"When I was in Tennessee, I worked at a camp over the summer, and I ran their biking program - because we were on a hill, and I was the only one who had the energy and interest in biking up and down the hill multiple times a day who had endless amounts of energy. So I quickly became pigeon holed as the biking guy."This week I had the opportunity to record the first in-person episode of the pod with Eli Minter (@noahsamuel on Instagram). If you've been to a running group in DC, you've probably come across Eli. He has been in DC for over eight years now, and has gotten to know different facets of the movement community. (Eli highlights DC Capital Striders, Mid City Runners, Pacers Run Club, NE Track Club, and District Running Collective in this episode, so if you're new to DC and looking for running pals, those are a few to explore.)Eli is friendly, super speedy, and a wealth of knowledge on bike infrastructure. In this episode, we spoke about how Capital Bikeshare has evolved over the years; European biking infrastructure and why it's difficult to just transport what's there to DC; WABA's role in DC; and how organizations such as Families for Safe Streets are striving to make roads safer. We of course talked a lot about running too! We spoke about how Eli got started running, tagging along to track workouts with his dad and older siblings; his experience starting cross country - it wasn't what he expected; his favorite marathon; and the calendar of ultras he has coming up this Fall.As always, credit to Dan Hoffman for the soundtrack. And extra credit to Eli for helping me edit this episode. Thanks so much for listening and staying engaged with Micromobility DC!

Joining me in the Huddle this week is an amazing woman, mother, player and coach. Playing hoops on the rough-and-tumble Harlem courts, Brooklyn-bred Nancy Lieberman learned to play a physical, aggressive style of basketball unlike other women of her time. As a 5'10" point guard, Lieberman was taller than many of the guards of her era, and her ability to drive to the hoop, dish out assists, and grab hard-fought rebounds served her well during her stellar career. Lieberman led Old Dominion University to back-to-back AIAW national championships in 1979 and 1980. She was twice named as the Wade Trophy winner - a basketball first. As the nation's top female athlete during those two seasons, Lieberman was the two-time winner of the Broderick Cup as well. Lieberman played professionally in the Women's Professional Basketball League, Women's American Basketball Association, United States Basketball League, Women's National Basketball Association, and with the Washington Generals. Earning WBL MVP honors with the Dallas Diamonds in 1981, she led the team to the 1984 WABA championship. I want to thank Nancy for her honest conversation and all of the incredible stories she shared with us. Her stories about Muhammed Ali, Kobe Bryant, Ice Cube and many others were incredible. It was a hard day for her because it was the anniversary of Kobe's death. They were very close. Thank you Nancy for sharing your special relationship with me and all of our listeners. This week we speak with Andy Scade and Mike Morgan, the President and Secretary of the West Australian Brewing Association. WABA as it is known, was the first association representing the interests of Australia's nascent craft brewing scene of microbrewers as they were then known. They are also the last, as the various state bodies have elected to join the IBA as state chapters, something that WABA has declined to do. With more than 50 members, it has developed into a vibrant state association and has recently launched its new look and new branding and a campaign urging West Australians to Drink West, Drink Best. We speak to Andy and Mike, who work for Lion-owned Bevy Brewing and independent Blasta Brewing about WABA and what makes WA a little different to the eastern states that have chosen independence as a flag to rally around. An elementary school math teacher gave a lesson outside his student's house while on lockdown. Madison Middle School teacher Chris Waba received an email from his student, Rylee Anderson, asking about an algebra problem. While they were exchanging emails back and forth, Waba noticed that Anderson had grown frustrated because she was having difficulty understanding the lesson. He then decided to go to her house and teach her in person. He brought a whiteboard and a marker with him and instructed Anderson to look through her front screen door. Anderson listened and took notes from inside her home as Waba explained the math problem to her. Waba's gesture caught Anderson off guard. She was expecting an online video lesson but was shocked when he actually came to her house. Despite feeling shocked, Anderson appreciated what Waba did, saying that he made the lesson easier to understand. Anderson's father was the one who encouraged her to reach out to Waba, a longtime friend and neighbor of the family. He said that Waba's action was not surprising and that the teacher would always do his best to help a student out. Anderson's father took a photo of the event and shared it on Twitter, where it has since gone viral. Social media users commended Waba's dedication, but the teacher insisted that he was just doing his job. Waba said he realized he was able to achieve his goal when Anderson expressed her appreciation. According to him, seeing that a student is satisfied with a lesson brings joy to teachers.
