In each episode of Everyday Thin Places, birth doula Elizabeth Varaso and interfaith hospice chaplain Rachael Gallagher draw from their experiences supporting birthing people and dying people to explore with honesty, authenticity and humor how we can all become more truly-living people. Although birth and death are two of the only truly universal human experiences, we often think of them as painful, frightening and best kept behind closed doors. But behind those closed doors Rachael and Elizabeth have experienced the wonder and delight of “thin places” - those points in space and time where the line between known and unknown, between temporal and eternal, between the ordinary and the transcendent become beautifully blurred. No matter if you are the kind of person who finds the topics of birth and death thrilling, terrifying or just not all that interesting Rachael and Elizabeth’s conversations with each other and with guests from all walks of life will draw you in and keep you coming back for more. No topic is off-limits and every episode will have you seeking and savoring the everyday opportunities to visit life’s thin places.

Listeners of Everyday Thin Places that love the show mention: rachael, elizabeth,The Everyday Thin Places podcast is an incredible and inspiring show that explores the beauty and depth of life's everyday experiences. Hosted by Rachael and Elizabeth, this podcast delves into the concept of thin places - those moments where the spiritual realm intersects with our physical world. With their great energy and engaging conversations, they make even the most abstract topics accessible and relatable.
One of the best aspects of The Everyday Thin Places podcast is its ability to evoke both depth and feeling in every episode. Rachael and Elizabeth have a knack for discussing profound ideas in a way that feels down-to-earth and inspiring. They bring personal anecdotes, heartfelt stories, and thought-provoking insights to each topic, creating a rich tapestry of wisdom and understanding. Whether they are talking about birth, death, or everyday struggles, their discussions are filled with empathy and genuine connection.
Another great aspect of this podcast is the hosts' chemistry and give-and-take. Rachael and Elizabeth complement each other perfectly, bouncing off each other's ideas with ease. Their camaraderie is infectious, making each episode feel like a conversation between friends. This dynamic adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the already insightful content.
As for the worst aspects of The Everyday Thin Places podcast, it's hard to find any significant flaws. However, one minor critique could be that some episodes may touch on religious themes that may not resonate with everyone. While Rachael assures listeners that she is open to learning about all faiths, it might be helpful for potential listeners to know this beforehand.
In conclusion, The Everyday Thin Places podcast is an amazing show that offers hope in our shared future as a global community. It dives deep into life's messiness and glory while remaining accessible and inspiring to everyone. Rachael and Elizabeth bring great energy to every episode, making it a joy to listen to their conversations unfold. If you're looking for a thought-provoking yet relatable podcast that explores the spiritual dimensions of everyday life, this is a must-listen.
In this inspiring and insight-packed episode, Rachael Gallagher and Elizabeth Varaso explore themes of creativity, family, disruptions, health, resetting, and slowing down with Pennsylvania-based entrepreneur, Rich Speeney. The conversation covers one of Rich's most challenging and surprising experiences of his life: mold exposure, which caused severe health challenges and led to starting over completely. Rich and his wife sold their house, got rid of all of their belongings, and moved in with Rich's parents. This experience has changed everything and has forced Rich to slow down to "Rich Speed".Rich delivers a transparent and inspiring look at accepting reality while clinging to hope - and how staying curious and community-focused keeps him believing in 100% recovery. This episode delivers clarity, honesty, and encouragement.ResourcesVisit the official Wednesday Night Pizza Club website.Be generous on behalf of Rich and support Charity Water.Hosts: Rachael Gallagher and Elizabeth VarasoGuest: Rich SpeeneyCONNECT WITH THE SHOW:Official WebsiteDonate

We first aired this episode 2 years ago when the Philadelphia Eagles were preparing to meet the Kansas City Chiefs at the Super Bowl. With a rematch scheduled this Sunday, we figured a replay of one of our favorite episodes was in order. From 2023 - Joining us for the first time is Erik Johanson, Philadelphia sports fanatic. In the last 5 months, Philly fans have gotten quite a bit of excitement with both the Phillies and the Eagles competing in championship games. We talk to Erik about how his love for Phladelphia and it's sports teams developed, and how it has become a thin place for him. And we explore one more important piece of Erik's story: his complicated relationship with his father and where Erik is left after his father's death last summer.
Rachael and Elizabeth discuss their *latest* update before diving into the timely topic of Imbolc. We talk about aligning our energy with the wheel of the year, how people have marked transitions through generations (think bonfires, planning for harvests, and slowly setting intentions), and Elizabeth shares a personal story about her sheep farm experience (spoiler alert: baby lambs can't control their bladders). And, of course, we get into some suggestions for listeners who want to mark Imbolc in their own lives!Tune in now to hear all this and more, and be sure to subscribe so you never miss an episode.Hosts: Rachael Gallagher and Elizabeth VarasoSuggest new guests/topics for the podcast at everydaythinplaces@gmail.comConnect with Rachael and Elizabeth:@everydaythinplacesEverydaythinplaces.com
Another October, another sad ending for Philadelphia Sports fans. BUT. We were given a sweet consolation on 10/18 when Netflix released a short documentary - "The Turnaround." This 25 minute film, produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, digs deeper into the story of the man who inspired the country's most notoriously brutal sports fans to pick someone up when they were down. Rachael & Elizabeth shared this story last October and think that you should both give this episode a re-listen, and check out The Turnaround on Netflix so that you can revel in and respond to the power of kindness and compassion.
We're releasing this magical episode again to remind our steady listeners and to engage our new listeners around the amazing songs and monologues we call Elderland. When this episode was initially published, things were looking good and we thought we were on our way to a 2023 presentation of Elderland, but we encountered so many obstacles along the way that a year has passed and it hasn't happened yet...but it WILL!Dan Martin and Michael Biello are committed to creating something beautiful to share with the world but we need your help!
