Have you ever stayed committed to something long after it stopped feeling right—simply because you'd already told people, invested time, or made it part of your identity? In this episode of Empowering Her, I'm exploring a topic that doesn't get nearly enough attention: the power of changing your mind. Many of us have been taught that consistency is the ultimate virtue. We wear it like a badge of honor. But what if staying the same isn't always the goal? What if growth requires us to reevaluate, pivot, and choose again?Changing your mind isn't a sign of weakness. It isn't flaky. And it certainly doesn't mean you've failed. Often, it's evidence that you've learned something new, gained wisdom, and become more aligned with who you truly are.In this conversation, we'll explore why so many women stay stuck in decisions they've outgrown, how fear of judgment keeps us tethered to old versions of ourselves, and why giving yourself permission to evolve may be one of the most empowering things you ever do.In this episode, you'll discover:• Why outgrowing old decisions is a natural part of personal growth• The difference between integrity and staying committed for the sake of appearances• How fear of disappointing others can keep you trapped• Why changing your mind often creates the space for your next chapter• How to release guilt around choosing a new path• The freedom that comes from trusting yourself enough to pivotIf you've been feeling the pull toward something new but have been afraid to change direction, this episode is your reminder that growth isn't about staying the same. It's about becoming more fully yourself.Because sometimes the most powerful words you can say are:“That was right for me then. This is right for me now.”Want to start your own girls empowerment movement? Can you truly break through your own limitations and achieve what seems impossible? Today, I sit down with my friend Nir Eyal, the author of three bestselling books, including his latest, *Beyond Belief*, which just hit the New York Times bestseller list. Nir recently blew my mind when he told me he doesn't "believe in jet lag" after flying from Europe to Asia, and that was just the appetizer for our conversation. In his typical science-backed style, Nir reveals the surprising research behind why some people persist where others quit, and how our beliefs—not always our circumstances—are often the key to unlocking our full potential. He shares practical, data-driven strategies I'm already applying in my own life and creative work, and I think you will too.Timestamps:00:00 Introduction01:26 Belief and Placebos05:25 Why Placebo Effect is Getting Stronger06:59 When Pain is Not Suffering10:10 Hypnosedation and Unlocking Potential15:35 Applying Beliefs to Creative Process19:10 Chasing Happiness vs. Decreasing Suffering21:47 Why Positive Thinking Can Be Harmful26:34 Applying Belief-Shifting to Relationships31:03 Changing Your Mind and Beliefs35:35 Belief Problems, Not People Problems37:25 High Expectations, Low Control Leads to Burnout40:03 Internal vs. External Locus of Control44:27 The Rat Experiment and Persistence47:47 What's Next for Nir EyalIf you enjoyed this episode, please like and subscribe, share it with your friends, and leave a review. I share a powerful conversation with Charles McCaughan centered around the art of changing your mind — why it feels so difficult, why we cling to beliefs even when they hurt us, and how much of our identity is shaped by conditioning, fear, and unconscious programming.Charles explores how thoughts are often mistaken for facts, why society places such a high value on “being right,” and how personal inquiry can become a path toward healing, growth, and greater self-awareness rather than punishment. Together, we discuss insecurity, ego, consciousness, emotional conditioning, therapy, and the surprising freedom that can come from honestly questioning long-held assumptions. This conversation touches on psychology, healing, emotional growth, self-awareness, and what it truly means to look inward honestly.Charles McCaughan specializes in muscle testing (applied kinesiology) and subconscious healing techniques designed to help uncover emotional stressors, limiting beliefs, and energetic imbalances held within the body. In this episode Henry and Shireal dive into “phase two” of their 12‑year marriage, confronting how change, identity, and personal evolution reshape a long‑term relationship. Shireal reflects on losing pieces of herself in the roles of wife and mother, now reclaiming confidence and independence while Henry faces deep shame and self‑reflection, questioning how his actions nearly broke their bond. They both describe how marriage requires constant growth, transparency, and consideration, even when change hurts. This episode is raw, honest, and revealing
Why is it so hard to change? We change our clothes, schedules, plans, and opinions all the time… but changing the way we think, believe, and live can feel almost impossible. In Romans 12:1–2, the Apostle Paul shows us that real life change doesn't start with behavior modification—it starts with transformation from the inside out.
Is it possible to personally alter the physical structure of your brain? Today's episode of ID The Future comes to us from our sister podcast Mind Matters News. Host Dr. Michael Egnor sits down with fellow neurosurgeon and author Dr. Lee Warren to discuss his book The Life-Changing Art of Self-Brain Surgery. Dr. Warren shares how his medical training and Christian faith collided after the tragic loss of his son. The experience helped him realize that the mind is more than just brain activity. Dr. Warren unpacks the main thrust of his book, describing self-brain surgery as the intentional practice of choosing different thoughts to physically change the brain's structure and improve overall health. Dr. Warren has observed the effects of such self-driven change in real-time brain scans, which deliver positive results like reducing the body's stress response and promoting healing. Source

Politics used to feel like opinions. Now it can feel like a full-body threat and if you question the script, you risk getting exiled. We sit down with Anthony Rispo, who studied psychology, neuroscience, and political behavior at Columbia University. An expert in how we measure human cognition, emotion, and behavior. We talk about what happens when you leave a political side, stop fitting neatly into a label, and realize you're politically homeless in a culture that demands total certainty. We go deep into the psychology behind the temperature of the country right now. Binary thinking, hostile attribution bias, cognitive dissonance, and why social media turns disagreement into dehumanization. Anthony shares how old wounds and identity-based hypervigilance can shape how we read the world, and how 2020 pushed many people into anger that didn't match who they wanted to be. We also talk about maturity as emotional regulation, why parenthood and responsibility narrow your priorities, and what it looks like to protect your home (and heart) by logging off. From there, we unpack big ideas with real-world stakes: critical theory in higher education, the Overton window shifting under our feet, and how 'sacred values' plus identity fusion can make people feel justified in bullying a small business or screaming labels at someone instead of having a conversation. We also wrestle with the uncomfortable tradeoffs people avoid when they only see victims and villains. If you're craving nuance, intellectual humility, and a way to think for yourself again, hit play. We're back with another episode of Why Are We Still Doing That? This week, we're tackling the topic of quitting's close cousin: Changing Your Mind.If quitting makes people squirm, changing your mind about a decision seems to send the whole system into a meltdown. We've been trained to treat our decisions as final, even when new, credible information shows up. We're conditioned to think that being "belligerently resolute" is a virtue, but that is simply choosing to not grow. Here's the truth: Changing your mind isn't confusion, it's clarity. It's a smart, fluid move that shows you are paying attention. Real progress comes from being open to new information, not from sticking to a fixed stance. In this episode, we dismantle the culture that fears the "flip-flopper" label and make the case for mindful, informed evolution. You'll hear:Why changing your mind about a decision isn't confusion, it's clarity… And one of the smartest moves you can make.Kent's "mind share" on having an attitude of gratitude for being able to help people, and Caanan's thoughts on end-of-year "best of" lists. How the fear of being called a "flip-flopper" (especially in politics) teaches us that we aren't allowed to evolve, which discourages personal growth. The crucial difference between being flaky and mindfully changing your mind when new information shows up.Why being "belligerently resolute" is not a virtue but is, in fact, an inability to grow. The crucial value of perspective and why an inability to take in new information in any area of your life stops growth. How to apply this fluidity to big life decisions, like a new career track or a move, to avoid a larger long-term disaster. Our recommendation for the psychological thriller After the Hunt, and how it forces you to consider a character's "myriad perspectives".If you're holding onto a decision or path simply because you think you're "locked in," this episode is for you. We're giving you permission to embrace the clarity that comes from changing your mind.Onward and Inward,Caanan and Kent
This episode is a deep dive into the fascinating, often misunderstood world of light, and how profoundly it shapes our biology, energy, and overall health. I reconnect with Matt Maruca, founder and CEO of Ra Optics, to trace the unlikely origin story of his work and explore how his thinking around light, sunglasses, and circadian biology has evolved over the years. We unpack why not all blue light is created equal, how modern artificial lighting disrupts hormones and stress responses, and why context, timing, and spectrum matter far more than simplistic “good vs. bad” narratives. Matt breaks down the difference between damaging short-wavelength blue light and the beneficial blue light that helps regulate circadian rhythms, while explaining why even helpful light can become harmful when it's out of balance or stripped of near-infrared wavelengths. We also explore how artificial environments like offices, big-box stores, cities, and screens create chronic stress at a cellular level, and why near-infrared light is essential for mitochondrial function, structured water in the body, and resilience against oxidative damage. Matt shares how his own relationship with sunlight has shifted away from extremes toward a more nuanced, biologically intelligent approach. From forest canopies and chlorophyll to sunglasses, sunrise exposure, and next-generation lens technology, this conversation reframes how we think about light exposure in the modern world. If you want a more grounded, practical understanding of how to protect your eyes, support your nervous system, and work with your biology instead of against it, this episode delivers.DISCLAIMER: This podcast is for educational purposes only and not intended for diagnosing or treating illnesses. A Note from James:We kept recording because the conversation wasn't done. Part 1 was about writing and honesty. Part 2? It's about consequences—what happens when people believe their own hype, when we confuse being loud with being right, and when storytelling gets weaponized. Ryan Holiday has written about ego, stillness, and obstacles. But this part of the conversation gets at something deeper: what happens when power and narrative collide. And how do we live with integrity when the tools we use to create can just as easily be used to manipulate?Episode Description:In Part 2 of their conversation, James Altucher and Ryan Holiday explore the darker side of influence—how public figures lose their grounding, how movements become cults, and how audience validation can steer creators away from their original purpose. They discuss RFK Jr., Jordan Peterson, and Tucker Carlson—not as political figures, but as case studies in how public personas evolve under the pressure of attention. Along the way, they wrestle with their own roles as communicators: when to speak, when to hold back, and what it really means to be useful in a world full of noise. What You'll Learn:Why creators are vulnerable to audience captureThe line between healthy skepticism and conspiracy thinkingWhat separates honesty from manipulation in public discourseWhy power often comes at the expense of self-awarenessHow James and Ryan each wrestle with responsibility as public thinkersTimestamped Chapters:[00:00] Continuation from Part 1[01:00] How Personas Get Distorted Over Time[02:00] The RFK Jr. Conundrum[04:00] Audience Capture and Dopamine Loops[06:00] When Truth Becomes Optional[08:00] Jordan Peterson and the Burden of Symbolism[10:00] Platform Power vs. Message Integrity[11:00] What Happens When You Start Believing Your Own Brand[12:00] The "Edge" as a Career Strategy[13:00] The Slippery Slope from Insight to Grift[15:00] Building a Philosophy Business[16:00] How Stoicism Can Be Used or Abused[17:00] Tucker Carlson, Outrage, and Narrative Control[19:00] Being Useful vs. Being Loud[21:00] When You're More Known Than You Are Understood[23:00] The Fear of Changing Your Mind[24:00] When Silence is the Most Ethical Choice[25:00] Creating in Public Without Losing Yourself[27:00] The Most Powerful Words: “I Don't Know”Additional Resources:Ryan Holiday's website: ryanholiday.netEgo Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday: AmazonJames Altucher on Twitter: @jaltucherThe Daily Stoic podcast: Daily StoicSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What if the way we think about money is actually stealing our peace? In Part 2 of the series, "Keep the Change", we explore Jesus' radical invitation to flip the script on how we handle our finances. It's not about guilt, it's about trust, freedom, and living with purpose. Whether you're stressed, stuck, or just searching for a better way, this message could change your future. We all have it, we all think about it, and (if we're honest) we all probably want more of it—money, that is. But what does God have to say about money and its role in our lives? What if the things we fear He asks us to do are actually the very things that lead us to the peace we desire?

His portfolio of companies employs over 325 people living all over the world. Nick lives with his wife and 3 children in Athens, Georgia. He's the author of the book, The Sweaty Startup: How to get rich doing boring things. Notes: Sales is the foundation of Every Business. From Nick's mentor, Dan Cohen: “If you don't like sales, I suggest you give up now and go get a regular job. You're wasting your time.” “Life as an entrepreneur is sales.” To succeed in this world, you must have the cooperation of other people. The attributes of winners: Abundance mindset A sense of urgency Not afraid to stand up and call you out. The story of his VP of Finance, Kevin. He called Nick out on deals he tried to make while Kevin was on vacation. Make good decisions Aren't afraid to get their hands dirty and do the work The Four Fundamental Truths of Life 1. You can't do it alone. 2. You can't make people do anything. 3. Everyone in this world is selfish. 4. It isn't about you. So how do we use these four fundamental truths of life to get what we want? Sales. We sell ourselves and our ideas. We convince other people that their lives will be better if they trust us, work for us, buy from us, and more. Networking. Don't go to events telling others to help you. Become someone worth knowing. Do something of value that makes others want to come to you… The story about the guy wrangling carts on a cold night at the Walmart in Ithaca, New York Nick credits a lot of his success to his parents, Tim and Susan, for raising him around a dinner table of positivity and curiosity. They made him feel as if he could accomplish anything and taught him to see the world through a lens of opportunity. Change your mind: Nick has a note taped to his mirror in the bathroom that says, “Change your mind on something today.” The most valuable trait of an entrepreneur: A sense of urgency. Most people walk slow, think slow, move slow, and make decisions slow. They lollygag around life. No energy. No excitement. Do uncomfortable things. Make the calls. Start a lawn care business if you're a kid. Decision making - You have to practice it. It's a muscle Decathlon at Cornell - Brutally hard. 10 events. You never do your best in all of them. You take L's. Have to respond and go to the next event. Struggle with grace. Ego - Need to balance belief with humility. There are two types of people in the world. Those who are humble. And those that are about to be humbled. “You're interviewing for your next job every single day.” Hiring is like hunting. Always looking. Life/Career Advice: "Don't be a doctor or a lawyer. What game are you playing? What does winning look like? Most people aren't thoughtful enough about that."
The problem with being human is that we believe our version of truth is the truth. Not because we're bad—but because we're wired that way. This episode is a story of blindness. Not the kind you see—but the kind you don't even know you have. You're not as open-minded as you think. That's not an insult—it's just how the brain works. We shortcut. We judge. We protect our ego like it's a vintage vinyl. In this episode, I dive into the strange ways our own minds trick us into thinking we're rational, original, and morally superior. I walk through how prejudice isn't just about race—it's about music, anger, taste, careers, and even your opinion of running. You'll hear about blind spots in your day-to-day that quietly shape your reality, and how to start noticing them before they run the show. Takeaways: Why your opinions probably aren't your own Why improving your taste is more important than finding your passion A simple trick to challenge your ego without bruising it You can't change the world if you can't first question the lens you're using to see it. This episode won't change your mind—you will. “A big part of the problem with society is that, instead of fixing our problems, everyone is trying to make enough money so that the problems won't affect them.” This quote was a gut punch to me and I had a realization about society that I wanted to talk about in this episode. While the notion of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps sounds good in theory, it simply isn't an option for some and where you start and your access to resources matter. As the Biden Administration winds down, pressure is being applied to the President, asking him to order the National Archivist to certify the Equal Rights Amendment as part of the Constitution. Senator Gillebrand has submitted a letter, co-signed by more than 40 Senators, making arguments that harken back to the resolution that accompanied the 1972 amendment, when Congress purported to place a time limit on the amendment's ratification. Also, some state legislatures withdrew their ratification after initially approving it, and the Senators are crying foul on this. We take a deep dive into the arguments put forth by the amendment's implementation advocates, the history of other amendments that faced analogous issues, including the great 14th amendment, and Professor Amar's own scholarship on the matters. Meanwhile, our 4th anniversary is approaching, and we preview the gala event - with Justice Breyer getting behind the microphone with us before you know it!
