good business. This time it's personal ...Sergeant Erik and Chief Inspectors Bobby Beaton and John Davis, of the Gruesomes, embark on an investigation of one of the most notorious garage rock cold cases of all time: the mystery of Jack The Ripper! We seek the truth regarding:Who released the song first?Who covered whose version? Why are there SO MANY versions of this ill-advised, tasteless song?!Clarence Stacy & Group commit the first crime, with their largely unreported original version (7:12).You'll want to avert your eyes from our second assault on the ears, which is by Screaming Lord Sutch (42:27).For our third version, The One Way Street contribute the first big break in the case: they incorporate the Peter Gunn riff and add a bunch of nutso lyrics (1:10:44).The next gruesome incident comes to you from the Gruesomes, themselves. They confess to a crime of necessity committed mostly because they were able to play the riff (1:45:06).Next, the Horrors copycat-kill the song with the most “Dracula-Shit” version yet, and we enter into evidence a shocking item: an interview with the Horrors by Nardwuar, in which he confronts the band and demands to know their source (2:00:32).And finally, the last - and least-long - version, arrives via the White Stripes, who distract you from the grisly nature of the scene with a wild, shred guitar solo (2:18:08).Who actually committed this crime in 4/4 time? Few age-related diseases are more devastating than Alzheimer's. A recent study from Columbia University suggests in individuals 65+ years of age, 10% have a dementia diagnosis and almost 25% have a diagnosis of MCI or mild cognitive decline. For the 90+ age demographic, over 30% have a dementia diagnosis. The costs to the individuals and those who care for them is staggering. In this recording, mark and John review the data from this paper (Annals of Neurology October 2022) and offer a different perspective on how to prevent, what today, feels like a one-way street.
It's a Deep Dive Thursday on the show and we take a look at the "Respect for Marriage Act" from a critical thinking and religious background. Does it really respect marriage? What about protecting religious definitions and public practice of religion? What's actually in the bill and the amendment that the LDS Church supported? Also, is it really a compromise if I have to give and there's no take? Also, how do you solve our declining birth-rate in America? Amnesty for all the illegals, of course.

Matthew 6:14-15 says:"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." - Matthew 6:14-15It's often true that we have no problem accepting forgiveness from God for our sins but when someone sins against us, that's another story. Whenever we are sinned against, we must choose to remember the extent to which God has released us from our sins through the blood of His Son (Revelation 1:5). Our horizontal forgiveness of other sinners is related to our vertical forgiveness from God.Remember, forgiveness is not a one-way street, it's meant to be shared with everyone.
It's sad that the religious groups of the world cannot decide or agree upon how we get to heaven. Jesus was pretty clear; He is the way, He is the truth, and He is the life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pastordwaynenbbc/message

The inevitable confrontation between the global state's enforcers and its chattel (you) seems to be very close as the powers that be grow more bold and aggressive everyday. We live in unprecedented times, and seemingly everything is on the table. There is no line they will not cross in pursuit of their ideology. They cannot be reasoned or bargained with. They are extreme people, and extreme people do extreme things. It would take an act of God for these maniacs to turn back now. Unfortunately, we will be forced to play this game to its conclusion. Whatever that is, it will not be pretty.

*** AFTER THIS EPISODE, WE'RE TAKING A WEEK OFF! WE'LL BACK ON THE 27TH SEPTEMBER! *** Victorians have hit their first big vaccine milestone of 70 percent first dose coverage, and have been given a slight reprieve in lockdown restrictions. Small outdoor gatherings, increased distances of travel for shopping or exercise and reopening of outdoor exercise equipment are some of the changes. But as Melbourne - and Sydney - take small steps to eventual reopening, what are the chances that they - or other parts of the country - will end up back in lockdown down the line? Also on today's show: * Do NSW data show that our vaccines might be better at preventing infection than we thought? * Peer reviewed data from Israel shows boosters work for the Pfizer vaccine * How long will it be until a person with COVID-19 does not need to isolate for 14 days? * Has any research been conducted to determine a difference in vaccine reactions between males and females? * My son is 15 months old and has never been sick. Is there any research about what COVID-19 might do with an almost completely new immune system?
