Alert! This is a very exciting episode, featuring a fabulous, cute and relatable person who we all know and love - Peter Tucci! You've seen him on stage, you've seen him in the gym and you've seen him on your TVs and apps as an instructor on obé. But he's really just a Southern boy in a cosmopolitan world (I got this language from his shop - Tucci Attack) who isn't afraid to express himself and look b-e-a-utiful while doing it. On this episode we chat about life, love, aliens, body image, dance, Pride and in a nutshell just loving who you are and being happy where you're at. For many of you, it will be the first time hearing the more "serious" side of Peter and you're welcome! This is a slightly abridged but essentially unedited episode, so we could live into the theme of being #authentic. The original episode was 37 hours long. Enjoy! Links from the show! Meowww! We are back with another VERY exciting guest. And she gets REAL. That's right, everything we love about doing good - bad words, funny jokes, passion and angst! She's just a real human trying to make real change. Cat Besch is the Founder and CEO of Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue (VAAR), a 501c3 nonprofit operating in Hoi An, Vietnam since 2013. She opened the first nonprofit veterinary clinic and the only farm sanctuary in the country. VAAR runs a sanctuary for dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, and hedgehogs as well as projects for community outreach, sterilization and vet training programs, and vegan education programs for children and animal rescue groups. Cat has experienced a variety of political, cultural, and economic barriers in her work in Vietnam and continues to fight for animal rights globally and against speciesism and xenophobia within the animal advocacy movement. On this episode we chat about the process of starting a nonprofit in animal rights field and some of the major barriers which make it different from organizations doing the same work in other countries, especially the US. We also chat about activist burnout/compassion fatigue and the importance of self care in social justice movements, particularly in animal rights. And of course, the public view on compensation for those working in the nonprofit sector, assumptions about volunteer reliance and the importance of hiring skilled professionals. Fun and spunky stuff! Where to begin! After 2 weeks on the road we are back with a very VERY inspirational episode. I speak with Dawn Daniels-McNear who has been involved deeply with so many organizations and initiatives that this episode could have probably been broken down into a full season. Her life experience has provided her with a strong backbone and determination to provide empathy and support, working 1-1 with individuals experiencing or overcoming trauma. But that’s not all! She also likes wine and dives deep into how she helped to create a very COOL charter school - I learned so much about charter schools that I’m thinking I need to go back in time and attend one. Anyway, the long of the short is …she is just a woman trying to make a difference in the world around her by raising responsible children, being active in her community and working to serve EVERYDAY. And she provides easy tips for giving back everyday in your own life! Here are some of the links to the organizations mentioned in the pod: Life Beyond the Streets Inc. This episode will accompany a full-length recording soon to be released! In partnership with, StreetWise Partners we dove into some very important and frequently asked questions like.. what should I spritz my resume with, what font should I use, etc.. While Washington D.C. has seen steady job growth over the past few years, this growth has been disproportionate. For those from overlooked communities, unemployment sits near recession levels. Individuals from these communities rarely have access to soft and professional skills training critical for job success, creating an opportunity gap that exacerbates inequality. :::podcastception:::For the first time in Do Good Feel Good history, we welcome another podcast to the show - Jacksonville's own, Cup to Cup!Cup to Cup is just a bunch of guys talking about random but very entertaining man stuff like sports, beer, super heros, and more! Best of all - their fans actually interact with the pod! It's a super funny and enlightening show - featuring ZERO politics. On this episode we welcome Cup to Cup profounder and producer, Jason - "a Florida raised, a Florida State University grad, Florida resident and Florida hater (the state and university). He’s the friend that you handle in small doses but need around to make things a little more interesting. He has few hobbies, loves his patient and beautiful wife, has 2 kickass labs and also owns the Packers. On the show, he’s the one in the background trying to keep the crew on track, talking about random things he finds on Instagram, that no one cares about. Jason’s skills can be easily described in 4 words; jack of useless trades." We also have the pleasure of hearing from that previously mentioned very patient and beautiful wife. :)do good: Cup to Cup is sponsoring a local beer and mac n cheese competition (yet to be named) in Jacksonville, to benefit rescued pups! more deets to come!feel good:: We are recording in a special beer making room at Fishweir Upcoming LIVE shows:Benefiting Habitat for Humanity International: 7:30 PM: September 26, 2019 at DC Comedy Loft and Bier Baron Tavern.
