In this sermon from John 4:43–54 titled Faith and Fact-Checking, Pastor Thomas walks us through the story of a desperate father, a dying son, and a Savior whose word is enough. In a culture obsessed with proof—where belief often hinges on what we can verify with our eyes—this passage challenges us to consider a different kind of faith. A faith that isn't built on spectacle or emotion, but on the spoken Word of Christ. Through four scenes—The Superficial Welcome, The Supernatural Weight, The Spoken Word, and The Saving Work—we're invited to see how Jesus exposes shallow belief, honors persistent trust, and ultimately transforms not just an individual, but an entire household. This is a call to deeper faith: faith without sight, faith that takes Jesus at His word, and faith that bears fruit in the home.
What happens when a major newspaper publishes a summer reading list where only five of the 15 books actually exist? Blake and David explore this real example of AI-generated content gone wrong and what it means for accounting professionals who increasingly rely on automated tools. They break down QuickBooks' latest price increases, demonstrate how AI can now build complex consolidation spreadsheets in minutes, and discuss why Excel skills still outrank AI knowledge in finance hiring. Plus, they examine the legal challenges facing Trump's tariff policies, alternative CPA pathway expansion, and hear from accounting student Jason Farley about the dangerous gap between classroom education and real-world cloud accounting practice.SponsorsPayhawk - http://accountingpodcast.promo/payhawkKeeper - http://accountingpodcast.promo/keeper REFRAME 2025 - http://accountingpodcast.promo/reframe2025 TeamUp - http://accountingpodcast.promo/teamupChapters(00:48) - Summer Reading List Mishap (02:52) - AI and the Future of Fact-Checking (05:27) - AI Video Generators and Fake News (08:20) - QuickBooks and AI Pricing Debate (09:16) - Elon Musk and Government Efficiency (10:41) - The Big Beautiful Bill and Its Implications (18:29) - Tariffs and Trade Wars (39:48) - Excel vs AI in Finance (42:42) - The Rise of Excel: A Brief History (43:44) - Introducing Perplexity AI: A Versatile Tool (53:56) - Alternative CPA Pathways and Legislative Changes (55:07) - The Role of the PCAOB in Audit Quality (59:25) - Controversies Surrounding IRS Commissioner Nominee Billy Long (01:03:59) - The Future of Accounting Internships and Outsourcing (01:20:20) - Perplexity's Onboarding Process: Results and Insights (01:24:38) - Upcoming Conferences and Closing Remarks Show NotesChicago Sun-Times fake summer reading list article https://www.chicagosuntimes.com/fake-summer-reading-list-2025South Carolina passes alternative CPA pathway legislation https://www.scstatehouse.gov/cpa-pathway-legislation-2025New Jersey alternative CPA pathway bill https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bills/cpa-alternative-pathway-2025Oregon CPA licensure reform legislation https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/cpa-pathway-reform-2025Minnesota CPA education requirements change https://www.revisor.mn.gov/cpa-education-requirements-2025Illinois CPA pathway legislation https://www.ilga.gov/cpa-pathway-bill-2025Trump tariffs constitutional challenge court ruling https://www.reuters.com/legal/trump-tariffs-constitutional-challenge-2025Court of International Trade blocks global tariffs https://www.cit.uscourts.gov/trump-tariffs-ruling-2025International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariff authority https://www.treasury.gov/ieepa-tariff-authority-analysisPCAOB elimination provision in tax bill https://www.congress.gov/bill/pcaob-elimination-provisionBilly Long IRS Commissioner confirmation hearing https://www.finance.senate.gov/billy-long-confirmation-hearingBilly Long tribal tax credits promotion controversy https://www.irs.gov/tribal-tax-credits-fraud-warningFederal Tax Updates podcast with Danny Werfel https://federaltaxupdates.com/danny-werfel-interviewSolutions Magazine Excel vs AI survey https://solutionsmagazine.com/excel-ai-finance-survey-2025Microsoft Excel 40th anniversary analysis https://www.technologylab.com/excel-40-years-anniversaryQuickBooks pricing increases for AI features https://quickbooks.intuit.com/pricing-changes-ai-features-2025Puzzle AI accounting platform pricing https://puzzle.io/pricingDigits AI bookkeeping service costs https://digits.com/pricing-plansUplink AI bookkeeping pricing structure https://uplink.com/ai-bookkeeping-pricingAltman Dublin AI accounting company funding https://altman.ie/series-a-funding-announcementPerplexity Labs spreadsheet creation feature https://labs.perplexity.ai/spreadsheet-toolsMicrosoft Office bundling strategy vs Lotus 123https://www.computerhistory.org/excel-lotus-competitionMeet our Guest, Chayton FarleeLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chaytonfarlee/Need CPE?Get CPE for listening to podcasts with Earmark: https://earmarkcpe.comSubscribe to the Earmark Podcast: https://podcast.earmarkcpe.comGet in TouchThanks for listening and the great reviews! In this episode of Hashtag Trending, host Jim Love discusses NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's criticism of US export controls on AI chips that have led to significant financial losses for his company while bolstering Chinese AI competitors like Huawei. NVIDIA faces an $8 billion revenue loss due to restricted H20 chip exports to China. Huang argues that these policies are accelerating Chinese innovation and undermining US global leadership in AI technology. The episode also highlights Getty Images CEO Craig Peters' struggle with the high costs of litigating AI copyright infringement cases. Peters reveals that even a major company like Getty cannot afford to fight every instance of AI firms using copyrighted content without permission, creating a severe economic imbalance. The script ends with an exploration of the high rate of 'hallucinations' by AI in legal research and the resulting professional risks for lawyers, emphasizing the need for more stringent fact-checking. 00:00 Introduction and Headlines 00:26 NVIDIA's Struggles with US Export Controls 03:52 Getty Images' Battle Against AI Copyright Infringement 07:13 Legal Challenges with AI-Generated Fake Case Law 10:53 The Importance of Fact-Checking in AI Research 12:29 Conclusion and Viewer Engagement

Picking Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine sceptic, as the Secretary for Public Health might not be the most ‘out there' thing the Trump administration has done but it certainly raised some eyebrows. Since his appointment Kennedy has been on a mission to ‘Make America Healthy again' and has set his sights on finding ‘the cure' for Autism. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that can affect how someone communicates, socialises, learns and behaves. In the 1980's one study estimated that 4 in 10,000 (1 in 2500) children in Wisconsin had an Autism diagnosis. Recent data from the Centres for Disease control states that 1 in 31 eight year olds in the US have the condition. Why have the numbers gone up? Is it due to environmental toxins as Robert Kennedy suggests or does the answer lie in the counting? Strange things have been happening to science in the US. An executive order is freezing research, a website with once scientific information now looks kinda like it's advertising a reality show … even milkshakes have been caught in the fray. Milkshakes! On top of this, research projects studying everything from vaccine hesitancy to Covid-19 to climate change have been cut. The Trump administration says that a big reason for the cuts is to stop government waste and boost the economy. Today on the show: What is going on with science in the US right now, and will these cuts ultimately help the economy? To find out, we talk to Nature reporter Max Koslov, virologist Dr. Seema Lakdawala and economist Professor Andrew Fieldhouse. In episode 690, Megan chats to Danielle Madden about how generative AI uses significant environmental resources and how content creators can use the technology more ethically. Danielle Madden founded Project Meal Plan in 2016 after spending too many lunch breaks searching for mediocre food while working her office job. Her educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, and hands-on training as a Seattle Urban Nature Guide. Danielle loves being prepared (especially with food), and is usually the first one to arrive at a gathering with a homemade dish to share. At Project Meal Plan, Danielle focuses on make-ahead food and sharing tools to help others plan their own meals. In this episode, you'll learn how generative AI works, how to understand its environmental impact, and how to implement sustainable practices in business. Key points discussed include: - Generative AI Uses Significant Resources: Data centers consume substantial water and electricity through complex cooling processes. - Water Consumption is Substantial: ChatGPT uses approximately 500 milliliters of fresh water per 20-50 questions. - Environmental Impact Varies: Different AI platforms have varying resource consumption levels, though specifics are not transparent. - Ethical Usage Matters: Content creators should critically evaluate when and how they use AI tools. - Prompt Writing is Key: More specific, detailed prompts can reduce unnecessary AI usage and resource consumption. - Fact-Checking is Essential: Always review and verify AI-generated content for accuracy. - Small Actions Add Up: Implementing sustainable practices in business can create meaningful environmental impact. - Transparency Helps: Consider creating a sustainability policy that acknowledges your commitment to responsible technology use. TikTok is going to be testing a new crowd-sourced fact-checking system called Footnotes. It's seems similar to the Community Notes systems already in use on other social media, such as X and Facebook. TikTok is also keeping its current fact-checking systems in place. The way these community systems generally work is, say someone makes a post stating "whales are the biggest fish out there." Another user could add a note saying "actually, whales are mammals, and here's a source with more information."Marketplace's Stephanie Hughes spoke with Vanderbilt psychology professor Lisa Fazio about why this model of "citizen fact-checking" is catching on.

President Trump has repeatedly shared many incorrect statements about Tariffs. In this video, I am fact-checking a small number of Trump's Tariff Sound Bites. As a marketing expert, Trump has shared his gimmick of what it takes to convince people to buy his product. It goes something like this: Repeat a lie over and over and over again, and eventually people will believe it. After failing miserably as a real estate tycoon, declaring bankruptcy more than five times, he moved into television and politics. And he uses "The Big Lie" gimmick every day. This is dangerous and wrong,
When he published The Great Gatsby 100 years ago this week, F. Scott Fitzgerald thought he'd written the Great American Novel. But it was a commercial flop. What drives nutrition experts up the wall? In this candid, unfiltered conversation with EvidenceNutrition (Edin), Liam, and Rob dive deep into the most frustrating myths and misconceptions plaguing the nutrition space today. The gloves come off as they tackle head-on the absurdity of claims like "pomegranates make your breasts perkier" while breaking down why study methodology matters and why some claims are too ridiculous to even warrant scientific investigation. Through equal parts exasperation and humor, they expose the tactics used by content creators who prioritize engagement over accuracy. From the demonization of carbohydrates—"the primary energy source of the body"—to unfounded fears about seed oils and diet sodas, the conversation reveals how nuanced nutritional science gets flattened into misleading black-and-white narratives on social media. For Edin, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, these mischaracterizations aren't just annoying—they can be potentially dangerous. The episode takes a fascinating turn when the three break down the exact formula for creating viral fear-mongering content: take a beloved product, claim it contains something "banned in Europe," create a shocking visual, and watch the views roll in regardless of accuracy. This insider perspective helps listeners develop a critical eye for the content they consume.Perhaps most revealing is their discussion about creator integrity and brand deals, where they share stories about declining lucrative offers from companies whose products they couldn't honestly endorse. It's a rare glimpse into the ethical challenges nutrition content creators face in an industry where financial incentives can sometimes encourage compromise.Want to cut through the noise and understand which nutrition claims deserve your attention? This episode delivers equal parts entertainment and education from three creators committed to evidence over engagement. Why numbers are only as compelling as the narratives we attach to them.Facts and figures can be your friend, but before you load your presentation full of data, Miro Kazakoff has a word of caution: “Data's objective, but people are not.”You might think that your data speaks for itself, but Kazakoff says numbers need a narrative. A senior lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management and author of Persuading with Data: A Guide to Designing, Delivering, and Defending Your Data, he says the key to making data persuasive isn't about showing more information — it's about understanding your audience well enough to know how to relay it in a way that will connect with them. "The people who get good at this are not so much the people who can talk and draw graphs well, but the people who can listen the best. It starts with is empathy.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Kazakoff joins Matt Abrahams to explore how to transform complex data into clear, compelling communication. From avoiding the "curse of knowledge" to effectively orienting your audience through visualizations, he shares practical strategies for making your data not just informative, but persuasive.Episode Reference Links:Miro KazakoffMiro's Book: Persuading with DataEp.49 Make Numbers Count: How to Communicate Data Effectively Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:14) - How to Use Data Persuasively (04:01) - The Curse of Knowledge in Data Communication (06:26) - The Best Way to Present Data Visually (08:41) - The Role of Context in Making Data Meaningful (10:53) - Orienting Your Audience When Presenting Data (13:29) - Storytelling in Data Communication (15:30) - The Final Three Questions (20:29) - Conclusion ********Become a Faster Smarter Supporter by joining TFTS Premium.
