Ever feel like you're losing yourself in midlife?  In this powerful episode, I'm sitting down with expert Ashley Turner to explore the deeper meaning behind midlife hormonal changes in perimenopause and menopause.  Ashley helps you discover how perimenopause can be a profound reckoning, discussing how this stage of life invites us to shift from ego-driven goals toward greater purpose and compassion for others… and more importantly, for yourself.  Ashley beautifully reframes midlife as not an ending, but a spiritual awakening — a chance to realign with who we are and what we value.  We also dive into how embracing this change can spark healing, empowerment, and advocacy for ourselves and others.  Tune in for an inspiring conversation that will leave you ready to step into your next chapter with grace and intention. Ashley Turner Ashley Turner is a Licensed Psychotherapist, Psychedelic Therapist, renowned yoga–meditation teacher, writer, facilitator, speaker, and 7-figure entrepreneur. Her mission is to serve women – especially those in midlife and menopause. She helps visionary leaders tap into their confidence and amplify their wisdom, vision, and voice by embodying their full feminine power. Her own personal midlife struggles led her to found her Metamorphosis: Midlife & Menopause Mentorship and The Haven Membership. Ashley has been featured in media outlets such as The Washington Post, Shape, Self, Women's Health, Yoga Journal, Health, MindBodyGreen, Well+Good, Sounds True, and many more. IN THIS EPISODE Recognizing the symptoms of perimenopause  Ashley's work supporting women mentally and emotionally  How hormones can help some but not ALL symptoms  Why being intentional about your choices matters more in midlife  Lifestyle habits for optimal physical and mental health  How we can shift the culture around perimenopause awareness  How to cultivate your sense of community in midlife  How Perimenoapuse can be one of your greatest teachers  QUOTES “Once I got on the hormones, that was extremely helpful and it totally saved my life, and I love them… [but] it didn't solve all my problems. There's still a huge developmental phase that we're going through as women. People going through menopause, huge transitions in our sense of self, our ambition, our drive, who we are, our identity, of course sexuality, and that's a lot to manage on top of everything else that's happening in life.” “For a lot of women, it's taking 4 to 6 appointments for doctors to connect the dots between what they're going through and it being perimenopause and menopause. And what that does is it delays care, it delays treatment, and it delays a woman's quality of life.”  “I think telling the stories and sharing really authentically and vulnerably and transparently is such an important piece of this because we heal together. We are changing culture. We are weaving a new sisterhood, a new ethos. We also have to educate our partners, our children, our work environments, and really shape shift the culture.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Order my new book The Perimenopause Revolution https://drmariza.com/book Use code ENERGIZED and get 20% off on your Timeline order  http://timeline.com/ENERGIZED Ashley Turner The Haven Community  Metamorphosis: Master Menopause and Midlife  Ashley Turner on Instagram RELATED EPISODES  690: The Perimenopause Revolution: Why midlife isn't the end — it's the beginning of your most energized, powerful, and vibrant self 689: The Hidden Brain Shift: Why Perimenopause Symptoms Start Earlier Than You Think 685: End Emotional Outsourcing: Break Free from Codependency, Perfectionism & People-Pleasing with Beatriz Albina #629: Unlocking Emotional Resilience with Awareness, Lifestyle and Tools to Regulate Your Stress Triggers with Dr. Drew Ramsey

Growing up in the 90s, many of us were unwittingly steeped in a toxic diet culture. From ultra-skinny models gracing the covers of magazines to the relentless promotion of fad diets, hello cabbage soup, Atkins, Slim Fast, etc. The message was clear; thinner is better, and self-worth is tied to appearance. Fast forward to today, and we're now navigating a journey towards self-love and improved body image, unlearning the damaging beliefs of our youth and trying to set up our daughters (and sons) for a more positive and loving body image towards oneself. Here are some of my favorite accounts to follow on Social Media that I talk about in this episode - Allison Marketti, Sadie Nardini, Ashley Turner, Lauren Cadilac ( feelgooddietitian), Same Previte (find.food.freedom), Alex Light (alexlight_Idn), Victoria Browne, Callie Gullickson, Dana Mercer Ricci, Erin from rawbeautytalks, Sarah Nicole Landry (thebirdspapaya), Kylie Kelce (kykelce), Abby Langer (langernutrition) These accounts are very inclusive for everyone and very body positive. In this episode: - Self-Compassion - How to Practice self-compassion. - Speak to yourself with kindness and recognize that self-worth isn't tied to physical appearance. - I use a few affirmations daily. You are worthy, You are kind, You are strong, You are beautiful Even if on some days I am not feeling it or believe it, I always say them. There is scientific research that this can really help rewire our brain and mood. Also mentioned in this episode daily walking meditations. The ones I do are my own and Cassandra Bodzak. Here at the I Heart My Life community, we believe mental health should be a priority. Your mental health is one of the few things in life that you can't ignore because the consequences of doing so are just too grave. You see, nothing matters more than your own personal joy and happiness. Not work, not money, nothing… And if anything, taking care of your mental wellbeing can help you grow in your professional life, even if you have to take a day to breathe every once in a while. Someone who knows this better than anyone else I know is the amazing Ashley Turner. Ashley is a longtime yoga meditation teacher and licensed psychotherapist. She's been in private clinical practice for over a decade, and during the time, Ashley has combined yoga, meditation, and breath work with classical mental health psychology to help her clients. Ashley now primarily teaches yoga and meditation professionals how to incorporate more psychological work and exercises into their services. She also works with mental health professionals and teaches them how to integrate yoga and breathwork into psychology.  Today, Ashley and I will be talking about a loooot of interesting subjects, such as the power of yoga and breathwork, moving through trauma, entrepreneurship, her fertility journey, and more. Are you ready? Because I know I am! All right, let's dive in.   In This Episode: [00:00] Introduction [00:35] Let's welcome Ashley in the show! [02:09] How Ashley discovered yoga and what led her to use it for mental health work [08:31] How Ashley healed her confidence wounds [18:43] How Ashley decided to move forward as an entrepreneur in the yoga space [24:07] Ashley shares the shadow work she had to do as she stepped into entrepreneurship [30:44] Let's talk about motherhood and Ashley's fertility journey [44:33] One final question for Ashley Quotes: “Your life is your curriculum. You don't have to study books. Just be in your life and do the best you can and you will be forced into soul lessons.” – Ashley Turner “I met a friend who was really into yoga and he introduced me to it and it started to change my life. And I don't think at the time I knew that I really was depressed and I had suffered these rejections that really dropped my self-esteem. I sort of had like this idyllic eighteen years and then as soon as I got to college, I really lost my sense of self and my confidence. And so then after college when I found yoga, it started to heal me from the inside out.” – Ashley Turner “Yoga really is a psychology. Yoga is a study of the soul, it's a study of how we optimize living this human life, this body, [and] how we master our minds and emotions.” – Ashley Turner “One of my teachers would always say the goal [of therapy] is to move from judgment to understanding. So how do I move from judging myself maybe for having that trigger to really understanding and having compassion for why that might be here?” – Ashley Turner “If you're just addressing the physical level and you're working to get fit and strong and flexible [through yoga], it will still have an effect on your mental health and your energetic capacity.” – Ashley Turner “The breath is the link between the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.” – Ashley Turner   Links & Resources: Ready to Uplevel Your Life? Achieving optimal health goes well beyond how we treat our physical bodies. Of course, a good diet and movement are still crucial pillars of well-being, but just as vital is taking care of your emotional and mental health. There's a feedback loop between the physical and emotional bodies, known as the mind-body connection. It shows that we can't address one area of our health without impacting another—it's all connected.    My guest in this episode of The Brave Table, Ashley Turner, has built her life's work around this concept. She's married her love of yoga with the science of psychology as a tool to empower others to release past traumas and overcome their shadows so they can heal and thrive.     Ashley is a yoga–meditation expert, Licensed Psychotherapist, speaker, writer, facilitator, and 7-figure entrepreneur. In this episode, I had a conversation with Tumboura Hill, my friend, and former colleague, about his journey in, through, and out of workplace burnout. If you have the slightest suspicion that you are experiencing workplace burnout, this episode is for you.  I then found an article titled "The World Health Organization officially recognizes workplace 'burnout' as an occupational phenomenon, " published in May 2019, written by Ashley Turner. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/28/who-recognizes-workplace-burnout-as-an-occupational-phenomenon.html  The WHO (World Health Organization) says it is a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. I cheered this article because I felt that though workplace burnout has long existed, it is rarely talked about and in 2019, it is finally included in the latest revision of the International Classification of Diseases. My feelings quickly turned into sadness and anger because it is indeed a problem that is rarely talked about and often dismissed or minimized either by the person experiencing it or the workplace that refuses to acknowledge it.  The consequences and impact are alarming, as you will hear in this episode with Tumboura. May this episode help you stop and assess where you are and bring you hope that there is light at the end of the burnout tunnel.   Here for you, Grace

From Policing to TV Documentaries In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of catching up with an old colleague of mine, Ashley Turner. Alongside being a cop, Ash is actually a staggeringly talented professional close up magician. He was mid service, when, for a number of reasons, he decided to take a career break but after a year, got told that he had to come back or resign. Ash returned to the job but realised that it was no longer a good fit and applied for a role with Channel 4 Despatches, not for one moment, thinking he'd be successful. Ash talks us through the selection process, the moment he found out he'd been successful and the incredible programmes he's both produced and featured in since. He also explains why the TV industry could actually be a really good fit for some former cops, if you have certain personal attributes! It was so good catching up with him and you'll get an idea of the quality of this episode from the intro alone. Today we have Ashley Turner joining us. Ashley is not only an M.A., MFTI yoga meditation instructor, she is a marriage and family psychotherapy intern, writer, and I know it's out there, but she's also an ordained priestess. I wasn't totally sure what that entailed but she explains it in this episode. She goes into how to blend eastern-western yoga techniques, meditation, philosophy and traditional western psychotherapy into building a life that is deeply authentic and meaningful.
