We wrap up So Many Santas on So Many Sequels with Miracle on 34th Street (1947), the Christmas classic that starts out as a department store comedy and somehow turns into a straight-up courtroom drama. We talk Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) getting put on the stand, the movie's surprisingly spicy take on Christmas commercialism, and how everyone around him goes from “aww, cute Santa guy” to “call the authorities” in record time.By the end, it's less “Ho ho ho” and more “Your Honor, I'd like to call the U.S. Postal Service.” So what's your verdict—are you buying the magic, or do you need the paperwork to believe? Drop your take in the comments, and subscribe & leave us a review.

The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan, Manny, & Billy invite longtime friend Dave Kucich back on the pod to put the 1947 Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “The plot [of Miracle on 34th Street], is basically there's a guy who's nice to everyone [and] everyone is just very weirded out by that. Like he is just a nice dude, he knows how to speak Dutch, he's nice to the kids, he's helping people out, he's anti-capitalism. He's all these things, and everyone's like, f*** this guy.”  -Dan Happy Holidays! This episode is so much fun. It's a classic Nostalgia Test Podcast tangent episode full of Christmas hot takes, deep dives into favorite scenes and odd 1940s behavior, and the guys finally crack the case on whether Santa is real or not. And it wouldn't be an episode of The Nostalgia Test Podcast without that Long Island ball busting you've come to love on the pod. Plus, you're going to want to hear all the Santa Claus conspiracies, Christmas traditions, calling out creepy guys, and all while their other longtime friend Steve Herrera is driving to Taco Bell. Episode 100: Miracle on 34th Street Ho ho ho! For our 100th episode, the gang celebrates Philosophy in Film's centenary by stepping into the warm glow of a holiday classic with the original Miracle on 34th Street (1947). This timeless courtroom tale explores whether faith, goodwill, and a touch of magic still have a place in a modern, skeptical world. Craig lights the tree with Producer's Notes (11:49), spreading seasonal cheer with stories of reflection and festive mischief. Alain unwraps the story with the Beauclair Synopsis (20:47), laying out the film's gentle clash between legal rationality and childlike wonder as Kris Kringle finds himself on trial for being Santa Claus. Chris then settles into Philosopher's Corner (47:40), reflecting on the divinity of Santa and gods, and how choosing to believe in simple goodness can quietly generate hope without demanding miracles. The gang gathers at the Round Table (59:11) to share memories, arguments, and warm takes on belief and cynicism, before Reviews (1:37:08) and the Mailbag (1:43:12) shed light on our listeners' most hard-hitting questions. As always, we explore the philosophical and non-philosophical heart of the film, reminding ourselves that sometimes the most radical act is simply believing in good. ‼️December 21 @ Metro Cinema‼️

At the Movies: Christmas EditionIn this first week of Advent, we explore the theme of hope through the classic film Miracle on 34th Street, a story about belief, wonder, and opening ourselves to something bigger than we can logically prove. Just as Susan wrestles with whether Santa is real, many people wrestle with whether God is real and trustworthy—especially in moments of darkness or doubt. Scripture shows us that God doesn't run from our questions; He steps into them. In Jesus—the Word made flesh, the visible image of the invisible God—we see God revealing Himself, entering our world, and giving us reason for deep, grounded hope. Advent reminds us that in a world filled with confusion and consumerism, light still breaks into darkness. Hope has come because Jesus has come.

In the 1960s, Natalie Wood was one of the world's leading actress, her star shining as bright as Elizabeth Taylor's. She'd been acting since she was a small child, appearing in movies like Miracle on 34th Street. She'd starred opposite James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, and she'd been linked romantically to Warren Beatty, Michael Caine, Elvis Presley, and Dennis Hopper. And her husband, actor Robert Wagner, may have gotten away with killing her off of Catalina Island in 1981, during a weekend getaway the couple shared with none other than Christoper Walken. For Merch and everything else Bad Magic related, head to: https://www.badmagicproductions.com

Rivka and Frank close out the year with a final “holiday duet” on the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street. They debate whether Kris Kringle is in fact the REAL Santa or just the world's greatest salesman. Released during the second Red Scare, it's unsurprising that the film's core moral is the need for “altruistic capitalism.” But is it OK to allow a potentially unwell old man around thousands of children? As long as he's making money — who cares, it turns out! Don't get us wrong, we both love this movie but HOLY SHIT this story is wild.  MVC will be off until 2025, but we'll be back with an episode on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Santa exists because the people will it to exist"—a lovely line from The Miracle on 34th Street sets the stage for this episode's deep dive into Bitcoin hitting the monumental $100K mark. But is Bitcoin really money? Or just a speculative asset fuelled by belief and lobbying? As we explore the parallels between wampum shells, tulip bulbs, and digital currencies, we unravel the irony of Bitcoin's journey from anti-establishment rebellion to Wall Street darling. Is this the dawn of a MAGA-backed financial revolution, or a precarious bet on an apocalyptic future where the dollar falters? And what happens when speculative euphoria meets institutional leverage? From New York's vibrant streets to its historical roots as a trading hub, we examine how faith—whether in Santa Claus, Bitcoin, or the dollar—has always been the driving force behind the world's currencies.
