In this episode of Ojai Talk of the Town, we sit down with Ojai resident Sharon Scott Williams, whose deeply personal memoir Crazy Mama has been transformed into a riveting one-woman play, premiering at the Rubicon Theatre from March 27 to April 13. Starring the incomparable star of stage and screen Linda Purl, the production brings to life 16 characters in a raw, heartbreaking, yet often humorous exploration of a daughter's decades-long struggle to save her mother from the grip of paranoid schizophrenia. We talk with Sharon about the painful yet redemptive journey that shaped her story — growing up with a mother who believed she was working for the FBI, the weight of hope and helplessness, and the profound impact of mental illness on families. Directed by TV and stage veteran Anson Williams, (Sharon's husband), Crazy Mama is a testament to resilience, love, and the complicated ties that bind us to those we hold dear.Join us for this intimate conversation as Sharon reflects on turning her trauma into art, the catharsis of storytelling, and the power of theater to foster understanding and empathy.Check out the Rubicon's website for more information - https://www.rubicontheatre.org/events/crazy-mama/

Sharon Scott Williams bares her soul in a play called Crazy Mama, a powerful, personal story that's at once unique and wholly relatable. It's about family, mental illness and the bonds and devotion that propel us to protect and defend those we hold dear. Crazy Mama is running at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, CA March 26 - April 6, 2025. It stars Linda Purl and is directed by Anson Williams, both icons of classic TV, including Happy Days, and one of whom is married to playwright Sharon Scott Williams. (You only get one guess which.)Sharon came home from school, at the age of eight, to find her mother wielding a knife, in a psychotic episode. The ensuing events led to extended hospitalization and a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. Her family's coping heroism inspired her, decades later, to write a memoir, which Sharon's husband, actor and director Anson Williams (Yes, you guess correctly), felt would make an astonishing one-woman stage show. With Linda Purl in the starring role (playing 16 different characters!) the stage play of 'Crazy Mama' gives audiences the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and it provides a conduit to conversations about mental illness, trauma and family dynamics. Sharon tells how the crafting of the play inspired the processing of her long buried, confusing emotional cocktail of fear, guilt, shame, and anger and with similar Virginia ancestral roots, Linda identified instantly with the work and the power of its messages.Plus, Sharon, Anson and Linda all claim Covid Love stories! Sharon, an Ojai, California Real Estate agent, had shown Anson a house a decade earlier. But, with both of them single, she received a text invitation from him for lunch! They spent the pandemic falling in love. Linda ran into an acquaintance with a very similar show-biz history, Patrick Duffy. Their mutual friend, Richard Thomas paved the way and their Zoom friendship blossomed into romance! Also, we are proud to present our all-new IMDB Roulette Sub Genre quiz sensation, Were You On It, featuring full disclosures about Anson and Linda's appearances on: Baywatch, The Waltons, The Secret Storm, Fantasy Island, Black Market Baby and I Married A Centerfold! In recommendations-- Weezy: Documentary Beatles 64 on Disney+Fritz: Documentary Becoming Katharine Graham on Amazon PrimePath Points of Interest:Crazy Mama at The Rubicon TheatreAnson Williams IMDBAnson Williams WikipediaAnson Williams on FacebookLinda Purl IMDBLinda Purl WikipediaLinda Purl on InstagramLinda Purl in "POSSIBILITIES - songs of HOPE, RISK and MAYBE" at Catalina Jazz Club in HollywoodBeatles 64 - Disney+Becoming Katharine Graham - Amazon Prime

This week I was so lucky to sit down with Scott Williams, Trinity alumnus '89, for the Living Leadership Interview segment. Scott and I met when I was 19 and was one of my early mentors at Trinity. Since that time, we've maintained a close relationship, which was heightened during his time serving on the Trinity University Alumni Association Board. Scott and I discuss the Situational Leadership model and his leadership philosophy and principles. He details important in and out-of-class mentors he had at Trinity and the value of meeting others where they are and seeing them for who they are. Scott describes why leaders must connect with individuals and why it would actually be unfair to treat everyone the same. He says that if you treat everyone with respect and build a foundation of trust, you can meet people where they are and bring out the best in them. This conversation about focusing equity, rather than equality, is important for us all to hear. Four years ago, Scott and I appeared on the Trinity University Podcast Network for a discussion on race, education, mentors, and modern-day athlete activism. I encourage you to give that conversation a listen as it is really different from this episode, but can provide you important context for what makes Scott tick. Reflections on Life, Trinity, and the American Dream (https://soundcloud.com/user-936731397/reflections-on-life-trinity-and-the-american-dream) The episode concludes with my lecture on chapter 5 of the 9th edition of Peter G. Northouse's "Leadership: Theory and Practice." During the segment, I provide an overview of Hersey and Blanchard's Situational Leadership Model, discuss details about the connection between a leader's style and the follower's developmental level, and why it's essential that leaders engage in conversations with their team members. Let me know your reactions to my chat with Scott. Reach out to both of us on Twitter (@TingleJK and @scottwilli75or LinkedIn and let's keep the conversation going

Focus on essential elements that can significantly impact the client experience, such as comfort and ease of use.If scaling up, ensure that the core values and unique selling points that made your brand successful are retained. Understanding yourself is crucial. Imagine a vinyl record spinning: the center spins slowly and steadily, while the outer edge moves quickly and erratically. Similarly, when you're at the core of your identity, you remain grounded, but when you're on the periphery, you can be easily tossed around. If you're starting something new, like a business, you need to have a strong sense of who you are. This self-awareness will become clear as you face countless decisions and uncertainties. To navigate this, you need a firm foundation to rely on.

In a Q&A with The Hollywood Reporter, Fargo and Mad Men star Jon Hamm proclaimed himself a “comic book nerd” and mentioned he is still in talks with both heads of Marvel and DC for roles as well as confirmed that he passed on The Green Lantern saying it was one he “definitely didn't want to do.” Hamm even indicated he has a role selected at Marvel, if the studio does the storyline…and they say they will. The second trailer for The Penguin, the Colin Farrell-led spinoff series of Matt Reeves' The Batman, was released. It highlights more characters who will appear and indicates the Falcones, Gotham's first family of crime, will be at the center of the story. The show also features Salvatore Maroni, played by Clancy Brown, and is led by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunner Lauren LeFranc. Pixar's Inside Out 2 has jetted past Dune Part 2 to take the crown for top box office take of the year so far. Arthouse film The Bikeriders was highly marketed, but opened at third place with $10 million, and Russell Crowe's horror flick The Exorcism didn't even scrape the bottom of the barrel at a $2.43 million opening. At this point Blade isn't in purgatory…it is officially in development hell. Between the writer's and actor's strikes, actors, writers, and directors being let go and leaving the project, it seems almost impossible that Mahershala Ali's Blade will ever see the light of day. But Hollywood Reporter claims both Ali and Marvel boss Kevin Feige seem like they don't want to drive a stake through the movie, regardless of the lengthy development timeline, obvious loss of money, revolving door of talent, complete changes to the story, and more. M3GAN, the hit horror movie from James Wan's Atomic Monster and Jason Blum's Blumhouse, is getting a spinoff titled SOULM8TE, a thriller that expands the M3GAN universe and is set for release on January 2, 2026. Donald Sutherland, the beloved actor who starred in scores of films such as The Dirty Dozen, MASH, Klute, Animal House, Ordinary People, Pride & Prejudice, and The Hunger Games franchise and won an Emmy for Citizen X, died last Thursday in Miami after a long illness. He was 88. HBO has officially greenlit the first show under DC Studios titled Lanterns. The series has been given an eight episode straight-to-series order by HBO with Chris Mundy serving as showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan Majors is set to star in the revenge thriller Merciless, which is based on an original screenplay by Frank Hannah. Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, will direct. The film will mark Majors' first role since his third degree assault and harassment conviction earlier this year. Paramount has released the first trailer for Smile 2, the follow up to Parker Finn's 2022 horror hit. The film debuts in theaters on October 18. DC Comics pulled all unpublished cover artwork by artist Francesco Mattina after Adi Granov and Scott Williams accused him of using AI in recently released cover artwork. Williams is the inking partner of publisher and CCO, Jim Lee at DC. A Spaceballs sequel is in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Josh Gad is set to star, and will produce alongside Mel Brooks. Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast of Dexter: Original Sin as a series regular. He is set to portray Aaron Spencer, the Captain of Miami Metro Homicide who has a decades-long relationship with Christian Slater's Harry Morgan. Sources tell Deadline that Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan are in negotiations to star in Season 2 of the Netflix and A24 anthology series Beef. The roles Isaac and Mulligan would be playing were rumored to be for Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, but that ultimately did not come to fruition. Apple Films has acquired the rights to The Wives, an original film produced by A24 and starring Jennifer Lawrence. The Wives is described as a murder mystery inspired by The Real Housewives franchise.
