Originally envisioned as a Mega Man-branded conversational platform, Jump & Shoot is now a gaming podcast with a focus on JRPGs, action-platformers, games of the 16-bit era, and any other passing topic that piques the interest of host Joey Agliata. Other auxiliary topics include beginner's primers on series, nostalgic recollections, critical analyses, reviews, and previews. Jump & Shoot hopes to appeal to causal, midcore, and hardcore audiences—while always harboring a stark adversity to the implications of the word "gamer." Jump & Shoot is presented in two forms: 1.) “Regular,” produced episodes that follow the general flow of any other gaming podcast, and 2.) Live-streamed, audio-on-demand episodes that follow a loose topic and are more like average discussions—these are branded as the “Sidequests” series.

A not-so-lolrandom, nitty-gritty discussion on whether or not random encounters in JRPGs are representative of the genre. What are some unique gameplay dynamics they present? Frustrations? Do they make dungeons and traversal more interesting? This free-form episode puts a net under a wide range of topics about the mechanic as it applies to JRPGs past and present. Like always, no episode would be complete without airing of grievances about FFXV, so we're glad to oblige here as well! [Sincere apologies for the major audio level issues in the first part of the episode; I was trying out a new device. Audio does clear up around the 4:00 mark if you'd like to skip to that point] Boki and Joie discuss the finer aspects of gameplay: What makes gameplay “good” as opposed to addicting? Do our gaming expectations influence how we perceive the quality of gameplay? Do we adjust our wants and priorities for good gameplay as we age? Sometimes psychological analysis, sometimes Returnal fan gushing, this episode was a deeply personal and introspective look at how the life experiences of two very-concerned-with-gameplay folks synthesize into gaming preferences. *This episode is relatively spoiler-free, although there are general references to plot and pacing elements throughout the series* Streamer and RPG veteran Orpheus Joshua accepts the long-winded sidequest of “what do we want to see in the Trails games moving forward?” To broach this subject, a discussion needed to be had about the past games, innovations of the battle system, harems, number of characters, quality of writing, and a brief section on worldbuilding. How will Falcom move the series onward from the still-yet-to-be-released-in-the-west Hajimari no Kiseki? What does “more real-time action” mean for the battle system? Will there be 42069 characters in Kuro no Kiseki and the future arcs? We try to hash that out! * Please note that the “Sidequests” series of episodes are freeform, live-streamed, discussion-based episodes—the audio fidelity of which may be more “rough” and noisy than the mainline J&S episodes Orpheus Joshua's Links: News Writer/ Reviewer: http://noisypixel.net News Team: http://kh13.com Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/orpheusjoshua YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpcWqahTFGCRars8Nfbtrsw Twitter: https://twitter.com/OrpheusJoshua Jump and Shoot Links: Twitter:https://twitter.com/PodcastJump Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/jump-shoot-528803988 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2SD0Wd0o9yDCbSHsD7ACug?si=PGwOydi-R_-PUfYGyjv2Ig http://www.digitalemelas.com/index.php Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/joiejumpandshoot

Normally this is a Mega Man podcast, but as promised, this is an episode devoted to a general, non-exhaustive exploration of Moon Knight! I just got back into reading comics after many years, and my first foray back into the world of Marvel was a complete journey into the stories of the Crescent Crusader—which I just finished reading through a few days ago. The first part of the episode [3:20 - 20:18] handles the much-asked question of “just where do I start with Moon Knight?” I provide a few recommendations for beginners and outline which trade paperbacks or digital sources are best for the Moon Knight journey. Rankings, too [20:18]! For the more weathered fans—and even for the new ones who may be curious—I also decided to rank my favorite Moon Knight runs (which I've also typed out here if you want episode spoilers, which I've accompanied with some fairly brief sentiments about each volume. I plan to do individual, more in-depth episodes about each of these aforementioned runs, so please stay tuned! Joey and Kelly team up to briefly touch upon a subject that's been setting the forums ablaze: The "censorship" surrounding Siren and Rinoa's updated designs. Are bathing suits just artificial pubic hair? Is Shiva naked on purpose? Are these just design choices or is there an agenda? Find out the answers to these questions and more as we inevitably get more downvotes on this episode than anything else in our history!
There has been some downtime as of late, so Joey has decided to do a small series of solo podcasts about a broad range of topics. This is both an attempt to stay busy and an attempt to put out at least some form of weekly content! In this first episode, Joey talks about his history with comics, why it took 30 years to finally make the dive into reading them regularly, a bit about Moon Knight, reading accessibility for the legally blind or those with low vision, and why it's important to footnote every conversation about Cable with "we have it!"
From the Ruins of Moondoria to the Solomon Shrine, we're covering all aspects of Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished — The Final Chapter today! Once again we're joined by AboveUp of YouTube acclaim. In this episode we're talking mechanics, version differences, gameplay analysis, overall game balance, and a brief foreshadowing of the trajectory that the series would take from here on out. Also, listen to Joey forget the word “diagonal” and suffer for it. Come get lost in the labyrinthine Ys 2 dungeons with us! Episode I - Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished Welcome to the first episode of our new podcast “season”: a comprehensive journey into the entirety of the Ys series! We're joined by AboveUp of YouTube acclaim for this first episode, and we're devoting it exclusively to the first game in the series, Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished. This is a fairly exhaustive deep-dive into some early Falcom and Ys series history, where to get started with the series, dat bump system, the many different versions Ys I, and critical analysis of the game's mechanics and features. (Please note that there are a myriad of versions of Ys I, and although we would've liked to cover each one in great detail, it would have been an exhaustive project that may be better suited for a different format—so apologies should be given to those we glossed over.) Despite its somewhat recent critical acclaim in the west, Ys is a series that we believe has not quite gained the traction it deserves outside of Japan, so this project hopes to provide some exposure for Adol and his many journeys. Additionally, we want to really bring critical analysis to the foreground for the 11 main titles we'll be covering in an effort to clearly articulate the magic of the series. The ride through the Ys games is going to be a wild—and sometimes bumpy—one, so we really hope you stick around for the whole adventure! Oh boy, are you in for a wild ride of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater jokes, Castlevania puns, nods to Hemingway (not to be confused with Valmanway), and a deep-dive into Castlevania Requiem—as well as its packaged titles, Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night. We're mostly positive for a change, seeing as how the majority of our negative vibes are directed at Konami and the somewhat lackluster presentation of the title. Big surprise. This may be our funnest episode yet. It's a horrible night to have a curse, so suit up and get whipped!
In the first episode of our open-ended, general video game podcast series, we're talking about controllers: the good, the bad, the Nokia N-Gage. We discuss what our favorite controls and control methods are, talk about additional features, and each throw in a vote for "best controller ever." After all, it's the tools that make the trade!
We follow the breadcrumb trail of Mega Man 11 topics from our last episode and review: DLC, potential spin-offs, the future of the Mega Man IP, brand awareness, story threads, and also break some sad news about Fully Charged. The second half of the episode has us chatting about potentialities for Mega Man 12 and what we want to see while we come down from our 11 high and after Capcom has shown us that the Lil Blue Boi still has relevance in 2018. There's a meme about Rip Torn's Robot Masters, Joey takes another opportunity to slam a few game journalists, and Wesley proves he can recite any video game title—no matter how nonsensical or bombastic.
The 8-years-overdue Mega Man 11 is out, and the dudes FINALLY get a chance to get together and break this bad boy down. We cover presentation, balance, music, our initial expectations versus reality, disruptive innovation (or lack thereof) in the contemporary Mega Man games, Dr. Wily's incognito tabs, and dive deeply into level and boss design. Absent is the talk of Proto Man and Bass—but that's only to underscore their absence in the game. And let's not forget the give that keeps on giving long after time has turned us to dust: Dr. Light's Abusive Trial. Joey's Score: 7.8/10 Sable's Score: 8.5/10 Wesley's Score: Equal to MM6
We're coming even closer to Mega Man 11 and we're talking with Hero_Azure of the ShadowRockZX YouTube channel. Azure is a content contributor and MVC3 player, and unlike the rest of our interviewees, he has purposely kept himself in the dark about MM11! We talk about what going into a new game blind is like, the X series, Vile, and Maverick Hunter X. What's his favorite Mega Man game? Guess you'll have to listen to find out! On today's Plug Ball we're talking with MegaPhilX, the creator of the beloved Mega Man Unlimited and a member of Snupster, a series of multiplayer Mega Man races! Phil tells us a bit about what his favorite title in the series is before giving some insight on what he wants Mega Man 11 to be. The hype for 11 is unreal at this point! Hey, guess who's joining us on this one? ShadowRockZX—and he's here to deliver some much-needed Mega Man 5 love! Just before MM11 we manage to break down every mainline numbered classic Mega Man game! This is a herculean endeavor, so we had to do it in two parts. This second installment covers 7-10! No Mega Man and Bass. Luckily.
We're talking with Kevin of The Mega Man Cave YouTube channel today! We had a blast talking with him and making Hard Man jokes. He's got our favorite video list of Mega Man tracks as well as some fun Let's Plays and interviews, so check him out! Today we're speaking to David Oxford aka LBD_Nytetrayn aka The Mega Man Network aka one half of the Fully Charged Podcast! The man clearly wears many hats well, but luckily none of them are as jarring as a mettaur helmet. It was a pleasure to talk to David and hear this thoughts on the forthcoming Mega Man 11! Just before MM11 we manage to break down every mainline numbered classic Mega Man game! This is a herculean endeavor, so this first part is only going to cover the games included in the first Legacy Collection: MM1-MM6! The forthcoming part 2 will cover 7-10.
We finally got our hands on the demo and have beat the ever-living crap out of Block Man too many times to count. We discuss the gameplay, design, and many other aspects of the demo as well as our early impressions of the game. We talk about our expectations for the game and analyze the depth of the mechanics and future potential. Also, there's a quip about Roll's nipples, so there's that at least.
David Bowie, Ride Boarski, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Tokuro Fujiwara: In this episode we're diving really deeply into the X series again—but this time we're organizing our thoughts and providing our own personal rankings of each title in the series. We finally get to flush out most of our X5-7 frustrations, although we did try to keep things relatively objective—until Joey's minutes-long rant about X5.
(Warning: Explicit language) Welcome to the Ukrainian convenience store! In this episode, we take a trip down memory lane and discuss what led us to become fans of the Mega Man franchise, as well as our first experiences with it.
