On this last show, Holcomb and Pelc share their thoughts on Brad Ausmus sticking around for the 2016 season. As one can imagine, the move didn't make either host very happy. In the second segment, "Tiger Talk" welcomes back MCB Staff Writer Steve Mitzel. The hosts ask Mitzel's reaction to the news about Ausmus and also discuss the latest debacle going on in Washington. On Sunday, relief pitcher Jonathan Papelbon and right fielder Bryce Harper got into a little boxing bout. Well, actually Papelbon grabbed Harper by the neck. It was so much more interesting than the shoving match Jose Iglesias and James McCann were in a month or so ago. Finally, to wrap up the first season of "Tiger Talk", Holcomb and Pelc share their postseason predictions. According to our hosts, the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays are clearly the top two teams in the American League, but neither one can figure out the crowded National League Central.

Once again, Motor City Bengals would like to thank Mizuno for sponsoring the signed V-Mart ball and making the segment with Butts possible.Speaking of V-Mart, in the second part of the show, the two hosts debate his remarks regarding the boos the Tigers have heard over the last year at Comerica Park going all the way back to last season's American League Division Series. Justin Verlander also shared his opinion on the latest boos heard over the weekend. Pelc and Holcomb express their differenting views on the idea of fans booing the home team. Finally in the 'Around the League' segment, Holcomb lists three statements regarding teams still left in the playoff hunt, and the two hosts either buy or sell those statements. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with host Dave Holcomb and guest host Steve Mitzel.Despite falling five games below .500, there are some positive takeaways from the last week of Detroit Tigers baseball. For one, first baseman Miguel Cabrera is back on the field. Two, Justin Verlander has returned to form, posting a 1.75 ERA in his last five starts. MCB Staff Writer Tom Zahari started the conversation about why he has continued to watch the Detroit Tigers despite the team falling five games below .500 in his column "Are You Entertained" on Monday morning. Besides Cabrera and Verlander, Mitzel and Holcomb give their other reasons for continuing to follow the Tigers down the stretch. In the second segment, the show moves the conversation to the American League Wild Card race. The Tigers are five games back but as mentioned before, also five games below .500. Do they still have a realistic shot of making the playoffs? If they do, so do the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays. Not to mention, the Los Angeles of Anaheim, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays are the three leading candidates for the two Wild Card spots. Holcomb and Mitzel try to make sense of the AL Wild Card race. They also provide their picks for MVP in each league. What is so interesting about the tight races, though, is which teams make the playoffs could have a say on who ends up with the MVP trophies. Does the league MVP have to come from a playoff team? Find out what our hosts think in the second segment. To wrap up the show, Mitzel and Holcomb share their thoughts on a proposed change to the current playoff system in baseball. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. In this episode, the two hosts debate professionalism versus unprofessionalism.Detroit Tigers owner Mitch Ilitch fired General Manager Dave Dombrowski last week just days after the trade deadline. The news broke on Tuesday, but stranglely, Ilitch told his Assistant General Manager Al Avila on Saturday that he would be replacing Dombrowski. Meanwhile, Dombrowski found out just before the rest of us did on Tuesday. There are reports that Dombrowski was unprofessional during trade talks with the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Tiger Talk hosts don't buy that. Pelc and Holcomb both argue that it was actually Ilitch that should receive a lesson in professionalism.Speaking of unprofessionalism, Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias appeared to take a play or two off in the field on Friday, and catcher James McCann didn't take too kindly to that. The two exchanged words in the dugout during Friday's game before Iglesias shoved McCann. The catcher walked away, but Iglesias continued to try and go after McCann, but third baseman Nick Castellanos held Iglesias back to prevent any further altercations. Pelc and Holcomb share their thoughts on several angles regarding the "Friday Night Fight", particuarly how manager Brad Ausmus handled the situation. Finally, the two hosts talk about the "Sweep Weekend" in Major League Baseball. The Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates each had sweeps over playoff teams. Additionally, the New York Mets are playing extremely well too. Although the outfielder has said on numerous occassions in the last month that he wants to stay in the "Motor City", he declided to comment on whether he plans to return after he was traded. It took Dombrowski a long time to decide whether they wanted or not to buy or sell the last week of July, but perhaps in the future, Dombrowski could have even more time. In the second segment, Pelc and Holcomb discuss the pros and cons of pushing back the trade deadline to the middle of maybe even late August. To wrap up, the two hosts take a broader look at the trade deadline as a whole and share their biggest and most impactful moves from last week. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, it's more of the same for the struggling Detroit Tigers, who have fallen three games below .500 with their latest loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. The pitching has obviously been a problem, but Pelc and Holcomb share their displeasure with the offense, which has failed to score more than two runs in four of the last five games. And speaking of pitching problems, right-hander Shane Greene is moving to the bullpen in favor of Buck Farmer. Tigers fans should not expect much from Farmer, who has posted an ERA above 9.00 in three appearances this season, but Greene has been so bad, something had to be done.In the second segment, the hosts express their final decision on whether the Detroit Tigers should buy or sell before the trade deadline on Friday. As painful as it may be in the short-term, both Holcomb and Pelc believe it is in the team's best interest to give up on this season and look towards building for the future. Finally, in the "Around the League" segment, the hosts talk about Johnny Cueto to Kansas City, Tyler Clippard to New York, the Hall of Fame Class and some head scratching statements coming from former ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd. All that and more on "Tiger Talk".

Regular host Matt Pelc was attending to a family matter this week and hopes to return in the next show. The inconsistency of the Detroit Tigers play has been well documented on "Tiger Talk", but there probably hasn't been a great example of it than the past few days. On Monday, second baseman Ian Kinsler hit two home runs with the second coming in the eighth inning to give Detroit a, 5-4, comeback victory. Metaphorically, that game was a peak for Detroit, but the valley was the day before when right-hander Justin Verlander allowed seven runs and didn't make it out of the fourth inning on Sunday. Holcomb and Mitzel breakdown the Tigers emotional roller coaster in the first segment. In the second segment, Mitzel shares his opinions on the All-Star Break, including the Home Run Derby setup and new format. He also expresses his displeasure of J.D. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, Pelc and Holcomb share their displeasure with the horrible week from the Detroit Tigers. Even though they took two of three from the Toronto Blue Jays over the holiday weekend and then rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners in the first game of the series out west, the sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Justin Verlander's seven earned runs from Sunday left a bad taste in Tigers fans mouths. The most frustrating part of Verlander's start is he does seem to have decent stuff, but he remains stubborn and relies too heavily on his fastball. It burned him for six runs in the fifth inning against the Blue Jays. The worst part of the Tigers week, however, was the fact they lost first baseman Miguel Cabrera to a Grade 3 calf strain. At the very least, Cabrera will be sidelined for six weeks, so the two hosts explain how this injury will effect the Tigers approach at the trade deadline. Does this automatically make Detroit sellers at the deadline? In the second segment, the two hosts review the changes in the bullpen and preview the week ahead in Seattle and Minnesota. Relievers Joba Chamberlain and Tom Gorzelanny were both designated for assignment, which means it could be music chairs in the bullpen unless general manager Dave Dombroski makes a move. Holcomb would like to see a trade for a few relief pitchers, but he argues why it shouldn't be for another closer. Finally, in the third segment, the two hosts review the All-Star voting final results and share their thoughts on each starting lineup. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, Pelc and Holcomb discuss the month of June for the Detroit Tigers, who are 11-8 with just Tuesday's game remaining. Detroit has continued to play well  against AL Central opponents but still find themselves behind the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins in the division race. The good news is the offense is now awake. Miguel Cabrera hit .388 in June, and Yoenis Cespedes was also over .300. Victor Martinez is back and had a key hit in the, 5-4, comeback victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. V-Mart seems to be the offensive cataylst this team needs. Additionally, J.D. Martinez hit 10 bombs in the month of June.It is key for all these players to continue to hit in this next part of the schedule. Tigers fans probably assume the team will be buyers at the deadline, but honestly, the team hasn't proven they are a true contender. Another prolonged losing streak could force the Tigers to sell and change the course of the entire franchise. The next important juncture starts with the series versus the Pirates on Tuesday. Pittsburgh will throw its best three starting pitchers in the series, but luckily, Justin Verlander will be ready to square off against Gerrit Cole on Tuesday, and the Tigers have the advantage of the designated hitter. Next, the Tigers will have to cool off the hot bats of the Toronto Blue Jays over the fourth of July weekend. Pelc and Holcomb provide their thoughts on the Pirates and Blue Jays upcoming series. Finally, in the 'Around the League' segment, the two hosts return to an earlier topic they discussed back in March. Outside the Lines reported finding a notebook containing evidence that Pete Rose bet on baseball while still playing. Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, Pelc and Holcomb discuss the strong play the Tigers have displayed within their division and in particular, versus the Cleveland Indians. After Monday's, 8-5, victory, the Tigers are 8-2 against the Indians this season.Unfortunately, that still didn't stop the Tigers from losing two of three to the Cincinnati Reds and two of three to the New York Yankees last week. At two players part of the problem is third baseman NIck Castellanos and starter Justin Verlander. Castellanos has an OPS below .600 this season, so the hosts debate the possibility of him working on his swing in Triple-A. Meanwhile, Verlander's second outing of the season on Friday was quite disappointing. The two hosts discuss that and complain about the fact he threw 117 pitches in the start. It wasn't all bad last week, though, as designated hitter Victor Martinez returned on Friday and went 3-for-6 on Sunday with a home run. His bomb was one of five the Tigers had on Father's Day with three of the other four coming from J.D. Martinez. J.D. now has 16 on the season, which made him an All-Star starter on Holcomb's ballot. Pelc, however, voted for a different Tigers outfielder. The two hosts share their All-Star American League ballots in the second segment. And to end the show, Pelc and Holcomb discuss ex-Tiger Max Scherzer's current historic run. Scherzer has pitched back-to-back complete games and has allowed just one hit in those 18 innings. On Saturday, he was one out from a perfect game before a hit-by-pitch spoiled it. Incredibly, Scherzer still recorded a no-hitter, but the two hosts share their thoughts on the "unwritten rules" of baseball and the controversy that surrounded Scherzer's near perfect game. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. In the last nine days, the Detroit Tigers have scored two runs or fewer in five games and scored more than five runs in three other games. It is inconsistent at best, but Ian Kinsler and Yoenis Cespedes have been consistently struggling the last week. The two hosts dive a little bit deeper into Kinsler's recent slump and discuss one very unusual stat line in his splits. As for the mound, starter Anibal Sanchez has been the model of inconsistent and recently has been flat out bad. He has allowed seven runs in each of his last two starts, coughing up a four-run lead on Sunday. But, should he have even been in the game when he yielded the game-tying home run to pinch hitter Preston Tucker? Holcomb and Mitzel share their thoughts on manager Brad Ausmus' decision to leave Sanchez in the game after 111 pitches.Unfortunately for the Tigers, not only has the team been inconsistent, but many of the important players are injured. Since the last episode of Tiger Talk, Victor Martinez and Kyle Lobstein have each been added to the 15-day disabled list and Jose Iglesias hasn't played since leaving Saturday's game with a severe knee bruise. To conclude, the two hosts talk about the Minnesota Twins recent hot streak. The Tigers are getting consistent starting pitching at the moment, which has enabled them to win the Twins and Cardinals series last week. The bullpen has also been better than expected, at least in the month of May. Motor City Bengals presents "Tiger Talk" with host Dave Holcomb. Co-host Matt Pelc was unable to do the show this week but wishes all his fellow Tigers fans well. The Detroit Tigers had another up-and-down week, but they were able to split the four-game series with the Royals in Kansas City to avoid falling out of first place. In the first three games of the series, the offense was a major problem, scoring just four runs.Although it is still too early to panic, some small changes are healthy and sometimes even neccessary, so Holcomb suggests, just as guest Steve Mitzel did last week, that a change in the batting lineup is in order. It is also important that manager Brad Ausmus start getting some of his stars off days. Six of his nine regulars have played in at least 25 of the Tigers' 26 games this season. That could help explain why the Detroit offense is either feast or famine. Surely it can't be the only reason, but perhaps on some days, the starters are just tired from lack of rest.In the second segment, Holcomb names the candidates for the Detroit Tigers franchise four and picks his four winners. Fans can vote for the Tigers franchise four, along with any other franchise, on MLB.com until May 8.Finally, Holcomb explains in the 'Around the League' segment why this notion that baseball is too long and slow is asinine with a very passionate rant to end the show.

Motor City Bengals Presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, we recap the third week of the season and welcome on another guest, Motor City Bengals Staff Writer Steve Mitzel. The Tigers definitely cooled off in the third week, losing their first series of the year to the New York Yankees, and four games in a row. Detroit, however, rebounded nicely over the weekend, winning another series with the Cleveland Indians and the first game versus the Twins on Monday.Starting pitcher Alfredo Simon has to be considered one of the big reasons why Detroit has jumped out to this nice 14-6 start. He leads the American League in wins with a 1.65 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 27 1/3 inning pitched over his first four starts. But despite the nice start, Pelc and Holcomb weigh the chances Simon continues to keep this up all season long.Holcomb points out that throughout his career, Simon has always been a better first half pitcher, and Pelc gives his reasons for why that could also be good in the second half of 2015.The two hosts also discuss the season-ending injury to Joe Nathan and the struggles of fellow relief pitcher Al Alburquerque before welcoming guest Steve Mitzel. In addition to sharing some awesome stories about the Boston Marathon, Mitzel gives his thoughts on the start to the Tigers season, including Brad Ausmus as manager, Simon's hot start and Justin Verlander's recovery time.In the "Around the League" segment, Pelc and Holcomb again talk Kansas City Royals brawls again, making the point that the Royals are quicking going from loveable underdog to hatable villian very quickly. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. Tiger Talk: Detroit's Hot Start Continues

Motor City Bengals presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this week's show, we recap the second week of Tigers baseball, which saw Detroit continue to dominate, but in a different fashion than in the first week. The Tigers won their first six games of the year behind a high-powered offense, but in the second week, the starting pitching shined as Detroit shut out Pittsburgh twice and won a pair of 2-1 games as well.As expected David Price has been outstanding, but it is the emergence of Shane Greene and Alfredo Simon that has the Tigers starting staff on an incredible streak to start 2015.Unfortunately, not every starting pitcher is off to a fantastic start. For one, Justin Verlander is still feeling pain in his right triceps and has not resume throwing since he shortened his simulated game last Wednesday. On this episode, Pelc and Holcomb share their disdain in how the Tigers have handled the Verlander "cramp", which is all it started out as towards the end of Spring Training. The second starting pitcher off to a less than desirable start is Anibal Sanchez. He has taken both the Tigers losses this season and has a 7.71 ERA, but guest star Tom Zahari argues that it is way too early to give up on Sanchez just yet.In the final segment of this week's show, Pelc and Holcomb stay in the AL Central to discuss the latest with the Royals and Athletics weekend fued. What started as a somewhat immoral slide, turned into non-existant text message exchanges and an usual amount of ejections on Sunday. The hosts share their thoughts on the entire situation and debate whether a rivalry between Kansas City and Oakland could actually be a good thing for baseball. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. Motor City Bengals presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this week's show, we recap the first week of the regular season with the Tigers one of the hottest teams to start the year.Despite the loss in PIttsburgh on Monday, the offense has begun the year particularly hot, placing first in several offensive categories. First baseman Miguel Cabrera is leading the way, going 13-for-17 with two home runs in the last four games. Pelc and Holcomb share what parts of the offense have been the most impressive in this first week.In the second segment, the show dives into another discuss on closer Joe Nathan. The right-hander landed on the disabled list last week with a Grade 1 flexor strain in his right elbow. Could we have seen the last of Joe Nathan or will manage Brad Ausmus restore him as the team's closer once healthy? To conclude, Pelc and Holcomb discuss the red hot Kansas City Royals, who have moved to 7-0 on the season and named two other teams that have exceeded their expectations in the first week of the season. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. Tiger Talk: Opening Day Victors

Motor City Bengals presents "Tiger Talk" with hosts Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this week's show, we celebrate one of the greatest days of the year: Opening Day. The Detroit Tigers began the season with a bang, earning a complete, 4-0, team victory over the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park. Ace starting pitcher David Price was the star, pitching 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing only five hits. He also struck out five and walked none. Unfortunately, Price wasn't able to record that 27th and final out, but closer Joe Nathan was able to, striking out the lone batter he faced.Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes starred in the field and at the plate in his Tigers regular season debut. Cespedes was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and robbed a home run off the bat of Kurt Suzuki in the third inning, but Pelc argues it was a base running play from Cespedes that turned out to be most important on Opening Day.In the second segment, the show welcomes its first ever guest in Motor City Bengals staff writer Josh Scramlin. Holcomb asks Scramlin about his latest article on J.D. Martinez and the outfielder's performance on Opening Day. Martinez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the season's first game. Scramlin also shares his thoughts on Bruce Rondon's trip to the DL and the Tigers chances this October. To conclude, both Pelc and Holcomb pick their division winners and wild card selections for the 2015 season while also discussing the experts picks from other sites. Finally, the duo select their World Series teams and winner. Will it be the Tigers? Take a listen and find out.The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this episode. Fansided's "Tiger Talk" presented by Motor City Bengals debuts with its duo-host format with Matt Pelc and Dave Holcomb. On this episode, Pelc and Holcomb run through the good, the bad & the ugly from the Detroit Tigers spring training starting with Justin Verlander's triceps cramp. Verlander left Friday's game with the cramp and will not pitch in his next scheduled spring training start, but Pelc explains why he isn't too concerned... yet. That leads to the ugly, which would be the replacements in the case Verlander or any other important player goes down for the Tigers. It's one thing to be injury prone, but it's an entirely new problem if there is a big drop off between the starter and the backup, which might be the case for the 2015 Detroit Tigers. Finally, in the Around the League segment, Holcomb and Pelc debate whether of not Pete Rose should have another chance at reinstatement or being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The two argue both sides and play devil's advocate with each other while both agreeing new baseball commissoner Rob Manfred is being extremely political on the subject. The Motor City Bengals staff would love to hear feedback on this second episode. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander told the Detroit Free Press after his start on Sunday "I'm not quite there yet." That seems to be a common theme among the Tigers entire roster. Holcomb discusses all these topics in detail. In the final segment of the show, Holcomb delievers the top news from around Major League Baseball which includes the Washington Nationals choosing former Tigers starter Max Scherzer as its Opening Day starter.
